That is unfortunate. I am sorry to hear that. It's been great playing with you (if you can read this).

"Well, there is my attempts to get to be a better shot with a pistol, although I doubt I'll ever near your level of skill, Ser Barton." He pauses for a moment and grins slightly, "Although, I wouldn't think it's that hard to hit your foe at a lance's width apart." He shrugs, "My polearm has a spike and could function as a serviceable lance for a charge, although that is a lot of stress on a weapon."

There's another pause. "Only two, but maybe five men would be a more reasonable number of exaggeration..."

Letting people know I will be out of contact until most likely late tomorrow.

During the watch, Nemius will ask, "Ser Barton, doesn't this all seem strange to you?"

Nemius, surprised and relieved by the sudden series of events seems a bit stunned for a moment, only snapping out of it when Ser Cortain slaps him on a shoulder. He falls into the procession as it passes him, taking up the rear. Did Esmara smile or was it my imagination? he ponders for a moment as he follows the group.

When he exits the armory, he looks down at the dead men on the deck. I did that some of that... His stomach begins to feel a bit uneasy looking down at the first men he'd slain. He quickly looks up, forcing himself not to think about it, but unable to shake it completely.

Nemius is set aback from the sudden fury and furor from the man in the corner. Paracountess Thrune begins to lay into the man before he comes out of his stunned state and quietly thanks the woman for doing it for him.

He hears Ser Cortain call out and rushes over to the door. "She's safe, sir. Just a moment and I'll have the door open." Finally, it's over. He lifts the bar off the door. He calls out, "The door's unbarred," as he sets the bar to one side.

Male Human Cavalier 1, HP 13/13, NL-HP 0/13, AC 17, Touch 11, Flat-Footed 16, F +4, R +1, W +1, Init +1, Perc +5

Nemius ponders the question, trying to keep his eyes within easy scan of the door. "Betrayal, fanaticism, nationalism, outside parties seeking opportunity." He thought about the events a bit more, "They targetted you directly. Where they perhaps trying to make a statement or attempting to interfere by slaying the leader?" He shifted uneasily.

Nemius looks to the Paracountess' handmaiden. "Do you have any skill with a weapon. I'd suggest that you arm yourself just in case." He turns from the door and walks to Paracountess Thrune. He keeps himself turned as to be able to turn quickly to the door while speaking to her. "Are you unharmed, my Lady?"

Nemius fights the urge to glance at the door with every strike. Hopefully the battle will be over soon. I'm sure that Ser Cortain and the others will have this handled quickly.

Male Human Cavalier 1, HP 13/13, NL-HP 0/13, AC 17, Touch 11, Flat-Footed 16, F +4, R +1, W +1, Init +1, Perc +5

Visibly shaken by the shot, Nemius freezes for a moment, only seeming to come to as Esmara shouts. He turns to look out the door, before spinning about to slam the door shut and throw the bar into place on the door.

"That'll hold for a bit... I think... I hope."

I've got to keep the Lady Thrune safe. He glances over his should at his charge before turning back towards the group. Provided he has the time, he'll attempt to fling open the door to the armory, giving it a cursory look inside. His mind wanders for a moment. I hope the others that I met are still alive.

If needed:

Perception Check to scan the armory quickly: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Nemius rolls the end of his polearm over the blade and rotates the halberd over while stepping into the man's guard, forcing the sword down and bringing the axe blade in line with his opponent's neck.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

With a shout, Nemius charges the invaders, driving his halberd forward.

"For Cheliax! For the Black Hearts!"

He sends a feint down towards the man's foot, quickly retracting the weapon and plunging the spear point towards the man's abdomen.

Charge Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Nemius follows behind the countess and her maid, keeping an eye out for any that might break through the defenses and chase them. He keeps his halberd ready and light in his hands, prepared to attack should assailants show themselves.

He's not really paying as much attention to anything in front.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Nemius stands up from where he hit the deck, his ears ringing from the cacophony of sound. As the battle rages, he pauses for a moment, breathing slightly in and out. Calm, remain calm. Fear is death. He grabs up his polearm and looks around for Ser Cortain and Lady Thrune.

Another Perception check just in case the first wasn't for those two.

Have a safe trip. That's a really long distance to go, but with why you're going, I can completely understand it.

I also have to say that so far, I'm really enjoying the game and the direction its going. I know its early on, but yeah, I'm waiting for the response.

Target Practice

That's six shots total. I'll roll against the ones described. If you want me to roll another one, just let me know at what distance.

1st Shot: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"Ummm... That was terrible, I'll try again."
2nd Shot: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
"Much better!"
3rd Shot: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
"That was a good one, right?"
4th Shot: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19
"Woo hoo!" He bounces up and down a bit before regaining his composure and coughing slightly, and obviously fakely, out of embarrassment.
5th Shot: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 2 = 20
Nemius whistles, quite proud of that shot.
6th Shot: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 4 = 0
"Wait. Where did that one even go?"

