Pozuket calls up to the boat, attempting to sound like the spellcaster they fought earlier. "It's us. Some fools came looking for Lubor, but we took care of them."

Once we're within 30', I can sneak a charm person or memory lapse onto the lookout by yelling at him. So if we're close enough before he calls an alarm, I'll do that.

"Take that!" the gnome cries as he reloads his crossbow and moves to the other side of the boat. He takes aim at the other creature and looses another bolt.

Frustrated at his lack of effectiveness, Pozuket reloads the crossbow as he calls out some inspiring words, hoping to encourage himself along with the others.

Pozuket grimaces as his silent shout has no apparent effect. Seeing none of his fellows reaching for their weapons (and thus little use to his encouraging their blows), he takes aim over the side of the boat at the nearer of the creatures and fires his crossbow at it, before ducking back to reload.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 I don't know if this counts as high ground or not, and if it provokes an attack, I'll take it.

Pozuket lets out a surprised "Yipe!" as the boat starts rocking, and channels another scream at the creature on the side as he rises to his feat.

Fort DC 15 vs 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage and dazing. I just realized that the spell is "per 2 caster levels", not "for every two beyond 1st". Oops. Hopefully the daze will work.

"To arms! But don't rock the boat or we'll do their job for them!" Somehow, this is just a bit less inspiring than the gnome's usual battle cries.

Pozuket hops into the boat, but declines to take an oar. Given his small size and frailest build, he's more likely to go over the side with the oar than actually move the boat with it. Instead, he moves up to the front ("Bow?" he wonders to himself) of the boat to keep an eye on where they're going.

Poz shakes his head after the girl rejects his offer and dies for it. "Well, lets see if we can figure out who these thugs were."

Pozuket moves forward, to just inside the doorway, and points his crossbow at the girl who cast a spell at his friend, frowning. "That may not have been the wisest action you could have taken." Taking careful aim with the crossbow, he continues "Surrender, and start talking, or we'll treat you as we did your comrades."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

Maintaining bardsong (2/18). Readied action to cast Ear-piercing scream (not shoot, as his actions would suggest) if she does any hostile action, including casting any spell.

Spell results:
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 damage and Daze (no actions, which interrupts whatever she was about to do), Fort DC 15 for half and no daze.

I think I made my day job check on the discussion thread already. I also realized I hadn't been updating the map, so unless she threw the book past us, I'm probably close enough to get within 15' and do this:

Grabbing the book and wrapping himself around it to protect it from the grease, Pozuket sidles forward towards the pirate. "Traitors never prosper," he says, "Although you never learn either." He follows that with his own spell, sending a shower of crystal splinters as the pirate.

No sooner do the last words leave the gnome's mouth then he gets some of the answers he was asking about - at the point of a crossbow bolt.

Leaping at the book, headless of the goons, Pozuket calls out "For knowledge!" as he reaches his hands to rescue the precious tome from the mud.

Bardsong is back on. Believe it or not, I'm only halfway used up for the day!

Pozuket nods to Tikrit's suggestion. "I think that sounds like the best idea. We can make sure we're in a position where we can handle the crew if they are in on it, or at least keep them off long enough to explain to them." He sighs, and adds "Given that she was the 'lone survivor', I'm not surprised she set it up in the first place. The question is... why?"

"Forth against the spider... thing!" Pozuket is not having a good day when it comes to being inspirational. Spiders and the like seem to do that to him...

With a little shudder, he hurries forward after his companions, slotting another bolt into his crossbow.

Reloading would be the move action from the round I missed.

As Tikrit the tengu terminates Turac's trudging towards the turgid thing, Pozuket ponders possible purposes. "What's wrong?" he worriedly wonders.

Sorry, I started typing and couldn't stop... I'll go hide in the corner in shame now.

Nope, I don't have that one yet. But I do have Comprehend Languages 1/day as a SLA.

Pozuket quickly pounces on the written materials as they're found. He skims through the logbook and related papers, and comments "This book says the crew was supposed to wait for orders before searching... I wonder how they were supposed to get them? The Black Marquis said that Riverbane had sent this ship to look, and they never returned. If they had stayed here waiting for orders that never came..." He trails off meaningfully, then turns back to the rest of the papers.

When he comes across the orcish pages, he first identifies the runes as dwarven, but as he starts reading it, he makes a face. "Ugh, this makes no sense. Either it's code of some code, or it's written in something that isn't dwarven."

