Hi there!

So I don't usually post on these forum's and don't know if this is where this goes... (if not, let me know and I'll move it!). Anyway, just like the title says I'm looking for a hook that sounds fun to use both Eldamon and the Monster Parts systems from the Battlezoo Product line in my PF2 Homebrew continent. I plan on having 3 Players and giving them each a free archetype at level 1 along with the required 'Eldamon Trainer' class so that they can fight alongside their Eldamon using a Minion-like trait where if you give 1 Action away to your Eldamon it gives them 2 Actions, and you can give up 2 Actions to give them 3 Actions. Each (The PC and Eldamon) still having it's own reactions. I will be using a mostly Full Variant for Monster Parts (still considering Consumables like Potions).
______________________________
Here are my Hooks so far (these are kept brief so I can tweak them, but want to know a general consensus on what others might find as fun to know where to start prepping):

1. Messenger's of the "Dove Delivery Service" - Deliver important messages to tough to reach people. One of those messages requires your attention. With your connections you are the only one who can really get to the bottom of this.

2. “Sparking” Eldamon - A twisted Eldamon Researcher is testing his experiments on the melding and energies of Eldamon. You were sent by the RedMane Government to stop these threats and this menace as Eldamon with varying traits are effecting the environment and other creatures. His threat begins to spread to an seemingly unstoppable foe who takes ill because of this and goes on a rampage.

3. Open Trade Routes - Battle a number of foes to get trade routes open as permitted by the Government's approval. Meet traders in exchange for Monster Parts. One of the Hold Leaders (dominate monstrous leader of a particular area) has a major problem with this. You have to prep for somewhat of a minor war with that Hold for opening up their territory.

4. Effects of Evolving - A Researcher and her Eldamon are studying the effects of Evolving. Some of the research backfired so it was stopped and bad Eldamon were created from it and disappeared from the lab. They need to be recaptured. As you are capturing more of them, it seems this bad feature is spreading to others. You need to wrangle them all together and stop the spread of the negative trait to other Eldamon!

5. An Adventurer’s Guild Start-Up - Need to prove your team's worth and rank up in the Guild! There are bounty boards and missions posted that your group can decide to go on to try and triumph over other members for fame and glory. Depending on which ones you choose your guild will grow in certain ways.

6. Iced Over! - The usually hot area of the West Peninsula with Coral Reef Mountain sides and Orange Sandy Beaches has gone silent. Reports have come back that the area is suddenly frozen over! You are a part of a rescue team to go in and see if there are any survivors and if there is a cause for this Ice Block! Prep warm gear and get some fire supplies as you’ll need it for your journey! It seems that interesting beasts that aren’t usually in the area have moved in because of the cold!

7. Stranger’s to Starry Lake - You appeared on Starry Lake Island one day and have no recollection of your past like a few others. You are determined to live a new life on Cam and make the best of it with a strange set of skills you have. You were ‘adopted’ into a mysterious underground group who does good deeds for others.

8. Timely Treasure - You come across a Qitophet (Eldamon) who has just become evolved and is being hunted by treasure hunters who was to break apart her body to make into jewelry. These hunters threatened that the next time they come they will have something that can unphase her so that she will be forced to fight. She urges the players to look into it for her for a share of her collected treasure. A few Eldamon nearby want to help out but need to grow stronger. Upon the baddies defeat treasure will be rewarded.

9. A Phasing Problem - People have started Phasing Out (Which is odd in my world because the Trainers and Humanoid Creatures do NOT phase out). You are asked to look into it by the Eldamon Researchers. It leads you to discover and research more and more powerful Eldamon to try and find the solution.

10. A Band of Misfits - All traveling together with a caravan, you arrive in a city that is suddenly in dire trouble. Just escaping with your lives, you are the only witnesses to an event that you know needs immediate attention. You will have to fend to get allies to assist you and convince higher ups that this is indeed a problem while surviving dangers against you at every turn. Then face this major threat.

11. The Chimera Teacher - You find a Lotusnek (Eldamon) who is oddly weak that has an appreciation for a mystical Chimera it’s heard of that could make it into it’s evolved form. It asks your assistance to seek out and bring it there.

So I am curious. Does Detect Magic go off if you point it at a magic user like a wizard? If not, is there anyway to tell a certain person uses magic?

I was wondering this for an encounter where the Pcs need to be screened and checked before entering a building, and of course they can take weapons away but they are also smart enough to know about magic users and want them to stay out. I guess writing that they can take away spellbooks, foci, spell component pouches,...can they still do magic without that stuff? They are technically still 'magical' right?

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. It's 4am. And this question is keeping me up. Lol

Hi everyone!
I'm not quite sure if this is the right place for this, but I had a vision for an opening scene for a game and wanted to see if we could turn it into an actual 5e session or campaign to play.

