Holidays... Almost... Over... <Hiccup>

Spoiler:

I’ll copy Plan C into Maya's datapad and copy the contents of her datapad into my own. I’ll swap out datapads and leave hers searching for any other escape pods available and for any low use rooms (like supply closets, warehouses, etc) adjacent to the conduit.

I’ll use a force point for this too. 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 7 + (5) = 26

Now, let's see if someone takes the bait.

Leaving the datapad plugged in, I stand and stretch.

“So much for Plan C. It’d require at least one Mechanic and a droid, and probably someone good with Demolitions. I think that leaves us short one Mechanic. Oh how I would have loved to have recorded their faces as we made our getaway.”

“Anyways… Gareth, would you care to accompany me to my quarters? I have a few possessions to pick up in case some one else becomes injured.”

I walk out of the room, waiting long enough to find out Gareth's decision and then walk back to my room.

Just noting that I'm still here and about. Ansic just doesn't have anything in the way of Mechanical or Engineering skills, nor is he particularly computer savvy so he just hasn't had much to chime in with.

No worries... I feel the same way about Mechanics, Piloting, and... Um, combat? Can I say combat? Anyways, I'm so full of anticipation for everyone else's posts and for the story to continue... My efforts to not monopolize the thread are starting to fail. Is it possible to be a twitch PBP player?

After getting Rogen's introduction... Or after I've diagnosed him with narcolepsy...

While waiting for two or three of the remaining party members to say they are an engineer or mechanic...

And while waiting for Ailith, Corvus, and Kael to... leave, find information about this Switch fellow, and return...

I'm going to try to check to plug my own datapad in and do some online querying myself.

Spoiler:

I'll start looking within the various online databases (like Craig's List, Ebay, Freecycle, used car... Er... used starship dealers, etc.) for a bare bones escape pod or two. Shouldn't be too hard to find since I imagine the people I'm getting them from WANT to get rid of them. Might as well start pricing them now.

Gather Information or Use Computer (both are +7): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

I’ll also start looking for vacancies that are adjacent to the conduit. Preferably something rentable for a couple of days or maybe a week for pretty cheap.

Gather Information or Use Computer (both are +7): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

My goal here is to take this from plan to something executable by the time Ailith, Corvus, and Kael get back.

Plan C:

Step 1: Find a vacant room next to the same conduit we want to use. Cut a hole in the conduit using some of those fancy plasma torches half the party seems to be carrying around. Slap a patch on/in it with a hatch. Take 20 wielding a seal.

Step 2: Find a used escape pod we can cut up and rebuild inside the conduit. A stripped down escape pod would cost as little at 400 credits.
A. An escape pod is only 4.5-meters to a side and can hold 8 medium creatures. Easily able to carry the entire party and still be within the 8-meter by 8-meter limitation.
B. Yeah, yeah... The person doing it would need to be immune to radiation and have mechanics... But aren't droids immune to radiation? As long as he has mechanics, we can take 20 on putting the escape pod back together inside the conduit.

Step 3: Have the HK-22 fly the escape pod up to the area we might need an emergency exit from. Have him seal to the conduit wall; plant a homing device, and a circular charge... Then wait for if/when we need the emergency exit.

Usage: When or if the need arises, the circular charge goes off. The floor/roof drops to the floor of the escape pod. Everyone jumps in and we leave. As we leave, the fools attacking us get slapped with radiation. When we arrive at our hatch, everyone gets out... And we go on our merry way.

Spoiler:

So... Is this something we can actually do in a fairly limited time frame... Or, um, have I been watching too many A-Teams on the ABC re-run station?

Spoiler:

I'll wait until Ailith, Corvus, and Kael walk out of the room. Then I'm going to check the datapad for the type of quarantine and the size of the station's primary exhaust system's conduits that run through Storage Bay V14. I will even go so far as to hooking it up to a data port to get the information.

Use Computer check 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

I can't help but think of the absurd open areas that seem to haunt the Death Stars and Cloud City in the Star Wars movies. Heck, Luke even managed to get a pair of missiles into an exhaust conduit... Would it be too much to hope that the conduits are at least 3 meters by 3 meters so a character could walk around in them? Even better would be like 12 meters by 12 meters?

