Amnesia, as written, is a career ending condition unless it is reversed.

A bit like petrified, but you can move.

It is deeply unfun for the player because said player does not get to play his character.

Something you could do is a thing where the amnesia retreats at a rate of 1 day per level (so the player starts to reremember), and, once the character remembers everything, gets a free feat.

Throughout the whole dungeon there are so many opportunities for will saves for insanity and our fighter only had a +4 will save. And he was down 2 levels Becuase he was raised previsouly from being disintegrated by the color. So we was going into this dungeon with barely any will save and he continuously rolled above a 13 for each and every will save that by the end of it I told him he got iron will feat for free haha

That said, amnesia is basically character death. You either have the right spells to deal with it instantly, or the player might as well start a new character.

No logical character after losing all memory of themselves would think they should go out and do dangerous adventuring. Worse yet, in a higher level party they're just going to be dead weight and a liability for the other party members.

Yeah I would agree with it as well. But my players are really attached to this character and everyone is invested in her well being getting better. We don’t currently have a cleric with heal but in two levels we will or we will have at least the money to acquire a scroll to fix her they are just going to hold out until then and besides they are in an underwater cave they really can’t go anywhere aside from forward.

I can understand the desire, but it (IMO) simply doesn't make sense.

Based on your statements the party is 9th level. I just don't see where a level 1 character (would they even actually be level 1 or just be a commoner?) would be able to stick close to the party. They could maybe tag along in the sense of journeying with the group, but needing to stay well away from danger. Any stray AOE effect is almost certainly death.

And while I agree they shouldn't just strand the character in this underwater cave, the character should also very quickly realize they have no business being with these people. I stand by my statement that no reasonable person of level 1 would willingly endanger themselves in a group of enemies appropriate to a level 9 encounter because they're almost guaranteed to die unless the gods (read GM) use Deus Ex Machina to make sure it doesn't happen.

IMO the best that can happen is they get out of the cave,...

Normally I would agree with you with this being a character death practically. Our party was determined to do go with it and hope for the best the amnesiac hid in a safe spot til we could clear the cave and defeat the outer god manifestation. I generated an npc to be rescued and the member played that until the section was over. We unfortunately do not have a cleric but have an oracle so we would have to wait til 12th but we do have a teleporting sorcerer that could get us back to Lepidstadt for the scroll.

When this came up in a Carrion Crown game I played in, it was our brawler who got affected by it. In the middle of a dungeon, fighting a Color from Outer Space or something. He did okay, because he got to keep his BaB and punching things and hit points was about all he was used for anyway.

It wasn't...great, but it was the best character to get afflicted by it considering we had a gunslinger, investigator, arcanist, and a cleric besides.

Yeah I can see that being an hindrance because it was our arcanist that saw the color form space and got amnesia

Its a poorly thought out condition to subject the PC to. Almost crippling, really. It says to turn off feats, but it also says HP remains the same. How its resolved is pretty much GM call territory.

I'd say that the HP should remain the same. Toughness is not really a learned skill. Even if the PC does not know, they are still Tough.

I’m inclined to agree with you on that one. Especially other things like great fortitude and the like.

Hello! I am currently running the adventure path Carrion Crown: Wake of the Watcher. Inside that adventure there are points in the story where horrific experiences can cause people to go insane or the optional rule for rolling on the madness chart. A had a player end up getting amnesia. This same player has the toughness feat.

The ruling for amnesia:

A character suffering from amnesia cannot remember things; his name, his skills, and his past are all equal mysteries. He can build new memories, but any memories that existed before he became an amnesiac are suppressed.

Worse, the amnesiac loses all class abilities, feats, and skill ranks for as long as his amnesia lasts. He retains his base attack bonus, base saving throw bonuses, combat maneuver bonus, combat maneuver defense, total experience points, and hit dice (and hit points), but everything else is gone until the amnesia is cured. If a character gains a class level while suffering from amnesia, he may use any abilities gained by that class level normally. If the class level he gained was of a class he already possess levels in, he gains the abilities of a 1st-level character of that class, even though he is technically of a higher level in that class. If his amnesia is later cured, he regains all the full abilities of this class, including those gained from any levels taken while he was suffering from amnesia.

So when you have feats like Toughness you get HP. The ruling says you lose feats but maintain your HP. So in this case do you still lose the feat but maintain the HP. Also how does non magical amnesia cause someone to lose physical attributes like toughness or great fortitude and all of a sudden have less stamina?

What should I do as far as ruling is concerned? I have an idea what I want to do but I wanted to know what would the actual answer would be?

