Arrived in Ireland somestage midweek. Possibly today. I don't really know, i wasn't here!!

Well, they all decided to play themselves, or at least how they hoped they would be in ten years. We're all friends in real life, so basically the story was that we all went our seperate ways etc etc. There was an explosive reunion in our hometown, as some of the group were less than sane and they fought each other for a while. Then they were captured by a group of human bandits, for lack of a better word, during their fighting. They were imprisoned, and then dragged before the leader. The leader was going to kill the guys and keep the women for himself. Enraged, one of the guys attcked the leader, knocking him unconcious. A large fight erupted, with one person getting killed almost immediatly (she had to leave cause she was moving house and losing her internet connection). A few stray shot started a fire, and the place is currently burning to the ground. Two confirmed casualities, i dunno who else will die. But i don't know how far it'll get along. So many ideas....I guess they'll have to wait for another chance to use them.

Well, fun, story, all those are essential. But in my experience, the adventures where the party keeps making mistakes through bad dice rolls and such are the best one, as long as the DM can accuratly portray whats going on in an interesting way. For example, a party crossing a log, over a swamp. DC 5 or 10. Everyone bar one falls. He tries to help. Pulls one person out, but he himself falls in. Repeat several times. I wasn't actually involved in that game, but i would say its the one i heard the most about.

Wasn't there a desert adventure in the Dark Sun issue of Dungeon? I think i remember it, defending a trading post. It would probably need work, converting the bad guys and such. But it could work, but i dunno if it would suit your requirements.

Well, thats much easier than i thought, i'm gonna have to look into it. Tho i won't be willing to spend a small fortune on the book ;D

To be honest I don't. It was a pbp (play by post, in a forum. I think i explained it earlier). But i could post my kinda introduction thing:

"The darkness that had settled over the world is complete. Glimers of light are few and far between, often sparking the hopes of the local population, but, more often than not, the light is less than it pretendeds to be, crushed, and defeated by the ever present, always encroaching darkness. Some thought that the shadow the Githyanki cast was too deep, too complete to escape. After all, had not an entire world not fallen to them? Not one of the world's so called "super powers" had managed to defend the Earth. Indeed, the loss to the Githyanki had been great, but they can always retreat to their home plane, the timeless Astral Plane, where they may recoup and recover. Humanity does not have that luxury. Despite their overwhelming victory, pockets of resistance, and relative peace still exist, though one can only wonder for how long.

Rumour's reach my ears now of new resistance, and more astral travellers. Words reach me of more creatures we thought mythical. Elves, perhaps. Maybe even Dwarves. I doubt the sanity of those people who spread these stories. What next? Dragons? Doubtful. This is the real world, not a fantasy work, and in the real world there are no heros, no knights in shining armour to defend the weak and usurp the opressors.

No, I belive humanity is lost.

~From the journal of John Reddin, scholar, and Chronicler of Humanity's End, c. 2012, 3 A.I

"I haven't seen anything like it Tom. The scene before me is indescribeable. Hordes of humanoid cretures are in the streets, killing, looting and plundering. They appear to be coming from what can only be described as holes in the sky, in their strange engineless ships. Their numbers seem to be endless, for each ship shot down, two takes its place. It does indeed seem to be a dark day for humanity".

~Last news broadcast of Damien Quinn, war correspondant, CBS News, c. 2009.

The strange invanders have taken full control of the USA. However, they have not yet made any contact with other nations, and any countries wonder if they are next. Emergeny meetings of NATO and the UN have decided that all countries should recall all foreign troops based abroad, and prepare for the worst. No one knows where these invaders come from, and no one knows what they want, yet they are definitly here to stay. Their quick capture of the USA and all its resources are indeed a foreboding shadow of whats to come".

~Extract from the article, A War Yet To Come?, Shane Byrne, The Irish Independant, c. 2010.

The campaign is set in Earth, in the not too distant future. All of the Earth's government's have been overthrown, and anarchy rules. There are a few pockets of humanity left, some living in relative peace, trying to live their lives in relative peace. For the most part, the Githyanki have retreated to their Astral Plane home, however they maintain control of some key facilities, inclusding power plants, weapon silos, and munitions factories. Everyday the Githyanki become more and more familiar with the weapons of the conquered worlds. However, for the humans, every day is a struggle for survival.

