Murder's Mark

Thanks, fixed the original post as well. You know, I've been on forums with BBC code for... 15ish years at this point. I should know it like breathing at this point.

Murder's Mark

Chronicles here

I will put the campaign to "inactive" later this week, so that way people have time to easily react to the end of the campaign, leave any easter eggs or do anything else they wish to do :)

Murder's Mark

Okay, I am finishing up chronicle sheets. I'll post them later today as we let the ink dry on this one!

Thank you all for playing. I had a blast running it (and I've learned a lot as well - having HMM as a mentor is great). Part of what I've learned from HMM is to have people aware easter eggs by saying something or someone that really made this game shine for them.

As a note, I'm going to be taking a PbP gming break for a while. Toward the end of this, I realized that I'm exhausted. I've got a lot going on in my personal life, and I've been treating PbPs as something on the side that don't really take extra time, which is the opposite of true. So, I'm giving myself time to rest.

Murder's Mark

The sheriff comes quickly once sent for; she arrives red-faced and breathing heavily, clearly having run at least part of the way.

"Well," she says with a jab of her boot at Mistress Robella's unmoving form, this is interesting. I'll have my officers do a thorough search of the place. You wait here, and I'll call you when we're ready for you."

She seats you in the back room of the curiosity shop, claiming it to be the "only part of this place that isn't an active crime scene or filled with bodies". The wait is agonizingly slow, and you do see several officers leave through the trap door with a pair of skulks. Two battered-looking dwarves are also escorted out, but are not under arrest; they're seated with you and given tea while the officers clear the basement. They sit in shock and offer little other than their names, Braengar and Pietros Gearwright.

After a few hours, Sheriff Feldane arrives and smiles.

"Well, you were right. This place is a trove of information. Well, let's go through it piece by piece. First of all, it seems like the basement was around from before the guild moved in. It's more sophisticated in construction than the buildings up here."

"It's clear that the guild was aware of you as well. We found this," she pushes forward a pair of documents. One is a map of the town, with prominent houses and businesses marked on it. There's sketches of Archivin Walder's path home from the circus, ideas on where the string up Filton Legg's body, and notes on how to use pickpockets to cause a distraction at the carnival. The other parchment is a list, detailing each of you and your physical appearance. Pazacku's name is circled in red ink and with the word "target" scrawled next to it.

"We also found a pair of brothers who claim that they were travelling from Magnimar to Janderhoff when they were attacked by lake pirates. They claimed they tried to ask to be ransomed - their family own some sort of important business - but had been down there for some unknown length of time. They want to thank you personally for their rescue, once they've recovered."

"Finally, we found that this guild is the source of our shiver problem in town. They've got a stockpile of smuggled goods and drugs in there. We'll be returning the stolen property to Walder's widow and any one else the goods belong to. However, since we can't exactly pay you, anything unclaimed is yours."

"I can't thank you enough. Without this, well, this town would've been in deep trouble. Thank you, friends. Ilsurian has learned a lesson from you about believing in appearances."

With the she places the documents in a folder, smiles and says, "But there's a carnival to enjoy. You should relax some after all of this!"

The Umbra Carnival has been exonerated, and the crowds return to it, causing most of the performances to sell out. Ika and Almara Delisen are grateful for your work with the carnival. They provide the promised payout and offers you the chance to join the circus and to travel the world with them.

After some time to recover, the Gearwrigth brothers come by to offer you a gift; a clockwork creature that their family made and the guild had stolen. They explain that it serves as a sentry. In addition, they offer you the possibility of coming to work with their family as a private security and investigation force.

As much as there is to celebrate with the end of the string of murders, there is equally as much to mourn. The Braeton children find a foster home after a few days, but it is clear that they are traumatized. Sister Woodmere's absence is noted, and advertisements go out for a replacement cleric for the town, though the innkeeper says, "It'll be hard to find a kindhearted soul like her. Real pity she died. I'm going to miss her." A memorial service for the victims is held, with promises of it being an annual event.

Murder's Mark

If you want to do that, I'll be happy to let you know what evidence is down there via a briefing from the sheriff post-investigation, or you can get the room-by-room tour yourself.

Murder's Mark

"I - I don't know much about the murders. That was higher-up stuff. Mistress Robella kept telling me that I shouldn't stick my nose in it and that I should let the adults do their work. They've got a couple skulks down in the basement and they've been selling shiver, but that's about all I know. If you want to get to the bottom of it, I'd look in the tunnels below."

He rubs his wrist and says, "Thank you, mister. I'll be good for my ma. Promise."

Murder's Mark

"If I tell you what's down there, will you let me go? I can't stand looking at my ma's face when she hears I got brought it." The man, who on closer inspection is more of a boy in his late teens, looks at Pazacku with desperation.

Murder's Mark

The blob shudders and falls apart under Andoliesa's assault. The warehouse worker, cornered and afraid, throws his bow down and drops to his knees.

"Don't kill me, please. I was just trying to get enough money for Ma."

A few tears trickle down his cheeks.

We are out of initiative! You have a man who's surrendered and several other unconscious people lying around. There is more to discover in the tunnels underneath, but this has been the final combat!

