@Letswalo: Thanks for your understanding. I appreciate it. :)

I'm not sure if Thorongil's player has seen this message, so I'll leave this game up for another day or two, and then I'll inactivate it.

Over the past months I have been seriously considering the future of this game. There have been a number of stops and starts, I know, and it isn't something I had envisaged for the game when I first started running it.

With my ongoing health issues and the general busy period in my RL, which will unfortunately continue until Christmas and possibly beyond, I have decided it is for the best that I discontinue running this game. I have been going back and forth on this decision and have convinced myself a number of times to keep at it. However, with my RL concerns and my waning motivation toward gaming, I think it is for the best that I call it done and mean it to be fair to the players and myself.

Letswalo & Thorongil, I have sincerely appreciated your work and interest in this game. I will continue playing alongside you both in the Spider God's game. I'll keep this game board active until you have seen this post and then I will inactivate the game.

Once again, thank you and I wish you both well. :)

I’ll update this game in my morning as I’m heading to bed.

Night!

No problem, Letswalo. :)

Since Thorongil’s player wasn’t available to post, I’ve made some checks in my recent post simply to move the game forward. I hope this isn’t an issue for anyone. Any other checks, I’ll leave up to you in your follow up posts. Thanks!

The Banker priestess inclined her head and earnestly replied, "Of course," before bidding the trio good night.

Thorongil and Nooria both nodded in agreement to seek out the boy in the morning.

===

The small party exit the countinghouse to return to Stone Hall as the night grows longer and they had plans to set out early morning for Narsus Forest.

As the party moves down the slick, darkened street toward the inn, you all catch sight of a man, dressed in town guard's garb, loitering in front of a dark passage between two buildings. Nooria scrutinizes him with her dark vision. None of you recognise the man as a town guard and grow duly suspicious.

GM screen:

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Letswalo's Perception re man: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Thorongil's Perception re man: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Nooria's Perception re man: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Letswalo's Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Thorongil's Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Nooria's Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

GM screen:

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Utilising the advantages provided by the darkness/shadows and the steady pitter-patter of rain, the three of you stealthily move toward the guard man; the man unaware of your approach.

Letswalo's Perception via hearing: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Thorongil's Perception via hearing: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Nooria's Perception via hearing: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

As you draw nearer to the dark passage between the buildings, Letswalo and Nooria hear a small cry above the sound of rain before it appears muffled and they are instantly alarmed.

What do you wish to do at this time? You have caught this man by surprise this round - he hasn't noted your presence, even as he's loitering and looking about somewhat suspiciously.

Dark Passage Map

Thanks, Letswalo. I got it checked out today and it'll take 3 weeks to heal if I don't aggravate it further. Fingers crossed.

I simply played out the conversation in the evening for ease of rp and time line.

I have no issue with using Thorongil's roll as the main Diplomacy check and adding Letswalo's as an aid.

Arriving at the Countinghouse of Abadar mid evening (around 9.30pm), there is still a light inside, shining through the shuttered window, even as the light rain falls steadily.

Your knock on the door is answered by Banker Baldra herself and with candle in hand, lifts it up to see your faces better.

"Oh, deputies, it is you. I was not expecting visitors at this hour, however you are welcome to come inside, out of the rain."

Moving aside so you may step into the countinghouse, you see the temple is empty except for the elder priestess.

Sitting down at the simple table and chairs, Banker Baldra awaits your inquiry.

Letswalo wrote:

"Greetings, Banker Sifreth. Would you know of the whereabouts and condition of one Kanjo Arran? He may be able to shed some light on the matter of the failed Apsis expedition."

The older woman barely registers a reaction to your question; simply giving a small smile before replying,

"Only two days ago I found employment for the abandoned boy at Stone Hall. He runs errands for the Halflings, which pays for his keep. You will find him there or about town if he is working. He is fine, yet desperate to return to his homeland, as you can imagine. Be gentle with the boy - he does not trust easily or readily. You must approach him prudently."

You sense that Banker Baldra is being very open and is not lying about the boy or his whereabouts and condition.

===

If you would rather play out finding Kanjo this night, then I can proceed with that. The troll finding can wait until the boy is found and questioned. Please let me know what you would like to do. Thanks!

Sorry, I've pulled a rib from all my coughing. It's hard to sit still for too long.

Just trying to gauge the plan of the night of the Sheriff's dinner. The three of you finish eating, leave the Sheriff's home and then around 9.30pm the same night, you wish to visit Banker Baldra to ask after Kanjo Arram's current whereabouts? This is all done before you leave the next morning to explore Narsus Forest (to look for the troll)? Just trying to get an idea of what you're doing, so I can play it out accordingly. Thanks. :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Kanjo Arram was apprenticed to the cleric Magdi Kukoyi, who vanished during a recent Apsis expedition. The boy is now left penniless in an unfamiliar land. Banker Baldra Sifreth does what she can for him, when she can find him. He has no fixed address in town."

