I feel the same way as Roryx, and I too think it is time to offer my notice. I've enjoyed conceptualizing Maeron, and I hope to see you all somewhere down the road in other ventures. Thank you rorek55 for trying to put this game together and herding us along. Hope you find more success moving your other games along.

Remember the readied action is on the nicely dressed man, if any of the three moves without something akin to "I surrender" from the baddies.

Maeron rushes to where he can scan the situation, and draws his bow. "Surrender, and return with us to the Order and explain what you are doing here!"
At Dalrin's call, Maeron charges forth, hoping it is not to late and he did not make a mistake in suggesting for scouting recon first. "Come! We must not let them bear the brunt of what they face alone!"
Maeron shakes his head as he recalls Dalrin's relatively lack of scouting abilities, from what he saw during training. "How's everyone feeling? We may need to act sooner than I anticipated." He gives his bow a final check, and prepares to charge down the stairway at any sign of commotion.
Maeron looks to the young elf sympathetically. "I don't know, Therie. We will find out, and make it right. Somehow." "You hear that? How far away do you think that sound is coming from?" Maeron considers how everyone is faring from the gruesome scene. "Roryx, Mikhail, any chance you can take a peek and see what we're up against down there? If there's no more than one or two, perhaps we can charge and subdue them before they know what happened." Maeron looks to Mikhail, wondering if he would be up to assisting Roryx in his condition. Perhaps if they wait for Narunith, there'll be time for Mikhail to recover...
As the dwarf sways backwards, Maeron steps ahead of the dwarf to shield him from possible danger that may pour forth. Satisfied the only danger is the assault of the smell for now, Maeron carefully moves forward into the other room.
Maeron gives Therie an approving look. "Excellent work!" And, as Narunith makes way for Roryx, the paladin moves a few steps behind the human and keeps his eyes on the unattended walls with his bow drawn.
Christmas party tomorrow. Well, technically it'll be today now. Playing in a RL PFS Saturday, too. Looking forward to a fun weekend :).
Why a Skald? I like the look of the Slayer, and may put one together for PFS for the next game I get into.
Once in the room, Maeron nods to himself as he sees the team competently go about searching the basement. The paladin calls on Sarenrae's sight and begins scanning the room for auras.
Maeron reassures Mistress Kodavi they will look into the issue, before continuing with the group carefully down to the basement.
As the group engages the mistress and the children, Maeron steps back, and calls forth Sarenrae's wisdom as he scans the room for signs of evil. "Please let us know if you think of anything else. Would you mind if we take a look in the basement as well as the surrounding areas?"
And I own enough of them to be able to cast a Dice Swarm spell.
Maeron stares as the door falls to the powerful dwarf's knock. He quickly steps in. "We apologize for the intrusion. Name's Maeron. Maeron Thurngood. We are here on behalf of Priestess Aia...of the Order to look into some possible concerns you have with the smells and sounds recently." Ignoring the scent as best he can, he glances over to the party to lead the mistress's eyes across the group. "We hope we may be of assistance. Can you tell us what you know of the sounds and odors? Perhaps when you start noticing it, where it seems the strongest, anything peculiar that happened around the time it started?" Then, looking down at the door he's now standing on, the elf quickly adds. "And of course we'll make sure this gets taken care of" Giving the mistress a chance to take all this in, the paladin steps back and whispers to Mikhail. "Do you know of any carpenters you trust who may be able to take care of this?"
Maeron steps forward at Dalrin's words and tone and contemplates scolding the disrespectful dwarf when...what did she just do?! Despite Aia's disarming wink, Maeron frowns at the confrontation. Even the head cleric's words, with all her charismatic force behind it, fails to mollify the unsettling discomfort within him. The paladin bows with civil respect but little more, and responds coldly. "I believe it's time we move on as well." He turns abruptly from the head cleric and moves to the door, before halting and waiting for the guide Rebecca to lead the way.
I don't suppose there is enough time for another eight hours of rest? (Well, I'll just have to use what spells I have prepared...) From reading about rest and arcane spells it sounds like you do not technically need to sleep 8 hours straight. An interruption adds to needed rest time, and you do need one uninterrupted hour right before preparation. Maeron pleads the case that Narunith should have enough rest to be able to refresh her spells.
Having taken the time to greet the dawn, as was his habit, Maeron returns to the meeting room with plenty of time for meditation and thought as the rest of the group gathered. The paladin bows to the head cleric as she greets the group. "There were indeed some differences of opinion as to whether it is better to approach in day or at night. Perhaps in their eagerness to help Dartaniel and Daniel did indeed make an initial foray to the orphanage. However, as I did not see where they headed off to, I cannot say for certain." Maeron considers the situation. "Perhaps we can leave word here for them to catch up to us at the orphanage, if we should miss them on their return. If they are still at the orphanage, then we will join them there. Whatever the case may be, I trust their ability to take care of themselves, and each other, if trouble should visit upon them." "Since you requested this investigation, and are in charge of the mission, will you be joining as as well?"
