Great Sandbox and Roleplay Adventure

5/5

GM perspective, run at 3-4 subtier.

Definitely needs a couple read throughs for best effect, but very worth it. If you have time to spend and some imaginative players, the traveling skill checks can be very entertaining. The social encounters throughout are great, though the combats leave a little to be desired. Fights ranged from pathetic and noneffective to potentially deadly amounts of damage, but not terribly interesting or memorable. The tactics of the 'boss' in the end are an exception, but the mooks were again a let down. Still, the party had a great time and so did I as the GM.

5/5

This scenario has a fantastic amount of depth to it. While the combats are a little easy (until the end) they provide a sense that the danger and difficulty lie elsewhere. I love the way the scenario places importance on skill checks so that less-combative players get the spotlight. The ending is absolutely spectacular, really pushing the PC's to think of combat in different ways than normal.

Run it twice so far, look forward to running it again

5/5

Murder on the Throaty Mermaid has a lot going for it. It gives the party a very real, very direct reason to care about their mission/s. It has a sense of urgency about it without being so time-crunch-y that players are rushed into missing out on the fun.

It is very RP heavy. Having run it twice, each of the four hour runs included probably 2-3 hours of investigating, searching, and discussing options. There are enough combats to keep people that don't like RP scenarios happy (2 absolutely mandatory, and 3 or 4 optionals).

The best part for me is that the big reveal can be different each time depending on who shows to the table. This means you need to read and prep a little more, but it's way more fun to GM multiple times. There's also a wide variety of quirky characters for you to work with that should lead to a lot of fun times.
