Thanks for the time spent, but with holidays and an uptick in work activity I'm not able to spend as much time as I should here.

Seems I kill every PBP game I enter. IT was fun while it lasted.

@DM Hector, did I see any evidence of the Ecclesiarchy at this site? Should I make a roll?

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malachi falls in step behind the Lord-Captain. While the air may be dusty and cold, it was still a hundred times more pleasant to Malachi than the sweat-infused recycled air on board the ship.

Malachi relaxes his stance somewhat and take a better look at his surroundings.

Are there any structures in the vicinity?

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malchi sees the merc group as the dust settles and slings his flamer down from his shoulder with a prayer on his lips. [b]'His Will is ever stong, we cannot fail in His sight. The Emperor protects...'[b]

Hector, would an Awareness roll allow me to determine their posture? Are they going to attack or are they waiting to parley with the Cpt?

At the Captain's request, Malachi tromps on board the shuttle. His armor, flamer, sword, pack and ecclesiarchal robes weigh almost as much as him. The veteran handles his bulk not with grace, but with ease and practiced motion. Sometimes he wonders if he is more equipment than man.

I'm ready to go, but worried that our Captain hasn't responded in about a week.

Apparently I still think you're a nice guy.

'Well, if it isn't possible to destroy them, I guess we'll have to go around them.'

BTW, I'm also assuming that this is a "cloud" of moons, randomly orbiting the planet and not a single orbital ring

'Yes sir, I'll get my things and meet everyone at the shuttle.'

Malachi leaves the bridge and makes haste to his quarters. Along the way, he grabs an idle crewman to help him with his armor. After reacquainting himself with his flak armor, Malachi dons a custom-fitted tabard and puts on his sword belt, making sure a fresh power cell is in the hilt of the burning blade.

Malachi thanks the hapless spacer for his assistance and grabs an away-bag while making his way to the shuttle.

Regarding the device, I just put that out as an option in case people forgot about it. I'm fine with whatever we decide to do.

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malachi sighs, clearly not looking forward to the thought of returning to the ship so soon. He walks briskly to the captain and whispers, 'Lord-Captain, the last warp voyage certainly was a bit stressful. Might I suggest that we stay on Footfall for a cycle or two to let the crew burn off some steam. Also, there is the matter of the "trophy" in your possession, perhaps there is someone on Footfall which may provide some information on its purpose.'

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Ok, thanks. Purchases made.

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Hector, when would it be appropriate to spend XP? Now that we're out of the warp, I would like to pick up the Charm skill.

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malachi offers a prayer of gratitude to the Emperor and steps off the ramp onto Footfall. He sees the Captain speaking to a man trying all to hard to pull off the look of a "legitimate businessman."

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malchi breathes a sigh of relief and offers thanks to the Emperor that they made it out of the Warp in once piece. Not having very much experience aboard a ship, he relegates himself to an empty on the bridge and sits down while his nerves settle.

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

His voice shakes slightly as he speaks, 'Ahem, valiant crew of the Adamant Will, this is Brother Malachi speaking. Please stay at your stations and remember your duty to The Emperor. This is just a slight bout of turbulence which will be over shortly.' Malachi pulls the vox-caster away slightly and utters 'By the Emperor's Short-Hairs, let's get out of this alive.' Half-a-second later, he realizes with horror that his thumb was still on the 'transmit' setting.

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Well, looks like that would be my first XP acquisition, I should have checked for that first!

Malachi nods at Vorgen and takes the Vox-caster from his hands. He clears his throat slightly and addresses the crew.

+10 to Malachi on whatever roll he intends to make.

GM, it looks like starting Missionaries don't actually have any interaction skills. Can I just make a Fellowship test to keep the crew calm and boost their morale?

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malachi steps onto the bridge, his face flushed with exertion, and sees the chaos around him. He reflexively utters a prayer of protection, 'O Eternal Emperor, Who Alone watches us, And rules the tides and storms, Be compassionate to your servants, Preserve us from the perils of the warp.'

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Deep in the hold-turned-impromptu-shrine, the klaxons startled Malachi, forcing him to cut short his sermon on St. Leonis the Blind.
'...and despite his lack of sight, he continued to spread the word of the Emperor, for he could still see clearly through His Grace.' *WAUGH* *WAUGH* *WAUGH* 'Ahem. That's all for now, return to your quarters. I'm sure this is a drill for the bridge crew. May the Emperor be with you.'

Although Malachi didn't know why they were dropping into real-space so suddenly, he hurriedly ran to his quarters to don his armor and retrieve his flamer and burning blade. As he left his quarters, he spoke into his micro-bead, 'Lord-Captain, I'm on my way to the bridge. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, might I ask the reason for our blessed return to normal space?'

I was rolling to determine if my response was correct and to see how the Ecclesiarchy would handle such a device, not necessarily for information on the device itself. I.e., would the normal response be to immediately jettison the thing or take it to a higher authority for destruction?

"I do not think we will find any demon taint on the device. It's something else that I suspect. The device has been inert since we have subdued it."

"Do I have your word that after the Emperor, your loyalty is to House Tyr first?"

Silas extends his hand to Malachi.

Malachi extends takes Silas' hand and says, 'You have my word,' and gives him a firm handshake.