There are some who fight to overthrow the remaining Githyanki, others still who see this as a chance for humanity to move past its past prejudices and come together to form a new human nation. Finally, there are those who wish to exploit the situation for their own gain. In such a bleak and desolate land, one where fires burn constantly, and ash is the predominant terrain feature, can anyone hold onto hope...

If ye were familiar with the d20 modern rules ye could be pretty musch anything from that. Think basically anything from a D'n'D world, except for;

Sorcerers,
Mages,
Paladins,
Rangers,
Druids,

Lol. Just kidding. Your character can have philosophies like those of the above classes, just without the magic. There's no magic for humans in this world. Also, ye can only play humans. History for your char isn't really that important as ye are not familiar with the world (either am i really lol). Ye are llowed to have guns, as though the Githyanki control the munitions plants and stuff, there are still an awful lot of guns. However, ammo will be finite. Check here (was a link to the d20 srd ;D) so you have an idea of how much ammo each clip holds. I think one or two clips each should be enough. That way you get to fight, but you still have to think about ammo.

Please post your basic char descriptions etc here for approval. This is gonna be kinda realistic. Also, no Neo, Blade other cool movie hero clones please.

PS All you chars will know each other, so theres no need for dark stranger, mysterious past etc.

I also pointed my players here; i think its an the 2nd ed MM entry for the guthyanki;
http://www.planetadnd.com/interactive_books/mm00131.php

I had big plans for this campaign, but as i said its dieing on its feet. I had intended to have the party save a mage (the githyanki were transporting prisoners, or possibly an inter-planar adventuring party) of some description, and then have them believe this guy could be their saviour. But he ws gonna be a anti-hero, Riddick, style guy. Anyway, let me know what you think.

For inspiration I would say watch a few war films. When i started my campaign, i had so many ideas that were inspired by/stolen from films. For example, a small village, needs defending ala the seven samurai. Or how about your adventurers are tasked with capturing a downed githyanki planar raider (or other planar ship) like in black hawk down, just with the roles reversed.

They were two major points in my campaign. Unfortunatly its not going to well, the whole thing is falling apart, because people are giving up/unable to post. About 3 or 4 out of 8-ish have dies in the first scenario. Grrr...

I dunno if i would be confident enough to try conert 2nd ed to 3rd ed as i only started playing with 3rd ed. Thanks anyway. I might look it up, might just give me afew ideas.

I read a review of the "Torn Asunder" book. Its sounds quite cool. Almost exactly the kinda thin i'm looking for. Thanks guys ;)

Quite you. Please excuse my crap language skills. I meant recurring. As in he comes back again and again :P

A lightening bolt

I was thinking i may have to come up with something myself, but out of laziness, i thought there might be a book out there. I was also thinking of changing the way the "to hit" rolls work as well. Changing them to opposed rolls. So you use you to hit score, roll a d20. The opponent uses his dexterity bonus OR his ac bonus (ie 2 if it was leather [i think]), rolls a d20. If the attacker is higher, he hits, if the defender rolls higher he dodges/deflects the blow. Then you could have all sorts of criticals and stuff for both hitting and dodging/deflecting. I'll post more if people are interested. Or maybe even write a sublission.

Did anyone evr play games workshop's future skirmish game necromunda? You basically controlled a gang of maybe a half dozen men, gangsters of various descriptions, and kicked the crap outta other gangs. It ws kinda cool.

In the rules there was a system of hit locations and the effect it had on his stats. So he got shot in the arm, its harder for him to shoot a gun. At the end of the battle he would roll on the arm injury chart or some such, and find out if he took a serious or lasting wound.

Does anyone know of any resource where i can find these kinda rules for DnD/d20? It would add a level of realism to combat (maybe low it down, but i don't think that really matters), and could offer some cool possibilities. What if you fight an NPC and cute off his finger? He could hold a grudge and suddenly, there you have a recussing villian.