Ailith's lekku twitched as she stared at the screen, running possibilities through her mind. With a final twitch of frustration Ailith snapped her head up to look around the room and reached out to hand Maya's datapad back to Marius.

As Ailith looks up, Mr. Marius blushes and drops his eyes downward. When the datapad enters his vision, he looks back up and while carefully taking it from Ailith, fumbles a smile at her. "Er, um... Thank you."

If we could get some trooper armor, some of us could disguise ourselves and maybe act as if we belong." She reached up touched her head. "I'll never get a helmet on, of course - but I could come...

Spoiler:

Continuing my internal monologue… I wonder… Just how big is a space station’s primary exhaust system conduit? Could a person crawl or even better walk through it? Is like even bigger than that? Could we make a dumbwaiter or use an escape pod to traverse it? Oooh, speaking of shopping… Probably ought to rent a cargo handler in case this package is bigger than we thought. Oh, and should I pick up my medical equipment now or use my apartment as a secondary fall back? So many questions!!!

Deep in thought, Mr. Marius looks from Ailith to the two Jedi. ”Corvus? Kael? Are either of you Engineers or Mechanics? If not, perhaps you’d like to keep Ailith company while she digs up what she can on this ‘Switch’ person? At the very least, I’d envy the chance to stretch your legs. Is anyone else an Engineer or Mechanic? How about you Mr.?” Mr. Marius says as he smiles and steps in front of the human male cleaning his blaster rifle. I’m looking at you Rogen.

I’d like a couple of prepared, Mr. Marius grins in Gareth’s direction, “exits in case the negotiations do not go as well as I hope.”

Mr. Marius looks at Corvus and Kael. “On my home world, the only Jedi I had ever heard of were nothing more than alternative healers who ran their own hospice, mostly for the poor. I happen to know that they were also quite valued behind the scenes as mediators to various secret and/or sensitive negotiations. Have either of you received training as either a healer or, better yet, mediator?”

You can take 10 on Treat Injury checks.

Assuming Gareth doesn't mind me treating his Injury... I take 10 on the Treat Injury (since we are out of combat and in a reasonably safe place). 10 +9 = 19, so Gareth gain back hit points equal to your level +4. I believe that brings the party up to full or pretty close.

I look at Ansic and bite out, "I am not a doctor."

After the briefest of moments, I seem to get a hold myself. "Sorry, my parents had wanted me to be one... and... things did not work out. I guess I still have some issues with my past. If you need someone to administer first aid like a field medic or paramedic, I guess I could do that... So long as we're clear that I'm not a doctor."

After another brief hesitation, he nods at Ansic with an apology on his face and then steps into the refresher to clean up.

Echoing out of the refresher his voice continues, "Ansic, you sound like you were a sergeant maybe? Gareth, you said you were some sort of demolitions expert? HK-22 said he was Freelance Operations? I’m sorry, as I do not know what that means.”

Mr. Marius steps out of the refresher. His eyes stop on Kael for a brief moment before moving on to the Twi’lek. “Does information broker include training as a diplomat or negotiator? How about everyone else?”

If I am unable to take 10, 1d20 (1) +9 = 10. I failed and used up the Medpac in the process. If this is the case, I'll see if someone wants to donate another Medpac to the cause.

Spoiler:

My internal dialogue... Bloody hell... I haven't even gotten them all stitched back together and they're already looking for another fight. What is with these people? They're going to get themselves killed... Greasy gophers guts, they're going to get Maya and me killed!

GM Mordulin wrote:
Maya smiles and breathes a sigh of relief at hearing that everyone is willing to help her. "Thank you all. I was not made aware of what the cargo was or even where on this station it is. I believe the cargo will be safe for now if you want to hold up till tomorrow though I can't guarantee it. I was told when I arrive here to get in contact with an information broker named Switch in deep storage bay V14 and that he would sell me the location of the cargo. I have a credstick with 1000 credits on it for him and a datapad with directions to deep storage bay V14 on them I can give you. While you are procurring the cargo I will be trying to get a hold of one of my contacts who will provide us with transportation to Alderaan. Please contact me via comlink once you have secured the cargo." Maya hands the datapad and credstick to Mr. Marius. "If you can talk Switch down on his price for the information feel free to keep the extra credits as my thanks for saving me."