'If you say it is not tainted by the forces of Chaos, then all the better. I can abide the occasional Xenos artifact with more confidence. Once the technology is understood, it is possible to put it to use for the Emperor. I am of the mindset that it does not matter the means to the end, as long as that end is to serve the betterment of Him on the Throne on Holy Terra.'

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

'Captain, are you afraid I will turn you over to the Inquisition?' Malachi said with a chuckle. 'You will find me somewhat more pragmatic than others you may have dealt with in the Ecclesiarchy. Let me see this thing. If this device carries some demon-taint, it would be better in our hands than left unattended. Once we reach a suitable place, we can hand this thing off to the Ordo Malleus for proper destruction.'

Going to make a skill check to make sure I am not talking out of my ass and to determine a proper way to contain this thing.

Malachi grabs an empty glass and fills it with a fair amount of amasec from the carafe. He puts it to his lips and pours the liquor back in a single, smooth draw. The taste brings back memories of his service during the Ork crusades, when the officers would issue a special dose of liquor courage before a major assault...

He puts the glass down and looks back up at Silas, 'What do you want to discuss? Something about the well-guarded trophy room, perhaps?'

Throughout the awkward silence, Malachi looks uneasily around the room, perhaps his comment was a little out of line.

Lord-Captain Silas Tyr wrote:

"I have my suspicions but they're better left unsaid as that may only cause worry."

"On a different matter, how are you finding your stay with us? I trust that you are not having a difficult time."

The Rogue Trader's phrasing was more worrisome to Malachi than what he may have shared. 'What are those suspicions? I would rather not walk into something for which I am unprepared. I assure you, I have seen much in my crusades against the Orks and am troubled by little these days.'

Regarding my stay, I am a little disappointed in the lack of a proper shrine aboard the ship, but things have been well. My quarters suit my needs and the crew have tried their best to help me find my way. I am not used to life aboard a ship, but I will adapt.' He pauses for a moment before adding, 'I hope to start holding regular early morning masses for those that can't make it to the mid-morning or evening masses. You know, for the sake of the crew.' Malachi glances around the table to make sure his hint wasn't too subtle...

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

'Does anyone know anything of this planet Egaria Omega or the Kasballica Mission? What could they be digging for on such a desolate rock? They say "treasure" but what is to be had on a planet with no inhabitants?'

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malachi mutters, 'How quaint. Are we to discuss the object of our next venture?'

He shifted his weight slightly. Malachi still wasn't completely comfortable around these men. Including Vorgen, these were people cut from a very different cloth than him. They are from Forge Worlds and Imperial Fleets, nothing like the untamed frontier on which Malachi was reared, a rock so full of jungle and lacking in resources it didn't even merit a name, just #2005BLG390LB.

Yet, here is the Heir of the Dynasty, lighting candles for ambiance...

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

It's my first ;P

Malachi half-walked, half-stumbed into the room and sat down at a chair near the end of the table by the door. It was difficult to see in the dim yellow light, especially when his pain wards activated momentarily, filling his vision with flashes of green. Blessed knees.

'Lord-Captain, should we contact one of the tech-adepts to see if they can fix the lighting in your quarters? There seems to be a power failure.'

Male Human Missionary Rank 1

Malachi heard the summons on his microbead, waiting to finish his prayer before rising from his knees. A proper Shrine to the God-Emperor would have kneelers to provide some comfort to his creaking joints. "No sacrifice to great for the Emperor," he muttered to himself.

The scarred Missionary adjusted his belt, smoothed his robes and started the long walk to the Captain's quarters. He didn't know the crew or the officers to well, save for Vorgen, whom had spent a few misbegotten years together outside of the Grace of the Emperor. This would be one of the first "official" meetings in which Malachi and all the officers were present with the Rogue Trader.

Master Marleno, I have in possession a relic of the Adeptus Ministorum, a chainsword of the utmost quality, possibly dating back to the Bellrath Crusade of M38. I would be honored if it was in your capable hands.

Since I acquired the Flame Blade, feel free to use either the good- or best-craftsmanship chainswords.

FYI, I'll be at gaming Mecca (GenCon) this week, so I won't be able to post from Wednesday-Sunday.

Nebel, before modifying it by successes our profit factor is 40. I'm not sure which figures your using. For example...

#1- TN was 50 before factoring in beating merchant by three successes (or having three less fails in this instance). Total TN56. No change though as the roll made it.

#2- TN40 Base. 17 under 64 is actually 6 successes (including Seeker of Lore success and the base success for hitting 64). VS 5 failures, a total of +22PF for a total TN of 62. No change though as the roll made it.

#3- TN20 Base. 8 successes on commerce (I think your not including Seeker of Lore and the basic success on each one) VS merchant 3 successes- total of +10 PF. TN30 total and you rolled a 31 which should be a fail.

#4- TN50 Base. 7 successes vs 4 failures. +22PF, for a total of TN72. Fails on that roll of a 77.

#5 (Pain Ward Implant)- TN60 Base. 7 successes vs 5 failures, total of +24PF for TN of 84- easily passes.

___________________________________________________________________________ _

Each success over the merchant adds +2PF, and the basic PF to begin with is 40. By my calculations, failed to acquire Subskin Armour and the Stormtrooper Carapace.

I find it easier to think in terms of "successes", as each success adds +2PF not just degrees of it.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. For some reason I was also assuming the base PF was 60, not 40.
