Also random questions about your characters: Describe your character's physical appearance. You have no clothes. (Do they have any tattoos, scars, facial hair, haircut, expression, unique physical characteristics) What is your character ideologically opposed to? Who were the most important people in your lives? What do you look for in friends/companions? How would you want your character to die (ideally)?* *Probably/definitely not going to happen, but i think it's an interesting question.
I'm going to answer Ezekial's questions in this thread so we can keep the gameplay thread all story. how often do you want us to post?
would it be ok if my character was abducted in the past? that he isn't a person from the modern day? like from the 1970 or 1940s? or 1930s?
Chapter I: Far From Home You slowly slide into consciousness and darkness recedes to reveal a red fluid surrounding you. The fluid is warm and viscous. You reach out with your hands and feel the walls of your Pod. You've been curled in fetal position and the pod is egg shaped. The walls of the bottom half are solid, but the top half is smooth and stretchy like rubber or flesh or some kind of membrane. You push your hand through the membrane and light breaks through the fissure. You pull yourself through the hole and crawl out of the Sac-Pod. You fall onto your hands and knees and vomit onto the smooth but irregularly cracked floor. You are naked and you realize that there are inch thick tubes connected to your stomach at the belly button and to the back of your neck. The tubes lock into circular metal ports embedded deep into your skin. The pinkish red fluid flows from the Sac-Pod onto the floor and into a circular metal grate in the center of the room. The grate is underneath an oddly shaped dull metal table. Above the table unrecognizable tools and sharp implements hang from a slightly rusted machine made of the same cold grey metal as the table itself. A pale yellowish light illuminates the room from a piece of the machine. You look around the room and see two other Sac-Pods embedded in round structures next to yours. The walls of the room are bone-white with a slightly concave shape. Shallow cracks and clefts in the walls from patterns of irregular shapes. You do not know where you are. You remember a bright light erupting from something above you and a deafening silence and then darkness. Who were you before you were taken? And what do you do now?
The strange and vile creature is unfazed by Bale's dark aura, and quickly lowers itself to all fours, it's bones snapping and dislocating themselves as it prepares to strike. Rook stands behind Bale, and asks, What is that thing? His voice is shaky and frightened. This is wrong! How could a demon be here...? Asks The Light to herself.
Lin pulls open the door to the round chapel room. A small rug on the circular podium in the center bounces sporadically off of the floor with sound of wood striking wood. After two more strikes, the rug is thrown off of the podium as the trapdoor beneath it flies open. A grey, three fingered hand rises from the opening and a lean, strange creature pulls itself out of the darkness and onto the podium.
Go for it. I've thought about stuff that could happen after this arc, but I'm sort of losing steam with this game. I'm not making a decision yet but I may or may not call it quits in terms of GMing this TT game. Definitely gonna finish the current story but after that I don't know what I'm going to do.
Close? He was a brother to me. We were all each other had. She sighs and struggles to recall a repressed memory. We'd been traveling for a few years by the time the law finally caught up with him. We were in the north, on a plains road. They surrounded us and he told me to run. I was scared so I did. I couldn't find him after that, so I tracked our attackers to a nearby outpost. By the time I found him, he was already... scarred. They took his eyes. I lost control when I saw him. I burned the fortress to the ground and the same for every soldier. I must have been nine or ten at the time. She doesn't sound particularly proud of her actions, only distant and pained.
The four of you walk through the dining hall and into the courtyard. The sun is reaching it's zenith, and bright light floods the outdoor space. A plum tree stands next to the door, providing some shade. There are wide, flat round stones set into the dirt as a walkway, and grass sprouts between them. Colorful flowers can be found all over the garden, as well as many different kinds of vegetables. A grape vine climbs the southern wall, clinging to the stones. This is where The Fury would spend most of his time. He planted the entire garden, tended it constantly, and meditated the rest of the time. I doubt you'll find anything here. Says The Light, as she supports herself on the plum tree.
The Fury is dead and you're still alive. I don't know what happened to your friend, but I never meant to kill that orc. I hadn't eaten in days and he found me unconscious on the road. I panicked when he woke me and he attacked. We never wanted to kill anyone. things just got out of control. The Light considers your question. I don't know. I think Danica is going to complete the ritual somewhere around here, though.
So right now it looks like you guys get to pick where to explore. Here's the current map!
Flame and fire all over...? She repeats, half to herself. She leans forward from the wall and clutches the blankets on the bed with clenched fists. Do you find me vicious?! Dangerous?! Yes, we stole trinkets and mementos from the village, and I fought back when I felt threatened, but you are the killers! I didn't kill anyone! He is dead because of you! She tries to shout but her voice is hoarse, and as she opens her mouth a small wisp of black smoke slithers out. She lowers her head suddenly and begins to cough violently and uncontrollably, clutching her sides and beginning to weep. When the coughing fit finally subsides she raises her head and falls back against the wall again. She seems to have coughed up both blood and ash onto the blankets. Tears fall from her bloodshot eyes, as she regains her composure. Priestess Danica took us in and treated us well. She promised that the ritual would bring a new light into the world, regenerating Nethos, wiping all suffering, pain and hunger from the world. She spent years finding all of the tome and scrolls she needed. Years preparing. Eventually she told us that all she needed to finish the ritual, was a relic of past glory, proof of a lost love, and as many memories as we could get her. She told us that we needed it all by the equinox, by today. She said we could find it all in the village, but there wasn't much time. So we had to steal. The Light says, though it seems as though she may not quite believe the promise.
