Happy to hear about new content for that part of Golarion.

My sole expectation for the AP is that they bring back the possession system from one of the books in Jade Regent, but way more present/developed: i felt it was criminally underused and that would be very interesting to have semi-permanent or various wanderious spirits affecting our character for good or ill.

Is there any artwork available of Nakta and Merthig, two of the house leaders/mammoth lords?

The books only seem to have portraits of the other two leaders, Argakoa and Eiwa, and a wide shot of the five mammoth lords leading the following on page 66. I was hoping to be able to show my players the leaders of all the houses when they decide where their PCs belong.

Hello Shadram !

I can say that there is sadly no art of both of these characters. I checked the player guide, first book and the second book. i'd be shocked if there were THIS late shown in the third however, that seems way too late. Unless there's any in the mammoth lord region's book, seems like those need to get art chosen by the DM, instead :l

Flagged to be moved to the Rise of the Runelords section.

oh thanks, i missed to see the runelord thread ! Not really used to the forum for now...

Hey there, folks. First, thanks for taking interest in this thread, i'll try to be detailed but concise (which is hard for me). I apologize in advance if i don't take the exact terms of spells/skills, since i'm relatively fluent in written english as a second language but haven't played enough PF to know all terms by heart (first real campaign, tbh)

Here's the situation i'm in:

at the end of chap 2, i was the only character who didn't survived Xanesha's fight (the GM thought i would be the only survivor, but that's the joy of roleplaying !). It was a tengu ranger and the main DPS of the team (i played it as a switch hitter). As a reward for having played it really well rp-speaking and having guts against the boss (i saved the rogue trying to remove her mask by taking aggro in melee), he offered me any race and class i wished for my next chara.

Being a fan of monster archetypes, and since we were in dire need of a frontliner (the current roster was a rogue, a priestess and an inquisitor, which changed for an oracle 1 game after ) i chose an human ogrekin barbarian. We took some time to see the pro and con (including LA), and he accepted. Core stats are looking like that for now (BARBARIAN LEVEL 7 Invulnerable rager): Str 26, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 8, Wis 10, Cha 10 (yes, i didn't wanted her to look extremely gross and i don't like dumping Cha so i put a 10 (12 with the -2 racial), her deformities being the arms bonus and the legs malus).

rp speaking, she's a tad childish but serious when needed, a good blacksmith, and likes to wrestle against massive things like Bears. She's having issues with Magnimar residents, being seen like a dangerous bastard, but she found comfort and reckognition in the black arrows. She tries to be friendly but the ogre blood doesn't help, giving her rage bursts. I could detail a LOT more but not's now the point.

Her actual noticeable equipement are a L Warhammer dealing 2d6/*3 with a +1d6 thunder damage (the bonus was obtained randomly,as a way to have already a "starting equipment".) and a cape to look human (who doesn't work on rage for rp potential). Nothing more magic or noteworthy on her.
fun fact: i'll pick the feats to make weapons myself since nobody in the team picked creation feats, i'll take weaponry magic creation at next level feat, and i have the feat allowing non-casters to have creation feats)

the warhammer have a "power attack "damage bonus of +18 with no buffs, and +24 with rage and bull strength casted by the priestess.

here's how the beginning of part 3 went (It's mostly to show the game to give an idea but you can skip it):

i was introduced to the party as a member of the black arrows looking for reinforcements to get back Fort Rannick. As the best blacksmith in town (born from plains trait for craft bonus), i crafted some equipment for them and we left quickly.

when we left magnimar, we passed through a forest and escaped from a green dragon a a gigantic worm from lamashtu. only the rogue and a cavalier (the gm brother who's getting initiated at PF)managed to save the party during the escape, i didn't hit anything except during a small wolf attack introducing the cavalier who joined (with the npc shalelu).

when we encountered the first grauul, everybody had a say in the fight. after surrender, when he showed the blanket made with black arrows skins, i purposely throw a will save . a 0. i then proceded to transform him into mashed meat. lost rage rounds and building tension with shalelu for being instable. that was a nice rp moment. oh and all his loot was shattered ;).

