Watching quietly as tempers rise and Estovian reveals his wound. Stepping forward, Tara offers an open palm, "May I see?" she asks before touching him on the arm gently, tracing the wound and checking for infection.
"You know, I originally am from Korvosa. I was in the city when Blood Veil went unchecked through everyone. Nobles, destitute, it didn't differentiate. It left its mark on those of us who caught it with festering open wounds, a cough that would rack your entire frame and chills, even though it was the height of summer." shivering slightly at the memory, Tara continues.
"If you were lucky, you passed quickly, most not making it through a week after showing symptoms. If you were unlucky, they took you. They experimented on you. They tested you. The doctors were not there to help us get better, they were there to perfect their disease." Taking a shaky breath, Tara makes eye contact with Estovian.
"But lucky for you, this is simply a curse. If you wait a day, and have faith, I will try and remove this affliction from you. We all make missteps in our lives trying to protect what we care about, and the bravest thing we can do is to stand up to those who bully and threaten us." Glancing behind her to the others, Tara offers a small smile, "Besides we all make more menacing targets. We won't let you fall."

I live! (It only took me 4 days after getting home to want to access my computer :P)
Thank you all for the kind words! This is my first child and I have been lucky enough that my husband gets two whole business weeks off for paternity. He has really stepped up and has been key to helping with my recovery.
Hey all. I'm getting ready to GM this for a PbP campaign and wanted to ask for advice from folks who have already run or played through it. There may be spoilers ahead.
1. Any sort of "trigger" issues I should flag for potential players? I read about Gaedren and Gobblegut and read in one thread this AP messed with some players heads. I don't want to start this and then have people dropping out because they're having issues with the content.
2. I'm leaning towards starting the PbP campaign with 6-7 players, expecting 2 to drop out. With that in mind, what kind of point buy would you suggest? I've usually done 20 but am debating 15. I won't go up to 25.
3. From reading threads here, I know an all evil party requires some rework of the books, but as long as the character has a connection to Korvosa and is able to work with party members, are there issues that would preclude an evil-aligned character?
4. Any other words of wisdom?
One of the things that I had my players do is pick a place in the city where they live. This helps with the "Why do I care" issue that can come up, with added bonuses of leaving interesting plot hooks if some players choose certain part of the city to be from over others.
I also had all of my players choose an ethnicity if they were human or half-human. Since Korvosa as a city is a melting pot of human cultures and there is definitely a disconnect between the wealthy (mostly chelaxian) and the poor (Varisian, Shoanti, ect) it adds a cool dynamic.
As for trigger warnings, I would at least warn them that the first book deals heavily with child abuse and endangerment.

Nel is already awake when Kaerishiel makes his rounds, reading. She holds up one finger as she finishes her page, marking it with a small scrap of paper. Raising an eyebrow at him, she clears her throat befor taunting, "I didn't know that you cared, Kira." Rising from her mound of blankets and bedroll, Nel lets out a soft moan as she stretches. With a satisfying pop, the young cavalier begins to gather up her things, shoving books and inkwells back into her small rucksack.
As her hands brush something at the bottom of the bag, Nel furrows her brow before pulling out a scarlet scarf with gold stitching. For a moment, a look of longing crosses over her face as she runs a thumb over the stitching. "Ow!" she snaps, jolting her finger away from the scarf just as a small prick of blood begins to well up from her thumb. Sticking the appendage into her mouth to suck on it, Nel flips her kapina over, to investigate. With a look of realization, she spot the hidden needle, still attached to the scarf by a strand of gold thread. "Mom..." Nel murmurs to herself as she follows the strand back to where it ended, Nel traces the name still half complete fourteen years later. ...iel
Snapping to attention as she hears Kaerishiel jostle Tamiro's and Aishe's tent, Nel quickly refolds her scarf before placing it with care into her bag. Pulling on her normal under-armor wear, Nel collects her armor and heads out to help Tamrio with his armor, and get help with placing her full plate on.
