Gleus's Answers:

1) What's the strangest custom you've seen in your travels?
I do not know if you've ever been through Kaer Maga. It is a massive city full of people from all walks of life. It was there I saw the trolls of that city slit their own bellies, pull out their entrails, and read their steaming innards as divining devices. If you can look at that and not find it bizarre you've led a much stranger life than me!

2) What cultural tradition/ritual from your people do you uphold whenever possible?
In my homeland, the Linnorm people observe "weregild". It is an honor system that states that all life and property has its price and the neeedless destruction of either is despicable. Any hostages or treasure taken in the field of battle must be returned to the loser if they can pay the right price. These terms may only be waived in times of war. Otherwise not even a Linnorm king can deny weregild. This is something all warriors of my homeland hold in their hearts.

3) How far are you willing to go to sate your appetites?
My uncle taught me to throw fear an inhibition to the winds. A true kings desires must be monstrous! I must give into lust and greed and live the life of 100 men. For that is the kind of man men would follow into battle!

4) What would you consider to be your greatest strength? Greatest weakness? Deepest fear? Proudest accomplishment?
A warrior is only as great as the men who fight with him. One day I'll have swords pledged to me, but for now I must grow strong and prove myself. That being said, my greatest strength is my size! More than once has it compensated for an opponents speed or skill.

My only weakness is inexperience. I may not be educated but I have seen the potential of strategy. If I could find someone that could read I'd have them teach me!

My deepest fear is that I will die before I can return home. I must risk much to be a king, but...I have my doubts. I'll leave it at that.

My proudest accomplishment was earning my first axe from my uncle! He said it was his in his fighting day. On my 14th birthday he gave it to me for beating him in a test of strength! I will never let this out of my sight for one day I'll use it to restore my uncle's honor.

As a potential for bonds...
Amy ~ Gleus would be interested in learning about Sarenrae. Particularly her warrior-crusader side.
Keith ~ Gleus grew up near the Fae-filled, enchanted woods of Linnorm. He might actually be very relatable...or suspicious of you.
Silvio ~ It sounds like Silvio is an experienced man. Gleus would love to hear tales about Cheliax.
Chaney ~ Gleus isnt terribly smart himself but he loves to hear written strategy. Gleus would like to read it himself. Chaney could teach him.
Boram ~ Gleus is also fairly cheerful. These two could become fast friends, bonded by their extreme height difference.

YBD, I'm on central time. Usually post early in the morning. On slower days at work I'll post all throughout the day when I can. Rarely get on during the evenings/weekends.

Hello. I've found the thread.

I thought about it a little bit more. You'll find my barebone's character sheet above.

Name: Gleus Hightail
Race: Human
Class: Barbarian
Description: Gleus is a large man, but most of his size comes from a head held high. His light hair and cool eyes betray his northern heritage. A strong body and worn hands suggest a humble upbringing and a rigorous line of work.

Picture.

Backstory: Gleus grew up among the poor people of Southmoor and their contentious ruler Opir Eightfingers. Gleus's parents were slain by trolls when he was young and was raised mostly by his uncle, Strogi Hightail. Strogi was a warrior in his youth but decided to lead an easier life once he adopted Gleus. Strogi would fill Gleus's head with stories of valor and glory ~ stories learned from his fighting days. He instilled his own personal philosophy on what it meant to be a king - a way that starkly contrasted with their current rulership. Strogi believed Opir to be a sham and challenged the Linnorm King's right to rule. But poor Strogi was defeated and shamed. Strogi lost his right arm in the fight but the old warrior stubbornly pushed on. He died two years later in a lumbermill accident.

Alone, poor, and embittered, Gleus decided to move away. He vowed one day he'd return and restore his uncle's honor. But first he needed to become a warrior. Gleus hired on as a bodyguard in a travelling merchant band headed to Varisia. He grew significantly with each passing day, meeting new races, cultures, and religions. Eventually his travels took him to Magnimar and the sea. Gleus steps aboard Jenivere with hopes that lands across the ocean will teach him what it means to be a powerful ruler!

Gleus lives by Strogi's code. Men want to be lead by Kings who live life to the extreme. A King should take what he wants. A King's desire should be monstrous. That is the conqueror's way.

Linnorm sounds perfect. My character, Gleus adventures in far away lands to hone his skills so that he may one day slay a Linnorm in single combat and claim the title of Linnorm King. I like it.

YBD, I've looked it through and barbarian looks fantastic. I want to play an aspiring human conqueror who adventures to gain strength and experience before returning home.

Hello YBD. I hear so many people rave about Dungeon World. I picked up the rulebook awhile back. Its not a game I could run, but I would love to be a player.

I am also veeery new the forum. This will be like post 3? Count me in. I can make an effort to put together this weekend. Your other players have anything in mind yet?

Regards,
PensivePanther

I changed my mind. A flame oracle is the way to go. Maybe some sort of demonic possession thing given the campaign's flavor.

Hello. First time poster! I am interested in trying me some Carrion Crown.

Concept: A distant man obsessed with fire. He covets the flame and treats its destructive nature as sacred. I'm thinking a fire-themed cleric of sorts. I'm quite fond of making warriors out of mages.

@Tomato_Jam ~ I took the plunge.
