"It's nice to meet you, Mister Vanderhuge. I am Misaki Hamamoto, originally from Minkai, in Tian Xia. It will be nice to work with Gibbs again. I haven't seen him since we visited Korvosa together, and met those cute little dragons, and helped the nice lady who runs the marketplace there."

A small, grey and black songbird sitting on her shoulder suddenly lets out a squawk: "ISSLES!!!"

"Oh yes, and this is Whistles. He's my... umm... spirit guide? Or something?"

Chosen One paladin archetype from Familiar Folio. Basically, she's a paladin who gets a familiar instead of the typical mount or bonded weapon. Misaki can best be described as a cross between a Disney princess and an anime girl.

Here's the other twist: They're both outsiders. Misaki is an aasimar, and Whistles is an archon. He used to be a thrush familiar, and he usually still looks that way, but I got Improved Familiar at level 7.

Yeah, that was Misaki's 3rd time fighting ghouls, and her first time NOT being paralyzed by them. Much smoother than usual for her.

Well that was an easy final fight. For subtier 3-4, you'd think he'd have more HP. But I know a lot of the adventures back then were pretty easy.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait!! Bring gift for ghoul, King Hurley has!"

Assuming Misaki lets King Hurley go first, he'll hurl a flurry of snowballs at the trio of undead.

"Shizuru, help me smite down this foul monster! Misaki asks her goddess, and a flash of otherworldly light surrounds her momentarily. swift action smite vs leader, so my AC is 5 higher vs him, but not the skeletons

She then rushes forward with her katana in both hands to attack the leader and bottleneck the room, so the enemies can't attack her allies.

Does the pedestal with the rock on it count as difficult terrain or something? I'd charge the leader if it wasn't there, but I suspect I can't with that thing in the way.

"I gave you a chance at surrender, but if you refuse, then it has to be this way."

Misaki advances deeper into the crypt double move, and wields her katana threateningly in both hands.

"Surrender!" she orders.

"Leave Vim alone!"

Misaki strikes at red with her katana.

In the mean time, Whistles flies up to King Hurley, and casts Guidance on him.

Misaki swings her katana at the one in blue.

And as a move action, she'll use Detect Evil on the one in purple, to see if he has a strong enough evil aura to be worth using one of her limited smites per day.

Misaki decides that Vim seems more fragile than Gibbs and decides to attack his attacker to defend Vim first.

Misaki approaches the door in the northwest area. Whistles casts Guidance on her, then backs off.

Misaki pulls out her wand of Cure Light Wounds and touches herself with it.

Cure Light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Does anyone else need healing?"

Misaki 5 ft steps up to the creature and slices at it again with her katana.

"Be gone, foul beast!"

Misaki wouldn't bother with Lay on Hands for just 8 HP of damage.

It looks like Vim nailed it with dungeoneering. I was just assuming he shared that info with the rest of us, so I peeked at the spoiler.

Whistles casts Guidance on Misaki, then stays behind as she rushes up to swing her katana at the thing.

This will provoke an AOO, given its reach. If it hits and does significant damage, assume Misaki would Lay on Hands herself this turn, before it gets a chance to full attack her, but I'll save that roll until after I see if it's necessary.

Misaki is happy to stay up front, katana drawn. She has darkvision.

Whistles will cast Guidance on Misaki, then retreat to the middle of the pack. He doesn't like being on the front line.

Misaki starts turning the tumblers to line up the symbols.

"Should I do them in any particular order? I guess I can start with the bottom one if it doesn't matter."

She'll follow directions from the others. Whistles will cast Guidance on her and anyone else who is helping.

Is there any reason I can't take 20 on the strength check? It'll get done eventually, even if it takes a little while.

"Oh, that's terrible! We need to escort these people back to the surface, and make sure they get out safely. Then, we can continue and find this Dalirio person."

As long as he leaves his prisoners behind, Misaki won't pursue. She'll be more concerned with checking on them. How many prisoners are there, and what kind? Humans?

"Hey! That hurt!"

Misaki removes a hand from her katana to Lay on Hands herself, then re-grips the weapon with both hands.

Lay on Hands: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) + 6 = 16
Greater Mercy for an extra d6 when not using a Mercy, and Fey Foundling for an extra +2 per die whenever I'm magically healed. And this is why I don't have Power Attack yet.

Seeing an opening, Whistles flies up and casts Guidance on Misaki, who then steps forward to attack the last enemy.

I wish Misaki was doing more damage per hit, but I designed her to tank first, damage second, so she won't get Power Attack until next level.

Whistles casts Guidance, and flies up to touch Vim with it.

"Ouch! These guys are trying to prick me to death!"

When Misaki drops the green one, she 5 ft steps into his spot, to bottleneck the others from entering and get out of the flank she was in.

Would have done that sooner, if I'd known he'd dropped.

"Oh my!"

Misaki swings her katana at the green one.

"Someone's coming from that tunnel" Misaki tells the others, raising her katana and moving to block whoever's coming from getting to the others.

Whistles casts Guidance on her and flies off her shoulder to stay away from the fight.

Having darkvision herself, Misaki forgets that the darkness is an issue for others.

Heh. I honestly didn't remember that. Was just guessing. And I didn't remember what the clues represent, either.

"Oh, I see. This one looks like the roads, and the other two represent the shapes of the towers around those landmarks. So do we just look for a building right in the center of the triangle made by those 3?"

Misaki does as the bird instructs, using her wand of Cure Light Wounds on the "I" on the statue.

"Holy symbol?"

Misaki looks at Vim in confusion, then looks at Whistles.

Misaki tries whistling the tune that opened the other one.

We head back to the prison and examine the "I" on the statue.

Despite having GMed this adventure before, I really don't remember these papers and what they're for, so anything I say is just a guess. It's been way too long since I've looked at this one.

"I guess I can help. I just don't feel right damaging things. Who owns this property?"

Misaki won't have Power Attack until next level, so hopefully 1d8+5 will do it.

Misaki hits it with her katana.

Misaki and Whistles examine the area around the "I" closely.

Ironically, Whistles the song thrush just watches you all as if you're insane, and doesn't utter a chirp.

Can we read the musical notes without a trained perform skill? I have good charisma, so I could try a perform check untrained to whistle it.

So did you find anything in the records, Gibbs?"

"Wait. You mentioned 6 locations, which Gibbs has marked on the map, but what the three in the paintings again? Maybe we should only focus on those."

I really don't remember the details of this, but I think this will get us going in the right direction.

"Anyone have any other suggestions?"

I think I vaguely remember how this goes, from having GMed it 4 years ago, but I'm not exactly sure. Keeping my mouth shut to let the others figure it out.

"So how many of those secrets do you remember, and can share with us? If they're using those hidden tunnels, we'll probably need to do the same to stop them."

Misaki declares a smite against the cleric as a swift action, loads her sling, and fires it.

Not seeing how to get up to the walkway, Misaki pulls out her sling.

Misaki looks up at the cleric and uses Detect Evil on her as a move action.

Figures I'd get a natural 20 on my best saving throw, but miss my attack.
