Liberty's Edge

I apologize, Life got in the way and I have only now rectified it.
Unfortunately I don't believe I will be able to continue at any reasonable pace. If you can find another DM excellent if not I am truly sorry I could not finish this out.

Liberty's Edge

I'll just assume Tharjuk is going to do this

Heal Tharjuk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

That's enough to know that the wounds are very snake like, and you could assis with recovery.

Cast Detect poison.

Wisdom Tharjuk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

He is Poisioned but you can't tell with what exactly

Proudstump says he thinks it was a viper but he can't be sure.

@Sybil

He does seem a bit off, it doesn't seem like pride is the reason.
But he does seem to be telling the truth about the snakes. (He is a halfling so the snakes would not need to be that big to reach him)

He invites you in and begins to rummage through the cupboards in the kitchen opening them all looking for food and bowls. he offers you some cured meat and water.

"not much but It will have to do."

Tharjuk will cast a cure light wounds on him

CLW Tharjuk: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

He relaxes a bit. "That feels much better."

Liberty's Edge

He looks at you in thought for a moment.

"I was attacked in my garden by some snakes, if you can help with the pain I would be thankful."

Liberty's Edge

Approaching the house once more you see the sleeping halfling.

getting closer he startles awake, jumping up in a panic until he spots you.

"Oh... It's you again." he says, squinting into the darkness. "Was there something else you wanted?"

Liberty's Edge

I don't know if you are waiting for me to post something... go with your gut.

He settles in to watch, maybe he could catch something exciting and then head back to the others..............

Eventually, the halfling succumbs to sleep. And slumps over in his chair.

He seems almost like he is expecting something to happen, and he does not want to miss it.

Liberty's Edge

You and Irnk slowly make your way back towards the house. It's becoming dusk and you are able to approach in the falling shadows.

Proudstump is sitting on a chair in front of the house, you see him begin to nod off to sleep, then jolt awake and look around expectantly. This happens a few times over the course of 10 minutes.

@Dalford

Your keen eyes notice as he wakes up each time an odd shiver that seems to play along his face and hands.

Liberty's Edge

@Tharjuk

"Yes! Well I have tracked a many things, all over the places. you know there is an old fishing trail that you could link up with and I bet it would take you right there. Easy.

Perception Tharjuk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Tharjuk:
You notice Proudstump seems to be favoring his left side and is breathing a bit heavy

@Irnk and Galford,

He seems to be telling the truth about the direction of the village vague as it is. You can also tell he does seem to not want to be dealing with visitors.

We have been told that you are the most knowledgeable about this area and would like to ask you a few questions before adventuring further into the marsh." Repeats the dwarf with a smile.

"First, would you know anything about where the goblins have found new weapons? That would be really helpful. Otherwise, could you point us in the direction of their settlement and tell us of any particular dangers in the swamp?"

"Goblins! Yes!... He says wincing a bit on the word Goblins "Nasty business them... Rumor has it they are planning something. I think they have a village to the south east, you would best be going if you want to catch them." He looks at you and then the trail from back you came expectantly.

Sorry guys my job has me away, until Monday morning. I just won't be able to post anything until then. I know this must be frustrating but I shall return. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Liberty's Edge

sorry guys, very busy at work, haven't had time to log on. I'll have something up shortly.

Liberty's Edge

As you knock on the door you hear a cough and some shuffling from around the side of the house.

A Halfling rounds the corner, and notices you. He stands a little over 4 feet tall, with mussed up brown hair, and while his clothes are well maintained they are caked in mud.

"Oh, Visitors, I don't think I was expecting anyone today." He gives you a smile. "I'd uh invite you in but the place is a mess you see, it wouldn't be proper. What brings you down this way?"

@Galford

you identify a number of plants common to the area such as the Arrow arum a plant with large triangular leaf blades and some Marsh hibiscus

As for pranking infinite possibilities lay before you.

Liberty's Edge

Giving a careful eye to the bridge you approach. Ready for an ambush or other danger you are relieved to find only a deceptively worn out bridge. it's actually quite sound.

Aven and Sybil, as you cross the bridge it gives you a view deeper into the swamp you think you catch a glimpse of something in the distance, a person dressed in rags, but it disappears into the woods before you can get a better look.

Continuing on you can't quite shake the feeling something is out there but you see nothing else.