So I am running a game and most of my party has been with a succubus and given a profane bonus. The succubus is friendly to the group and hasn’t drained them. My question is for spells like detect evil, forbiddance and the like will they register as evil? And would holy weapons do damage to them as if they are evil? They are mostly good as a party and even the Paladin has had the bonus granted. He only took it for the group telepathic ability Becuase he constantly kept finding himself blind.
Any RAW I would like but in the absence of that and interpretation is most welcome. We are dealing with a succubus that isn’t evil.

Cool thank you

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

What’s the reason?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

This has probably been done before but I can’t find it anywhere. But based on what I read for trick attack that the additional damage happens regardless whether or not the attack lands. It sounds like the as long as you make the dc for trick attack against your opponent that your additional damage happens whether or not the attack lands is this true.?

Trick attack (EX)
You can trick or startle a foe and then attack when she drops her guard. As a full action, you can move up to your speed. Whether or not you moved, you can then make an attack with a melee weapon with the operative special property or with any small arm. Just before making your attack, attempt a Bluff, Intimidate, or Stealth check (or a check associated with your specialization) with a DC equal to 20 + your target’s CR. If you succeed at the check, you deal 1d4 additional damage and the target is flat-footed. This damage increases to 1d8 at 3rd level, to 3d8 at 5th level, and by an additional 1d8 every 2 levels thereafter. You can’t use this ability with a weapon that has the unwieldy special property or that requires a full action to make a single attack.

Yes I agree I hope that the next alien archive has more creatures and or new race from that planet!!! And embroi seems super cool too. And do you think we will have mech suits?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Yeah I know when I read this it sounded like the race from the new Godzilla movie anime on Netflix that’s why I thought it was pretty cool haha!!!

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Anyone else find the idea of Daimalko super interesting? I’m getting Kaiju overran planet where they have to escape the planet a super cool idea! Not to mention the race that inhabits that planet. I hope they expand upon them too. Maybe a stat block or anything. What do you guys think? I tried to make my own version of the race but I don’t have a lot to go off of other than they are psychic and they worship an empyrean lord.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Hello! I have a player who wants to play a character with a variable CR template like Half-Celestial. We have been doing it where for every CR +1 adjustment is 1 level behind. I’m not sure exactly if that’s how we are suppose to do it. There is no real clarification I could find. I have also looked at the rules for playing a monster and adjusting their CR and the levels you gain. Does that apply to templates? Like if we have someone with a template of CR +2 like vampire do they lose two levels and do they gain back another level after three equal up to half of their monster “CR”? So if we are playing a level 14 game would a half celestial be level 11 or would it be something higher? Clarification this would be much appreciated thank you.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

All right thanks I wasn’t sure if there was a ruling on that or not.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So I know about the natural 20 and natural 1 thing with automatic successes and failures but what if your bonus to a particular save is higher than the total DC for example you have a +16 to your fort save but the Disease DC is 12 is that considered an automatic success? As if you didn’t need to roll anyway?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thanks THat answered my friends question

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Does Protection From Evil and similar spells help against Confusion? More so what I am asking is does PFE's second ability work on Confusion does it allow for a reroll and ignore duration? And yes the confusion caster is Evil for this scenario.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thanks guys I will use that information you guys give and use that

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I also have someone who has mending that can mend the pieces together

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

If you look further down on the trade goods chart it shows that 1 pound of marble is 5 gold and you can get plenty of marble off this huge table maybe different 1 lb pieces

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So I am running a mummy's mask campaign and we are on the first book and the group is in the second house for the adventure and they have come across the adamantine flail and when they come across the marble table with the skulls on it in the description it states it was a marble table and they bit off on that and they want to smash the table for all it's marble and sell it for a lot of money the table is a 20 by 5 foot table which would make a lot of marble to sell and that's way too much money for them at level 2. What do I do?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So I was recently playing a psychic and I fought a ghost. I had the will of the dead feature which allows mind affecting affects able to affect undead. But once that happens what kind of damage does mind thrust do? Is it force damage so it doesn't get halted or does it get halved? This question of for any incorporeal creature how much and what kind of damage would it do?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thanks and I did not know that ghost can't learn spells after they have been dead. Where you get that information? True that would lead to it being killed. So with the planar ally thing would it blink out of the spell resistance check passed? And your right the ghost wouldn't be able to do anything but could it still run away by going through walls?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So my friend brought up this idea that if you had a sorcerer ghost cast the spell Anti-Magic Field in his area, how would you be able to defeat him. First he ask if a ghost could even exist inside the bubble. I told him yes according to the spell as long as the ghost wasn't summoned it is still there because it falls under undead. But then he asked how would you defeat the ghost? Since the spells nullifies any and all spells, spell like ability's, and most if not all supernatural abilities, magic weapons become non magical so therefore can't hit a ghost. The only way o could see that you could use to defeat it is energy and technology weapons since they do energy damage and are not magical. Is there any other way I am not thinking of that would be possible to defeat the ghost?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Yeah we were just looking about if we could do it the old fashion way haha

