Thanks for your input, guys, I really appreciate it. My gaming dollar is rather limited of late.
I'll pick up the River Kingdoms guide and go with that.

First, writing as a relative noobie to the setting itself, I'm under the assumption that the Kingmaker AP actually takes place within the Inner Sea region. If it doesn't, well, I guess this post is moot.

If it does, I'm wondering what the value of the setting book is when weighed against the $50 price tag. I know the APs are self-contained, but if there is enough value to warrant the purchase, I'll consider it.

On a side note, I also wonder about the balance of player goodies vs GM tools. I don't know how many so-called campaign settings I've skimmed through that are little more than a collection of PrCs, feats and various player props. Well, enough to turn me off of anything D20 for the last several years I suppose.

I think it's just that simple, actually.

As it stands, unless I want to subscribe, I have no reason to ever purchase a print copy of a product from Paizo's store. Why should I? I can just go to Amazon and get it cheaper, and with free shipping.

Do you really think this has anything to do with supporting your local FLGS or throwing a bone to Amazon?

Here's a thought:
Why not add an if/then routine to the Paizo online store? If the customer is not a subscriber, then direct them to an additional page which says something like, I dunno,

"Hey! We noticed you're about to purchase the print edition of blah blah. Why not take advantage of this One Time Offer! Click here now and pick up the pdf copy at 50% off?

Oh! and by the way, if you subscribe, you get the pdf for FREE!."

Oh boy! A bargain! Who can resist a bargain? Ain't Paizo grand?

It doesn't take a sale from anyone, because the customer is on your store site anyway. Is this hard? Will this not generate extra revenue?

Ah nuts, just forget about it. I've got some Scrub's episodes to catch up on.

Oh for the love of pete.

I can't imagine a single reason why someone would not subscribe...unless they weren't interested in the current issue, or maybe they hate drow or heaven's forbid, campaigns based in the desert, or maybe they are only interested in a previous AP, OR maybe they only game enough to consume one book every three or four months and thus don't want to subscribe. But all these reasons, like Ross's entire post, are utterly beside the point.

It doesn't matter why non-subscribers exist, only that they do. The only question, I repeat, the only question Paizo needs to ask is this: Do we want to make $19.99 per issue off these folks or do we want to make more?

Can anyone tell me why the answer to that question should be something other than yes?

You get a *free* pdf when you subscribe to the print edition.

Gee, Jack, thanks for pointing that out. Man, *how* did I miss that detail?

I apologize, people, if I'm treading on already covered ground. I'm only trying to point out what I see as an extra source of revenue. Just a cursory glance of the message boards will reveal a number of folks who, like me, either can't afford to subscribe or lack the gaming time necessary to make a subscription worthwhile.

We non-subscribers are given a choice. Most of us, I'd venture to guess, choose neither to subscribe nor purchase both forms of the product. This equals lost revenue for Paizo. Can anyone argue that this statement *not* true?

As for the e-coupon security excuse, every major online retailer uses online discounts of one form or another. If Paizo were that concerned about online abuse, I seriously doubt they'd use electronic formatting at all. ***sentence redacted by Joshua J. Frost***

From Joshua J. Frost: Please do not use our messageboards to point people toward places online where they might illegally acquire copies of our products.

Me: Consumer of Paizo gaming goodness with a limited budget and busy schedule, ie...neither the time nor the funds to justify a subscription.

The tough choice: Pdf or Hardcopy?
Which to choose....which to choose?

Answer: I have to pay full price for both?!? Wrong answer. I choose one or the other. Less money for you.

Solution: When I purchase a print copy of one of your products, you email me a coupon for the pdf copy of said product. Now I can purchase the electronic version at a significant discount.

Why? Because you love and cherish your valued yet economically strapped customers. And because otherwise, I will not purchase the electronic version at all. Extra money for you, added convenience and joy for me. The world is a better place for all. Gnomes and small furry creatures everywhere rejoice.

Now, don't you feel better? I do.

I'm thinking about running an adventure path.
Which of the adventure paths provides

a) the least amount of dungeon-crawling &
b) the most intrigue/social encounters?

Has Paizo continued their love affair with the massive dungeon crawl*, as they did with the Dungeon era APs, or have they seen the light and discarded that cumbersome relic of gaming days of yore?

*no offense meant for lovers of the 'MDC'

So,

My player finally uncovered Rowyn, and after defeating her, decided to make her walk the plank. The thought here was that since she caused so much grief to the crew, the crew needed to see justice done.

Now I'm left with the question of what to do with her now.

My options are:

1) Let it go. She's been defeated twice now, enough is enough.

2) Enough is never enough! Let's bring her back for more!

If I go with option 2, I have several possible re-insertion points. I could have her come back as Vanthus' partner later, either during the attack on Farshore or at Divided's Ire. Or, I could have the player discover her in hell in the same state that Vanthus is eventually discovered in. Or, you guys could think of something totally different.

So, give me your opinion!

Hi,

I never received issue 147 of Dungeon. I recently moved, but I changed my address under 'My Subscriptions' and it is correct. I've also been checking at my previous address and it apparently hasn't arrived there, either.

Please let me know what to do in order to receive a replacement issue for #147.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

It appears that you changed your address after we had already processed issue 147, so it was sent to the previous address. Rather than depending on the labyrinthine and deeply mysterious world of USPS forwarding, I'll just send you a replacement issue.

Thanks,
cos

Thanks for the prompt response! You guys are great.

I'm preparing to run 'Bullywug Gambit', and a reference has struck my curiosity.

In Kraken's Cove, the Trophy Cave K8, there is a reference to a badly eroded nameplate of a ship. The only legible letters are "T...M...AUT".

I haven't found anything else on it, and I haven't seen anything in the later adventure.

What gives?

I've been having all sorts of fun with the Meravanchis in my campaign. My player is about to start the second adventure, and Zebula is already dead as a direct result of PC actions.
The family seethes with adventure ideas, I can't wait to incorporate the rest of the clan.
BTW, does anyone have a list of the rest of the family members?

I noticed this as well. My solution is that the ship the party intends to use to travel to Blood Bay will be chased off/captured by a returning pirate fleet, thereby forcing them to return to Sasserine on foot.

It is then only sensible solution I could come up with.

This thread is for anyone who has converted AoW from standard d&d.
Arcana Evolved, Grim Tales, D20 Past, True20, or something else entirely.

If you've done it, I want to know about it. How did your players enjoy it? How much extra prep time was envolved? etc....

Thanks!

By the way, which email address did you send your message to?

uh...this one I think...customer.service@paizo.com

I'm pretty sure I used the email account that I registered with, but it's possible that I didn't. I asked for the web enhancement for 'Flood Season', plus any other Adventure Path web goodies that are no longer on the site.

Thanks for the quick response!

How long does it normally take for customer service to respond when you email them?
Just wondering, 'cause I've been waiting a couple of days, and I haven't even gotten one of those 'We received your email, but we don't have time for you yet' responses.

I had trouble with this over the weekend.
I was running Acrobat Reader vr 6.0.2, so I removed the latest update and downgraded to 6.0, and it worked fine. Hope that helps.

Also, I just started running the adventure path over the weekend, so far, so great! But if anyone has any of the web goodies that are no longer on the website I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
Munin