It takes the better part of the day to travel the path but eventually you come upon a fork. A muddy trail leads up to a swampy lagoon. The open ocean is visible just beyond these shallow waters, while an old two-story building, its walls soggy with moss and its roof sagging with age, sits on the lagoon’s eastern shore.

Liberty's Edge

The trail itself is fairly traveled, but being in the marsh it's still a bit slow going. the deeper you go into the marsh the more overgrown the plants and trees on either side of the trail become and a thin fog surrounds some of the swampier places.

As you continue down the trail you begin to hear the sounds of running water, and soon in the distance you see what apears to be a small river with a rickety looking bridge crossing.

You guys can give me some perception checks, and any other things you would like to do.

I don't suppose that is still good enough to know how to find Proudstump?

Pointedly ignoring Avan's comments, Irnk nods in acknowledgment of Dao's query. "Yeah, 'stumpy' spends more time out in the damp than anyone who isn't a giggling pyromaniac, he'll have the best idea where they are now..."

You would know of the fishing trail Shalelu was talking about, it's still used on occasion.

Liberty's Edge

"Irnk Knows Goblins and how they operate. Proudstump knows the marsh"

Irnk, you will get a +5 to most rolls when dealing with navigating, tracking, or knowlege checks regarding goblins in this area

Liberty's Edge

Interrupting your conversation, Shalelu clears her throat.

"I'm sure your eager to continue discussing the dangers of this incursion, so I'll be brief."

Irnk can attest that these swamps are dangerous, not just from the inhabitants, but the land itself is unmapped and treacherous. Even I rarely travel into the depths and even then I do not stray from the paths."

If you are truly seeking the heads of the Licktoads you may want to speak to Walthus Proudstump he's an... odd hafling who resides in the marsh. there is a trail that runs by his house a bit south of here.

Before she turns to leave, Shalelu addresses Irnk.

"Haagac ar dan'd a gheralaan dar A kaarorthaan o tuun ghakec or arluun. Okhaar daan huul agaan kuulec or dhuur o or o magaan a huul'daac muugaaruun ac or an. Shuulkaan rhan taklaal'dec ac A dech taan dar o dech rhaan dral khraar duul'daagakhaal ac Takuuc."

Goblin:

@Everyone

Come the following morning you gather at the Rusty Dragon, as ready as you can be to depart.

Ameiko is there to see you off.

"Hey Tharjuk. She says with a smile tossing a familiar looking pouch at you."I found this while I was cleaning up after Aven."

"Everyone, good luck out there. I would love to get back out there and help but someone has to look after this place.

A look of nostalgia crosses he face for a moment but she shakes it away.

I suggest you travel south along the Lost Coast road, A friend of mine, Shalelu will be waiting for you. She's much more familiar with the marsh than I am and she would be your best bet on tracking down the Licktoads.

If there are other things you want to say/do post and we will do them along side,

Headed south on the well traveled road, things are easy going, the weather is clear and warm. It seems that word of the attacks has spread as there is little to no traffic.

As you continue traveling you spot two figures in the distance, a tall cloaked figure seems to be conversing with a small person of some sort.

as you approach you cam make out Shalelu speaking to an oddly dressed Goblin.

Liberty's Edge

@Aven

"Who's stopping people from helping the city?"Ameiko, says spreading her arms. "I'm just stopping some of the hotheads from running headlong into the marsh alone without preparing first."

"You seem eager to head out why not go with Galford, I'm sure he could use your help."

Liberty's Edge

@DM Kludde

Are you still accepting for the campaign? I was away and missed your post with my name in it.

Liberty's Edge

@Everyone at the bar

Ameiko will speak to you all individually about going on this expedition, if there is anything in particular you want to have addressed let her know She will provide you with some supplies if you need them (on bar credit)within reason.

After you are prepared Ameiko says to you.

"I don't know much about the marsh other than it can be a dangerous place. I do have some good news for you though, it seems we may have found a guide for you, A close friend of mine Shalelu has... acquired help in this manner. She will meet you along the Old coast road tomorrow afternoon.

She looks all of you over

"Good luck and come back alive ok."

Liberty's Edge

@Aven

"Orcs, at least have purpose to their actions. Goblins on the other hand seem to act on whim. Full of violence and evil... Although I have heard a rumor lately of an exception to the rule."

She finishes her drink, and stands up.

Aven, If you want to help this town staying in this bar and bouncing won't take you very far, I think you could do fine with a bit of action. Talk to Ameiko I'm sure she'll let you go on this hunt.

She walks over to the bar and you can see her talking to Ameiko. After a few words she heads for the door and departs.