---
So it's pretty broad, but here it is:

The PCs are traveling through a desert and are hungry, lost, and broke. When night arrives they see a village/town that is full of people who are celebrating a festival and partying. The PCs are warmly welcomed and asked to join in the party. They drink, dance, meet people, and are able to sleep inside one of the residents homes to rest.

When the PCs awake, the village is empty. There is not a single soul in the house they are in, or anywhere. There are still some of the belongings laying around of the people they had met that night.

Now I don't know what kind of condition I want the villagers belongings to be like in the morning, but I want to make it obvious that they need to take some certain items before they leave the town because I want the villager who the item belonged to, to manifest at night and explained that something or someone has done this to them. The manifested person would have to be outside of the village to remember that this is a problem since every night they manifest in their home village they party and act like nothing is wrong. So at that point they plead to the PCs for help.
---

That's all I got so far. So I am asking for help from the community to help me brainstorm some ideas to make this more and have some reasoning for doing stuff in this story. I haven't done much DMing, but love the times I do, and would love to make a homebrew campaign or session.

Thanks ahead of time!

I have been thinking about making my own homebrew pathfinder world for the last few days and have gotten nowhere. I have ideas, but I don't know if they are good or not. So I am coming to the paizo forums to get some feedback on my thoughts. (I'm going to go crazy if I don't get them out of my brain!)

I will probably have 2-4 players. I was thinking of talking to them each seprately for an opening scene to the campaign of them living in a small town on an island. They will be going around doing some of their daily life stuff (and I will throw in a few small incidents where they can use skills) when suddenly a gaint black swarm of monsters appear along with the main monsters which consist of a smaller version manticore, a cocktrice, and a chimera. They are all led by a wizard who is laughing cruely as the town is just being demolished and people are killed left and right. I will try to let my players know that they don't have a chance and need to run while avoiding obstacles and helping others (if they choose to). They will run to the beach and find that their is a single small wooden boat and they all see each other and get in the boat. They get away safely.

However, trouble is still there as they have never gone this far into sea before. After a day or two of being on the boat, a bigger ship appears and rides beside them. This new boat is full of pirates! They look down at the little boat and can see everyone is hungry and invites them on the boat as long as they entertain them.

Depending on how things go, I may have a navy ship appear and try to take down the pirates, but either way they get to the shore of a city. They have no money or food and will have to find shelter during the night. I will have a couple places available to sleep in the city. I will also tell them (through an NPC) that there are 'familia's' which are like guild families that take in adventurers. If they try to get into a familia, they will be rejected multiple times and when things look really grim I will have one of the heads of a lesser familia offer to take them in. She will bring them to an abandoned church that is her home and they will soon realize that they are her only familia members. She is happy and wants to help them out, so she gives them money to buy cheap weapons and tells them to go attack some boar outside the city for boar hides.

During some boar fighting, I will have things get a little overwhelming and a man will appear to help out. After the fight, he explains how he has to stay around this area because he is actually a ghost who is cursed. He says the only way he can be put to rest is by having someone get his love's broken sword blade out of a nasty creature's back and give it to her. It was a sword he had gotten for her. The ghost explains that in order to deafeat the creature, they will have to go on various missions to get items to upgrade their gear. (So based on their weapons I will have appropriate quests) Then, after a lot of questing, I will have them take down the monster with the sword in its back and return it to the woman who has since her husband has passed, give up adventuring and actually has a new lover with kids now.

Anyway, after that I will try to tie in more about the creatures that destroyed their homes. Maybe add some rumors. I would like, when they are going through a forest, to have two knights kill a dragon in the distance, and the PCs hear about how the dragons loot will be up for grabs now. The PCs will have to race the knights to find the lair and get some sweet loot. (As long as the other monsters don't take it first! haha~

So what do you think? I feel like it's too railroady. I will have some quests in the city with NPCs if they choose to go that route. This is a very rough idea of these things and are a little more fleshed out in my mind.

Thanks for reading.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I wanted to start this thread because I want to open my mind to different types of backgrounds and concepts pathfinder characters can have that are creative. I like to think I don't automatically assume I know who/what your character is/does based on race and class, but I see it all the time from other people and feel I may be doing it too.

I recently made a character who was an Unchained Rogue and in the Silver Crusade faction. I felt it was weird to have a rogue in that faction because well, I steal stuff right? That's what rogues do. But maybe I can steal from the rich and give to the poor like robin hood? That would make me good, right?