Murder's Mark

Let's say you can get up the ladder after a single move action; it seems reasonable enough for me. The man also have a shortbow in hand and a shortsword at his waste. The man will respond on his turn.

Murder's Mark

Sounds good!

Rogue 3 and Swarm
Pazacku, Takashi, Dekarin, Chack and Andoleisa - You're up!

Murder's Mark

Head's up, the red square on the map is the swarm.

Murder's Mark

Dekarin's slash sends the man falling to the ground.

Bleep bloop botting Chack

Chack rounds the corner and sees the strange alchemical ooze and the man on the balcony. He pulls out his bow and says, "I don't like the look of that thing!"

Rogue 3 and Swarm
Pazacku, Takashi, Dekarin, Chack and Andoleisa - You're up!

The slime begins to move forward, sliding over the ground and leaving a slick trail in its wake. Its stops just before reaching Andoliesa.

Note: this is a tiny ooze swarm, so you can damage it weapons. It will simply only take half damage.

The final thug, still on the catwalk overheard, pulls a shortbow and sends at shot at Dekarin. "You - you stay away now, you hear?" he stammers as the shot clinks off of Dekarin's armor.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
1d6 ⇒ 5

The ladder on the map on the east end of the warehouse leads up to the catwalk, if you want to get up there.

Murder's Mark

Pazacku misses!

Shipping and Receiving - Round 3

Rogue 2 and Rogue 3
Pazacku, Takashi, Dekarin, Chack and Andoleisa - You're up!

Andoleisa claws hit once and her bite hits as well. The thug is still standing but deeply injured.

Murder's Mark

I thought that I posted before leaving for the weekend. Sorry everyone for the late update!

Murder's Mark

Rogue 2 and Rogue 3
Pazacku, Takashi, Dekarin, Chack and Andoleisa - You're up!

As Andoliesa flutters forward and slashes the thug, Chack follows up with his own claws. Between the two of them the thug falls.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
1d6 ⇒ 6

The rogue on the catwalk says "I guess I've got to, then," and kicks a jar off the side. The ceramic smashes on the floor below and a strange, congealed mass of some sort of acid spreads across the floor, undulating softly.

Murder's Mark

Today is going to be busy on my end. My next update will be after 5 PM EST.

Murder's Mark

Dekarin goes in swinging and strikes the man down with a single blow.

Andoliesa, do you want to take the opportunity to attack?

Murder's Mark

It is! It's the man who said "Let's get them cornered in here".

Sounds good, Dekarin! After this round, I'm going to have Rogue 1 delay so that way the party all acts together. I'll mention it again when the rogues go again!

Chack's turn!

Murder's Mark

Update coming this afternoon; I have to go run Ageless Ambitions in person.

Murder's Mark

Shipping and Receiving - Round 1

Rogue 2 and Ferdis
Pazacku
Rogue 1
Takashi, Dekarin and Andoleisa - You're up!
Rogue 3 and Bryten

Pazacku moves in to strike the man in blue clothing, but the man dodges out of the way.

The interior door swings open. Beyond the office, a room filled with filing cabinets opens with another door set into the northern wall.

Beyond that second door, a large unfinished room opens. A wooden frame stands that seems like it could housed two separate floors but is instead open to the roof like a barn. Sliding bay doors stand to the south, where a serviceable wagon is parked. Across the center of the warehouse, a catwalk hangs fifteen feet off of the ground. Heavy items can be pulled up to the catwalk with ropes and a block and tackle. In the northeast and southwest corners, rooms be been framed in and walls erected. Shelving lines most of the wall, and crates and boxes are stacked in many places on the main floor.

In all, you see five workers; the man in the office (blue smiley), the man in the filing room (red heart), and three workers in the warehouse (squares).

Murder's Mark

Forgot to say: Pazacku's up.

Murder's Mark

"Ohm" he tuts his teeth slightly. "Well. The gig is up, I guess."

He stands from the desk, throws open a door and screams, "We've got company, boys!"

Murder's Mark

Hey everyone!

What's up? We're in the home stretch for the module :) Let me know if there's something keeping you from posting or something I can do to help you all out.

Note: if you want to just SWAT team this whole deal, go on ahead.

Murder's Mark

Okay, pick a door or a ladder. If no one posts by this evening, the official Railroad Maintenance Service (tm) will deposit you in the warehouse.

Murder's Mark

Outside the door, a tunnel spreads in a solid line. Doors stand shut to across the hall and to your right. Further down the tunnel to your left is the ladder.

Murder's Mark

The man laughs in fear and says, "Uh, you go through this door and then climb the ladder up. The rest of the crew is in the warehouse." He pauses for a moment before adding, Don't tell the rest of the gang that I told you that.

Murder's Mark

Pazacku's claws tear at the other thug's face, damaging his eyes.

The thug immediately drops to his knees and says, "Enough, enough. I surrender! I surrender!"

What would you like to do?

Murder's Mark

Powerpuff girls announcer voice: And thus, the way was cleared, thanks to the bloodragerpuff bird.