Nel nods to Aishe and Gillian at their observations. "I agree, I am not great at moving undetected, so anything that can help mask some of my movements would be appreciated. I hope that the drow are not too dug in, but I have confidence in our abilities." Hefting her rucksack onto her back, Nel looks at her small group. "Is everyone ready to move out?"

Nel sighs as she spots the approaching dust storm. "Worst case scenario, it is a dust storm. The best case scenario it is a couple of trappers returning to Riddleport." Placing a hand on the pommel of her sword, Nel nudges Gibraltar to the front of the group and looks around at the surrounding terrain. With a weary gaze, Nel assesses Orthrus and the unconscious drow hanging from his shoulder. Pinching the bridge of her nose, Nel ponder when she upset Desna, before speaking. "Not exactly. Boss Zincher and I work for two different groups that have similar vested interest. Currently we are subcontracted under him. You are more than welcome to join our group if you wish." she says with a resigned sigh.
Fishing out her journal and an inkwell, Nel spends a moment by the workstation jotting something down before approaching the Crime Lord. Handing over the missive, Nel allows Zincher a few moments to scan the document before speaking, "The Order of the Tome will probably make landfall here within the week. Both Kale and Nasher are highly capable members of our Order with ease of access to teleportation spells." Nel state with a thin smile to Zincher. Taking one last cursory view of the cave, Nel begins to usher everyone out to the thin ledge and back to Zincher's base of operations.
On the boat-ride to Riddleport, Nel cannot keep still. Between talking with the captain, checking on her horse, and re-reading the journal, anxiety fills her every move. When they finally land and unload there gains, Nel visibly jerks when Aishe mentions handling the selling of their items. After a moment of contemplating, Nel sighs and nods. "That sounds acceptable. Please bring Tamiro along for security purposes. I would hate for you to be mugged while coming back."
Leading both Gillian and Orthrus to the Gold Goblin, she ensures that the two are settled before heading out to send word to Kwava and The Order of the Tome.

Aishe, Gillian for the hostility when you were introduced, I apologize. I was just trying to keep in character with Nel, which had mostly been dealing with hostile enemies, and so when she was approached by three new characters, one of which had a note from someone she already didn't like, it came out a bit nastier than I intended. Sinmara was someone whom I knew in real life and had already discussed some of situation with before they posted.
I will try to be more forthcoming with what Nel is saying when she speaks her thousand dialects, as I had not realized that I was slacking in this manner, but looking back it becomes more apparent that I was leaving people out.
Another option for the language problem is to possibly introduce the background skill system from Pathfinder Unchained. What it essentially does, is it divides up all of the skills into adventuring skills and background skills and gives everyone their normal allotted skills per level plus two skill points that can only be used on background skills. PRD Source. (Though why slight of hand is in the background skill section, I will never know).

Backstory:
Violca is a very androgynous looking Varisian woman, who uses her flexibility to her advantage. Whether she is performing in front of a crowd of hundreds or talking someone up at a tavern, she ensures that all eyes are focused on her. Her day to day clothing can best be described as a dancer’s clothes, as she favors royal purple harem pants that cut off right at her calves. She also wears an intricate scarf around her waist, the color of crimson; embroidered with gold stars and flowers. Finally to complete her look, she wears a loose cream silk shirt that is cut just low enough to tantalize, but not low enough for her to be mistaken for a fancy girl. She keeps her hair styled in effortlessly large curls, using a stylish dark blue head scarf to keep it out of her eyes. Her hair reaches to her mid back when not curled and is so thick that she has lost several brushes to the curly devil. Violca flaunts her wealth by wearing several bracelets and bangles made of gold, as well as a large hoop earring and a small gold lip piercing. When she wears shoes, which is only when her family has been hired for a job, she favors comfortable well broken in thin soled shoes, crafted of leather, that cling to her feet as if it were a second skin. Ever vain, Viocla will go so far as to contour her chest to make it appear that she has more to ensure extra gold in tips for her performances.