Briefly Mr. Marius blushes at the honor bestowed him while he clumsily juggles the datapad, credstick, and medpac before getting two of the three secreted into his pockets. ”Um, thank you Maya. We will do our best.”

Turning to everyone else, "Sounds like we’re on the move again… So long as no one is injured enough to require a med kit or surgery kit..." he says while looking at Gareth. “Let me just patch up Gareth and we can go forth on Maya’s next mission.”
"I'd like to suggest my own quarters as the next place to hole up. I’m fresh off a transport as of yesterday, so it’s not likely anyone would identified me in my humble opinion. My place is a little bit bigger than this, it certainly has more furniture, and… I would like a chance to retrieve my possessions, including a family heirloom I'd like to recover along with an old med kit and surgery kit that might prove useful should you continue to need me."

Spoiler:

The sudden realization strikes him silent. I think they really do need me.

As the wise ol’ master Homer says, DOH!!! You are quite correct… Gareth took the hit (6 damage). So since I exited the refresher, can we change all instances of me saying ‘Gran’ to ‘other male human’ and all instances of ‘Ansic’ to ‘Gareth’? It should look like this:

Mr. Marius steps from the refresher. The hair around his face is dark with moisture and clinging to his head, though his face is dry. While his jacket is missing, he’s wearing a rather elegant almost extravagant shirt reminiscent of a colonial time period on some back water world. He wears no weapon or holster save a rather small knife, obviously lacking in vibro-tech. On his wrist is the only piece of technology worn, a rather expensive looking com-link. He looks each of you over from feet to eyes, his face pale and his lips suggesting a smile though his eyes reflect weariness.

“Thank you for assisting Maya and me in our escape. Are any of you injured? It’s the least I could do.” Looking pointedly at the other male human, “Does anyone have a med pac or med kit?”

Now that it's vacant, I'm going to duck into the refresher.

Spoiler:

Once inside and the door safely locked behind me, I'll clean up after Maya and then clean myself up (in case I got blood on myself).

GM Mordulin wrote:

Ailith: I'd say a Perception DC 15 and a Treat Injury DC 15 check would make his deception less believable (each successful check would add 5 to your Will Defense as his lie would move from Moderate to Difficult or Incredible for you) since you were in the casino when he healed Maya. Otherwise you were too distracted to notice the healing or how badly injured she was.

I suppose I can and will have to live with how things went this time... And that's fine... However, I'd like to get a better feel on how Deception works for the next time(s) I try it.

Facts that Ailith has:
0. I'm just going to assume Ailith saw everything despite me being bent over the NPC on the ground, possibly from across the room, with me putting a table of patrons between the door and me (and possibly her).
1. Maya is in bloody clothing.
2. The existance of the second wind ability that all player characters can use. If I was only going to take 1 point of damage, that indicates the NPC had a maximum of 3 points of damage. Easily fixed with a second wind ability.
3. There was no med pack or med kit used.
4. We were on the ground for less than a full round action.

5? Maya was stumbling onto the Promenade, clutching her midsection as though injured. Something Ailith may not have seen being in the Credit Chip the entire time... And might be partially explain by me pulling Maya into the Credit Chip.
6? Force powers do not seem to require verbal, material, or somatic components to my knowledge.

My lie was:
"... after she caught her second wind she seems mostly fine. I do not believe all the blood was hers. Please do not ask her about it, as I fear it may have belonged to one or more fallen comrades."

I'd say this is in par with the description and examples for a Simple deception and had even added a +5 modifier for simple to my check for that.

Even if Ailith makes both checks I still can't see this lie is as hard to believe as the examples for a Moderate deception...
1. A thief convincing a suspicious guard that he's not a thief.
2. Disguising my human self as a Twilek or Hutt.
3. Creating a false ID good enough to pass visual screening by an a trained tech.

