--------------------
During her birth, Merida's mother grew very ill and was taken to the church of Milani to give birth under the purview of a healer. Only the high priestess was there at the time, and she did what she could, using divine magic to keep them stable. As such, Merida was born infused with such energy.

From this point Merdia's mother, despite being a metropolitan, developed a disorganized need to save. She therefore began taking in strays: dogs, cats, half-orcs. So with two younger half-orc brothers, and to human older sisters, Merdia's family's city-life quickly became quite...disorganized.

This life was brought into question by the lawmakers of the city, and soon they had taxes, fines, and the like levvied against them in droves. When their father left to confront such charges, he lost his temper and attacked an official; an act punishable by death.

The lost of their father meant the end of Merida's family's life in the city. The church which had shown them such kindness helped them get settled as best they could with a nearby tribe in the wilderness with whom they had a report.

Whilst among the tribe, Merida was young enough to undergo initiation during which she was trained to wield a falchion and fight like one of the tribesmen. As time went on, Merida's mother caught the eye of the tribe's medicineman. Well into that relationship, however, Merida caught the man with another woman and was outraged.

Thinking only of her mother's heart, and nothing for the tribe as a whole, Merida outed the leader in public fashion, destroying his reputation as a man of faith.

The leader was ostricized as a heretic, but no one could look at Merida the same way again either, because his successor was still a young man, too inexperienced to lead the clan spiritually. So rather than subject her family to yet another trial, Merida began her dream of adventure a few years earlier than she'd hoped, signing on as a Silver Crusader in the very town from whence she was once spat.