Letswalo: You sense that the sheriff is telling the truth and as much as she really knows about the destitute apprentice. Your party may need to make further inquiries to track him down, if you so wish, at some point.

===

I'll leave this post as is in case you may have any followup questions. I'll post the results regarding terrain and troll in a following post. Thanks!

Glad to hear it, Letswalo. May it continue so. :)

I will post responses in my morning. I need some sleep. Good night from this side.

Thanks, Letswalo. Hopefully you're feeling better.

Game post is up. Good luck!

Mid Morning of Sunday, 23rd day of Arodus.

The trio rose a little later in the morning, broke their fast and then set out into the town proper to gather information on the troll that had terrorised Pridon's Hearth only a few nights ago. The guards could give them some specifics, but not much was known about the female troll. (Note the information re the troll provided on the discussion board a few days ago.)

As they were purchasing a few critical items for their next lot of explorations, an invitation was delivered to them by one of the Sheriff's deputies. Adaela Praet was inviting them to a private dinner in her home to thank them properly for all they had done for her cousin, Jheri.

In the early evening, as the rain had settled in a steady but light downpour, after all their errands had been completed, the trio made for the Sheriff's house. Although the Sheriff's home was a humble one; where the surroundings were cramped and the back of the house was still under construction; her cooking was exceptional. Adeala even opened a bottle of quality Eleder whiskey to accompany the meal. Jheri was present; seated at the table even though he seemed to still be a little disoriented from his lack of food and water before the party had found him.

Over the course of the dinner, Thorongil, Letswalo and Nooria learned some of Adaela's history prior to coming to Pridon's Hearth. The sheriff was a former holy warrior of Iomedae; joining the order at a young age after leaving home to train in Eleder. She had served her country as a loyal soldier for many years until her holy vows had brought her face to face with her younger sister - who had become a smuggler and major figure in a Crown's End Besmaran cult. Unable to redeem her, Adaeala finally forsook her vows; turning against her fellow soldiers to allow her sister to flee to the Shackles. Her sentence had been lenient, given the circumstances; enslavement to the Narsus family to compensate them for the goods stolen by the younger Praet sister. Adaela was freed along with Severius Narsus' other slaves when they arrived in Pridon's Hearth. Adaela then used her training to help keep the peace and the count eventually appointed her sheriff despite her previous lapse in judgement. Adaela discovered her sister had died in a barroom brawl mere months after her escape. Adaela now held hopes of spending the remainder of her life building something new in Pridon's Hearth - ideally both a community and a family - but fears the growing storms could see the end of this last spark of hope in her life.

Jheri Praet had remained quiet as his cousin spoke of her sad tale, merely nodding in certain pertinent places during the conversation.

After a short pause where more fine whiskey was consumed, the sheriff began to speak of another concern in town - the Apsis Consortium. Adaela believed the Consortium planned on making the current/younger count their puppet or even replacing him if the colony's situation grew more dire. She believes there is more to Hamsa Gadd's failed expedition than the woman has revealed, and, if any members of the previous expedition still lived, they could provide further insight into the organisation's goals in the region. If the trio wished to learn more about the failed expedition, Adaela gives them the name of a youth in town called Kanjo Arram.

With dinner over, Adaela gifted the trio a bottle of potent Sargavan ale for their travels. Worth 50 gp. Drinking an entire bottle of ale provides a +1 morale bonus on all saving throws for an hour.

Bidding them farewell and good luck, the trio returned to Stone Hall to rest before their early morning excursion into Narsus Forest. (If any of you want to do follow up with Kanjo Arram, you may do so after you return from looking for the troll...I leave that up to you.)

The light rain continued to fall during the course of the night into the early hours of the morning. The town had remained quiet/undisturbed by trouble during the remainder of the night.

=====

Next morning - 6 am on Moonday, 24th day of Arodus.

Upon rising early morning and partaking in their ablution and last minute preparations, the party of three then moved into the dining hall to break their fast and then secure their gear to their pack mule.

By 7am, the party were back on the muddy road leading to Count Narsus' estate. The rains had gone, yet the ground and surrounds were still wet/sodden and muddy. The sun was beginning to rise and it was already beginning to heat up.

The pack mule was less than eager to travel through the mud, yet with a firm hand on its lead rope, it begrudgingly gave in and the party travelled without issue to just outside the walls of Narsus estate - to stand before the clearing leading into the dangerous Narsus Forest.

The time in game is currently 7.20am.

What do you wish to do now? Toss up any relevant checks/rp and we'll go from there. Thanks.

Sorry, today got away from me. And my meds tonight are making me sleepy. I’ll post in my morning and get the game back up and running.

I’ll have you guys leave to look for the troll in the following morning.

Thanks,
Ariarh.

Okay, thanks for that.

It will take you a good part of your morning/day to gather information and purchase what you may need before you ste out again. Do you wish to travel this very evening or wait until the next morning? Before you leave, however, Sheriff Adaela will want to have a word with you.