Okay. She sighs, painfully. Her voice is raspy and coarse. She struggles to sit up, but eventually manages to prop herself up against the wall. My name is The Light. We went to your village to steal only what our leader, our Priestess, needed for a ritual. We were never going to hurt anyone. What else do you want to know? Even in her weak and wounded state, her voice is filled with restrained anger and disdain. She refuses to meet either of your eyes.
After many attempts the two of you finally manage to bust the door open. Beyond the door and inside the tower is a roughly square room. At the far wall is a set of stairs, next to the doorway there is a bookcase and a wardrobe leaning against the wall. To the left is an empty bed next to a window on the wall. There is a wardrobe at the foot of the bed. To your right there is another bed pushed up against the wall. There is a bookcase next to the bed. Lying in the bed, curled into a ball, is the Sorceress from the village! She is wearing a simple shirt and pants and facing the wall. Her arms are covered in black smears of ash and dark bruises. She stirs slightly as you open the door, practically wincing at the sound.
The boss, the Giant Lady, she said we were hired for protection! Some kind of favor for an old Ash Iron Vet. Our job was to make sure nobody interfered during the Priestess' ritual! I think it's some religious thing, can only happen at a specific time! After they dragged that burnt up lady in here they locked her in the western tower! The priestess said it was to keep her safe. Please don't kill me! I guess we should give Bale a chance to post
The western door is locked by a padlock and a wooden bar. The eastern door is unlocked and slightly ajar. You hear voices from the room beyond the eastern door. Looking through the crack you see a pair of the smoldering mercenaries that Abd scorched earlier, clinging to their weapons, and banging on a shut door. They're standing in a dining hall with a single long table in the center and chairs neatly pushed in on all the sides. Let us in, G&@ d!*n it! One of the two shouts, as he bangs on the wooden door with a mace.
Abd goes to the eastern facing door ahead of Bale. As the snakeoil salesman recklessly throws open the iron and wooden door, a scarred and burned mercenary lashes out and stabs Abd directly the chest with his spear. Abd staggers back before collapsing on the tile floor of the temple hallway. Golden, green and red light pour into the room through the long stained glass windows along the outer wall of the corridor. Bale, Lin, how do you react? Bale, you can use your turn here.
I would be willing to run the game for just you two, or try to find more players. Abd: Sorry you didn't have fun. We shouldn't hold it against Abd for bailing. If he's not into it then that's all there is to it. Anyway, I'm going to narrate as if Abd had gone with Bale to the eastern door. We should finish this dungeon with just the two of you because that makes the most sense for the narrative.
Bale and Lin look through the room, but fail to figure out where the Priestess went. A book lies on the podium at the center of the long room. The cover is engraved with gold filigree and images of the rising sun. The book is filled with hymns and scriptures describing the ascension of a new sun god who will wipe all suffering from the world. The northern door has a circular, sun shaped window at eye level which reveals a courtyard garden beyond. The eastern facing door is wide open and the western door is slightly ajar.
She smiles from her round podium as the sunlight shines through the glass ceiling and kindly says, Though I wish that I could assist you, I can not allow you to take my sister. I will not betray my fellow worshiper, especially not while she lies wounded, and especially not on such a holy day as today. Under normal circumstances I would allow you four to leave, but not today.By chance the four of you find yourselves at the location of the most significant event in all of history. Today you will witness the dawning of a new era! Truly you are blessed! There is the small sound of a creak behind you as the doors of the foyer close. The sunlight that pours through the ceiling seems to brighten and intensify with every word she speaks. Very soon all will be clear. As she says this, the light grows to a blinding brightness and then suddenly dissipates. When you are able to look back at the podium, the Priestess is gone.
_OldGod_1 wrote: BB. my reason for disliking the 5 tier system is right there in the post beneath it Okay. In a previous post I said, I think the confusion arose because I was ignoring the "What Happens" part of the Base 5 table and just applying the Roll part to the previous single roll and multi roll tables. I failed to communicate this. My intention is to use the Base 5 Table and when players roll poorly, instead of the GM acting, their enemies deal damage to them like in the normal/old/Base 4 table. The only part of the Base 5 Table I like is the Roll/Result part. It makes the game just a little bit harder and it's supposed to be easier to remember but TBH I think I've used the Base 4 enough that it's easier to remember what rolls equal what results with the Base 4 table. It's totally my fault for not specifying that, there was no way for you all to know that that's what I meant. So, I would be more than willing to switch back to the old/normal table if that's what you guys want to do.
