Female Helmet Cat
Hmm, well, I wasn't thinking something too dark or anything. I like the Cthulu setting and all, but I am not super keen on it as a superhero setting. I did not think my character would necessarily know of having powers pre-game. Or on the opposite side, depending on the setting, is a person who very obviously has powers and can't pass as a normal person. I was thinking something more like X-Men, in terms of setting, but I can be open to something lighter or something grittier. I was thinking of a world that shows some of the realistic backlash you might experience from society if people with superpowers were springing up. It's always interesting to explore not just matters of crime fighting but themes of social justice in games. High school age is fine by me, but into adulthood works. I'm not sure I'd be keen on playing younger than that, though.

I don't really have a preference when it comes to system, regardless of which one we use, I will be learning a new one. Valiant is fine, I can probably borrow any rules stuff from Leoian. I think those invited to the game will likely be trustworthy enough to self-police when it comes to power usage. -Creating our own world could be interesting, I'm always interested in imagining up ways that superheroes might come to be. Superpowered humans may even be the trigger for the plot! If you're more comfortable doing something with less worldbuilding, though, I am good for that. -I would rather this be an origin story. If we're getting used to a new system, it might be easier to explain any hiccups as newbies learning the ropes. -I imagine individually any one of our characters should probably be classified as a threat to non-powered individuals, but not societal threats, if that makes sense.

That brings Speakeasy to a close, with the cop side winning. As usual, I kept a scoresheet. Feel free to discuss any post game thoughts! If you have any ideas for how to improve the games in the future, please let me know, and I hope you enjoyed Meowselsworth's Speakeasy! If you have thoughts for future themes, I'm interested in hearing them.

The others descend upon Corbyn, the outsider feeling the full brunt of the anxieties of the speakeasy's regular crew. They use Tony's switchblade to cut into the man's gut, hopeful that this will not be their last day of life. They sift through in desperation, blood getting on their hands, but come up empty. Rick turns to address the others soon after the gruesome display, seeming a bit woozy, but Kitty places a hand on his shoulder from behind, and with a flash of silver, cuts a line across the private dick's throat. She looks down and watches him bleed, knowing at this point there's little point in trying to hide. The numbers advantage no longer belongs to the criminals. Kitty laughs hollowly and says to Jimmy, "I took out three of them out, Jim, and you only managed one? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're getting slow." Jimmy smiles knowingly in reply while washing a glass, "Ah, you forget my dear... I was the one who prepared the drinks." Corbyn Osric was torn apart. He was a criminal.
Kitty took their breath away. She IS the silencer.
The game is over, and the cops win!
Female Helmet Cat
As the criminals in the speakeasy start to gang up on the outsider, he attempts to escape their grasp but the popping of stitches and the sudden sharp pain that brings causes him to hesitate for a moment. That's all the time that's required for Corbyn, Geoffrey and Kitty to descend upon him and end his pain with two of them holding him back and the third driving the knife through his heart. But any search through his body or his pockets reveal that he is exactly what he said he was: a criminal. There is a few quick gunshots and the shattering of the lights that illuminates the speakeasy, and it seems unclear from where. The legs of chairs scrape against the wooden floor as people move to stand up in reaction to the shocking noise. By the time a quick thinking criminal lights up a candle to see what's going on, it's too late to save the speakeasy's poet: he hangs from the rafter, swaying with a creaking sound. Among his personal affairs, there is a rhyming dictionary with notes in the margin. In a page with a folded corner, starting with 'bl' there is a note remarking, 'Unbound? Sud sound? Nothing good rhymes with bloodhound!' Jeremy Gudwal was heartbroken. He was a criminal.
Round 4 starts now!
Female Helmet Cat
Jeremy Gudwal's accusation seems to bring the ire and attention of both Harold and Corbyn towards him, and when the two start towards him, they are only held off by Jimmy C Smith's calmer words. The commotion seems to have provided some distraction, however, enough for the gathered criminals to not notice that Mike Cooper has been uncharacteristically silent for this debate. This is because of the knife driven into his chest, with the doorknobs hanging off of it. Seems one of the badges has a sick sense of humour. In Mike's pocket, you find a notepad where he kept notes about who was interacting with whom in the bar, but unfortunately, the page is dyed with blood and serves little use anymore. In retrospect, he should not have used a red pen. Mike Cooper was made into a true doorman! Mike Cooper was the Scout. Round 3 begins now.