@Irnk

"No deaths yet but things are escalating, people are getting hurt and Sandpoint is now taking action

Liberty's Edge

Ameiko stands up and addresses the bar.

"Sit down Galford. All right everyone, I know how dangerous this kind of thing can be. And I know most all of you and I don't want anyone going out on their own and getting killed. What I propose is whoever wishes to partake in this endevor come to me and I will evaluate your abilities and create a group from who I think can handle themselves."

You see a number of patrons nodding their approval.

At the Rusty Dragon later that evening, things have finally started to settle down. Much of the conversation in the bar is of Goblins and the attacks. Sandru is conversing with Ameiko at the bar, and a number of caravan workers and locals fill up tables throughout. A hooded figure sits at the back of the room away from the majority of the crowd

Perception Tharjuk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Perception Galford: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Sybil,Avan:
It's Shalelu

As the evening goes on and drink flows, one of the more boisterous locals pipes up to a caravan worker.

“Look at the lot of you, running away from a bunch of little Goblins... If I were there I wouda taken em all on myself... I would eve picked one up and smashed the lot of em, with em...

“The hell you would have” Says the worker standing up quickly “you want to take this outside?”

Things seem to be escalating but are interrupted when the door swings open with a crack. Standing in the entrance is Sheriff Belor Hemlock, he scans the room, eyes finally settling on the two customers. Seeing him the local man immediately apologizes and retakes his seat. Ameiko and Sandru pause their conversation and turn to the door.

”Gentleman.... And ladies He says tipping his hat to the room. It's come to my attention that there is an issue that has cropped up with some goblins.” He walks over to Ameiko and hands her a scroll. “Ameiko, I figured I'd give your customers the first kick at the can on this... Sandpoint has reinstated a bounty on goblins. That's 10 gp for every relatively fresh goblin ear delivered to the town hall... with an additional reward of 300 gp for the group who can bring in the head of the Licktoads’ leader, Chief Gutwad.

The crown begins to murmur with excitement, but Belor cuts them off.

”I shouldn't have to remind you why the last bounty ended. A good group of hunters died trying to get ears.

He heads towards the exit and before leaving turns around.

“And one more thing don't come to my office with a sack full of ears, Go to town hall... If anyone comes to me to redeem ears I am locking them up for a week.

With that he turns and leaves.

Liberty's Edge

Hey my post disappeared!

well good thing I wrote it down.

Liberty's Edge

@Galford

As you approach the city gates, you see some guards stand up, one of them seems to be barking some orders, and you see them draw their weapons.

Seeing this, you slow your horse and approach.

The one that had been giving orders, visibly relaxes as you slow down.

”Hold up now, What brings you here in such a hurry?” He says cautiously.

After quickly explaining about the attack on the caravan, he curses ”Dammit! That's the second time this week, we've had reports of goblin attacks. As he speaks you hear the other guards whispering amongst themselves

”Goblins again?
“What in the hell has gotten into them.”
“Well, they better not come here, I'll Rip em' apart with my bare hands”
“You couldn't rip your way out of a wet sack”
“I'll sack you, if you don't watch your mouth”

Turning to the rest of the guards the gate captain yells “ENOUGH!, unless you want to be put on the next patrol out on the Lost Coast road” Seeing that he's serious the guards shut up and disperse to their posts.

He turns back to you.

“You can find Kendra Deverin at city hall. Tell her what you've told me. In the mean time we will watch for your caravan and give any assistance we can.”

You ride past, towards city hall, stopping only momentarily near the Rusty Dragon to shout a warning about the goblins.

As you approach you recognize city hall, a strongly built stone building, the scars on the building tell of the trials and triumphs in the history of Sandpoint.

Rushing in the front door you call out to speak with the mayor. An older woman in fine clothes reacts when you say this.

“I'm the mayor, what business do you have with me?”

You explain what happened on the road, and her expression visibly angers.

”this isn't the first report of this I have heard, and it can no longer be a coincidence that something odd is happening with these goblins. She begins to pace the floor, thinking quietly. Stopping and seeming to come to a conclusion she calls one of her aids over.

”Contact, Sheriff Belor Hemlock and have him come here immediately. We will convene a meeting to figure out what we are to do about this new menace.”

The mayor thanks you for your information and calls over some of her aids to assist her in preparing the conference room.

@Tharjuk, Apex, Sybil, Avan.