Murder's Mark

Bleep bloop botting Dearkin commences.

Dekarin stands up and prepares his greatsword for a deadly blow. As he does so, the thug takes a swing with her own sword.

AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

However, he manages to duck beneath the sword's blade and returns with a slash to her side. The greatsword slices easily through her flesh, leaving her crumbled on the ground and dying.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
2d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 2) + 12 = 18

Way cleared!

Murder's Mark

Sounds like we're waiting for Dekarin to start clearing the way with his sword.

Murder's Mark

Oooof, that is a recipe for illness!

Murder's Mark

Okay, finally passed my fort saves! I'm feeling semi-human again.

The Curiosity Shop - Round Four

Helpers
Pazacku, Chack [3/10], Dekarin, Takashi [napping], Andoliesa - You're Up!

As the pit fills with tengu, the two thugs look at each other warily. One steps back, pulls out a vial and throws it into the ten foot by ten foot pit. All of the tengu, however, resist the poison.

The other thug says, "Well, crap" before drawing a short sword and attempting to stab Dekarin. However, he only hits the stone wall with a long clank.

Fort Saves all around!

Dekarin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Pazacku: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Andoliesa: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Murder's Mark

Concrud is real. Though, in this case, it was the result of my roommate running while sick - I came out of Harsk-keep (our all Harsk bonekeep) with no mechanical diseases but a meatspace disease :P

Murder's Mark

Welcome, welcome!

I've been struggling to keep up with posts over the weekend between my store con and failing a fort save v concrud :( I'm sleeping now but will update ASAP.

Murder's Mark

Yep, that works for me.

Helpers
Pazacku, Chack [-4?/10], Dekarin, Takashi [napping], Andoliesa

Dekarin sees a door open next to him with two very confused and surprised looking thugs holding swords. They stare for a beat at the heavily armored bird lying on their former boss declaring victory before one of the says, "Aww, crap, they killed her."

Takashi is unconscious on the ground, mumbling in his sleep.

Murder's Mark

Yeah, I'll allow it. You can use your wings to guide yourself down. It'll be 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 damage. Go ahead and describe how this happens; that's enough damage to knock her out.

Murder's Mark

I'd say you'd take the charge bonuses/penalties to jump on her, and then have to make an acrobatics check to reduce falling damage and not end up prone.

Murder's Mark

Have a good anniversary! I'll be sure to keep Pazacku's code in mind if I need to bot.

The Curiosity Shop - Round Three

Helpers
Pazacku, Chack [-1/10], Dekarin
Mistress Robella
Takashi [napping], Andoliesa

Pazacku manages to tear at her throat, but she turns at the last minute to avoid the worst of the damage.

Bleep bloop botting Andoliesa

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Mistress Robella slides out of Andoliesa's bite at the last moment, leaving her beak crushing empty air.

Seeing Chack down, she rushes over and touches him with her wing. "Grandmother Crow, heal my flock." Spending a point of fervor to heal.

Chack heals 1d6 ⇒ 3

Down the pit, a door scrapes open and a brief conversation floats up.

"What's going on?"
"Exciting morning stroll. What does this look like?"
"Oh. OH."
"Good to know you have half your wits left."

Murder's Mark

Dekarin goes for the swing... and misses. Polite clapping in the background.

Murder's Mark

Chack is unconscious on the ground, so I'll bot him with that con check.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 Huh, are his feathers still on fire? Looks like it.

The Curiosity Shop - Round Two

Pazacku, Chack [-4/10], Dekarin
Mistress Robella
Takashi [napping], Andoliesa - You're Up

Mistress Robella takes a leap over the counter, attempting to weave away from cluster of birds trying to peck her eyes out. However, her foot catches and she provokes an AoO from Pazacku, Andoliesa and Dekarin.

If she doesn't die from the AoOs...

She makes her way back to the front door and jumps down the pit. You hear a thump at the bottom of the pit and a few choice words.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Murder's Mark

Yep! You got out of the pit. You had to shimmy up the corner, but you did it.

Takashi:
As you sleep, your body is bound below and left in the same room. Give me a second Fortitude save to determine how long you will be asleep for.

Murder's Mark

Dekarin is in a cloud of poisonous gas with Takashi asleep at his feet. You still have your actions left. You are in the bottom left corner of the map (at the bottom of a twenty-foot pit).

The Curiosity Shop - Round One

Helpers
Pazacku, Chack, Dekarin
Mistress Robella
Takashi, Andoliesa - You're Up!

The woman gives a laugh and attempts to tumble past Chack's grasp. She slides easily away from him before launching herself over the counter and ending up between two of the display cases.

She draws a small flask from her belt and launches it at Chack. It lands squarely on his shoulder before exploding in a roar of fire dealing 13 points of fire damage.

1d20 ⇒ 20
1d20 ⇒ 19
2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 3 + 1 = 13

Oh dear.

Murder's Mark

Chack slashes at the woman but she easily dodges.

Dekarin, when you start your turn, you will need to to make a Fort Save (DC 13) or fall asleep from the poison.

Murder's Mark

Right, the enemy. The enemy you are fighting. The one you can see is on the map now.