Only notes available on troll:

Count Narsus, Sheriff Adaela and the town guards know of only one exceptionally large troll in the area - named Graular. The female troll has been sighted in the thick jungle abutting the town - in Narsus Forest. Four members of the Count's staff have disappeared over the past month and this has led the young count to be increasingly wary of leaving his estate, especially after dark, and has declared the woods surrounding his estate off limits. Graular carries an improvised club as a weapon - made from a metal bar ripped off the town's dock storage yard. The Count and his guards consider the troll, Graular, a dangerous predator. She is only sighted at night when she wants to be, as a general rule, and only when she leaves Narsus Forest to forage for food or to loot.

Any previous/earlier tracks would have been washed away by the last fierce storm and the current, daily rainfall. Yet, an exploration of Narsus Forest might reveal something.

On the map below, the Narsus Estate is at '5' and Narsus Forest is at '6'.

Pridon's Hearth Map

- So, I believe you will be dealing with the troll issue first. How do you mean to travel back to the estate/Narsus Forest? On foot again or by horse? To reach the forest from the town proper will not take you long for there is an established, muddy road to the Narsus Estate (about 15 mins walk) which you can travel to reach the forest/woodland which starts just outside the stone walls of the estate. Narsus Forest is approximately 11 miles long and 6 miles deep.

If you then wish to visit Cahsil Village, where the Song'O Halflings live - the village is situated northeast of Pridon's Hearth - almost 2 hexes away - 24 miles - and the village is not near Narsus Forest but well beyond it. Using horses for this exploration?

Yes, I lost a month while I was away. ;) Changed it in my original post. Thanks, Letswalo. :)

I will be formally returning to the game on Tuesday, 1st October. This will give me a little more time to get over the super bug I contracted and be up to regular posting again.

Before then, I would like to know what your plans are for the next stage of exploration. This part of the adventure you decide where you'd like to explore next - the only request made by the Sheriff was to see if her cousin was alright and you have done that to her satisfaction. She does not have any directives on where next you will go and will be satisfied with your plans and the information you provide once you return to Pridon's Hearth.

The following three plans have been suggested via rp:

1. Look for the Lizardfolk tribe
2. Locate and take care of the troll which attacked town
3. Visit the Cahsil Song'o Halfling tribe

There is a link provided to the Korir River Delta Map in the Campaign tab. This will help with the Halfling village location. Please let me know what you plan on doing next.

Do you also wish to purchase more gear or equipment at this stage? If so, what (other than some weapon choices already rp'd) do you mean to buy? Does your party plan to travel on foot with the pack mule or do you wish to hire horses? Remember you still have some good coin provided by the town council for exploration purposes.

Thanks kindly. :)

As I mentioned a couple of days ago I have been very sick and haven’t been on the boards to play.

I will post something over the weekend if I’m feeling well enough. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you, Thorongil.

For now, the game is on hiatus. Once I return, I may pick it up again. I'll let you know on discussion, here.

Thanks, again.

To my players, I've decided to close down this game indefinitely. With my travel plans and other personal issues, I find I cannot continue it at this time.

If I ever do resurrect the game, I'll message you, if you are interested.

Once again, thank you for all your work in this adventure - I appreciate it as a GM and player.

Take care and I may see you on the boards some day. :)
~ Ariarh.

Yes, we tend to take longer family holidays when we can. And, thanks! :)

I was very tired after a long and busy day yesterday and didn't post. I'm trying to recover today and have been equally busy. I will definitely update the game tonight my time when I am a little more rested and up to it. Thanks for your patience. :)

Alright, I'll be making a new post tonight in game.

A courtesy heads-up: On the 14th August (your 13th), I will be flying out for an overseas family vacation. There will be much travel and little time for posting in games. I will be gone almost a month, so during that time, this game will be on a short hiatus until my return. I will start it back up around the 12th September. If it's going to be later than that, I'll certainly let you know. In regard to this matter, I don't want to get too far into the next lot of explorations as I won't be able to move them forward being I won't be on the boards for a month. We have a week before I leave (very busy week for me leading up to my trip) and I will make some posts then, too.

Thanks for your understanding, gentlemen. :)

Thorongil, the Sheriff merely wants to touch base with the three of you properly in the morning before your party leaves again to continue exploring the areas outside town - searching for lizardfolk, song’o and troll. She isn’t going to give you more work - you’ve completed her personal mission and she’s paid you. Just to clarify. I remember you in particular left buying of gear until your return from the Praet plantation.

Nooria smiled brightly upon the kind words of thanks from Thorongil and Letswalo regarding the healing she had provided to them on their trek to the Praet dika farmstead.

Once Jheri was placed comfortably on the long chair and the Sheriff had inquired as to what had occurred, Nooria covered Jheri with the woollen blanket at the end of the long chair for his clothes were still a little damp and she didn't want him catching a chill when his fever had just broken from the red ache.

"Mister Praet, will need rest so he may regain his full strength. Trapped in the storage closet as he was, he did not get enough food and water which only aggravated the red ache. He may not be able to steadily walk on his own for another day or so. Perhaps one of the elder priestesses at the counting house may heal him further with a restorative spell. Mister Praet is not contagious - he managed to fend off the last of the illness this morning before we left to return to town. So, the townsfolk are safe from any contagion."