Your time in the Rusty Dragon is interrupted by the door bursting open, as an out of breath Kenku, shouts a warning of a caravan attack, before rushing back out.

Fearing for the worst the four of you as well as a few other patrons run out towards the front gate.
Perhaps 10 minutes after arriving, you see the caravan approaching in the distance.

Perception Tharjuk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Perception Sybil: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Perception Apex: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Perception Avan: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Sybil you notice odd scorch marks along the sides of some of the wagons.

The caravan approaches the gate slowing to a halt. The guards and the rest of you rush up to where a swarthy gentleman is stepping down from a cart. (Sandru for those who know him)

”We heard of an attack on your caravan, Is everyone all right?”

Sandru nods”Thanks to Koya and her magic the worst we have is a bit of scrapes and bruises, although it could have been much worse.”

Looking around at the crowd that has gathered, Sandru strokes his goatee.

“Did all of you come out to help when you heard ol' Sandru was in trouble? Here I was thinking there were no good people left in the world he chuckles. Well one good turn deserves another. If any of you are going to be near the Rusty Dragon later drinks are on me”

He calls out to the others in the caravan to begin setting up camp just outside the city walls. After a bit to make sure everything is going smoothly he departs into the city towards the Rusty Dragon.

More to follow, a bit later. in the mean time feel free to fill in the blanks of this post with any extra information your characters would want.

At least warning them would prepare them against any sudden attacks. I guess I could also go out and scout around a bit as well."

"I doubt goblins would be that stupid to attack the city, but warning the mayor would be a good idea. Grab one of the horses and ride on ahead.

The person you're looking for is Kendra Deverin. Explain to her what's happened, at the very least the city may increase the patrols on this road."

Sandru, slows down and calls out for a riding horse.

"Hey, when your done with the mayor, come meet me at the Rusty Dragon for a drink. I'll see that everyone reaches the city safely. We'll talk about what we can do about this issue then.

Sandru and a few other workers scramble to load the wounded onto the cart. Once they are on board the caravan heads towards Sandpoint. As you move away you can hear the bangs fading into the distance.

Koya is with the injured members healing their wounds.

After 30 minutes or so the city of Sandpoint comes into view over the horizon. Slowing the horses of the caravan, Sandru breaths a sigh of relief.

"Koya, how are the guys doing back there?"

You hear Koya from the back of the wagon"Their wounds were severe but I've managed to get them stabilized. They'll live."

Sandru turns to you

Goblins! They are firing from the edge of the woods.

He turns and begins to bark orders

"Quickly, get anyone who is wounded onto the carts, we need to put distance between us and the forest. Ride North Toward Sandpoint. The goblins would be suicidal to follow us that far"

"You're in luck, the caravan is due to arrive today. I don't know how long you would like to wait around here but I can guarantee the owner will be swinging by. He's an old friend of mine, and he's the one you should talk to."

Finished with the plate she was working on Ameiko, brings it and a mug of water over to the blue haired lady.

While you can't see any immediate damage to the caravan you do see a few riders that have been thrown off their panicking horses lying unmoving on the ground.

With that Knowledge local, you have heard that the town has recently enacted a bounty on goblins. It's likely Shalelu's tone implies she would like to see Irnk participate in the goblin killing.

"The Licktoad goblins in the area have been unusually aggressive, they seem to have found a cache of explosives or fireworks and it's causing no end of trouble".

As she speaks you notice a number of figures approaching along the trail.

Regarding group role, Sybil was suppose to aim at three roles:

1) Make extracts for the group so that characters have access to self spells that are not usually accessible to them (using the infusion discovery).

2) Throw bombs at ennemies (using either controlling bombs or different elemental bombs).

3) Disarm trap and scout in dark areas where not having darkvision is just plain dangerous.

However, I noticed that Galford Dao is quite excelling at spotting traps and Irnk has impossible stealth level on top of darkvision.

Sooo..... that makes some of Sybil's class abilities (Trapfinding) quite redundant and her stealth not really useful. I believe her skills are well chosen for her background (so will keep stealth and disable device).

However, I would like to suggest, to our GM and everyone, a change that would make her less of a third wheel (or sixth...): swapping crypt breaker for mindchemist. It would still fit her background (since the mutagen idea was to enhance her senses, which is true for both archetypes) and make her a better battle support.

On an unrelated note: poor Irnk.... being chased around like that!

It's up to you, feel free to change your archetype, it's hard not to overlap when there are six players. But you may not always be together in a group either.