Born the middle of seven children, Violca learned early on how to be the center of attention or how to meld into the background. Her friends and family would describe her as a free spirit. She is always in good spirits and enjoys making others laugh or uncomfortable, depending on how bored she is. Her favorite pass time is to see how far she can push her luck with servants of the gods before she is rebutted, generally laughing off these encounters with a smile. She has learned how to be self-reliant, and takes care to always look her best, even when times are tough. While comfortable enough with chance encounters, Violca has always vanished when relationship start to turn into something more than a warm bed. If ever questioned about it, she generally laughs it off with a “And deny all of Golarion this? I think not.” However secretly the dancer is terrified of commitment and the type of power a lover could hold over her.
Violca Jovanovi was born on the Yondabakari caravan route, to a family of performing Varisians. As the Jovanovi family traveled across Varisia performing to small crowds at festivals, young Violca watched and waited for her day to steal the spotlight. She is the first girl of the Jovanovi family, born after three older brothers (Giovanni, Ladin, and Anton) but before her three sisters (Nicoleta, Luminita, and Catina). While her brothers were taught how to become protectors and providers for their future wives, Violca’s parents were not sure what to do about their first daughter. Her father, Costel, wanted Violca to behave like most of the other women in the caravan: coy, demure, and learn how to run a family, Violeta, her mother, encouraged her daughter to follow her own path. Her father, intent on teaching his daughter a trade to fall back on, would teach Violca how to tell the true value of goods. Her mother, wanting a far safer profession for her oldest daughter would teach her how to dance traditional dances and cook.
On the first of Desna, 4709 AR, Saphir the Magnificent was born. Most of her family was shocked by how well the young woman demanded the crowd’s attention, and that day brought in more coin than the family had seen in several years. While she has left her family to temporarily settle in Sandpoint, Violca has greatly enjoyed these last two years of performing and would not trade them for the world.
Appearance:
Violca is 5'3 with a dancer's build. She has flowing black hair, bronzed skin, and emerald green eyes. She flaunts her wealth with several bracelets and bangles make of gold, as well as large hoop earrings and a small gold lip piercing. She prefers not to wear shoes, but if they are necessary, she pulls on a pair of broken in thin soled shoes crafted of leather that cling to her feet as if they were a second skin. Picture
Pesonality:
To call Violca cocksure would be like saying that the Runelords had a firm grasp on spellcasting. While true, it undermines both the Runelords true power and Violca's ego. Where some might find her attitude abrasive, Viocla is careful not to step over the line from cocky to cruel. In a more personal setting, Violca can be surprisingly soft spoken and a good source of advice. She adamantly does not wish to be saddled with the responsibilities of a leader, and much prefers herself as an adviser.
Twenty Questions:
What is your character’s name?
Violca Jovanovi aka Saphir the Magnificent
How old is your character?
Viocla is 19 years old. She has been performing as Saphir for about two years.
What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
The first thing that most people notice about Viocla is her thick, wavy, black hair which she keeps in effortless looking curls. She has bronzed skin, with stunning emerald green eyes. Viocla has androgynous looking features, which causes some people to mistake her for a young man at first glance. When performing as Saphir, she paints her lips a vivid red, and wears other make up to accent her exotic looking features. She moves with a grace that cannot be taught, helped by her small, nimble frame.
What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
Violca has a habit of twirling a strand of hair around her finger when talking to someone she finds interesting.
Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
Viocla was born on the Yondabakari caravan route to a family of performing Varisians. She is the fourth child of Violeta and Costel Jovanovi and is the first daughter.
Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
Violeta and Costel Jovanovi are both alive and well. When Violca last spoke with them, they were heading to visit some family in Ustalav. They are traveling performers who sing, dance, and put on small minstrel shows to earn an honest living.
Do you have any other family or friends?