I've realized that I might be out on Monday night, due to it being Halloween. I will extend this week's deadline to Tuesday at 6pm MST, since I won't be able to update the board at the proper time and I don't want to have to freeze things for hours at a time. I know there's enough anxiety in this game without it!

Question: How does the scan resolve? Answer: I roll 1d4. If it comes up 1, the scan is a failure, otherwise it is a success. If it is a failures, I check all surviving roles and one is chosen at random. That is the result returned to the person with the investigative role. This list does include the investigator's own role, so the only situation where you'll know for certain your scan is failed is if you scan someone else as your own role.

Question: Can information be passed on after death, via sealed note? Answer: No. You cannot pass information after death. You could leave a spoilered post, but people could choose to peek. The only exception is that you can PM me a death speech if you think you are likely to be lynched, which I will post during the end of round results, but that must still be sent to me before the results of the lynch. You can also provide a note to the another player, and they may choose to reveal your note at will. You cannot prompt them to reveal it after death, as that would be considered cheating, since the dead cannot influence the results of the rounds.
Female Helmet Cat
End of Round 1! You all decide together that you will not unleash violence upon one another for this hour, because there are those who are working their investigation in the background. Tony always has people for these kinds of jobs. This seems to work out well for you, and things are quiet in the speakeasy. In fact, the quiet is a bit unnerving. Usually there is the music, the dancing, the talking, the excitement, but now there is nothing. Not the clanking of glasses or the booming laughter or even the clacking of keys on a typewriter. For any who realize why this may be strange, they may notice that Willard Wainwright appears to be staring ahead with eyes glazed, wearing a rather out of style sort of necktie, tied too tight and made from piano wire. Willard Wainwright was garroted. He was a criminal. Round 2 starts now.
Female Helmet Cat
Question: How does the scout watching work? Answer: The scout discovers the name of anyone who targeted their target in the same round. If the scout targets A, the scout is told anyone who targeted A, whether it is a criminal or cop doing the target. Cop kill vote counts as a targeting ability. If a character is targeting A with two powers, the scout is notified only once. The scout does not discover anything about their target. If A targets anyone else, the scout does not discover it. If A targets themselves, then the scout will receive A's name.
Female Helmet Cat
Question: What order are the results resolved in? Answer: The lynch is always first. The Nullifier's effect is resolved. The Enforcer protection is activated. The mafia vote and results occurs. The bloodhound scan results occurs at the same time as the Scout watch. The scout's watch succeeds even on a dead target.

