He wipes a bit of nightmare goo from his face as the creature before Ferabras explodes.. and is caughht unawares as the hound creature levels its stare at him!
Mikail cries out as wounds open across his body, but he still charges in, poking out with his rapier!
Mikail nods as the girls take over the task of studying the book. "I will do what I can to discover what news we can, but I do need to go shopping before we finish this off. I have a few scrolls I would like to buy!" Turning to Ferabras, the kitsune looks worried. "What are you going to do? I don't like leaving you behind.. gods only know what trouble you will find without me to keep you on the straight and narrow!!" He looks anxious for a moment, before a grin peeps out, exposing the truth of his jest. "I will check in with you once a day, and again if I find anything important. Just so I know that you are behaving yourself!"
Mikail steps forward, furry shoulders hunched and tail sagging. "We were too late.. again. And this girls father paid the price. I, for one, am getting tired of being two steps behind this mess. We brought the book and the girl here, hoping that you can help the girl and set us on a better path to get ahead of these creatures!
Mikail watches the scene play out before him, morosely thinking of his own parents.. long dead and far out of reach from any help like this. He sniffles once or twice, and turns away unable to watch. His shoulders start to heave once.. maybe twice.. before he takes a shuddering breath and lets it out slowly. He pauses for a moment, you see his right arm reach upwards and his head bow for a moment towards his paw. But when he returns to the group, his fur is dry and his eyes clear. "We will see her taken care of.." he whispers to no one as he steps forward. "I don't know what this thing is, but I know that I can't wait to sink my rapier into it. Lets get moving! To the Sanctuary first??"
Mikail pieces everything together, walking his companions through the fight then shakes his head as he reaches the finale. "Its sad.. he tried to defend himself before fleeing, and still didn't have a chance. We need to finish this nightmare.. literally." He looks up as Zora suggests speaking with the body. "It can't hurt, I guess. But we need to figure out what we are going to do with this book too.."
Looking up and noticing the women, Mikail waves them over. "You are the "Aunties"? You should be here as well.. Avigail should't be left alone right now.." He pats herr back with one furry paw before returning to the team. "Lets get upstairs and see what happened there. We can read.. whatever you want.. later." He finishes the statement with a smirk, but also an slight nod towards the child in the room..
Mikail changes into his furry shape and approaches the poor girl outside. "We will make sure this is taken care of! I'm sorry for your loss.. dead or missing parents seems all too common anymore.." His voice trails off sadly, his tail swishing in agitation. Moving into the store, he looks between the bodies of his taller companions and gasps as the book changes and then returns to its hidden form!
Mikail drops to the ground, woozy and beaten.. his wounds still oozing blood. He accepts a hand up from Ferabras, clenching tightly as his head spins for a minute. Luckily, he manages to stay vertical. "Ye.. Yes. I think I'm Ok.." He turns to Zora, offering his wand. "It's brand new.. thankfully! I would be glad of your help!" He bows his head as the holy woman begins tapping him with the wand.
As the golden glow fades away leaving his fur matted and mussed with clotting blood, he turns very unkind eyes upon the innkeep. "I've about had enough of you. We will follow up on the information that you have now given us, but be assured that the town magistrate will know of the protection that you gave Barvasi, and the lives that have been lost because of your selfishness. You are a fool.. but your mistakes have made you dangerous." With a "Harumph!! Mikail stomps out of the inn. However, rather than following up on the new leads, he heads first to the nearest well to begin splashing the blood from his fur. After several long minutes, the Kitsune rejoins his friends. His fur bristles and sticks out a weird angles, but his temper is now under control. Falling in step with the rest of the group, he mournfully ponders aloud "How can evil like that exist?? How can people be so innately evil that they choose to allow something like that to happen?? I am beginning to think that the fools that stand by and allow these cults to run are worse than the cults themselves.. at least they don't try to rationalize their actions.."
Mikail glares dourly at the doorman, and follows Garret as he accosts Adnaan. "This blood is on your hands, not ours for failing to help us, or even stand up for yourself!" With a flick of his thumb, he points towards Karnhia. "She warned you that death was coming.. and you chose the wrong side." Suddenly, somehting catches his eye.. he turns his head just in time to see a large, red, slimy, rope of blood clot fly through the air and slam into him with a wet SPLAT! With an "OOF!!!" he exhales as the thing wraps around him and begins to squeeze!