Viocla is the fourth child out of seven and the first daughter. Her older brothers, Giovanni and Anton, are both built like traditional Varisian thugs, but have the kindest heart and perform acts of strength to interested crowds. Ladin, the second oldest child of the Jovanovi siblings, also has an androgynous build and was the one to teach Violca how to dance. Of Violca’s three sisters, Nicoleta is the only one old enough to perform at age twelve. Nicoleta is a master of many instruments and prefers to provide music for her siblings to perform to, rather than be front and center. Luminita just turned five and appears to be just as enthusiastic about performing as the rest of her family. Finally, Catina is the baby of the family at 3. Of her siblings, Viocla is closest to Ladin.
What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
Viocla is unmarried, though she treats Catina more as her own child rather than a sibiling.
What is your character’s alignment?
Viocla is Chaotic Good.
What is your character’s moral code?
Viocla strongly believes in you reap what you sow.
Does your character have goals?
Viocla’s goals currently are to become the most popular act in the entire World. She loves to travel and would love to see more exotic locations outside of Varisia if given the opportunity.
Is your character religious?
Viocla practices her faith as best she can. When traveling she often stops to help maintain shrines to her goddess and keep campsites clean.
What are your character’s personal beliefs?
Viocla knows that hard work and determination will only get you so far in life. The rest of the way to success is about who you know. As such, she goes out of her way to make new friends in every city she stops in.
Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
As a performer, Viocla has a bit of a dual personality. Saphir is as vain as the day is long, with a presence that commands attention no matter the crowd. When out of her Saphir persona, Viocla is soft spoken and enjoys flirting with those who do not know her stage personality. She is a hard worker who takes pride in a job well done.
Why does your character adventure?
Viocla adventures to see the world, meet new people and experience new things. She loves to travel and is open to trying unusual delicacies.
How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
She sees herself more as a performer and an entertainer than as a traditional adventurer. When she travels without her familial caravan, she is more than happy to provide support for those who love to wade into combat.
Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
Viocla has a beautiful tattoo fashioned in the shape of a butterfly on her back. It is made up of swooping circles and intricate whorls. She received her tattoo when she reached adulthood..
How does your character get along with others?
Viocla would like to think that she gets along well with others, as she is quite the crowd pleaser. She loves to make others laugh and feel at ease. If someone she is loyal to ever feels threatened, Viocla quickly switches into what her siblings call “mama-bear” mode and uses a mixture of threats, quick knife work, and good old fashion diplomacy to try and help them out.
Is there anything that your character hates?
Viocla hates being treated as fragile and an object to be won.
Is there anything that your character fears?
Viocla’s greatest fear is commitment. Despite the small number of lovers she has taken over the few years she has been traveling alone, Viocla does not want to fathom the type of power a partner could hold over her.
Questions From Your GM:
Who are you and how are you doing?
I am Anna, a 27 year old manager of a friendly local game store. I am doing pretty well, I just recieved a promotion at work and am living happily with my husband.
How often do you tend to post?
I try to post at least once a day, but I tend to fall short of that goal. I do check the paizo forums several times a day.
What kind of tone are you looking for in this game?
I am looking for an exciting fantasy adventure where situations can be exciting and full of joy as well as stressful filled with regret.
What do you expect out of your fellow players?
I would like my fellow adventurers to get along and post at least every other day, if not every day.
What do you expect out of me (the GM)?
I expect you to be able to adapt the ap in order to facilitate the changes needed for pbp format, while keeping the base story in line. I am fine with a gm who knows when to move people along when the pbp appears to be stalling.
What is your comfort zone? Where's the line for you in RP terms?
With Violca I am trying to play a character out of my comfort zone. She is going to be very sensual, but without being vulgar. As a player I have very bad past experiences with men who play Calistrian Clerics in pbp as they tend to go beyond my comfort zone with sexual overtones. I don't mind if Violca winds up dead, but I do mind if my character is used as a plot device without my permission (Mostly the terrible violated and stuck with a baby plot devices)
How do you see your character progressing as a character?
I see Violca ending up becoming more humble through her travels, and perhaps finding someone that she is willing to protect and trust with her heart. If Violca is to die, I would love it to be in the middle of an intense, difficult boss battle where she sacrifices herself in order to finish off the fiend and grant her allies the last push in order to become victorious.