Ooh, hope you get some good rest and get healthy soon!
Unless something happens in the middle of the night, Maeron is ready for the break of dawn as well.
"Maeron. Maeron Thurngood." The elf notices, but chooses to overlook the apparent hesitancy. "Unsafe? No. Probably not. Narunith should be able to contain whatever Therie throws her way." Maeron chuckles at the image. "Both figurative and literally. Therie has a reputation of being...explosive. What we saw at the training was likely but a glimpse of what she can do when she unleashes herself." Maeron turns to Roryx and smiles. "I suspect that can be said of everyone on the team. Why, even of Dartaniel and Daniel. They've filled this team with some pretty extraordinary talents, I'd say." "Ah yes. The mission. The main observations relayed to us were strange sounds and smells. Given this is in the poor district not known for pleasant assaults on the senses, for them to notice it enough to call it strange says something." The elf knight ponders the mission momentarily, trying to regather his thoughts. "While no set course has been determined yet, I believe a word to someone in charge so that we do not disturb their activities is in order, and getting the layout and purposes of the various areas and how they connect with each other would be useful. Beyond that, I've seen enough of our teammates in action to believe we will find a competent course of action based on whatever's presented to us when we arrive at the orphanage."
The meeting went surprising well, thought Maeron in his sleep-dulled state. That is, until he was about to call on Daniel and get to know him a little better on the way back to the room, only to watch in dismay as he races off after his partner in crime. The paladin shakes his head as he mutters, "Now THAT is a friend." The smile fades as he realizes it's been years...decades, since he's seen... The paladin drives the thought from his head, and takes the time to bid his teammates good night. "I'm glad to see you're part of the team, Roryx. You were most impressive in your blending of the arcane with the martial arts during the training missions." He looks over at the elven pair as they depart to their room discussing...alchemical concoctions? "Perhaps I should sleep under my bed tonight."
Lol, apparently Maeron is having a greater effect on Narunith than she realizes :)
Maeron sits up at the loud knock, and wonders what could be urgent enough to warrant a visit in the night. Then, he remembers how several of his teammates had handled their alcohol at the festivities. Hastily he dons a more presentable outfit to answer the door, when he realizes the knock has stopped, and finds a slip of paper just inside the door. He studies the note, and takes a moment to let the candle flame burn it thoroughly before heading to the meeting room. So he is to be our captain...
Maeron smiles as he recognizes what is likely Daniel Rose's gear, and takes a moment to study the symbol. With a sigh, he settles into his own bed and pulls out his red trimmed silver token bearing the emblem of the Redthurn House. He rubs it in his hands as his thoughts flit from from Daniel, to Gwendir, to Narunith, which elicits another sigh from the weary paladin. Keep your head on task. There is much to do, tomorrow and beyond. Maeron sets the token atop his packed gear, beneath the chain shirt, and settles in for a night's rest.
I've got K(Religion) and K(Nobility), so I assume I make the roll with the best modifier (they're the same). Can one take 10 on knowledge checks?
Just equipped myself with a silver Redthurn token, reflecting my status in the Redthurn House. I priced it at 25gp, and will think on a design for the Thurngoods.
Maeron cannot help but shake his head at the eagerness displayed by some members of the team. He nods in agreement at Lady Silvertree's words, and confirms this agreement with his own suggestions. "A night visit may bring undue anxiety to the children and the workers, as Narunith wisely noted. I, too, recommend we rest and prepare, and begin our investigations at first light." "As enjoyable as the festivities have been, it would be best if I take my own advice and retire for the night." He bids good night to the rest of the members, and offers a parting smile to Narunith before returning to his room.
What is going on with the orphans? Dalrin shouts Maeron excuses himself from Narunith for a moment as he falls back into step with Dalrin the Slow. "As best I understand it, there appears to be signs of unusual sounds and smells at the orphanage. We need to uncover what may be causing it, and set it right to the best of our abilities." He nods at the dwarf and, having explained the situation as he understood it, hastens to catch up with Narunith and rejoin the party.
Don't worry Dalrin, we can always throw in a cart and take you with us to the orphanage. I may be strong enough to throw you as an improvised thrown weapon.
Maeron nods at the direction of the conversation, and smiles at Narunith as the meeting winds down. The paladin approaches Narunith as the worker begins to escort them out the room. "Thank you for agreeing to help the orphanage. Gwendir would be proud of you." He considers for a moment, before grinning and extending the conversation. "I have to admit, I am rather eager to return to the festivities. That duck looks rather tasty, and it would be a shame if someone managed to clean the platter of it before we are able to get another sampling of it."
