Also thanks for the Roguelike link, I've for some reason never heard that term even though I like Diablo, XCOM and FTL.

Prepare for enough Rogue-Likes to choke a Valkyrie. Head to RogueBasin

Sorry, that wasn't a total hyjack. The idea of a system made for PbP excites me. I really look forward to seeing your work.

I'm sure the Amulet of Yendor is not at the bottom of every game. However, I am curious about the depth and breadth that this PbP game has. Count me in.

I am gonna peace out. It's like a Monty Python skit in these threads. Lol!! I do wish you all luck and lots of loot.

Ok I rolled way too many d6s but I used them in rolled order to replace 1s.
Set 2 wins with:
5,5,2:12
6,6,3:15
6,6,6:18
6,5,4:15
5,3,3:11
5,4,3:12

Incoming character.

I have a Drunken Brute concept that never saw the light of day. However, I'll read the campaign notes to see if he'll fit. No matter his outcome, expect a character from me.

Btw, it 's very generous of you to give us three sets of rolls. Thank you.

Ouch! Can I get a refund on my six minutes?
But seriously, cool. Have a good time.

I am interested a will give you a more tangible concept tonight. (Late. I have class.)
He will be a cleric and probably older (middle age). I tend to make characters with baggage. None related to me!!!!! (wink) So if you are utilizing traits, He will have a drawback as well. (I guess I'll take the extra trait that goes along with it!sheesh. Twist my arm. )I made drawbacks for characters even before there were traits. (God I love being a loser!)

Who is Melodak?
I would love to play a female role but Melodak sounds interesting too. I do not see him/her on the character list.

While I am not happy about potentially losing a PFS player, I consider how many would leave if he continues his ways. bad players can make others leave. Hopefully he learns how to play with others and changes his RP style, if not I can only do so much.

Jason is correct about this. Since I am a player who has not returned to play a PFS game due to a few bad players. (Well, time constraints are the biggest issue, but my fear of running into another nightmare group keeps me from going when I do have free time.) I doubt they are there still but, Man! That game was a nightmare!

I was at last years ComicCon and played PFS all day on Saturday. Was a great time. I will be attending this years as well. I look forward to more adventures. Tsukar and Keelee will be dusted off.

This may sound off topic but it is most definitely not.

More Cowbell!

Alrighty, I work at a boys shelter and have done some games with the boys in my house. Many of them love it. Boys that think of themselves as thugs have taken to this alternate self very well. Many have done selfless and thoughtful things. Many have played their character.
However, there are times that their baser instincts show. I, as a DM, will try to steer them in a productive and open ended direction, but I also don't want to deprive them of making the wrong decision and seeing the consequences.(Which is a major reason I want to do this. I want them to make decisions and see a somewhat real outcome in a safe environment.) But when they decide to try and take over the whole town that they are supposed to help, I can't help but wonder where I am going wrong as a DM.
If I make the adventure a track that the boys cannot deviate from, it will deprive them of what I am after. If I let them wreak havoc and their characters are thrown in jail for life, or executed for their crimes, it discourages the fun of the game and they lose all the hard work they put into their characters. I've had a few boys stop playing because they did kill people and take over a mining town. Their characters were hunted down by NPCs far better than them, which I thought was fairly realistic. Now they donot want to roll up another character.

Any advice for a fairly new DM in this situation?

Currently, I'm going to give the boys a taste of Pathfinder Society games with The Master of the Fallen Fortress game. The pregen characters will make it easy for them to play and they are on a track they cannot deviate from.
We'll see how they do.

And this is just a little friendly sarcasm--one thing that I've learned in four years of organized play is math is not obvious to many...

/em feigns shock and horror.

Gasp! A player or, gods don't make me say it, a DM, fudging numbers!?!?!?!? May these scalawags always find their action dies single digit side up!

;D

Thank you Doug, for cementing that rule.

However,

I read this and still came away confused. All it says it the player receives a set amount of gold. It's open for some interpretation. It does not say "and that is maximum they can take away from the scenario." nor does it say what you just said, which is not too wordy and explains the rationale.
On top of that, why say how many gold pieces they found on a body? If there are four pcs, who obviously can do math, that pretty much feels like a rip-off. Why not just say "you found gold on the body and will split it once you get to the bottom of the case." (which os what I'll do in my scenarios from now on.) The players know they found some gold but don't know how much it is, so there is no disappointment. When you are told you find 60 gold in a 4 man but only get 10 gold at the end, how would you feel. (I don't mean you Doug, I mean you as in to everyone.)
All of us understand the rationale, but this is an adventure and we need to suspend disbelief. Giving the PCs a hard number that is not really hard, reveals the man behind the curtain.

It's included in the rewards for whatever section it's found in and is also included in the max gold on the chronicle sheet.

Yeah I'm trying to wrap my head around the loot thing. I understand the items have to be bought. However, Gold found is just gold found and it is split up already and dispersed as rewards at the end of an act?

So what ever you are rewarded is the max you can have for and act or a scenario? Loot gotten through theft, or being the only one to find it and keeping it secret, cannot be added to the total?

If there is a post about this, can you point me in the right direction? because I have been searching for this subject.

Thank you Yoda. You have answered my questions fully.
I will announce my intentions to the gang and give them time to become PFS members.
I've been reading the DMG, DMGII, Pathfinder Chronicles campaign Setting and the Guide to PFS play. Time to buy a scenario and get rolling.

I want to DM some games for my group. They have been nice and DMd a ton. It's about time I try my hand at the DM role.
We have been using the PF ruleset since A2. I looked at the PF Society and was intrigued by it's concept. I think some of my players would like to participate in this game.

Questions:

1: Are the scenarios ok for me as a beginner DM?

2: Do all the players have to "Participate" in the PFS and submit to it? (Some of my players may not be so inclined) I still may make them members but they will not contribute.

3: If I do, do this, will starting off in "Silent Tide" keep my player from being able to submit? In other words, should I start with the first scenario of this season or of last season?

4: I must use the 3.5 ruleset until notified, right?

Thank you for your answers.

Ya all forgot another pathfinder. sheesh! Which is a pretty cool one by the way.
I rather like Pathfinder as a name. Even if the name was "Poop in a bucket," that does not change what a decent product it is. At least the name invokes a good and perhaps adventurous image. If it is a great product it may even become synonymous with gaming. I mean, look at Kleenex. That's a pretty dumb sounding and looking name, yet most people refer to tissue paper as kleenex.
I suggest a nice big dose of "get over it."
What would you have it be, "darth_borehd's big adventure?"

Edit: I apologize for those last lines.I'm in a pissy mood.