Dodging to the half-hearted attacked by the aquatic grick, Nel wipes her brow. "Great, it looks like the second one wants a piece of us." Turning her blade towards the wet one, Nel swings her blade at the creature. However, either due to its tough hide or the water's refraction, she is unable to injure the creature.
Escape Route is still active for 2 rounds! If you wish to reposition, as long you move through an adjacent square of an ally or the allies own square, you do not provoke an aoo!
Furrowing her brow as someone calls her name, Roseline turns around and stares. Tilting her head sideways, she attempts to recall a name. Sure she had seen the man around town before, but they hadn't interacted. Her mother hadn't allowed it. Turning and waving at the catfolk, she offers him a smile before looking down at the halfling that has approached. "Ah, there is a booth that way." Pointing towards where she had gotten her frothy treasure, Roseline tries to keep her booming voice to an appropriate level.
When selected, Roseline was the first to fall in line behind Ruby. Whether due to years of working the ground in her mother's garden or with the others chosen at random in the crowd, Kurst and Rodrick fall and the young half-orc releases a shout of excitement. Waiting while the outsider talks to the young girl, Roseline's eyes track the other female half-orc as she tries to vanish into the crowd. "Hmm..." Offering a toothy smile to the militia and the two Grath boys, she gives them all a double thumbs up at their performance.
As the dwarf leaves, looking introspective, Roseline gives Ruby a bone crushing hug. "Congratulations, Ruby!" Roseline's voice carries easily over the crowd as she releases the young girl from her bone-crushing fate. Instead, Roseline begin gesturing with her whole body, causing her own hopeknife to bounce around her neck while she exclaims "You were amazing! I sense many great things to come!" Offering a toothy grin, Roseline clasps the twelve year old on the shoulder one last time, only to meld into the crowd as she searches for Sibrec to boast about her latest accomplishment.
I would like to start off by saying that my first gencon was amazing and everything was generally easy to understand and laid out very well. I ran the Thursday night special, Siege of Serpents 1-2 tier as well as Tapestry's Toil on Sunday, without too many problems. My Sunday group ended early, at around 11:00 am, but as it was a pre-made group of seven who wanted to leave early, I was pretty happy with it. My Thursday group for the special did very well in combat and the roll-play sections, that we wound up having to sit around and wait as the rest of the tables caught up. (We finished every encounter in act II and act III about ten minutes before time was called for each, and just finished act IV when time was reached then as well).
My only suggestion for gencon, would be to come up with an alternative to the "red", "yellow", "green" sections for map color. I had a colorblind person at my table, and with my husband being color blind as well, the red and the green looked identical to them. Although I understand the reasoning behind the color choices, it would be nice to think about the 10% of the population that is affected by red/green color blindness and choose friendlier colors (Blue, Yellow, and Red work really well).
Hello! I will also be traveling to gencon this year! I'm going to be leaving on Wednesday, July 29th and make the return trip on August 2nd. It should be fun!
As far as specialty items, my only request would be for weapons and armor that Roseline could use (Simple weapons, tridents, light armor, medium armor, and shields). I'm pretty self-sufficient otherwise.
I look forward to playing through this adventure with everyone! My only regret is that there are currently no avatars of smiling half-orcs for me to choose.
I am greatly honored for being chosen. This is my forth attempt at entering Giant Slayer campaign and I am truly humbled. Thank you so much for this opportunity, Whtknt.
And same here! I'm usually quite patient but I guess I'm a bit over anxious to see what happens.
Yeah they don't offer too many half-orc portraits, which is the same for aasimars. They really need to offer more portraits.
Thank you! I doubt that Rose will get picked, since the WHTKNT has already pre-selected Avast, and there are stronger Trunau entries than her. I liked Norah's backstory. I had never heard of Bolka before. Good luck to you.
Indeed! Hammas looks like a well thought out character. I wish that they offered more variety in the non-iconic female half-orc avatars, but it is what it is. I looking forward to seeing which characters are chosen for this adventure!