As the creature tries to invade his head, he manages to fight off the headache and pressure, but isn't so lucky in fighting of the physical tendrils wrapping around him!
Mikail holds his peace through the conversation with the mystic and her ghost, silently nibbling on a pastry and drinking his tea. With a bow of gratitude, he follows the rest of the team out the door and into the night market. As the fire juggler approaches, he turns on his smile and follows Ferabras. "Yes, 1000 gold is way too much for such as us, poor travelers that we are. We are helping to clean up your city, but we finance ourselves! Shouldn't the returns on a nights safe sleep, an end to this problem, and all of Barvosi's gang locked up be worth your help?? If if that is not enough, we can take you to the magistrate and vouch for you. I am sure that we could convince him to not only be generous in rewarding such selfless service as yours, but he could perhaps use his contacts in not only moving you someplace else, but could facilitate employment and funds that should be needed!"
Now that the cultists have run for the hills, Mikail quickly moves through the house, picking up anything that seems important or expensive and tossing it into his handy haversack. Back at the Magistrate's office, he plops the book down on a desk and tells the man. "Of course you can count on us to finish the case! Here is a list of names that we may all find interesting. You in the name of civil peace, and us in the name of possible associates. This note here also insinuates that Barvasi may return looking for his gold, but now that we have it, there is no telling. I say we start with the key and Madame Carrington. A key that opens a spirit door to another dimension seems right up her alley!"
"Well, we left most of them alive. The ones that tried to fight we defended ourselves, and the ones that chose not to were allowed to live. As for the ones below, well, we saved you but that was about all we could manage once the water started rushing in. And how are you NOT to blame for these new drugs floating around? Every one of our investigations have lead us straight to you."
Mikail looks on in wonder as Ferabras takes down the giant spider, but follows closely as the others run for the higher ground. as the cult leader gets tossed to the ground and starts groaning, mikail takes a sip from his waterskin. He looks to the others and shrugs before dumping the rest over her head, smiling as she spits and sputters. "So, we understand that you are to blame for some of the recent troubles around here. Lets talk about that for a moment.."
As the mob disperses, Mikail gets a very significant sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as the spider above begins to animate. It flexes its legs.. and Mikhail feels his own legs get a little watery as he looks over to Ferabras. "What the ever loving heck is with these damn cultists and their inanimate objects animating??!!" he calls out, vividly recalling a ladder that wasn't a ladder that tried to eat him in the last dungeon he crawled through.
Mikail also tries to dive between the spiders legs, but cant seem to make it on the first attempt. Gathering himself for another attempt, he fakes left, darts right, and tumbles right under the beast. Reaching his feet, he starts waving his rapier about, trying to draw the creature so that Farebras can get in a good swing.
"Well, of COURSE it is the lift down.." Mikail bursts out, giving the men his best evil Glare. "She was being facetious. Now, time is wasting, and you are in our way here.." With that, he attempts to push his way through to the lift. If he makes it, he stands beside the open cage door and gestures deferentially. "My Lady?"
Mikail touches the statues hands like everyone else does, then passes into the room. Seeing Garret perusing the robes, he gives an exclamation. "Hey! Great Idea, Garret! Maybe with all of this, we can sneak in and see whats going on and get a drop on them before they realize anything!" Suddenly his face falls as he turns towards Ferabras. "So.. I know this isn't exactly going to be easy for you, big guy.. but its not like you are wearing the holy symbol. Playing dress up shouldn't be too bad, right? I mean.. think of it this way; shutting down this cult will help the innocents out there." As he talks, he picks out a robe that looks like it might fit and grabs a sickle before tossing a larger robe towards the big teifling. Almost as an afterthought, he moves over to the crates and peers inside.
Mikail quails against the wall of the tunnel as the giant spiders come into view.. before someone jogs his elbow and reminds him of the repellent! He quickly slathers it on and gives a heavy sigh of relief as the spiders finally turn away. Reaching the end of the tunnel, he leans against the wall as the team works out a battle plan.
"I agree.. and most of this is evidence that we need to take to the authorities anyway. Every bit of this is another nail in the coffin of whoever really is behind all of this, and we need to cover ourselves as much as we can so no one turns against us when the bodies begin to stack up.." Mikail tosses in, shaking his head in disgust. "That secret passage seems to be the next obvious route.. should we do that before or after reporting in?"
