Well, after all that, it ended up being a 130 damage Finger of Death from Erigantus that melted one of my members. Sorshen's fight was challenging but never really incredibly threatening, except when the kineticist almost got trapped in melee.

I believe level 9 should be the proper level for Korvosa though unless I'm mistaken? Were you running milestones or tracking XP? Also, I know James has already addressed it, but it's still funny to me how quickly you level up in this campaign - we almost hit lvl 11 and lvl 12 in the same session.


Man, the part with Sorshen is *brutal*. A cr14 encounter when the party is level 9? My party chose to go there before doing anything else in the book too, so they are still level 8. We ended last session on the Time Flayer, if they beat him I'll give them 9, but they won't have level 5 spells... is the CR adjusted by the fact Sorshen is there or something? Her tactics are to invis and GTFO, so we'll see how that goes lol. I don't think I've ever seen an APL+5 combat before in a pathfinder AP though - am I misreading and they should be 10 before that combat?

After looking it over, 28 should be the correct DC. Ten plus half of HD plus Cha plus skill focus are where those values were found, and they are correct when compared to the other DC's without skill focus (frightful moan and malevolence are both DC 26) You are right in that it's a high DC though. The standard DC of a CR 15 is around 23 so she has the potential to be quite dangerous, however I'll remind you that her stare is her main threat and by this point in the adventure, PC's have learned quite well how to deal with flesh to stone.

Shouldn’t it be half of her monster hd, excluding her class levels (of which she has 10)? That would set the dc to 23. I admit I’m a little unsure about this, since the ghost skills do seem to scale off her full level. Also, the petrifying gaze skill for a base Medusa says it just scales off charisma.

Since he's using alchemical cartridges with rapid reload, it should be a free action to reload. I just had him fire 4 shots a round, he still got 1 rounded by our Sohei Monk archer. :(

Planning on adding Qa’al to my campaign l, but upon looking at his stat block he can only shoot once per round? Is his intentional or a mistake? I can’t find any reason this would be intentional, and intend to. Adjust his stats, but was curious what everyone else did.

One of my players is interested in this prestige class, but the special requirement seems quite strict. I'm not sure there's any opportunities in the AP for the party to kill an evil creature with a CR 5 levels higher than the party's level, particularly with a ranger watching. I was considering adding something to the fight in Longshadow, but that could easily turn the tide of the battle and cause a TPK. Does anyone have alternate ideas for how the player could prove themselves to the rangers? How have other people ruled it? I don't think he would be very interested in going to do any sort of trial with the rangers, since the hobgoblin threat is looming large and the party feels the need to stop it, so the battle is probably the last decent chance he'll get.

Also witches do have spells, most of which have more than a 30ft range.

If they have 15 feet of height, and you are 35 feet up, you're only 20 feet away from them!


The players walled off the easternmost door in the basement of the ruins, leaving only the Forge accessible for Kining. What I ended up doing was having Rhysa ask to check out the excavator's body, and while a PC was escorting her they noticed signs of something coming out from the tunnel to the darklands. When they asked Kining she said she heard some yelling in undercommon but wasn't paying attention. Now they at least know something is down there, I think I won't give them the NPC if they keep it completely walled off though. Might have Kining come say something next time, haven't decided.


Hmmm interesting, I have a few players who would really like the ability to buy a few magic items. My current plan is to make her not have what they want on her when she shows up, and she'll have to go on an expedition for a few weeks before she gets the goods. When is their next opportunity to purchase items? I didn't really notice one until longshadow, besides the weird militia "black market" rules and stuff. We have an arcanist who can't use like any of the "wizard" loot, so he's complaining a bit, haha.


Are you running it with the militia system? I am about to start doing the militia in my session tomorrow, one of the possibilities for actions is to use Spellcasters to raise a dead party member. You need a level 3 Spellcaster "unit" in your militia to use it, though, and I am not 100% sure how early you can get that. There are some cool options there, I recommend checking it out!


So my party wants to block off the tunnel into the Darklands in the Troglodyte den, but I also want to give them the NPC merchant. Any advice on how I can work that in? I have a few ideas, but anything would be helpful!