Special Abilities
--------------------
Channel Energy (Su): Positive energy heals the living and harms the undead; negative has the reverse effect.
Darkvision Half-orcs can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Enlarge (Su): As a swift action you can enlarge yourself for 1 round, as if you were the target of the enlarge person spell. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Intimidating Half-orcs receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate skill checks due to their fearsome nature.
Orc Blood: Half-orcs count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.
Orc Ferocity: Once per day, when a half-orc is brought below 0 hit points but not killed, she can fight on for one more round as if disabled. At the end of her next turn, unless brought to above 0 hit points, she immediately falls unconscious and begins dying.
Sacred Conduit: Your birth was particularly painful and difficult for your mother, who needed potent divine magic to ensure that you survived (your mother may or may not have). In any event, that magic infused you from an early age, and you now channel divine energy with greater ease than most. Whenever you channel energy, you gain a +1 trait bonus to the save DC of your channeled energy.
Storm Burst (Sp): As a standard action, you can create a storm burst targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The storm burst deals 1d6 points of nonlethal damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. In addition, the target is buffeted by winds and rain, causing it to take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for 1 round. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Trunau Native: You were born and raised in the town of Trunau, one of the few human settlements in the orc dominated Hold of Belkzen. Orc attacks are an ever-present threat, and like all Trunauans, you have made the Standing Vow: to hold Trunau against all attackers, orc or otherwise, to stand your ground, and to live free or die trying. Upon coming of age, you were given a hopeknife—a small, sheathed dagger, usually worn on a chain under your clothes—and taught how to use it to take your own life to avoid capture by orcs, or to grant the mercy of a quick death to the wounded. As a native, you have served in Trunau’s militia, and fought alongside Patrol Captains Kurst and Rodrik Grath. You begin play with a hopeknife (a masterwork dagger), and your tenacity in the face of adversity grants you a +1 trait bonus on Will saves.
Weapon Familiarity: Half-orcs are proficient with greataxes and falchions and treat any weapon with the word "orc" in its name as a martial weapon.
Backstory:
There are three things all Trunau natives fear: Orc raids, famine, and the anger of Roseline Groundsower. Born in the heart and chaos of a terrible storm, Roseline has always been considered by the townsfolk as a personal storm herself. As young as three, she felt more at home in the fields of Trunau, than the training drills she endured. Raised only by her mother, Rose's life should have been that of a simple townsfolk who married young and raised her children under the looming threat of orc raids. However that was not the case.
When Roseline was young, she lost her temper against a childhood bully who was teasing her about not having a father. She accidentally summoned a lightening storm, which struck the boy. He was fine, however the manifested power required the Council of Defenders to step in. After several long weeks, The council found her to not be a threat, but she would need to learn how to control her abilities. Everyday for five years Roseline was sent to mediate with Silvermane, the local druid who watched over the Hopespring.
While Silvermane did not say anything to Roseline, she did learn how to control her aggressive tendencies, instead turning that destructive prowess into a green thumb. Most anything that Roseline plants grows significantly larger than other plants from the same harvest. As such, Roseline makes a nice living off being a farmer.
Personality:
Roseline is a sweet half-orc with an effusive love of the world. She is excited to play matchmaker for her friends and dreams of the day that she'll find her true love. Life in general delights her, and Roseline is quick to heal any injuries that she sees, even if she doesn't know the person. The village council has had to bring her before them to ask her to stop bringing dangerous (but injured) animals to Trunau to nurse back to health, but she continues to do so to this day. One of her recent pets, and Owlbear she discovered and raised, lives outside Trunau and she visits him as time permits. Her sweetness has gotten her in trouble before, as newcomers take her heritage as a sign of danger.
Her sweetness carries a rage of its own, and she is equally quick to jump to defend the innocent or, more important, inflict punishment on those that take advantage of and injure others. Once she had determined that someone has crossed a line, be it through animal abuse or bullying, she does not stop before she considers justice having been served, despite the best efforts at times of her friends. During these times, she is unstoppable as the rivers that flow through the land, and in some cases has spent years attempting to exact her particular brand of justice.