When I showed my husband my character sheet, he said "Silver Crusade?" I told him the robin hood thing and he seemed kind of disappointed. "Just because you are a rogue doesn't mean you have to be a thief. Maybe you like taking things apart and putting them together so you know how things work and that makes you a great lock picker!" He gave a couple more examples of other classes and backgrounds playing a roll. For example, a person who is a doctor who has become a monk as well. They know all the vital points on the body and know exactly where to hit.

I thought this was so cool. I wanted to hear from others about their characters or others they have seen. I'm hoping to get inspired and create something that will be really be fun to play.

Maybe I am just tired of creating stereotypical characters. Like the barbarian who is a buff, hairy man/woman, wears furs, and is an angry, bloodthirsty killer. Why can't a barbarian be a noble who gets pissed every time blood gets on his/her new expensive clothing. And each time they get to a town they change clothes, and when they fight, "I JUST BOUGHT THISSSSSSS!!! RRAAAAWWWRRRR!!"
Or maybe a barbarian who is a lovely girl who has a split personality. I don't know. lol

Thanks for reading! (and if you post, thanks!)

So I am GMing a game in two weeks and my PCs feel that things have been a cakewalk. One of them requested that I shake things up by doing a more spooky, scary session. He wants me to "Freak Out" the other players and I thought this would be a good idea.

I've never ran anything to be particularly "scary" (but I am also a new GM). I was thinking of getting some inspiration from Silent Hill, and the Hills Have Eyes.

I imagine them finding an old, burnt down home, but further investigation reveals a trapdoor that leads to a basement which is still in tact. The room will be strange, with symbols and writing on the walls. Jars of pickled creatures. Maybe some chalk drawings on the floor. With a Perception check, they find a secret door that leads to an underground dungeon. After a series of traps (one which will separate the PCs from the two NPCs traveling with them), quick scares, and exploring, the dungeon opens into an enormous cavern that has a few hills with shabby looking houses on them. During exploring I will have monsters appear like half melted people, the bottom half of humans walking towards them (I was thinking the top half is there, just invisible and they can attack with claws), shadows, a being that is wrapped in stitched up flesh and all you can see is an eye looking at you from the opening (it wiggles around in the wrappings but can't walk, it instead teleports around and attacks with supernatural abilities), deformed humans, screaming skeletons, and maybe some zombies (Why not?)

The few homes will be wrecks. One will be a single room just covered in blood. Another may have a haunt.

The last room, as you walk up, you hear screaming. At this point (if the PCs didn't leave already), I will have a scenematic moment where this humanoid with a black bag over his head and a fake smile glued where his mouth should be, is standing in the middle of a room brutally murdering the NPCs. It should be clear that they get the /fudge/ out of there! The humanoid begins to move towards the PCs and a chase scene starts as they go back through the traps and hallways.

I haven't decided what happens to those who get left behind.

That's all I got so far. Please give your thoughts on it. I am willing to tweak it, or try something else new. My PCs are only level 3. lol My players have been getting a lot of treasure so I don't know if I want there to be treasure, or have it be purely for a story to tell.

*Tips hat* Hello hello!

I thought my PCs wanted cool gear and magic items, but all they do is sell it! I was informed today by one of my players, that instead of doing gear/magic items, to give the PCs some fun items to play with. He said, "For example, a wand that has a button on it. And when you press the button, bubbles come out." lol

Another thing we came up with, was a tiny construct, that had a coin slot. When a coin (copper, silver, gold, or platinum) is added, the construct grinds it up and is activated for 24 hours. When activated, it asks for a target, and when someone says their name (or someone else's) the construct sees them as its master and serves them for that day. It can do basic tasks and doesn't get involved in combat.

I mean, it's kind of quirky, but I want my players to be happy. ^^; Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I have this question originally for my Kingmaker campaign, but this encounter could be used anywhere. I am asking for some inspiration for my idea.

I want it to start out with a catfolk woman and a kistune man meeting the PCs (both fuzzy humanoids are rogues, but they will try their best to conceal it). They are very friendly and affectionate people. They tell the PCs they are treasure hunters and are closing in on their next big find! They work to sway the PCs to join in on the adventure (knowing they need to go into a deadly cave-dungeon thing.) They will use the PCs power and knowledge to get through. Then when they find the treasure, they will swoop in for the attack, not wanting to share their loot.

Does that sound too cliche? Is it a good idea or does it need tweaks? I'm never really confident in my ideas so I always have to ask. xD

Hi guys! I couldn't find a good list for this, so I decided to create my own. (Sorry if it was obvious. I have been looking for hours!)Please add to it when you can!

This list will probably be spoilers for players playing in people's campaigns, so just be aware!

Here's what I did so far.

1) In certain places on the map there are stones placed in the form of an X. My players, super hesitant at first (thinking it was a trap), dug up the area and found some treasure maps which led to loot. They believe these are left by the bandits as a sort of "Drop Off" point.

