Some more good ideas.

I think, especially in your example Lincoln, I'd tell the fighter to "go with the flow" and Hydro Push my fighter instead, since I can't see him having a a CMD greater than 10 if he chose to not defend, unless he had a size bonus.

To be honest, except for size bonus, I'm not sure why the fighter's CMD bonus couldn't be 0 since he could choose not to defend himself.

Very interesting ideas on how to use the spell. Wish I'd thought of them myself.

In the case of using it on an ally, I should treat his CMD as 0 then? Which means he automatically goes at least 10 feet?

Specifically as they relate to Hydraulic Push.

Caster Level+ INT bonus= CMB of 7.

Low level goblin has a CMD of 12 if I recall correctly.

So, I roll d20+7 and hope I beat 12 to push the gobbo 5 feet, and more for every 5 that I beat that number by?

If so, suggestions on how I can make this spell more useful? I'd really like to be able to use it to knock things off high places that lack ledges, you know?

Thank you all. It's good to know that my new 2nd lvl spell slot won't go to waste (I have 3 slots, but only know 2 2nd level spells from recently leveling up).

Please, I would be delighted to read suggestions of what spells are best suited to multiple preparations.

Online game, using the SRD site for rules and such.

I have a now 3rd level wizard. I had come to the conclusion that you can't prepare the same spell multiple times.

However, I just found this when rereading the section on magic:
"If you've prepared multiple copies of a single spell, you can cast each copy once."

Is there anything out there that contradicts this, or should I just be happy and accept my fortune?

Stupid computer just ate my reply. Here we go again.

First, point buy, and thank you, I will definitely take a look at that. To be honest, now that I'm this far into the process, I can't even remember why I bought my CHA up. Perhaps for dealing with summoned creatures? I don't think that was it....

Second, I was originally intending to use the pouch/feat combination to let some enemy think that by taking my pouch away I was helpless. I've since decided that while that would be fun, it might never come up.

Third- originally that was supposed to be a list of everything my character would take adventuring, most of which would be with the pack animal. Once I ran out of room I realized that was a stupid system. Now the sheet just has what the character would typically take on him when AWAY from the animal ("in the dunegon") so to say, and that is in the light load range. The stovecans were 10 lbs each; I totaled each line so that the sum at the end was accurate.

Fourth- Good idea, but I might need to wait. I only have 50 gp left or so since I bought all the necessary adventuring gear.

New question- The spell "Protection from Evil" is a completely different spell than, say "Protection from Chaos/etc?" I must learn each spell individually, and of course each one takes its own spell slot?

It seemed appropriate. I also liked how it offered some versatility in terms of battlefield control.

However, has anyone spotted obvious errors in my math in terms of HP, or Skill Ranks, or the number of starting spells (level 1) that I know?

What's an action point anyway? Is it like a "hero point?"

I chose Evocation as my favored school, and Enhancement and Necromancy as my opposing schools.

I wasn't sure what to make of those "subschools." Perhaps I should go give them another look? I just thought they were suggested prebuilds rather than distinct schools....

Ah, sorry. Tried to fix it, but the paizo site seemed to not want to load.

Here's a working link, and I'll edit the first post.

Edit: annoying, seems I can't edit after a certain period of time.... which expired while the paizo site was down/not cooperating. Oh well!

Hello all.

Here is the rough draft of my first Pathfinder character. I wanted to make sure I'd gotten my math right, and there were a few areas of the character sheet that I didn't recognize even after reviewing the SRDsite, so I'm posting him here in case anyone would like to skim it over and offer suggestions or corrections.

Much obliged.

Matthew- ah, I was confused because the site specifically says that a wizard is NOT restricted to metamagic, item creation, or Spell Mastery when choosing a bonus feat.

Grick- thank you for that. I can't believe I missed it; also thanks for reminding me about the additional language for each rank in Linguistics.

Alright, so let's make sure I've got my math straight like I did last night.

Being a wizard: 2+ Int Modifer (4 in this case)= 6 skill ranks per level. He's level 2, so that's 12.

Being human: +1 for each level. He's level 2, so that's 2.

The favored class: +1 for each level. Level 2, so that's 2. I think this is the part I was forgetting last night.

2(2+4)+2(1)+2(1)= 16. Good.

We seem to have some disagreement regarding whether I can use regular feats for metamagic, etc. Anyone else? A citation perhaps?

Also, I've looked and looked, and is there anything on the SRD site that says how many languages you know starting out? I figured that it would be Common + Int Modifier, so in this case Common + 4 more languages.

Thanks so much for you replies, they've been quite helpful.

Hello all. Got a question about building my first Pathfinder character (I've been using the SRD site).

He's starting out as a lvl 2 human wizard, with 18 INT. So by my calculations last night I determined that he had 16 ranks to be distributed, but now in the clean light of morning I can only come up with the math for 14 ranks.

Also, regarding feats- Can I only use bonus feats to get metamagic feats and their ilk? The SRD site isn't clear.

Also, I'm a bit confused on crafting staves. I know I need the Craft: Staves Magic Item creation feat.... (which I can only get as a bonus feat? See above), but at what level can I make a staff once I have that feat? I've read and reread, and it seems to me that I need to be lvl 11 to make a staff.

Gracias, muchachos.