After checking that none of his companions is able to read it either, Pozuket settles down on a comfyish and web-free crate and pats the pages. "Alright, tell me what you say..." he can be heard to mutter to the paper as he begins to read.

With a mutter about spiders, Pozuket reloads, steps to the side to get a clear shot, and fires again. This time, the bolt sails neatly between the pillars and thunks into the spider's body.

The gnome silently fires again, apparently so disgusted at his song that he just stopped singing altogether.

Unfortunately, the bolt embeds itself into the wooden pillar next to the spider, and Pozuket mutters a goblinish curse under his breath as he moves to get a better angle.

Dropping the bardsong, and 5' step over - not sure if that lets me see around the crates behind us or not (probably not yet).

Pozuket slaps another bolt into the crossbow and takes aim through the webbing at one of the spiders to either side of Fitz.

Unfortunately, he winces at his own lyrics and the crossbow goes off a bit prematurely. Under his breath he mutters, "Ugh, that was awful."

Do the webbed areas count as difficult terrain and/or anything else bad for walking into them? If not, I'll 5' step closer to the fight.

As he sings, Pozuket rounds the corner of the crates and launches a crossbow bolt at the "spider down the hall".

Conjuring up four teal-colored balls of floating light, Pozuket offers: "I can sent some illumination down ahead of us. If there's anything down there, it may react before we cut the web."

Dancing lights has a 120' range at this level. If someone agrees and no one objects, Poz will send the lights down as far as he can see, and around corners to the extent of his ability to see the light shining back around it. In other words, poking them into things to see if anything reacts. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Assuming Fitz doesn't finish off the blue pirate:

Pozuket sidesteps after the halfling, and jabs at the pirate with his small rapier again, inspiring words still on his lips.

Assuming the blue pirate is dead:

Ignoring Fitz's advice, Pozuket moves up to the rail (Where the blue pirate is), holding his whip ready to try and trip any of the pirates who attempt a crossing now into the water between the ships. "Nice work, my friends. Now lets finish them off!"

Readying to make a trip attack with the whip if any of the pirates come within it's 15' reach.
CMB (trip): 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 + 1 = 4 Not doing anything useful, though.

Either way, maintaining the bardic bonuses one more round.

The gnome draws his rapier with his other hand as he steps forward again to poke at the boarder. 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 = 10

"No puling pirates push Pathfinders around!" he calls, maintaining his companions fighting spirit.

Pozuket takes a step behind the protective halfling as he draws out a whip. "Shove these scalawags back overboard, maties!" he calls out, perhaps overdoing the "nautical" terminology a bit, but still encouraging his allies.

Activating bardsong - +1 morale bonus to attack and damage rolls, +1 to charm/fear saves. It's recommended that you actually write out the +1 to show you accounted for it: Example: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10

Pozuket eyes the rare book with awe clearly written on his face, then follows his companions down to the docks.

On the way, the teal-haired gnome introduces himself: "I'm Pozuket, but you can call me Poz. My expertise is in words of all sorts. From ancient runes to inspiring speeches." He executes a little bow. To the tengu, he adds "We should compare notes. If you know a language I don't, I would love to learn it from you."

Pozuket ponders what they've been told, then nods. "That would be us. May I see the book?" The small gnome has a hard time hiding his eagerness.

While we wait for other check-ins, I'll do a bit of research in Pozuket's brain...

    Pozuket's interest in this book has sent him this far, and the promise of an ancient vault hooks him even further. His eyes practically shine at the idea, undeterred by the promised spiders and abominations.

    "How did you acquire this tome? Could someone know about it and be attempting to interfere, or is it just the monsters in the way?"

    Well, Shifty's group did end up reviving for this, so Poz is out. I'd be happy to create a new character for this instead.

    I've been wanting to try out some of the ACG playtest classes. Maybe a bloodrager?

    I'm up for anything. I might try one of the playtest characters, if I do create a new one instead of bringing Poz back. Or I might create the character anyway and run the other game with him.

    For what it's worth, Poz would love PotPP, just based on the nominal reward.

    One caveat, though: I have a regular PFS PbP group which is currently on hiatus. If it revives in time for the game day, I'll either be dropping out in favor of it, or creating a new character to continue in this one instead of using Poz. If it doesn't happen in time to switch... their loss.