Physical Description:
Standing at 6'2 at only seventeen years of age, it is hard to miss Roseline when she enters a room. Her skin resembles the color of fresh basil, the main hint of her heritage, though when she blushes her cheeks turn a pretty shade of pistachio green. She has a slight under-bite which was developed due to the small tusk that peak out from under her bottom lip. Although she tries to keep up with her hair to please her mother, Rose's thick black hair tends to be filled with elf-knots and small twigs. During town celebrations, Rose wears her hair braided. Like most Half-Orc's Roseline's eyes have black Sclera with gold iris, which helps her view things in the dark.
Friends and Allies:
Close Friend: The friendship between Sibrec Blackbane and Roseline Groundsower is littered with history. Originally starting off as childhood enemies, it was against Sibrec that Rose's prowess over nature first reared its head. Sibrec was attempting to goad Roseline into a fist fight, when he taunted the young girl about her lack of a father. Roseline, instead of socking the irritating boy, called down a lightening strike. However last year, the two made up during a battle last year. Since then, they have discovered how much they have in common and can be classified as inseparable. In town there is quite the scandalous rumor that their friendship is developing into a romance, something that Roseline is completely oblivious to.
Unknown Ally: When Roseline was young, she called up on a storm that hit young Sibrec Blackbane. Naturally, the council called upon the young half-orc in order to assess the threat of a storm wielder in their midst. Behind closed doors during quiet discussion on the matter, it seemed that Roseline would be thrown out of Trunau. That was until, Halgra of the Blacked Blades spoke up. Halgra's solution, was an elegant one. Roseline would be sent to study and learn to control her powers under Silvermane, the mute druid who watched the Hopespring. If it was found that the girl would be unable to control her abilities or use them to harm anyone else, she would then, and only then, be banished from Trunau. The council, unwilling to anger the Chief Defender, accepted the agreement.
Known Enemy: Though many raids are fought against the orcs from the north, when Vrogak Spinebreaker leads, the casualties are far higher than normal. Roseline met the deplorable barbarian on the battle field three years ago, when she caught the raider's eye. Vrogak, seeing the potential in the young cleric, planned to take her back to his tribe as his newest wife. Roseline did not agree. In the fierce struggle, Roseline was dragged by her hair towards the enemy line. Rather than live the life of a slave, Roseline drew her hopeknife. However instead of plunging the small dagger into her throat, she managed to cut her hair and take Vrogak's left eye. Roseline managed to escape, leaving behind not just her locks, but a powerful grudge in the barbarian.
Unknown Enemy: Few in Truanu view Roseline as a monster. Rhobat Blackbane, Sibrec's father, does. Steaming from a hatred of all orcs and their offspring, and seeing this new found friendship as a way to corrupt his son, Rhobat has sat quietly on the sidelines waiting for the cleric to slip, so he can justify throwing the girl out of Trunau. Odette, Roseline's mother, knows of Rhobat's plans and implores her child to be weary of her temper, however Roseline has brushed her mother off, seeing the warnings as nothing more but a paranoid parent worrying over nothing.

I just chose Romanian as the language to translate my character's words into. I figured that because the similarities of the Roma people and the Varisians that it would be a good choice. :)
I have played Pathfinder for about five to six years now. I have been playing in Pathfinder Society a little less than a year. (It will be a full year at the end of May). I am a female gamer, one of three, which attend my local friendly game shop. In my experience, I have yet to see a female gamer play an overtly sexualized character. (My gaming group in college was about 50/50 made up of approximately 35 individuals).
I have, however, encountered four men, roleplaying female worshippers of Calistria, both in Pathfinder Society and in home games, focusing solely on Lust aspect. To this day, whenever I wind up being seated at a table with one of the worshippers, I am extremely uncomfortable. All of them tend to push things too far and when I finally speak up, I get looks of “wth is her problem?” and grumbles of how they are “just role playing their character”. I do not have an issue with Calistria herself as a deity, but it would be nice if everyone in my community were to recognize that she is also the goddess of Trickery and Secrets. I do not have a problem with people playing a different gender, but I have noticed that when men play female characters they tend to be more sexually active than women playing male characters.
