Childhood Background: Marcus was raised in a large city, but he was never want for food or comfort. His father, Philip Covell was a Lieutenant in his majesty's special forces and a duelist, bar none. Marcus was a quick study of his father's trade and spent his youth growing up among soldiers and the barracks. He had begun his extensive training with a rapier, and he was prepared to enter the corps when he reached the appropriate age. Upon entering the ranks, he did quite well as a scout in the infantry, before deciding that the monetary gains from the ranks were just not enough to support the lifestyle he craved. So, he retired early from his position, after only the required initial three years of service. He now held himself out as a mercenary for hire and adventurer, but still one of the greatest duelists in the land. He is motivated by fame and fortune, all he can surely foresee at the point of his dueling rapier.

Most recently, he hired onto a caravan that traveled from Marcus' place of birth in the large city lying between the forests of the northern Wild Coast and the inland mountains to the east to the southern desert. After spending several months studying the combat masters of the desert realm fighting pits, he was ready to return north. He hired on to yet another caravan heading to the forested region of the Wild Coast.