Mikail pauses as Ferabras offers him the antitoxin, and gives the big man a huge smile.. "Well, its not like I don't try to avoid it.." he says, taking the vial and slugging it back. As he approaches the door, he is suddenly stopped as the little dragon darts in front of him, calling out about the door. Eyes wide, he looks down and sees what the dragons sharper eyes were able to spot. "Geez!! Thanks!! You just saved my bacon!"
Mikail thanks the little dragon for pointing out the door, then goes through Greeley's possessions. "If no one else can read these scrolls, I can keep them and try to cast them as we need them." he says to the group. He then holds up the vermin repellent, sickle, and amulet up to the rest of the group. [b]"Would anyone care to use these?" Once all the gear is sorted out, Mikail moves through the door the dragon pointed out and carefully inspects the next door for anything untoward.
Mikail ties up the other thugs while Ferabras and Zora question the leader of the group. While securing them, he carefully rifles through their pockets and secures anything of note.
Upon hearing of the next phase of their mission, Mikail looks up with a worried expression at Ferabras. "Tunnels?? More freaking tunnels?? And SPIDERS?!?!" His head droops and he shakes it in melencholy. "What I wouldn't give for just a regular old stand up fight under the bright light of day.. there's not going to be any ladders jumping out and trying to eat me, is there??" Looking over to the others at their obviously confused expressions and tries to explain. "Our last time in tunnels, I tried to climb a ladder and it turned out to be a mimic.. scared me pretty badly.." he shuffles his feet and kicks at an imaginary rock.
Mikail suddenly catches up to the group at the top of the stairs, chest heaving and panting as he tries to catch his breath. "That took WAY too long!!!" he gasps. "I couldn't just leave those addicts to scamper off and die in some alley, but it took a while to find a temple willing to take them in!! Then I had to find you again.." his voice tapers off as he realizes the situation. He waits for Karnhia to get her spell off before he throws himself into the room, past Garet and Ferabras to tumble past the thugs on either side of the door and come up on the bed, his rapier jumping gladly into his hand.
His rapier jabs out at the man in the corner, coming back bloodied in the tip. Grinning, he steps closer to the wall and readies himself for the retaliation.
Ok guys, s+*% hit the fan in a real way, and I completely ditched you for much longer than what I intended to. For this I really apologize. I still have a few things percolating, but the majority of things are if not resolved then at least on a back burner for right now. I am still going through a few transitions, but I hope that the majority of the insanity is past. I will be striving my utmost to get back to my daily post rates. James: I understand that I have been absent for quite some time as far as the game is concerned. If you feel it necessary to dock me or even drop me from the scenario, I completely understand. Please just let me know how you wish to proceed with this. I will refrain from posting until I hear back from you.
Mikail hangs around at the back of the group, uncharacteristically silent through the exchange, although he too commiserates with the addicts. He is rightfully fired up at the deception, but can't fault the simple addicts, especially seeing as how they were willing to listen to reason. As the water rises, he jumps to his feet and turns for the door, backpedaling only for a moment as the hideous visage peers through the doorway. Quickly, he digs into his pack to pull forth a scroll tube and quickly begins to read.
Suddenly, the party feels extra strength and speed flowing into their limbs and bodies!
I apologize for my lack of posting or slowdown of late. These last two weeks have seen a great many things come up professionally, medically, and now legally. I will catch up and post as best as I can, but while dealing with health issues with the wife, I am also going through a professional transition from a job that I held for over 5 years and back into the medical field, as well as dealing with the legal system after a teacher at my son’s school not only battered him in the classroom multiple times but dragged him through the hallway by his neck. This might be considered a bit of oversharing by some, but I wanted you all to understand and I felt “Life is getting rough” was a bit too vague.
Mikail looks baffled as Karnhia addresses him, completely unsure of what she is speaking of in the foreign language. "I'm not sure what that means, but ok.. if you wish." he puts the scroll back into his pack and turns for Ferabras.
Mikail quickly returns to the group and fades back into view before he fills them in on what he saw, finishing with "So, there isn't anyone there that looks like they may be in charge at all.. just a bunch of addicts. So we are probably going to have to be extra careful with this and not just send them out the door. What was REALLY REALLY weird though is that even though I was invisible, it really felt like someone was watching me!!! Crazy, I know.. but the hair all along my ta.. back stood straight on end! The excitable young man nearly makes a slip and quickly darts his eyes to Ferabras. "So, what do we do? I can use one of my scrolls of Haste before we go in there, but it really looks like there may not even be a fight." |