Lin walks through the foyer which is illuminated by the light that shines through the stained glass windows on either side of him. The foyer leads to a larger room. In the center of the round chapel beyond the foyer, is a circular podium, surrounded by rows benches that all point to the center of the room. The ceiling a massive domed stained glass window covered in scripture and iconography. A woman in bright robes stands at the podium in the center of the room. She reaches out her arms, a peaceful gesture, and says, Welcome travelers. Please, cease this violence. I wish you no harm. What do you want from our temple? Her voice is calm and soothing.
Lin: Mixed roll should probably give limited knowledge or unhelpful knowledge. Bale. The Foreverknight. wrote: Bale brings his blade out in arch, but the giant sweeps out her arm flinging Bale back into the wall. Bale: There is no wall. If you look at the map, she is in the doorway and the rest of you are outside. I guess you land in the dirt. Rook runs to Bale's side. Are you alright, teacher? The Giantess' hammer falls to the ground and slides as she clutches her wounded wrist. She struggles to stand and drops to her knees, breathing hard. Her face is covered in dark blood and her wrist bleeds badly. She speaks softly to herself as her eyes lose focus. Sister always said I'd die like this. She falls heavily on her left side and lies still.
gamesrgreat wrote: Would you interpret G&G as giving an extra turn or moving my turn up? Lin: You should probably move your turn up. That's closer to what it says in the trait description. Also I didn't understand your question, "What do you need gold for?" Everyone needs money for living expenses at least. _OldGod_1 wrote: Why are we using the playTest rules? I really hate them. like loathe them. Once again, we aren't using the majority of the playtest rules we're only using the new base 5 result table. If you have a problem with that then please tell me. Just saying "I hate it" is not an explanation. Part of using the Playtest rules means finding out what we don't like and letting the guy whose making the game know about what we do and don't like. I agree with Abd. I think the confusion arose because when I was ignoring the "What Happens" part of the Base 5 table and just applying the Roll part to the previous single roll and multi roll tables. Idk how I feel about ignoring initiative, but if you guys all feel like that's what you want to do then we should do it. I suggest that if we ignore turn order we make sure everyone gets a chance to post. That's the plus of initiative. Everyone has to go before the next round can start.
Abd: I outlined the Cathedral so you'd have a better idea of the layout/architecture. There are stained glass windows on a lot of the walls of the main building and a few windows on the two towers. The windows on the towers are shut and you can't tell if they're locked from here. The main building is two stories tall and the connected towers are both three. Lin: You're totally right, my bad. With Glory and Gore she only got a 16 and 20s aren't crits with the new Base 5 table. So she really did 12 damage which is 10 after block, just like you said. I have a question: Are you guys here to find Abd's stuff, or to get the villagers' stuff back, or to kill the sorceress, or to find out what these people are doing?
Lin's shadow dagger plunges into the Giantess' left side and she grits her teeth, but tries to keep moving, pushing past Bale, and hurriedly making her way into the doorway of the Cathedral's foyer. Bale lands a blow on her calf and her right leg buckles as she falls to a knee, heavily wounded. She kneels for half a moment in the frame of the doorway, before pushing her hammer straight through the air at Bale's
I will never yield! Attack with Advantage from Abd: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 = Good Damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9 Bale fails to raise his shield in time and the powerful hammer strike lands square on his gut. The blow pushes him backwards.
Bale got bad but still did damage from his counter attack. Abd lit everything everywhere on fire. Lin got Mixed -> Good. He almost took off the Giantess' horn and cut up her face. Which, given her height, really is an equally impressive demonstration of acrobatics and battle prowess now that I think about it. Really long sword probably helped. With black blood drippings from her scarred forehead onto the left side of her face, the Giantess bellows, Bastards! Reaving wretches! Damage to Bale Because He Rolled Bad: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 1) + 3 = 12 The Giantess spins around swinging her hammer over the heads of her comrades and striking down on Bale. He raises his shield to block the descending blow and the impact resonates with another gong-like crash. The force of the large iron hammer pushes Bale down and painfully to his knees. His shield arm is getting sore as hell. As The Giantess retaliates against Bale, her men are demoralized. The mercenaries beat at their arms and legs to put out the fires on their clothes, and scream from the pain of their burns. Seeing the terrible wrath of their surprise attackers the mercenaries begin to retreat back through the doors of the cathedral. Rook climbs over the rock that he hid behind, lets loose a small battle cry, and runs at the mercenary who speared Bale while he was down. He ineffectively yet savagely hacks at the spearman's legs as he flees. As her men retreat, the Mercenary Leader turns her bloodied face to Lin. Giantess' Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 She drags her hammer across Bale's shield and swings it through the air horizontally at Lin, striking back with rage. The hammer whirls and collides with Lin's right side. He is thrown into the air by the force of the blow and lands in the dust on his left arm. Giantess' Damage: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3, 7) + 3 = 19 I'm sorry. With Bale and Lin both temporarily stunned, the Giantess hastily follows her comrades back into the foyer of the Cathedral.