Letswalo wrote:

"Are these garden oozes normally a threat in this region? The example we faced was quite a threat to us, and we arrived relatively well-equipped."

Jheri "One Arm" Praet chuckled from his position on the long chair. "'Twas my fault. Garden oozes can be a threat if left unchecked. I must have missed that sneaky bugger when I was ridding the farm of the rest. You see, I let them grow in the garden to help with the pests - great at getting rid of rats, snakes and such. Once the pests were under control, I hunted and slew them - but as I said, this one must have slipped my notice. The storm winds brought it into my cabin through the hole in the roof. Unlucky I guess," Jheri gave a lop-sided grin. Looking to Thorongil, Letswalo and Nooria, he added, "Thanks again for all you've done for me. I won't be forgettin' it anytime soon."

Adaela *tsked* and shook her head in the direction of her cousin. "Jheri, you can't afford to take such risks out there, so far from help. It was fortunate I commissioned my deputies here to come look for you."

Turning to the trio, she gave a satisfied nod in regard to their endeavours, "You did well. I am grateful on behalf of my cousin and myself. Now, as promised, your reward." From a small chest by the table near the hearth, Adaela removed three pouches and moved back to the group, handing them out. "One hundred gold coins each for your services to me and my cousin. It appears you have well earned it." Then looking to Thorongil, she added, "It is good you noted the threats in that region - such information will come in handy for future exploration. Thank you."

From his place on the long chair, Jheri grew animated, as much as a still recovering person can, "I promised them a reward, too. Daeli, take this key and open my chest and remove the small pouch on top and bring it to me." Adaela rolled her eyes at mention of the pet name he had for her since childhood - wishing he had not used it before her deputies/agents, and did as he requested without contrary word. Looking to Nooria who had been his sweet angel of mercy during his illness, he gave another lopsided smile and handed her the pouch. "There's 75 gold pieces, there, to share between you. Thank you, sweetheart." Nooria took the pouch and inclined her head graciously. "It is most kind of you, Mister Praet, and Sheriff Adaela," looking across at the woman lawkeeper.

(Please note the 125 gp reward each on your sheets.)

"Alright. I need to finish dinner and see to my cousin. You three are free to go back to Stone Hall and enjoy the rest of your evening. You must be tired and hungry. I will check in with you in the morning. Good evening." With a nod of her head, Adaela ushered the trio out of the drawing room; Jheri waving farewell from his chair, and opened the door. In a low voice, she added before they left her house, "We can discuss your exploration plans on the morrow," and with a small smile she closed the door and moved back away from the door (gauging by the sound of her retreating footsteps on the floor boards).

Okay, you're free to return to Stone Hall and do a little social rp, if you'd like. Once you wake, you'll officially be on Level 3 and we can go from there. :)

Letswalo:
It’s third party - Path of War - feat I came across not that long and I’m fine with you taking it as well. :)

Letswalo:

On the char sheet on Letswalo's profile, the hp are still showing as 13 (instead of 18). Can you please amend that for me? Also, because I am prone to extreme meticulousness when it comes to info providing, can you add spy to the alias line under your avatar (it's only showing Human 3) and also your initiative modifier? Thanks kindly!

You're currently at the Sheriff's place of residence and since they are cousins with Jheri he will stay with her, in her home, while he recuperates. You're where you're supposed to be right now. :)

Looking at his cousin's well-kept wooden house, Jheri turned his head and looked at the tall Northman near his litter,

"When I come to town, I stay with Adaela. This is her home and she'll take good care of me. Someone knock while Mister Thorongil here lifts me from the litter and up those short stairs. Once we're inside, I'll pay you a little reward for gettin' me safely out of my house and into town. Don't forget to bring in my chest and gear/weapons." Nooria looked to Thorongil and quietly advised, "You will be fine to lift him and bring him into the Sheriff's home. There is little chance you will catch the red ache, here and now. Just be wary how you lift him as the man only has one arm. As for the healing of Mister Praet, it is my calling, but I am grateful for your kind appreciation of my efforts, Thorongil." (Thorongil, Jheri already thanked Nooria for her healing, just as a FYI.)

Nooria climbed the short stairs and lifted the unique metal knocker from its base and set it against the plate once and then twice - but not too heavily. After a few moments footsteps could be heard approaching the door and then the Sheriff opened the door. At first her face registered annoyance until she recognised who the people were at her door and a smile broke out on her face at the sight of her cousin, "It looks like you got yourself into some kind of trouble. Come in, all of you, and set him down in the drawing room to your right."

The party moved into the house, closing the front door behind them and settled Jheri on the old, but well-kept padded long chair by the fireplace. His prized belongings were placed by the side of the resting chair.

Adaela entered the drawing room, bringing in a tray with mugs of hot coffee and some sweet/sticky cinnamon rolls. She gestured for the three deputies to take a seat on the single chairs placed around the hearth.