Anyway, anybody any ideas?

Also, if a mountain range hits the coast, it will likely continue, creating a penninsula, and as the water gets deeper, islands. I would say that one of the best things you can do is look at a map of the real world. Most deserts exist near the equator, ice caps at either pole. Its amazing what you can learn from just looking, though if your only creating one or two continents that doesn't really apply.

Rivers tend to run straighter in the mountains and only start to get windy when they reach flatlands. I know here in Ireland, theres geography books for 15 year old kids in school that explin things like how rivers erode and glaciers and stuff that would be helful, tho i don't know if you have those kinda things on your side of te world.

Also, check out this article, it kicks ass.

I've always found that last part to be the hardest part of world-building. It's not so difficult to come up with interesting power items, fantastical races/geographies, and innovative cosmologies. . . it's figuring out how to keep all the stinkin' peasants.

The one problem i always have, is getting my head around the idea of how the ruler of the lands came into power? Though if you think of it in DnD terms the leadership feat obviously helps. Also, if its so easy for easants to up and leave their jobs and become warriors or whatever, why not leave their miserable lives and do so? I know some of them probably enjoy farming, but surely not all!

Wow. This stuff is fantastic! 4 if you will ;D

The fight junkies art really got me! Its amazing! Where can i gt more? Is it an actual comic? You rock!

That is a really good idea, but there are sites out there already. I recommend the FARP or fantasy artists resource page. Its really cool. Admittedly its slow to load.

I was gonna paste a link but its taking to long to load and i'm lazy. So google it.

In my campaign world, everyone takes a level of their race before their first class. There are issues (skill points, etc.) because the game wasn't designed that way, but I greatly prefer it.

Actually Rob, where did you get the rules for this? Is it in some book or are they house rules cause it sounds very cool.

*Hopes its not in a core rulebook for fear of looking stupid*

Thats my name. Patrick Brophy.

Although, being Irish probably has something to do with the PAddy part ;)

One of my longer running aliases is Luthclaoimh, which is Irish for swift sword. Got shorthened to Luth (the swift part) which i think exists in the DnD world somewhere, possibly as someones surname.

lol

One month later and no one interested. Doen't look like people are interested.

lol

121 in Ireland, somestage midweek. Looking good fellas. I'm well pleased.

Interesting idea with the post apocolyptic idea. Do you plan on using d20 modern or wing it?

We're playing it through a forum, so theres no dice or stats involved really. Its all up to the player. So a good player will get hit, injured but ultimatly defeat the enemy while giving a good description, whereas a bad player will go "I chop off his head" or some such, and leave it at that. Its completly driven by the characters roleplaying.

But, if i was to do a live session of it, I would use modern, and use some of the DnD monster stats and such. I kinda want to do a sessio or two for some big set pieces i have in mind, but one of the players is american and I live in ireland, so that could be a problem lol

Lemme know if you wanna trade campaign ideas. I'm looking for soem one else who'd going to be terrorizing with githyanki.

Hey Jay.

I'm kinda running an incursion in a modern setting, for a lil difference. Basically, kinda, DnD hits the real world. However, the incursion is over and the Githyanki won. So in essence, its a post-apocalyptic world, where the Githyanki kicked our asses.

I have a few ideas, like Gygax and all the folks who write DnD books being undercover Githzerai who tried to equip us with the knowledge we needed to win (guess we didn't heed it). Thats one of the more bizarre ones lol.

Another idea i have is for an elite group of Githyanki-Half Dragons called "The Claw". They are specially trained to hunt mind flayers and such. Think the Predator [seen AvP the other day :-)] kinda. Not too sure where i'm really gonna go, and what the chars ultimate objective is though.

My game is a play-by-post in another forum, so its very character driven. i'm kinda gonna let the run with it for a while.

I've seen this on other rpg related forums and it would be interesting to see it here. A play-by-post forum, where basically one person becomes a DM, and players play their characters through posting in the forum. It can be quite good, and even just reading the posts of other people give you ideas for your own campaign.

