GM I didn't update jack's HP in the tag line from from the short rest (kinda forgot about it sorry, and I wasn't totally sure how the rules for that work). I think he healed 17 hp from the short rest so he should be on 21 hp now. "Errrkk!" Jack tries to curse the devil fish but nothing but splutter comes out. Dropping the whip he tries to gut it with his sword but he just doesn't have the reach the thing is holding him at tentacle's length!

Short Rest Healing: I'm kind of hazy about how this works, because the rules say the following.
Short Rest A character can spend one or more Hit Dice at the end of a short rest, up to the character’s maximum number of Hit Dice, which is equal to the character's level. For each Hit Die spent in this way, the player rolls the die and adds the character’s Constitution modifier to it. The character regains hit points equal to the total. The player can decide to spend an additional Hit Die after each roll. So Jack has 3 HD to spend - when does that refresh? A long rest?
Hit die 1: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

I'm pretty sure it's a bad idea for him to jump. Likely needs a very good acrobatics roll followed by swim rolls. But that splits the party with Jack likely in combat. He still might do it anyway! #YOLO
