Sorry, for being away so long, between work, holidays, and an auto accident, the past month or so has been really full and hectic. I'm getting caught up now.

It's hardly possible for Nisli to not be aware of Braegan approaching her with the stew. He's directly in front of her as he approaches her table and she's looking at him. Still, she seems unprepared when he offers her some from the pot. Her reaction appears to be less one of surprise than stress, as if she doesn't know how to answer the question right away. Her eyes are wide as she looks up into Braegan's. she also furtively slides a sheet of paper with a list of plants on it over her writing in the book.

"Um, h-hello... Y-yes, I would like some please, if you have enough to go around..."

Nisli thanks the dwarf for the filled bowl he gives her. Until he moves on she waits, almost at attention in her chair, as if she's ready and determined to do better if he should say anything more.

After Braegan moves on, she moves the sheet of paper away and goes back to her writing. Every now and then she stops to nibble at the stew, almost as an afterthought.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

When the man approaches her to make his request, any observer can see the same tension enter her body when she realizes he is coming specifically to her table rather than walking on by. She looks at the man and smiles, but the smile isn't genuine, more one she's told herself she should wear because that's what people do. Again she slides the sheet of paper over her writing. She neglects to say anything herself until he's made his appeal, which seems to catch her interest and deflate her at the same time.

"I... I'm sorry. Uh, what you heard isn't quite right. Y-you see, I'm not a diviner or seer. I-I've never talked to spirits or read fortunes before... I-I could ask the birds?"

Nisli seems to squirm and shrink a little after saying so, as if embarrassed to offer such a poor substitute. She continues though trying to explain.

"B-birds, um, you see... T-they see quite a lot. More than people realize, b-because they aren't often noticed.. And they travel far..."

"M-maybe I could find one who saw something of the man you're looking for?"

I'm going to assume Nisli's perception check is good enough to overhear Lily and Raquel, especially since she's trying to overhear what people are talking about.

Nisli hears Lily and Raquel bring her up in low voices. She's hurt, but not surprised when Lily gets her name wrong. Nisli knows she's not memorable, but she's here often enough that she thought the people who worked at the place might remember it right.

She wonders if it annoys Raquel that she comes here.

Is it because I don't order much so she gets less in tips from me? Does she not like the way I look? Does she think I don't like her? Is there some amount I should be drinking here and I don't so I seem odd to everyone else?

Her speculations make Nisli anxious. She doesn't know what exactly Raquel finds distasteful about her, but Nisli has also learned well by now that humans don't tend to say precisely what they mean. Ultimately she's flustered by so many possible reasons for her creating a negative impression and decides it's best to avoid Raquel if she can. She doesn't know how to disarm the woman's disapproval and doesn't want to further offend.

Nisli keeps her head down and remains busy so the women won't realize she's heard them.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

Nisli sits at a small table by herself. Her white-blonde hair, skimmed milk complexion, and the hazy gray cloak she hasn't taken off make the edges of her form slightly indistinct in the low light. She could almost be mistaken for a trick of the lighting, or a patch of mist settled in place.

She has a beer with her, but it's barely been touched. Instead she is focused on the small book in front of her, scribbling hurriedly as though she will forget what she wants to write if she's slow to get it down on paper.

Aside from the soft scratching of her writing she makes no other sound, as if she's mistaken the tavern for a library.

All this is typical for Nisli, no mystery about her presence. She passes this way between her home and Restov, or the cluster of buildings that comprise the Broken Broadsword two or three times a week. Restov is her destination usually, but she checks in to see if there are illnesses or injuries to be taken care of at the inn first. Sometimes there is enough to do there to make going further unnecessary.

This all sounds good to me. I'm fine with google docs or Roll20, all the same to me.

Thanks for the nice casts perks for Druids! Nisli will stick with a bow, but I doubt I'll invest much in it, probably no more than Precise Shot. I expect she'll be too busy casting most of the time within a couple of levels.

Restov or environs works fine, Nisli just needs some forest nearby. Or maybe not. Living out a ways of the Rostland Plains in a little stone and sod house works too. More sky to see.

I might think about putting together a second character if I find the time. I was thinking about an Antiquarian Investigator / Slayer who's all about making herself rich dealing in rare items, less Indiana Jones and more René Belloq.

Oh, a build question as well for Oblivion's Scion.

I assumed that all the things that change class abilities given in the DG rules apply to the main class even if the class is unmodified. For example the Druid weapon proficiencies change from the normal listed weapons to a single martial weapon group due to the Druid's 3/4 BAB?

That's why Nisli has a bow. I chose the Bow weapons group. I'm assuming she is no longer proficient with the scimitar or scythe because she doesn't have proficiency in the heavy blades group.

That's correctly done right?