If you have any questions about gameplay, please send me a PM, and I will answer your question for everyone in discussion, but I will keep the source of the question anonymous. I will also rephrase questions to differ from the asker's style. Remember that Criminals are ironically the civilian role for this game, and the Undercover Cops are the enemy role.
Female Helmet Cat
The Tiger pauses for emphasis as his eyes catch those of each person in the room. He holds his hand in front of the cat, letting the tabby lick the blood off. "So I get a message this morning, saying that tonight, Chief Leone's guys are going to be hitting us tonight. I laugh at first, 'cause they've tried this before. But then I hear, three of my people are actually undercover and out for our crew's blood. Well, I couldn't believe it, but Dominic here... he slipped up. So he got ripped up." Once the cat is done with the licking, Tony draws a handkerchief and starts cleaning his hands of blood a bit more thoroughly. "But turns out, these folks realized I was going to be checking for badges tonight, and they were ordered to get rid of them. Swallow 'em if they have to!" He tosses the badge onto Dominic's twisted body. "And swallow 'em they did. Now, you folks here tonight, you're the ones I've narrowed it down to. My lawyer said to just pump you all full of lead from a tommy gun and leave it at that. That's the only way to be sure of it..." The Tiger grimaces at that idea and shakes his head, "I know most of you would kill for me. And I know most of you would die for me. So I think," He pulls a switchblade from his pocket and puts it on the table, "that I'll let you sort it out. I trust my people to be more clever than any dirty cops. Be careful, though, these two folks they have left are the best they have. They call them The Silencer, and The Dirty Sleuth. I'm gonna head to the back for a second. I'm the prime target here, so if anyone heads through that curtain after me, the cover charge is your head." Tony "The Tiger" Ruggiero voted for Dominic.
Remaining criminal roles are:
Additionally, I will be disclosing to the Undercover Cops each other's roles. PMs are allowed to be used for coordinating. Good luck!

There is a commotion in the back room, the surprised cry of the person the regulars might recognize as Dominic, a good friend and booze supplier to Tony. There's the sound of a struggle, the smashing of glass and a couple of snaps. For just a moment, there is silence. "That's just GRRRRRRRRREAT!" roars The Tiger, as he enters the room holding the mangled and bloodied corpse of his friend. His hands are covered in blood, and his tie is slightly undone. A couple of buttons popped when the mountain of a man killed the booze runners with his bare hands. He sniffs with disdain and holds his hand out to drop Dominic to the ground, holding a bloodied deputy badge in the others. He shakes his head and sits down in one of the chairs, gesturing for his tabby cat to jump up on his lap, which it obediently does. He leans forward with menace as he looks to the folks gathered there, his presence commanding attention even beyond what his entrance would cause. "Let me tell you how my day is going..." Round 0 has ended. Please wait for me to start Round 1.

For setting info like magic, I leave it to the players to set theme elements. Anything you say in narration about background info is considered canon, so long as it does not affect mechanics. I will also sometimes introduce elements, and the main one is that this is a prohibition era analogue.
Female Helmet Cat
Music is playing, the drinks are flowing and everyone has been having a real good time. Tony "The Tiger" Ruggiero sits behind a curtain away from the crowd, as he normally does, presumably entertaining whatever guests that he has back there. But the service is good, and the place is under his protection, so the cops tend to know not to show up. There has been, however, the rumblings of a rumour about Police Chief Leone sending undercover police officers to meddle in Ruggiero's affairs. Some of Ruggiero's men and patrons have even gone missing in the past couple of days. But surely they'll turn up, right? The police force would not resort to murder. Would they? This thought may be on everyone's mind as one of the bouncers quietly locks the door. Tonight, it's not the usual crew. Seems like fewer people about than usual, but there's still all the standard entertainment. So why not enjoy yourselves? Sometimes it pays to live every day like it's your last. Round 0 starts now! Round 0 will end Monday at 6pm MST, 0:00:00 Paizo time. Round 0 has no roles assigned, so that everyone can get familiar with their character and post in, and so I will have a hard number for participants. At the end of Round 0, I will post what roles are in the game and secretly send each player their secret role. I hope you all enjoy Meowselsworth's Speakeasy!
I'd like to start Round 0 next Monday evening (though I don't know what time I'll be starting it since I'll be out of province for awhile this week for Thanksgiving), the Round 0 end will follow the same 6pm MST/0:00:00 GMT as in "Who Goes There?". If you have any friends who would like to join before them, feel free to give them an invite! More the merrier. However many I get, we'll start the game on Monday.

That's 9 players, which should be enough to play an alright game! I need to figure out a good time to start round 0.
Female Helmet Cat
For those of you interested in a new game, I have started a recruitment thread. I will be marking this thread as inactive in about a week's time, at least sometime before the next game ends.