2) On the west side of the map, in a blank hex, I made a cave. When the PCs were near the cave, they heard crying from a child. Investigating, they found a little toddler crying next to a woman in the mouth of a cave. The woman was barley conscious (laying in her vomit), and was pregnant. The woman was very ill. But the PCs quickly worked to restore her health and feed the child. During periods of recovery she transformed for just a moment, revealing herself to be a werewolf. (This was my random werewolf encounter). The PCs still took care of her regardless and did their best to befriend her when she was better. She asked of her husband who had been gone for awhile and if they could find him. (It's later revealed the Stag Lord and his minions killed him. The werewolf father's fur is hanging up in the Stag Lords room of the fort). I plan on having the werewolf family move into the PCs kingdom when they get it started. We will see how that goes.

Hello everyone,
It's about 3am and I'm up thinking of pathfinder. I had this idea awhile ago, but it just now occurred to me to ask for some help from other pathfinder lovers to flesh out the idea.
So here is what I have so far:

- A pirate captain was overthrown by his/her crew. The captain goes to the pathfinder society and requests help. Even though they are notorious, they strike a deal with the society saying the society can have the artifact of an old map the captain had gotten (but now the crew has it in their possessions) as long as the captain gets their ship back.

-The pirate captain knows where the ship and crew are docked. And had heard rumors the new captain was looking for crew members.

-Whether you pass as a crew member, or steal the map somehow, you have to cross the ocean to a small, undiscovered island.

-During the ocean sailing you come across some sort of sea beast.

-When you reach the island, the map has two different ways to go. If you do some checks you can find the right way to go. If you are with the captain and his crew, they will split the group with the new captain going the other way.

-As you travel through the forest you fight ...something. Cannibals, Gaint Spider, ..creature of sorts.

-Then you find an area with ruined stone buildings. A tribe of kind Vanara live here and possible protect the treasure the society wants. The crew wants to kill the Vanaras. You could kill the Vanara, or work with them the kill the crew.

-Not sure if the treasure should be something that keeps a great evil at bay. Maybe for a part 2?

-Once you have the treasure and try to leave, the captain and the rest of the crew find you and it will be the final fight.

-Then, well go home happy of course!

So, what do you think of the idea? It has a lot of holes, but I would love to work with people to make it actually work so I could use it with my players.

Hello all,
It started with me thinking of traps for a puzzle box. If one of my players missed a disable device check, a trap would spring and small needles would project out of the box and poke their hands. I was thinking that these needles (instead of being poisonous) could make the players hands go numb, giving them, maybe a minus 2 with things they do with their hands for a little while. I was thinking less than an hour. But I don't know if that makes sense? Is there something out there about numbing, or somewhat disabling body parts? Or if your whole body went numb? I mean, I'm just playing around with ideas and I'm pretty new to GMing so I won't be crushed if there isn't or it doesn't make sense. I thought it would be kind of cool/funny. I know my group would make the situation humorous, and there is a chance it wouldn't happen if they got the check. It would be a Fortitude save right? Thanks!

ps: I'm not quite sure if this is the right place for this question? Please correct me if I am wrong!

I am GMing tonight, and I want one of the loot items my players find to be a puzzle box. After making some engineering, disable device, and maybe a lingustics or intelligence checks, I would like there to be a prize in the middle. My players are playing Kingmaker and are only in book one at level 3. But I want the prize to be exciting and fun. I don't know exactly how large a puzzle box is? Thanks!

I was thinking of creating a character who was a human who would enjoy feasting on gnome flesh because it was a delicacy in her native tribe. She has only been living in the cities for about 3-5 years trying to become civilized, but still has this hunger. I imagined her being polite and helpful, just hungry for gnomes. My GM says there can’t be any evil characters in the campaign and deems her as evil. Even though it’s just the way she was raised and doesn’t think it is bad. I imagine her just making jokes about nibbling on gnomes when she sees them, but he says that is still an evil character. I was reading another post about someone wondering the alignment of their character and someone said something like, “It doesn’t matter what your character thinks about it, it is still evil.” Even if it’s flavor is it still evil? I don’t see her actually eating anyone during the campaign. If Humans eat Gnomes or any other race is it cannibalism? The GM said that eating any other humanoid would be, but I didn’t really agree.

I also wanted to make another character who was a Tiefling dominatrix and sadist (especially when it comes to hurting or humiliating enemies). But I was told that was an evil character too. I thought it would have been funny and fun to play. Is there any way to play someone like that and not be evil? I feel stupid for asking about this, I guess I just suck at determining alignment. Some help on how either of these characters could be played without being evil would be nice. Thanks.