Maeron smiles at Narunith in appreciation of her support for his mission recommendation. However, his smile becomes rather rigid when he observes the lady of Silvertree go along with the ill-mannered dwarf and his competing choice. The paladin coughs to regain his composure, and straightens to plead his case. "Ahem, I would rather agree that exercise keeps one fit for service, and that should never be discounted. However, may I suggest the orphanage is in town, and with expedient handling by such skilled members as our squad possess, we may yet return in time with a report and still be able to escort this, or other similar, prisoners." Maeron sighs as he continues. "I fear darkness dwells in all of us, and too many fall to its call these days."
The paladin studies the elf, and decides that the hint of blowing up an orphanage was but light-hearted jabber. Surely she has grown beyond the youthful recklessness by now... "I propose we look into the orphanage. Those serving the orphans may be ill-equipped to handle the possible problems, should the strangeness turn out to be signs of malice to come."
The Rose name is known to most Elves, and Maeron is glad to have met Daniel and finally be able to put a face to a name. Is Dart closer to The Nine (those listed in the recruitment thread) in authority and experience within the Order, or closer to us? Have we met any others of The Nine? Do you have an image of Mai Silvia? I found them helpful for getting first impressions. The Nine: The headmaster of the order is a paladin named Cedric Rose. He is an elf that fought as a foot soldier during the Great war those few centuries ago. He has proven to be a great leader, though during his reign as headmaster much of the evil that had been was considered eliminated. bar the sparse reports of the odd cult he spends most of his time politicizing amidst the nobles and keeping order and peace within the kingdom.
Ryuu Rosewell- Master of arms, oversees all trainees during there training and forsees the ending trail for them to become true knights of the order when there time arrives. 6'2", happy and excitable, comes off as very carefree, but has a serious side. Mai Silvia- head knight of the Pegasus knights, (knights in Silver). reserved but kind. half elf. 5'10", Arrak Ravenmore- Ranger, lives out in the forest outside Spero, oversees all who train in ranged combat. Also is the head of the information division and oversees all reports from the informants throughout the kingdom. Friendly, but harsh. Extremely blunt with his thoughts. Aia Youichi- Head cleric of Sarenrea, oversees most clerics within the order as well as handling most missions to give aid to the people. Kind, Believes violence is wrong and believes that noone is beyond redemption. extremely diplomatic Daniel Rose- Son of the headmaster, a paladin in training. Strongheaded, good of heart, but prone to.. accidents. Nathan Rellin- Order Archmage, oversees all training of those dabbling in the arcane. Does all sorts of odd jobs for the Headmaster as well. Eccentric and sharp, sometimes seems a world away. disappears for days at a time. Synthia Aris- Sorcerer, holds no real position in the order, but helps the odd few individuals with innate power like her when and if she can. Does odd things and keeps the main temple tidy. Quiet and shy to most, but outgoing and friendly to those she knows. Ivan Ironmug- Dwarven warrior and old friend of the Headmaster. Designed most of the stonework of the Headquarters and oversees most training and events with Ryuu, brings quite a loud humor with him wherever he goes. Also will aid others in learning the arts of smithing and crafting. Even sometimes attempts to show recruits the proper dwarf way of "usin' yer ead'"
However, legend has it the 42 kills included an Oliphaunt. The mass of that thing alone must have been worth at least 3 kills. A little something to (hopefully) brighten your day
Trying to build some initial (mis)conceptions about the elven party members: Narunith Silvertree
Maeron Thurngood escorted his mother Behl to represent his house at the Silvertree wedding that joined Mornith and Landir. While Maeron was most excited about the prospect of meeting and speaking with Gwendir, at his mother's urging he was polite enough to introduce himself to Narunith. She may very well not have remembered him in the midst of the countless greetings that she must have endured that day. Sadly, it appears a lady by the name of Candwen took about all of Gwendir's attention, even when he were not around her. Narunith seemed pleasant enough, and that blue dress did plenty to accentuate her beauty. However, there were rumors about Narunith and her wild side. Although none of it were substantiated, and it is most difficult to think of a sibling of Gwendir behaving in such manners, still... Therie Gorget
Ok, any other elves? Dalrin, Rockjaw, Mikhail, got no history with them. Maeron is looking forward to working with you all. By the way, Rockjaw, what's with the hate on the elves? Is there some history that would've made the elven lore? With the proper elven slant inserted, of course :P
I've already skimmed it once, and loved what I read. Be careful, as Maeron needs a mate. Not sure he can handle you, though, and there is this cleric in the Order... You're wizard 3, by the way :)
I've made the changes and took up the Divine Hunter archetype. Going to read up on all the elves now to see what false rumors and gossips Maeron knows about you all :).