"Now, tell me, what happened..." Adaela addressed the three in her usual direct, no-nonsense manner.

Thanks for the levelling info! You can update your sheets, if you haven't already. :)

I will read the game board tonight and make responses then as I need to go offline for a bit now and do some work.

Just a quick heads-up, on my Thursday (your Wednesday) I'll be travelling out of town to attend my son's graduation ceremony from university. I won't be back until my evening, so there will be no posting from me on that day. I'll be back to regular posting on my Friday/your Thursday. Thanks!

Thanks, Letswalo. It's been a long road filled with illness and I'm hoping to catch a break.

Your party is now back in town. After you've concluded your business and returned to Stone Hall to sleep, you may level your characters.

Once done, please post your levelling info here for me and update your respective alias lines for easy access. (1 new feat and also hp are calculated at average rounded up plus con mod.)

Congrats and welcome to Level 3!

Nooria listened to Letswalo and Thorongil as they chatted briefly among themselves. Any thoughts she had on the subject of their conversation she kept to herself and continued to care for the wellbeing of the farmer.

The two males managed to cover the hole in the leaf-thatched roof with ease and expertise. The rain hit the canopy, yet it held and the small cabin did not fill with more rainwater. They would at least remain dry throughout the night.

Both Thorongil and Letswalo travelled the perimeter of the cabin and could not discover any new tracks or lurking threats with the aid of Thorongil's dancing light orbs.

Reentering the cabin, the three ate and discussed how they would safely transport Jheri Praet back to town. The man had already lost one arm and Nooria was determined he would regain his full strength and Sheriff Adaela would be pleased with their endeavours to save her cousin.

Once the meal was done and Nooria has tended to the farmer, the cabin door was barred/latched and the party lay down to rest/sleep (Nooria rising during the night to check on the ill man).

In the early morning, Nooria prayed and prepared her spells for the day and then helped the farmer drink some fresh water and eat a little food. The party then broke their fast and collected/packed their gear/belongings.

GM screen:

Jheri's Fort Save 2 (DC 15) with antiplague bonus: 1d20 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 5 = 17

Jheri's fever had broken come morning and the farmer had stopped shaking/shivering. It appeared as though his body had fought off the last of the red ache and even though he was no longer diseased, his strength was greatly sapped.

Jheri gave a small, embarrassed smile at the trio, especially at the beautiful Nooria who had nursed him better, "I want to thank you for all your help last night and this morning. I'm sure to tell Adaela about it when we reach town. I'll take my bow and quiver and the chest from under my bed with me into town. I'll lock up the cabin when we leave."

After their morning repast, Thorongil and Letswalo moved outside and collected materials to construct a litter with which to carry Jheri. The rain had stopped, thankfully, however the ground was still wet and muddy. Least the path was not flooded but the marshes and bogs would be somewhat tricky to manoeuvre.

(In the morning, you may take down the tent canopy from the broken roof and fix it with new palm fronds/thatching to make the cabin water tight and you can have your tent back for use in your other travels.)

When they were confident the litter was sturdy enough to carry the man's weight and traverse the twelve miles to Pridon's Hearth, Nooria helped Jheri don his leather jerkin and hooded cloak and settled his meagre possessions atop the pack mule. Nooria covered him with one of the larger blankets that Letswalo had discovered the night before. Thorongil secured the front door of the cabin and they headed out. Even the mule seemed better behaved this day - not fretting over the extra weight of litter and man. Time is 8 am.

With ill man in tow, the party could not travel fast, so they maintained a steady pace across the land; mindful of where they trod and what could be lurking in the surrounding marshland. By the gods' grace they encountered no further troubles as they made for home. Occasionally they stopped for a short break, checked on Jheri, had water and food, and then trekked anew.

By the time the sun began its descent in the sky and the rains had well and truly started falling, the party of five (including the mule) had made their way to the north gates. The guard on duty there noted them, waved and opened the gates permitting them to enter Pridon's Hearth. The gates were closed behind them and the party continued down the simple road through town toward Adaela Praet's private residence down near the aqueducts/bridges (however still within the walled town).

"It's been a good many months since I last came into town. It's nice to be back," he gave a weak, but relieved/happy smile; eager to be out of the litter and set up in a dry, clean bed.

(Alright, you've all made it back to town. The day/date is Starday, 22nd day of Arodus; the time is 4.30pm. You're now standing outside the Sheriff's home.)

My apologies - I've been unwell and injured and couldn't post yesterday. I will make a post later tonight my time before bed.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Seeing Thorongil's and Letswalo's trepdiation in being near the farmer or even aid her in ensuring he was more comfortable and changed into clean clothes, Nooria simply gazed from one man to the other before quietly and steadily speaking, "It is most likely that Mister Praet contracted the sickness from working on his muddy farm. If he has gone without water, food and rest, which it appears he has, then he would not have been able to resist the onset of the disease, succumbed to it and been ravaged to his current condition. He is not contagious; however he is need of assistance and care."