I have been hit on at conventions when I was waiting to gm for Pathfinder Society, even when I was wearing an engagement ring, to the point that I had to excuse myself to find my fiancé to get a guy to back off. I do not feel that my local lodge is welcoming to females and part of the reason why I have stuck with it, is because I am one of the lodge’s founding members. When Pathfinder Society started in my area, I would see quite a few couples show up for a game day, and then never appear again. When I ran into one of them again, I was told they tried it, but it was too “bros club” for them and that they were more interested in private games where the woman felt more comfortable.
When I brought this up to my Venture Captain, it felt like it was pushed under the rug. I am soft spoken and get spoken over a lot, to the point that when I run games for our local game day, I ask my fiancé to read the briefing, that way people won’t interrupt. When he isn’t available, I go quiet and wait for the rude parties to finish and realize that the story will not move on without me. It is very frustrating.
Our lodge recently ran the Year of the Shadow Lodge Special for our state. After waiting until two weeks before the event, I stepped up to help organize the gms because our Venture Captain, whose idea this was, didn’t. I created a flyer, which I gave to people to distribute around our region and the neighboring regions. I helped organize the sign ups we were getting into tables for our gms to know what to prep. I also helped prep every tier from level one to level nine, which I then emailed to the gms for our special along with an itinerary. I even created table tents with little handouts to give to people when they walked in to help them find their tables easier. I coordinated with my two Venture Lieutenants, while copying my Venture Captain on everything. I heard nothing from him during this time.
Then the day of the special rolled around. I did not sleep well the night before because I was so excited. When I got to the location where we were holding our gm meeting before the special, everyone was there except our Venture Captain. We started the meeting without him. After thirty minutes of going through the scenario over points that our tables may get stuck on, our VC finally arrived. The first words out of his mouth were that it was “my fault” that he went to the wrong location, despite that everyone else arrived at the primary location. He then proceeded to rip apart the scenario and completely change what we had all talked about and agreed upon as a group.
Right before the event was about to begin, he told the gm who was running the 10-11 tier that a player MUST play at this tier because he hadn’t read the meet up properly and it wasn’t his fault. Our 10-11 was already at six people for a season two, and I had personally promised this gm that he was not going to have to run a six person table, never-the-less a seven person table. When I brought this up to our VC, he told me that I had no right to question him and that the person who signed up as the sixth person was going to have to play down at the 8-9 table. I was livid. I told our Venture Captain that it was not fair to the person who signed up on time to be forced to play down, and that we should not be showing favoritism. He did not care.
I left the venue to go out to my fiancé’s car, that way no one could see me cry. After talking it over with my fiancé, I decided that I would still run, though I was shaking in anger the entire time, because it was too late to try and find another gm. I feel as if this whole incident could have been avoided had I been a guy.
My Venture Captain tends to ignore what I and the other two women have to say in my community when topics are brought up and I have to have my fiancé abdicate for me. After the incident with the Special, I avoided Pathfinder Society for a month. I still do not feel comfortable with my local lodge, but I do not have my own car to go anywhere else, so I tag along and gm tables for tiers that I know my Venture Captain will not be playing in.
Edit: Everyone, thank you for advising me to contact Mike Brock. However, someone else at my lodge has already brought this to his attention. I felt that this was a valuable contribution to this thread and that there is not much to "fix" the bad taste that has been left in my mouth due to how my VC handled the situation.
You know you are in trouble when your gm has to walk up to the overseers table in the middle of Siege of Diamond city because the universalist wizard decided to create a pit then use stone shape to trap the monster down in it.
...when the cleric gives up a dismissal to cast a cure critical wounds on the barbarian and the barbarian has to make a will save (because he is a witch hunter) and he passes.