I certainly cannot see it suddenly escalating to the point of a Difficult deception...
1. Impersonating an Imperial Officer well enough to give Storm Troopers orders.
2. Creating false official documents good enough to pass electronic screening.

Let alone... and Incredible deception like:
1. Impersonating Han Solo enough to convince Lando Calrissian.

My concern here is something I would consider a Simple deception, could suddenly be escalated to an Incredible deception on par with that last example so quickly... and it definitely makes me feel like Deception is a worthless skill to have picked.

I think it will be best however to put all the future deceptions in a spoiler from now on and let you decide the difficulty from now on, before it gets release into the wild.

Anyways... That's my thoughts on the subject.

GM Mordulin wrote:

Once inside Maya's safe house she exhales a sigh of relief. "Okay, we should be safe here for a time. The Imperials tend to ignore this area and any of the problems that may occur here. Please make yourselves as comfortable as possible while I change out of this bloody jumpsuit." The "apartment" you are in is little more than a 25 square meter room with an attached refresher. The only furnishing is a small bed in one corner. Maya grabs a bag from the bed and moves into the refresher to change.

I follow, right on Maya's heels with my hands in my pockets... right up to the refresher, which I step beside.

Spoiler:

What to do? What to do? She promised a reward... And she's not bad looking under the greasy coveralls... What to do?
Why did all these mercenaries and Jedi have to follow us? Maybe I shouldn't have stopped to heal her? That Kael fellow has already noticed? Should I try explaining it away or should I just pretend nothing happened? Would they believe me if I...

I check to make sure the refresher door is closed and then quietly say with my voice a near whisper towards the end, "You are right Kael, after she caught her second wind she seems mostly fine. I do not believe all the blood was hers. Please do not ask her about it, as I fear it may have belonged to one or more fallen comrades."

Deception check (Simple) 1d20 (8) +7 +5 = 20. I believe this compares to your Will Defense(s)?

GM Mordulin wrote:
Okay, first combat almost over. I'm sorry for the delays, real life kicked in with some busy but hopefully good news(new job fingers crossed). I think I may try a group initiative for the next encounter. What do you guys think?

I've seen alot of different ways to run combats in 3.5... Including:

1. The average party initiative...
2. Each character takes a turn rolling initiative for the party (complete with their special kickers) and then the party just goes around the table (or alphabetically or combined with #3 for PbP). Works well for a party-versus-one-opponent situation.
3. No rolling initiative. Everyone is considered taking 10, re-rollers that have to take the second roll add +2, re-rollers that choose between the first and second roll add +5, ties go to highest initiative modifier, further ties go to characters with the skill focus feat, and then highest dex, further ties go to the person with the longest character background <no joke>. Works well for no-party situations (where the party members are totally split up, ex. each member is at a different station of a single ship) and unable to aid one another or compete for goals.
4. Pilots of different ships rolling initiative like we just did, then the occupants of the ship using #3.
5. Running combat as we just did.

I know it's alot of work but I will always vote for #5... It's the most fair to players as it allows them to aid one another, ready and hold actions, and compete for goals... Ex. Seeing who killed the most droids or was the first to a computer terminal.

(Please mark off the Force Point or take 1 damage and mark off the Destiny Point. For the future, you can wait till I tell you how much damage you would take before you spend the Force Point.)

The wounded woman looks to Marius as her open wounds close and the pain flees from her eyes. "Thank you doc! It looks like there is an exit to the east side of the building, it probably leads to an alley. I just saw someone flee that way so hopefully its safe."

I'll mark off one Force Point and one Destiny Point. I was pretty committed to getting her fully ambulatory without... well, you know.

"You can call me Marius... Just plain ol' Mr. Marius." Hopeful but brief pause for her name.

"Okay, time to go. Up and at 'em," I say while assisting her back to her feet...

As I get her name and assist her back to her feet, I'm going to look her over very closely. What's she look like again? Is she physical appealing under the gore and grime? Does she carry herself like someone used to manual labor or like a noble? What gear does she have? Mostly though, I'm interested in how attractive she is underneither everything else.

Perception check is 1d20 (11) + 9 = 20.

Somehow ending up with her hand again, so I begin dragging/leading her to that exit on the east side of the building. "Let's get out of here."