Yeah, same here, Brevoy, the River Kingdoms, maybe Iobarian borderlands. That's why I have Nisli's origin in Galt, it's approximately nearby every one of the places.

It's a huge chunk of space though, so my impression is we'd be narrowing it down.

I believe we're deciding as a group where the general setting for the campaign will be. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Nisli is a very pale skinned, platinum blonde girl who comes into the Broken Broadsword occasionally each week. She lives in the forest outside town but comes in to ply her trade treating the ill and injured.

She's a mousy one, chubby cheeked and baby-faced with larger than average front teeth when she smiles. She's quite slender, to the point it seems a feather could knock her over. The mousy description isn't just physically apt; Nisli is also bashful and quiet.

Nisli tends to be awkward socially. She's not good at small talk and shies away from much engagement with others at the Broken Broadsword, definitely a wallflower.

If you're familiar with the animated show Bigmouth, Nisli has a lot in common with Missy.

Hello hello! Thank you Oblivion's Scion!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Best of luck everyone!

I finally finished off Nisli's background/appearance/personality sections and bought major gear.

I might add a couple of small purchases yet since she still has a bit of cash on hand, but I could also see her being the thrifty sort.

I'll take another editing pass through the character sheet tomorrow, but she's otherwise done I believe.

Oops, forgot to roll HP.

8 + 3d4 + 12 ⇒ 8 + (3, 3, 3) + 12 = 29 + 8 CON + 4 FCB = 41 Total.

I'm feeling pretty good about that!

Good enough to scrap Toughness and take Improved Initiative for a 1st level feat.

Alright, I think I'm almost there! Thanks for your patience with question answering GM, I seem to have my head around the whole thing now, and at least know where to look for this and that in the creation rules.

Nisli Griova Highlights:

Nisli is a Sylph Sky Druid / DG Ashiftah Witch

Str 10, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 18, Wis 17, Cha 10

Sylph = +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Con. Background is Chirurgeon with +2 to negate Con penalty and -2 to Str.

Advance will be in Spell Casting.

Boon Feats: 1. Ghost Walk 2. Hex: Evil Eye, 4. Hex: Cackle.

Sky Druid with Air (Wind) Domain.

Standard Feats: 1. Toughness (Still mulling this one over a little) 2. Extra Hex: Misfortune.

Traits: Magical Lineage (Spell Unassigned currently), Affable, Slippery.
Drawback: Naive.

Crunchy Things: Nisli is 3/4 BAB but that will mostly serve for durability, she's not built for melee. She's a caster druid who will be using Summon Nature's Ally spells if she needs to produce damage. Doesn't seem that will be the case often given the collection of bruisers submitted so far!

Her spells selections will focus mostly on support through buffing and control. I'll be sticking to air, wind, weather, fog/mist, and lightning themes as much as is reasonable. I have to be rather vague about spell casting right now because the Druid spell list is new to me.

Nisli has a lot of skills in class, and Rogue levels of skill points per level. She would also excel as a scout with high stealth, perception, and Wild Shape when she gets it in a couple of levels.

Nisli will have Hexes for debuffing and some utility/support. They should be very handy when spell resistance rears it's ugly head.

Fluffy Things: Nisli is from Edme in Galt originally. Her parents taught at Torvin Academy. Her father taught Natural Philosophy (an older catch all for the biologcal sciences as a group), and her mother taught Magical Theory. Early in the revolution (Nisli is a young 68 years old) her parents fell victim to the revolution.

Left with no means of support in a nation where relatives had been named state enemies, and looking odd is dangerous, Nisli left soon after for the wilderness, where the skills her father had taught her allowed her to survive. She made her way out of Galt and settled down (wherever we are). She lives outside town but comes in often, where she makes a living as a healer and tries to socialize.

Regulars at the Broken Broadsword would know her as the odd young woman who comes in alone often to try to socialize. She talks little herself, and seems to be listening to everything. She seems pleasant all in all, but something about her is a little off-putting, like she's snooping or trying to insinuate herself into groups who don't know her by pretending she's one of the gang. Maybe she's been poorly socialized or something like that.

Anyone who thought this would mostly be correct. Nisli hasn't lived around people for quite a long time now, and isn't sure she would want to. She bashful, and not assertive. At the same time she's terribly curious about what's going on in town. She goes in often to watch and listen, so knows a surprising amount about day to day happenings there.

Tropes: Airbending, Rhiannon, Mist Maiden ("She's just a slip of a thing, but very hexy.") Awkward Girl Full of Potential, Forest Foundling, Caught between Two Worlds, Woman at One With Nature, Nature Lovers are Hippies, Smarts vs. Social Skills, Harriet the Spy...

I'm still writing up the background, and other non-mechanical parts. No gear purchased yet. Hopefully those will get done today, but it might be tomorrow.