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Yeah I didn't think anyone would answer on the General Discussion so I put it under advice.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Haha I found that book I forgot I had it and it had that feature. SO pretty much I will be making up my own race for it by mixing both.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So why using that book I can help my GM come to a conclusion? Are there any other suggestions before I talk to him about it?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

This is Quite interesting. My friend had a book of Erotic Fantasy from old 3.0 system and it shows a lot of things that humans can mate with but since Strix is a pathfinder only race it obviously wouldn't be found in that book. So that is why I was mostly curious. and I don't know what a strixs RP value is.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So this is just a geewiz question and was curious about something. Me and my wife are playing in the Hell's Rebels Adventure Path Ran by my friend. She is playing a Human HydroKineticist and I am a Strix WitchDoctor. The story is that I was taken as Egg/Baby (Which is to be determined because we don't know hwo they are born) by the mayor of Kintargo a long time ago I was wingclipped and raised as a surrogate family member of the mayor's so i took the alternate racial trait that does not have me hate humans (Cautious Brawler) as I grew up which was fast becasue of the Strix racial aging I became friends with a local shop worker who was continually bullied by people (My Wife's Human Kineticist) I stood up for her. So Our goal in this campaign is to find the mayor who goes missing because she is like a mother to me and My wife's goal is to follow me in what ever I do. So romance is gonna blossom during the campaign and we were wondering if our two characters could have kids. We always joked and said they would be like little black cupids lol. If anyone knows if that is a yes or no I would like to hear. I would also like to here any suggestions or ideas.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

That sounds like a great idea thanks!

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

All right thanks. It was a theme Idea I would probably go more Kineticist than ninja now though. I am not looking so much for optimization just as long as it can work haha

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

VMC? What is this This Scout Ninja Charge thing? Is it only for Kitsune? Why are they better at this?

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Be decent mostly haha

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

That archetype seems interesting. Based on that second level ability Pyrokinetic Ki, if I took 1 level in kineticist that from that point if i took only ninja levels my fire blast would scale as if I was a pyrokineticists? And this Idea I have isn't necasserily the best idea just a creative idea I wanted to do but i wanted to make it work and not be something that just mechanically not work.
I am not interested in the doing the most possible damage just want to work and be happy haha.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Well I was gonna start with Fast stealth to begin with Maybe get the feather fall trick, Definitely get the vanishing trick and get the shadow clone trick. Maybe the smoke bomb and blood debt tricks and probably the pressure point. as for master tricks I was going for Kawariwi, ghost step, unbound steps, or assassinate my main weapon will be a wakizashi if need be. I plan on using most of my feats for the kitsune magical tail. My GM allows the third party Unchained ninja for this as well.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So I am playing in a home game and I was wanting to get some advice for cross classing in as a Kitsune Ninja/Kineticist. It is a 5th level Character Ninja 2/3 Pyrokineticists. The idea is that I will level mostly as a ninja end goal somewhere like Ninja 13/PyroKinetcist 7 or Ninja 12/PyroKinetcist 8. We are doing a 25 point buy system. My stats are
Str: 13 -2 11
Dex: 15 +2 4th: +1 18
Con: 16 16
Int: 10 10
Wis: 10 10
Cha: 14 +2 16
I just had a few questions about this. First can I sneak attack with Kinetic Blast? Was combat as started can I flank with Kinetic blast if someone was on the other side if I was 10 feet away? Am I stretching my points way too thin? I plan on buying a belt of dex or con I am not sure which to buy. My main source of attack would be with kinetic blast but I still want to be able to do my ninja tricks. Just advice for building the stats or playing the character or if you think this idea is just bad let me know. Please and thank you

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thank you for the reply and the help. I could not find that in the book but other than talking about becoming stable and that stuff. It did not go into detail. Thank you once again.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

So I have been GMing off and on for two years but I'm still new to to doing so. I learned most of my knowledge from a guy who played 3.5 and that's how we played a lot of rules. But after doing a lot of independent research I have noticed that a lot of the rules we went by we're not actually a rule and I guess he just home brewed how they did things so one thing I am still confused on is when a player gets knocked unconscious due to hit point damage which brings them to negative hit points and they are not dead, then another player heals them to positive hit points, is that player still unconscious? What we did was they were still unconscious and another player had to wake them up with a DC 10 heal check or the player would wake up with a DC 10 Con check. What is the actual rules for this?
