Nogrogomed considered trying to hide behind a tree or in the brush, hoping to surprise the little buggers when they arrive, but remembers he is not a nimble little halfling. Instead, he decides to be the bait, standing in the clearing waiting for them to arrive. Perhaps being big, green, scarred, and bleeding will scare them in to submitting.

Nogrogomed will continue to take a Total Defense action until the enemy is in site and he has a chance to act: AC increases to 19

"Finn, perhaps you could position yourself in such a way that would allow you to charge once they rush me. Lucian, perhaps you could take advantage of your stealth to stab them in the back?"

Sensing that his decision to go tree hopping perhaps wasn't very well planned out, Nogrogomed takes one last swing at the kobold before jumping down and moving toward his next target.

Nogrogomed, sullenly looks at his falchion and back at the kobold up in the trees. He lets out a bestial scream as loud as he can, waving the falchion menacingly.

Nogrogomed cast Leaded Blades, swiftly activates his Sudden Speed ability, and uses a move action to advance up to 60 feet, depending on the layout, hoping to provide a spot to allow Finn to charge anything that my pop up behind him.

"Opalia, where I come from you earn your glory by the scars you carry. Defeating a foe with overwhelming force while being unharmed may be a great show of prowess to some, but to my people it means you have not challenged yourself appropriately. That is not to say every fight needs to be a near death experience against vastly overpowering enemies, but respect is earned the closer you get to balance of maximum risk to yourself and your ability to overcome that risk. For a largely graceless people, I believe my clan has found a fundamentally beautiful mechanic for discovering oneself - what you can do, what you can handle, how you can improve.

The trick is, of course, being able to assess yourself and your enemy to gauge risk before you get yourself killed for taking on more than you can handle. In regards to the owlbear specifically, it was certainly more of a challenge than I anticipated, but not every loss results in death. From this defeat I will grow, and I must say I think the new scar is rather lovely."

Nogrogomed spends the first part of the morning having a quiet, yet intense, conversation with his mask. The mask can be seen over his shoulder, hanging from a branch. With his back turned to the party, he makes attempts to turn away from anyone who might try to glimpse his maskless face. After an hour or so he rises, stretches, and after eating his trail rations, puts on the mask. While everyone else is going about their morning rituals, he whiles the time away cleaning and caring for his falchion.

While working to free the creature and ascertain its condition, Nogrogomed asks,"Finn, I believe it likely that any intelligent predator familiar with this area who has previously steered clear of these spiders will find it odd that they would host a fire so close to their webbed meals and possible lairs. Perhaps we should avoid the attention. I'll leave to you all to decide.

In any case, I will happy to take the first watch. I can see just fine with or without a fire.

"Perhaps it is a religious motif, but I don't know much about such things. I admire Pharasma, but I'm not sure if she would love this or hate it. Death is the great leveler. In any case, I'm curious how recently it has been visited, and perhaps what manner of tracks have been left. Again, I'm not sure I'd expect goblins to have this much attention to detail."

Nogrogomed feels very conflicted, and confused, by his inability to understand this monument. Death should be respected and embraced, but he's not sure if this is proper respect, or disrespect thereof.

He'll mull over this, but for know he is cautiously looking for traps, remaining wary.

I've known a few goblins, even learned their tongue, but I'm puzzled why they would bother to mount the head at all and not just eat it. Or pickle it. Those buggers will pickle anything. Makes me wonder if these are odd goblins, or something else entirely."

Hmm. Perhaps we have an over abundance of melee, 5 if you count the dog. Each will want to be in the front for various reasons. Not unmanageable, but perhaps it won't be so easy to settle on a generally acceptable order.

Should we establish a standard marching order to make it easier for the DM to understand our general orientation? Being a front-line fighter with decent perception and survival, I'm happy to be up-front. The wild cards are Finn and Lucian. Finn will need space for charging, and I'm guessing Lucian will want one of two things: To be upfront to make use of perception, and have a chance to act early for surprise round sneaks, OR to hang back, giving us rear guard perception, and the ability to come forward once we've set up flanking positions for him.

I've used the map from the last encounter to try and parse out possible set-ups. We could space it out of course, but I just threw it together for context. Warpriest, witch (plus donkey), and cleric in the middle, me and Finn up front (me for perception, he for chargability) the archer and rogue in the back.

Alternatively, we could move the rogue to the second rank so he can still provide perception, but can move forward or backward to react.