Sense Motive on Letswalo: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

She observed Letswalo moving away and searching the remainder of the small cabin - for what purpose - she had no idea, so she left him to his singular task. Her eyes followed Thorongil as he moved out to bring in the mule and gear, for to leave both outdoors during such a night was indeed unwise.

Letswalo's Perception:

Letswalo, there is very little in way of furnishings or even wealth inside thew small cabin. Most of the sparse, old furniture is overturned on the wet, muddy floor or covered by rain from the hole in the roof. Luckily, the hole in the roof is small in size and seems situated in the middle of the cabin so each side is saved from the falling rain. There is no other threat/danger inside the cabin. There are two oil lamps on the small, rustic side table on your side of the room. They can be lit to provide much needed light inside the cabin. There are four, intact, hand carved chairs in the cabin, which can be used for seating. In the large storage closet, from the open doors, you can see there are some dry/clean, threadbare blankets.

"Alright, I shall have to take care of this man myself," she muttered to none one but herself, under her breath.

Settling Jheri Praet, on the cot, she gently smiled down at him and spoke in a quiet, reassuring manner. "I will retrieve some water from the well outside to wash away the grime and other things. I will return shortly. I ask that you rest until I return and attend to you."

Laying a hand against her thigh, she felt the grace of Sarenrae renew and bolster her resolve/spirits.

Diplo plus Touch of Glory bonus with Jheri Praet: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27

The feeble man opened his eyes, smiled and gave a nod before settling down quietly; shivering slightly.

Donning her leather poncho to make her way outside in the rain, Nooria passed by Thorongil as he was feeding the mule an apple. The stubborn creature was devouring it eagerly from the Northman's hand. He then lead it inside with little fuss. Making her way in the mud toward the nearby well, she lowered the bucket, using the weathered handle, and collected water and brought it back up. Taking the full bucket off the rope, she moved back toward the cabin; watchful of where she stepped in the mud and grateful for her keen vision.

Bringing the bucket inside, she saw Thorongil grooming the mule and setting up camp inside the small cabin. Taking off the poncho and shaking the beaded raindrops from it, Nooria moved to the sickened farmer and set the bucket down to tend to him - removing the old, soiled clothes carefully. She placed his mug into the bucket to replenish his drinking water and then using a fresh cloth she dipped it into the bucket of water and used it to expertly wipe/wash the farmer down before settling him into clean clothes. She used her hand to feel the man's fevered head and he was not as hot to the touch as before. Still, his body was attempting to fight off the remainder of the disease and it would take some time for him to regain his full health. Placing the rumpled blanket, collected at the bottom of the cot, over him, she gently lifted his head once more and allowed the man to sip a little more water from the mug.

Heal Check on Jheri: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

His breathing was less labored and the colour was returning to his face - both were good signs. She would let him sleep a little now and then try to get him to eat a morsel or two to build his strength for the journey back to Pridon's Hearth.

Nooria placed the soiled clothes in the bucket and scrubbed them in the water. Re-donning her poncho, she then took bucket and contents outside, disposed of the dirty water, put the clothes outside on the line to continue to "wash" in the rain. Cleaning the bucket once and then twice, as well as her hands, she refilled it with fresh water and returned to the cabin, placing it to the side of the small cast iron stove. Thorongil had begun preparing a meal for them and she smiled. "I will try to get Jheri to eat something in a little while. You were right to say we should remain here this night. If we bar the door, we can be secure enough. Perhaps we can use the canvas from the tent we were gifted to temporarily cover the hole in the roof so at least this night the rain won't continue to seep in?"

Survival to get the task done or aid someone: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

(Time in game is 8pm.)

The large closet had two doors and Thorongil and Letswalo carefully grasped one each and opened them. Letswalo attempted to reassure whoever was inside that they were there to help, as Nooria had moments earlier.

The doors opened easily and both men were instantly assailed by a foul smell. Inside the closet they found, lying down and shivering/sweating from fever, the soiled and barely conscious/weakened, Jheri Praet.

Nooria from her position just behind her male companions noted the man's condition and quietly instructed, "Swiftly, but carefully bring him out. He does not look like he's in any condition to walk or move by himself. I must examine him and determine what healing he requires."

As the men lifted and laid Jheri Praet on his nearby cot, Nooria removed her healer's kit from her pack and knelt beside the low cot to attend to him.

Heal Check (DC 15): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Nooria keenly appraised the man's symptoms and condition and with furrowed brow turned to her male companions and advised, "He appears to have contracted a mild case of red ache, which has promptly ravaged his body due to dehydration and lack of food. His strength is very poor and his body overcome by disease. I must administer some medicine immediately before attempting any magical healing."

Removing a vial filled with a milky white tonic from her pack, she took out the stopper and carefully placed it to Jheri's lips, using her fingers to manipulate the mouth open, so she could pour the medicine down. "This is antiplague and can aid Jheri in combating some of the effects of the disease. But he needs proper rest in a clean environment to fully recuperate and regain his strength. The muddy, littered interior of this cabin will not do. He must return to Pridon's Hearth with us, as soon as he's strong enough to move him."

