Liberty's Edge

So I am trying to get my head around the logic of allowing a belt of might to have a +6 option when Bull's Strength is a spell that provides +4. So somehow casters are both more and less powerful than the spell mentions. This would make sense if there is a greater and lesser version of the spell.

Am I missing something or should players just look to create items with their craft abilities that can be more powerful than the spell effects? (I don't really mean that but that's the tone they set and the reason for my consternation).

Thoughts?

Hopefully something I just haven't found..

So I'm reading Scarwall to prep running it and find it confusing without background on the Brotherhood. I've done a lot of searching and can't find a simple explanation of who they are. Given the plot setup in the adventure, I know the adventurers will look deeply at the motivation of those from the Brotherhood so it will help to know the reasons those members will state for their desire to help.

Surely they can't claim a right to help due to being like worshipers of Zon-Kuthon or the like so I'm not certain how they justify any right to help.

Searched all over for an example or discussion and I'm still wondering what effects are there for say 3 characters with 18 STR making a combined check to all push on a larger door to open it? Assuming the door is big enough for all three to lean into/bash it, do 2 of them add +2 each as a standard Aid does for skill checks?

This seems common enough that I must be missing something. Current party has a very large door that needs a 35DC STR check to open. Given a +4 for one character, this will never happen. Others are less STR of course, but I would think they could add.. something. Even those with no STR bonus provide extra force against the door.

Just realized I should have posted this question here:
