I am curious how the elemental didn't get to act when it was summoned, but I suppose I don't understand this version of rules we're using anyway.

That is a radically different read of the rules than I've ever heard. If you cannot crit something, you cannot apply crit feat dependent effects. The only things which work that way are bonus damage from burst weapons.

Magda uses a light spell, but once she gets to seeing a lit room at the end, she will turn it off and cast invisibility on herself.