While on the move, I'll try to get a good look outside.

She heals (her character level x3). I take half of the damage healed as damage to me. Er, wow. If she's 7th level character, this just popped my damage threshold and moved me one step on the condition chart. If she's 12th level or higher, I may have just killed myself.

Lols, I like this Force Power. I think I will be taking 10 outside of combat/initiative for when I use it not just because it would reduce the healing to x2, but because it sorta feels like meditative controlled healing that is less likely to KILL me.

If I would have made a DC 25 (which I can actually do)... And she were a 5th level character, this would have popped my damage threshold. If she were a 9th level or higher character, I would have just killed myself.

I notice that in the Force Power it says I can use a Force Point to ignore the damage... Do I have to state this before or after healing her? If I have to state it before... I'm using a force point now. I'd like to survive my first encounter please.

Also on the Force Power it mentions using a Destiny Point to move her on the condition track. I know she's wounded... And I am checking her out. If she's more than one step down on the condition chart... I suppose I will burn the Destiny Point too.

After all... if there isn't another exit, I'm towing her out the front.

If I take 4 or more hit points damage from healing her (or by the time my action goes off), and have a Swift Action left, I will also Second Wind at the end of my turn.

Now why would a couple of Imperial... Who outranks the storm troopers again?... Hmmm...
Anyways, why would they be playing secret police?
Hmmm... Cowardice or curiousity? Leave or stay... Leave... Or stay...
I'll head for the store, get a description, causually move to the back (really just checking for places to grab cover and an exit like a back door or ladder to the roof), then find a nice place to shop where I can keep an eye on the two undercover Imperials.

A couple of random rolls... 15, 9.

I'd like to make a knowledge(tactics) check if I can to try and figure out a good positions where I can keep an eye on them and have some cover if things go bad.

1d20+5 Knowledge(tactics)

That's exactly what I was wanting to do. Darn! Knowledge (Tactics) is not a class skill.

I'm at B-3. Perception 1d20 (13) + 9 = 22

Spoiler:

When I notice the two men scanning the crowd, I discretely (Deception 1d20 (4) + 7 = 11) watch them for a reaction as they scan the Imperial stormtroopers (Perception 1d20 (10) + 9 = 19).

Is there any arrival/departure times being displayed anywhere?

I'm going to begin moving to E3 moving via D5. As I come and go from D5, I want to check the doors to the north and south... Do I see any more of these men or Imperial stormtroopers past either of the doors? My character trying to discretely look for clear exits to flee down.

Deception 1d20 (4) + 7 = 11
Perception 1d20 (10) + 9 = 19

HUZZAH!!!

This is a great map you found. Brentaal IV (or just Brentaal) can be found at the intersection of the Perlemian Trade Route and the Hydian Way. It is in the Core worlds and is fairly close to Alderaan.

I much prefer the PDF of all three pages. The second page has all the close up sections (where losts of systems are practically on top of each other) and an index... And best of all it's searchable. =)

Hey, I was trying to get an idea of Brentaal IV was... For some reason it wasn't clicking even with descriptions like, "It sat at the strategic intersection of the Perlemian Trade Route and the Hydian Way."

So... I went looking for a map. Is there a better one than the searchable PDf found at: http://www.xs4all.nl/~wrvh/galaxymap/

Spoiler:

For my background I was wanting to make a brief visit to the Nuns of G'aav'aaar'oon... Who will leave quite the impression on my character and began his journey in learning about the Force. Unfortuantely, the best I can place them is the Vodilux Star Cluster which I can't find on any map or with any google search. Can we just say it's within a short distance of the Brentaal System, say 1-2 hops?

Corrected and added. Backstory coming... I think it will include a brief visit to the Nuns of G'aav'aar'oon at the bequest of his parents.

Hey everyone, just giving you all a head's up that I am still around. I'm a bit busy with work so it won't be till Friday that I'll be able to have the time to finish approving characters. Sorry for the delays everyone.

Okay, here is my character. I know I still have gold to spend and was thinking about a chest with a bunch of legs sticking out of the bottom of it to carry around my medical supplies.