Admittly you'd probably need two forums, one for ooc (for setting u the campaign, players asking questions and such) and one for the actual games.

Just a suggestion.

Whadda ya think?

Cool, thanks. Looking good, now i have to go steal...i mean borrow..my Dads credit card ;D

Hi.

I'm currently running a campaign involving the Githyanki, and i was just wondering if anyboady knows of any good sources of info for these astral planar ass kickers?

I have that issue of Dragon with the incursion campaign, but i was just wondering, does anyone know any brilliant books/websites? I googled it and got some info, but i would really like the kind of info that you get in the "Ecology of" articles.

329 arrived here in Ireland at some stage during the week, while i was in college. Class, thanks :)

I'm loving this subscription malarky.

Hmm.. well let me see. Everybody involves is familiar with magic the gathering, a few other ccgs, and a variety of rpgs. So, we have all had experience in gaming in that respect. Also, I did pick it up pretty quickly. I suppose it had helped that my uncle/cousin had played it before, and had read the rules. However, bearing that in mind, i still found it pretty simple.

Overall, it was similar to risk, in the way troops and such are maneuvered (sp?) around the table, with a few subtle difference, like not every region starts with troops in it. There are a few more restrictions involved in movement, like not being ble to traverse mountains and such. There are even more rules about whether or not you are allowed to cross over enemies borders, depending on your political status at the time.

Political status is another thing. On the right hand side of the board there is the political track. This shows where all the nations are politically. I'm not too sure how many steps there are, i believe it is 4, and countries can't recruit or attack until they are at certain stages. This is a little annoying, as some of the northern kingdoms were so far down the political track that they were ignored until late in the game, when the evil players got desperate for points (me and my cousin :D).

Victory is achieved in a number of ways. For the good side, they can either drop the ring in mount doom, or get 4 military points by capturing 2 evil citadels. For the evil side, capture the ring, or get 10 military points, ie 5 good strongholds.

There is a whole game mechanic for the fellowship, other heros and the quest of the ring. I'm not too sure how that works, i was just told to do.

What you can do per turn is decided by rolling dice. Special dice. What symbols you roll on the dice determines how many event, recruit etc actions you can do.

Fantasy Flight Games have the full rules on their website, at this address; http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/PDF/warofthering.pdf

I think a newbie could pick it up, as long as they have experience with games in general, monopoly etc, but especially risk. A guiding hand, a third party who has played before would be handy. It would probably be easier for the newbie to play the evil side.

I don't think i've covered everything, but i tried my best.

Hey. Just thought i'd add I have gotten my first issue of Dungeon. Hopefully my first issue of Dragon will be waiting when i get home from college for the weekend.

I would love a copy. i do love making worlds . Mmmm....

Thanks.

Hey.

Was just wondering i theres anyone on the boards attending University College Dublin in Ireland who play DnD. Theres a Games Society in the college, but they suck, and I was wondering if theres any other players near me....

Need to play...

lol

Ok, so last week I played War Of The Ring, the Fantasy Flight Games...game. I must say, it was very, very cool. My uncle and cousin inrtoduced myself and my brother to it over the Xmas holidays. It quite expensive at €60 (or $54 http://paizo.com/store/byCompany/f/fantasyFlightGames/byProductType/cardBoa rdGames/v5748btpy75ga), but i think its very worth it. There politics, war, resources, events. All very cool.

Has anyone else played it? What do ye think of it?

I really like the store. Its really cool that Paizo have decided to become the one stop shop. For example, I really wanted to get some Rackham miniatures, but their website, being in French, was totally undechirable to me. But now I can get them off this site. Fantastic!

I do have one or two suggestions tho. A lil help section saying how much postage would be (unless its fixed, but that should be explained too). Furthermore,I've ordered two subscriptions (Dungeon and Dragon) and three back issues of Dragon. But there nothing telling me if any of its been dispatched. I've gotten invoices, but does that means its dispatched? A lil page like the ones on Amazon would be cool, you know where they show dispatch dates, what was dispatched and when they expect delivery, just so you can keep up with things.

*End Rant* :)