Kayla:

Nemius hands her a brush and smiles slightly. "It'd probably be easier for you to reach there than me anyways. I'm sure you'll get a chance to ride one, though, but if not, let me know and I'll let you ride Thunder. He's a bit of a priss, but he should mind that much." He stops to think for a moment. "I'm not sure, but I imagine there'll be much fighting... and dying. I'm excited by the prospect, but also very afraid. I worry about screwing up, but more than that, letting someone else die." He goes quiet for a bit.

The First Week

Nemius spends his time during the week following orders and doing chores as requested and expected. He asks, some what frequently, but trying to be mindful of not annoying the others, about the possibility of sparring more often. He's eager to improve his skill with weapons and it shows.

He'll keep an eye out for the other youths that he met, albeit briefly, in the kitchen that night. He seems to take particular pride in tending to the horses and even talks to them, especially with Thunder.

Nemius will approach Ser Barton and ask if the knight can give him a few pointers about shooting a pistol, remarking that he's not the best shot.

Approaching the Arch

Nemius stood at attention, behind Ser Cortain, trying his best to look fearless. He had mentally run through the preparations earlier this morning, checking that he had cleaned and polished all of his gear to the highest of standards. He could feel the tension in his legs and the unsettled churning of his gut. It almost felt like his knees were going to start knocking together and he imagined the sound they would make when they did. That only made the churning worse. He wished sorely for a visor so that he could hide that grimace that he was sure was on his face. Despite all of this, he managed to keep his face set and stern and his body straight and proper. He hated his reactions to formal events like this, since the intricacies of the interaction amused and intrigued him.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

He spots the ship leaving port and raises an eyebrow. He leans near to Ser Cortain and whispers, "Ser, there seems to be a boat leaving port. This is unusual and against protocol, correct?"

"Maintaining armor and weapons, most specifically Ser Cortain's, running messages and errands, and various such other tasks. We've been drilling some, but there's been no time for sparring matches. It's been frustrating. How am I to improve my skill at arms if I cannot fight?" He sighs.

"I also take care of the horses. Thunder, Frenzy, Pantheon, and three others, but yes, Thunder is mine." He smiles for a moment, "I've helped raise him since he was a foal, so he's kind of like a little brother to me. He's pretty easy to recognize, too. Look for a dark bay destrier that thinks he's the best. He'll be looking for food too. I keep trying to tell him that eating more will just make him fat." He sighs and shakes his head. "He's such a demanding horse." He smiles slightly.

I was having a bit of trouble getting into character at first, but it's flowing a bit more easily now. I think I'm playing him a bit too old right now...

Takes me a bit to really get into character.

Personally, I love detail. There's more stuff to read, which is great. :)

"Hmmm... It'd probably be alright for him to have an 'occasional' apple." He nods his thanks to Matei. "Well, not everyone working for nobility is full of themselves. Sometimes, the nobles themselves aren't, but..." He sighs, "That's a bit more of a rarity."

Nemius grins as he manages to locate an apple. "Ahhh... there we go." He retrieves a knife from drawer and starts to cut the apple into several slices. "I can't say I disagree with you." He looks to Atlas for a moment. "Although, I won't be voicing that loudly, mind you. Honestly though, I've found more meaning in the words of other deities, ones often considered foes to the Archfiend, although they're still worshiped in grand old Cheliax." He stops cutting for a moment and pushes a couple of slices of apple towards the two others. "Do you want any? Thunder can be greedy at times, but I figure he'll not mind if I don't make a point of letting him know." He grins and pops a slice of apple in his mouth before going back to slicing the remaining portion of the apple.

Nemius shakes his head and sighs, "What scum... Pretending they're worth anything. Their behavior shows that quite plainly."

He watches the serving girl and the hellknight aspirant leave and begins to search the galley for a snack for Thunder.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

He glances at the other two in the room as he searches, "Would either of you two happen to know where something such as a carrot of similar vegetable is? I promised Thunder a snack when I returned, so I do not wish to return empty handed." He sighs as his search has turned up nothing so far.

Male Human Cavalier 1, HP 13/13, NL-HP 0/13, AC 17, Touch 11, Flat-Footed 16, F +4, R +1, W +1, Init +1, Perc +5

Nemius works slowly and gingerly brushing his horse. "Easy there, Thunder. I know the waters are not a comfortable place for you, but we'll be back on land soon enough." He continues to speak calmly and plainly as he brushes the horse, letting the sound of his voice help ease the animal.

Hearing a bit of commotion from the galley, he turns to look at door. "I'll be back in a minute, boy. Rest easy and I'll return with a snack for you." The horse's ears perk up at the last part of the comment. Nemius puts down his brush and walks over to the galley. He pushes open the door after hearing the last bit from the three men.

After listening to words of the other teens in the room, Nemius looks towards the three drunken men. "It's sad that even such a thing needs to be mentioned." He gestures to Lucanus. "Aren't those of noble blood supposed to comport themselves in a 'noble' manner? Why is it that there are so many nobles that think they are so much better than they really are?" He glares at the men.

Assisting Lucanus with intimidate.