then, while looking at the Grauul barn, we "tried" to be stealthy. there was annoying birds circling around. i decide to get angry about it and try to shoot them with my spare bow, but the ogrekin with the crow name pierces my chest by surprise. With no nice options to unsheat my warhammer in a confortable space, i push my luck and try to grapple. it works wonders. managed to pull him and let the rogue punish him in the back while holding the raging fellow. we after proceed to kill his followers.
In the barn,we found a giant spider trying the eat the surviving black arrows. we managed to all leave without massive injuries, but Jackardos scolds me for not thinking about protecting my friends, prefering to rescue him (i throwed an axe to him so he can defend himself instead of trying to remove the webs around the oracle at round 1. )

we pass the night and come back at dawn., without the black arrows rescued. The rogue isn't there for the game, having a irl problem. So my barbarian tasted almost all traps in the hideout (including a +/- 50 damage in one shot). but the priestess does her job. near Ma' graul (haven't found her but she did), the priestess becomes blind, almost everybody gets trapped in a grease spell except the cavalier who charges. i use spell sunder on grease, but when we arrive to help the cavalier, he's got teleported. we then have definitive rounds to find him before he dies. knowing the spider isn't dead, i expect the worst and rush there with shaalelu. the oracle and priestess takes more time to come back (resulting in the oracle's death, being ambushed by one of the Grauls in the house). At the barn, i manage to get the aggro of the spider by using Death or Glory.the fight is mostly shalelu and me (the priestess come later in the fight. Ma graul (100% focused on me)managed to hit me hard with her spell (contagion, curse (the 50%, i skiped 3-4 turn because of this s+!*...i only manage to resist the fatigue ray). luckily, i manage to get rid of the spider before my 3-4 turns in a row of stun. And ma graul loses a concentration check, losing her fly spell and falling on the webs, giving me a fair chance to hit her skull. The cavalier is saved but KO. We then returns of the home to avenge the oracle, hit the graul, the graul flees , i pursue him but he traps me in a room with his brother-abomination. But the abomination tastes a critical of my warhammer (the only critical i did of the game). We bury the oracle and go back at fort rannick...

So... after the game , the GM was semi-joking about the fact he putting a "to kill" list on me for taking/giving too much hits and the priestess for healing too much. I'm sure he was joking for the priestess, but i'm not sure about me. He was publicly concerned about my damage output. True, she packs a punch (a power attacks in rage mode with Bull strength casted by the priestess deals 2d6 + 24 + 1d6 thunder), but i think he played well by countering me with traps, fly, spells... i tried to tell him to come and see me if the character is REALLY a problem, but he doesn't initiate the conversation very often, and i don't want to be "annoying" (he's my favorite player/gm of all the group, all rpgs included).

So basically, i dunno if i should be reconsidering my build or if he should continue trying to counter me or give the other more light ( i haven't put the social moments in the game summary, but everyone had some social moment). The thing is our group isn't very optimised, so i think were in danger if i nerf myself.

For my build (he accepts d&d prestige classes if they can fit PF), i considered, maybe going shapeshift/grapple. my level 8 would probably be Bear Warrior (for bear shape) and level 9 would be Warshaper (for crit immune and natural attack). mayyyybe black blood cultist, but that would need a massive roleplay way to have it (maybe lamashtu having interest in me and giving me a special night ritual against my will ? that could be funzies). the reason for the grappling bear is roleplay (the chara is fond of bears and regularly does sparring with Kibb, Jackardos's companion. she even lifts it for her morning push-ups and beat it in a arm wrestle match. she's like Kibb best pal) and gameplay wise (would be a great tanky/crowd control for a mono target, and could give a safe chance for the rogue to attack (he's EXTREMELY scarred of closed-combat so i thought about a solution to help him get more invested in the fights, which would be me bear-hugging and nom-nom the ennemy face while he's doing acupuncture behind. i think the cmb of my chara could be enough if i bear warrior build, but rage cycling and reverting back to human-ogrekin every 2 rounds would pose a MASSIVE issue againt Huge+ ennemies), hard to wrestle when you constantly expand/shrink. This way, i could reduce my damage output, but still be helpful as a tank.

So, what are you thinking about it ?
Should i retell my GM he have many ways to counter me he haven't used much yet (DR, incorporeal, spells reducing movements, fatiguing or mind-affecting, flight...). It's his first experience as a PATHFINDER GM.
Should i go full bear warrior build to be a mono-target tank grappler?
is the rage-cycling free actions too much to do in one round? (i don't think rage cycling works in the same round like an "adrenaline rush", no?)
should i keep a more classic barbarian build?
does the character seems to outshine others (by looking at the summary i gave) and need a rebuild/nerf ?
is there a simpler way for me than bear-hugging to help my teammates have a say in the fight, notably the rogue ? (the cavalier seems fine charging everywhere he can, doe)
Any suggestion on build i could try, according to my chara ? i'm open to anything which could be nice in gameplay AND roleplay.

So there ya go. I excuse again if the whole text seems to scatter everywhere. if you need more details/clarifications, i'd be happy yo reply.

Have a good day !