Laying the man's head back down on the lumpy pillow, Nooria lifted the golden angelic ankh from her chest and called upon Sarenrae's healing grace in the Celestial tongue; once again excluding the garden ooze from its favour. She did this twice in order to provide greater healing to the sick farmer.

Channel Energy with Blessed Touch and Selective Healing: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Channel Energy with Blessed Touch and Selective Healing: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Nooria has only two channels left this day.

(Jheri Praet is currently (after healing) at 13 HP and is waking up and becoming more lucid. His STR score is only 2. He is stable enough to be moved back to town.)

Jheri's Fort Save 1 plus antiplague bonus vs red ache (DC 15): 1d20 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 5 = 18 (He requires one more save in 24 hours.)

Moving to collect one of the wooden mugs from the floor, Nooria cleaned the dirt from it before pouring fresh water from her canteen into it. Bringing it to Jheri on the cot, she carefully lifted his head and put the rim of the mug to his lips and poured water slowly into his mouth, allowing him to drink a little and alleviate some of his thirst. Taking a cloth from her kit, she dipped it into the mug to wet it and cleaned some of the sweat from his fevered brow.

Nooria laid his head back down onto the pillow and turned to her companions and had a quiet word, "We need to remove his soiled clothing. I saw an old shirt and pair of trousers hanging in the closet. Please help me change him. Do not fear for my modesty; as a healer I have seen people without a stitch of clothing."

Jheri moaned a little from the cot; trying to adjust his eyes to the soft light provided by the magical orbs still floating inside the cabin. When he tried to speak, his words came out low and raspy, "Thank you. I was thinkin' I was go..ing to die in there." After not speaking much since his confinement in the closet, the farmer began to cough from the exertion. However, the mild hacking soon stopped as he closed his eyes and gave a little shiver from the disease still lingering in his body, but not as vigorously as before.

Nooria stepped forward, looking and listening for signs of life.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Not being able to discern anything of note or interest, she quietly called out, believing there is no danger at present, "Hello, Mister Praet. Are you in here? The garden ooze is dead. We are deputies of your cousin, Sheriff Adaela, come to help."

Letswalo's Perception Checks:

Letswalo most keenly assessed the now still, slain garden ooze. Most of the fibers were rent and even now lay blackened/shrivelled on the wooden floorboards. Nothing of the small creature can be extracted or saved as whatever digestive acid coated the fibrous appendage now ceased to trickle freshly down the shaft.

The cot has a rough-hewn straw mattress and disheveled threadbare sheets and old cotton blanket and pillow. Beneath the cot is an old wooden chest - a good lock can be seen keeping its contents secure.

There is nothing on the table; the tablecloth is on the dirty floor, among the wooden plates and mug.

There are no other obvious threats in the small cabin; no other ooze companions waiting to strike the unsuspecting.

Once again, Letswalo's eyes take in the large storage closet and on closer inspection, he can see a piece of fabric - faded, red plaid - possibly from a shirt, sticking out at the bottom of the closed doors. At first there are no sounds except for the dripping rain through the hole in the roof. After Nooria's question, he hears something - a faint tapping and low moan - coming from the direction of the closet. It sounds like something is trapped inside it.

Round 3

Nooria takes a 5ft step back and loads a new bolt into her light crossbow. She aims and fires at the garden ooze.

Ranged Attack on Ooze: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage, if hits: 1d8 ⇒ 8

With the combined attacks of all three, the ooze succumbs to its many, severe wounds and falls to the littered wooden floor, dead.

==End of Combat.==

Seeing Thorongil suffered from lash and acid, Nooria took the golden angelic ankh in hand and called upon Sarenrae's healing grace; excluding the ooze from its succour. A warm wave moves and coats Thorongil's tender wounds.

Channel Energy with Blessed Touch and Selective Channeling: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The red, still burning/raw skin begins to repair and readily heals under the gentle wave of healing energy.

Thorongil, you're back to full HP. Your shirt has a hole eaten through it, on the shoulder, via the acid, though.

Round 2

Nooria loads a new bolt into her crossbow and fires at the garden ooze.

Ranged Attack on ooze: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage, if hits: 1d8 ⇒ 4

---

Thorongil's arrow strikes the ooze for 3 pts of damage. Nooria's bolt finds no passage.
---

Round 2: Garden Ooze

The small garden ooze slithers/writhes forward 5 ft and and its acid-coated appendage slams into Thorongil.

Slam Attack on Thorongil: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage, if hits: 1d4 ⇒ 2 plus 1d6 ⇒ 2 acid

It manages to strike his shoulder and the acid burns the clothing and flesh.

Thorongil takes 4 pts of damage.

End of Round 2.

Round 1: Garden Ooze

The garden ooze slithers/writhes forward 5 ft and with its whip-like appendage coated with a potent flesh-eating acid, it lashes out at Letswalo.

Slam Attack on Letswalo: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 (Fail)
Damage, if hits: 1d4 ⇒ 1 plus 1d6 ⇒ 4 acid damage

Unfortunately, it cannot find mark on the Mwangi's flesh.

Garden Ooze's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Heroes win initiative and go first. So we're into Round 1!

Letswalo, drawing his bow, attempts to hit the small mass of fibers, but unfortunately his arrow does not find mark. (Didn't hit.)

For general visual aid for this combat:

Jheri's Cabin

The cabin on the map isn't the exact sq footage of the cabin as stated in the narrative, but it doesn't matter. It's simply there to help you see where things are situated. You are able to move your tokens on the map when it's your turn to act. :)

Please note: Tomorrow is the wedding, so I'm off the boards until my Monday (your Sunday). Have a great weekend, gentlemen! :)

Please roll Group Initiative; the modifier is +3. I'll then toss up the garden ooze's initiative and we can go from there, depending on who wins initiative. Thanks.

Nooria's Perception to aid Letswalo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

With both Thorongil's and Nooria's aid, Letswalo's Perception is 24+2+2=28.

With the aid of his two companions, something catches Letswalo's eyes among the other leafy debris strewn about the wooden floor boards . There is a plant with large, thick leaves about ten feet directly in front of the closet doors. The faint moonlight streaming in from the hole in the ruined roof and Thorongil's warm, pulsing dancing orbs seems to highlight a diseased portion to half the plant. Your keen eyes discern that the diseased portion doesn't look to be part of the plant at all, but is in fact a separate, subtly moving entity attached to it.

Know. Dungeoneering or Local (DC 12):

What seems to be a mass of diseased fibers growing on a plant suddenly moves and slithers independently from its sickly host. Before you is a Garden Ooze! Quick and cunning hunters when compared to most oozes, garden oozes are particularly dangerous because they readily attack creatures that wander nearby regardless of the creatures’ size.

A garden ooze has the ability to camouflage itself and can be difficult to spot among plant growth. When a garden ooze attacks, it lashes out with a whip-like appendage coated with a potent flesh-eating acid which can dissolve the flesh of nearby wanderers.

When first injured, the garden ooze can release a foul-smelling gas to poison and sicken those nearest it.

These oozes are also known as rat-catcher oozes or compost oozes, and some brave gardeners in the region actually encourage the growth of such oozes in their gardens as a way to combat pests. Once the pests are under control, however, the oozes themselves must be hunted and slain before the garden is safe to tend.

Thorongil, no there's nothing beyond this room - the small cabin is basically one room/living space which has multiple functions. (It's basically a 16x32 single storey cabin (511 sq ft)). There's one door in and out and that's the front door. Gauging from the single cot inside the cabin, you can safely assume only one person has been living here.

Circulating the four small light orbs about the small interior, Thorongil can just make out an old wooden chest with a lock under the bed, but no hidden foe, and, what appears to be some strange diseased section on one of the larger leafy plants on the wooden floor just before the large storage closet.

Thorongil wrote:

"Hello? Is there anyone here? We are seeking Jheri Praet on behalf of the Sheriff of Pridon's health," he calls out in a loud voice.

The question is met with silence for a moment before you can hear a very low moan coming from the direction of the closed closet, then another moan before registering a faint cry, "Hel...p ..." and then nothing more.

Nooria's Perception, to aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 (+2 to Letswalo's roll)

In quiet voice, Nooria responded, "I believe the storms have brought the debris and have ruined the roof, there. Still, let us carefully draw closer. I can see well enough without the light, so it matters little to me. But I am not opposed to your magical light, Thorongil."

As the party advances to the cabin, Thorongil reaches the door and finds it closed but unlocked. Carefully he opens it; the rusted hinges creaking at the slight pressure on the frame. Everything is still and relatively quiet inside the dark cabin (except for the pitter-patter sound of the rain). Moving the dancing light orbs within, and pressing back the shadows, the party can see a single room makes up most of the interior, save for a large storage closet in the far corner and a nearby small, single bed. The rest of the furniture inside the cabin is upended and there is plant/leafy debris scattered across the dirty wooden floor (which makes it hard to see the boards) possibly brought in through the opening in the roof. Rain is dripping through the hole in the roof and into the middle of the cabin. There is no sign of Jheri Praet.

Signing off the boards. I'll post more tomorrow. Night!

Busy and a little stressful at the moment as my niece wants everything perfect. But hopefully Saturday will go smoothly and everyone has fun. Thanks, Letswalo! :)

I'll make one more post tomorrow in game and then I'll be off the boards until my Monday 15th July as my niece is getting married this coming weekend and I'm in charge of making decorations for the church, setting up; among other things.

Don't worry, we can pick up pace come Monday. :)

No, there is still a partial set of human footprints/indentations in the mud leading into the home. They would have been made in the past 24 hours. The leaves and leafy debris is scattered all around the front of the house. Safe to assume it was due to the storm.
