Hey guys, I'm VERY sorry to say so, but I need to bow out of this game. My work recently got much more demanding, and I do not have much spare time anymore. Moreover, I love roleplaying games, and it's a bummer when other players ignore your attempts of interactions. What's the point of playing a PbP game if it's just about declaring actions, attacking, and opening doors? We had a very great time together, but I feel like the game has somehow worsened during the course of the last yet. The GM is the only one among us (myself included) who keeps a high quality in his posts. As for us, we usually just write single-line posts, ignore interaction attempts from the others and generally only post frequently when in combat. What I'm trying to say is that since I need to slim the amount of my PbP games due to work (otherwise I would stay) I'm choosing to bow out of this particular game because I feel like I'm not so committed to it due to a lack of roleplaying and inter-players interactions. Sometimes I was the one to blame for that, other times I tried to start interactions, but I got ignored. That I only joined the party halfway through the campaign certainly doesn't help.

I wish you luck and fun on this adventure. It's been great to share some really fun moments with you all. My thanks also to the GM, whose commitment and devotion to the game were the main reasons which kept me from bowing out of the game before now. This is a solid game, which goes on from more than a year, and it's hard to leave it, but I'm sure you'll find someone who enjoys this kind of roleplaying style more than I do and hence adapt to the flow of the game better than I would ever do.

Lucien waits for his companions to organize the priests' belongings. "Don't be so skeptic, Sebastian. They probably used those potions to actually heal themselves". The paladin takes 2 potions.

Lucien starts to feel a little tired and weary, but does not give up. That negative energy filling his body only made him angrier. Right after Iolana casts her fire spell, Lucien darts to her and positions himself in front of the girl in order to protect her from the priests' retaliation. "Take this!"

"Quick! We must focus on the priests! Sebastian, I leave the skeletons to you!" Aware of making himself vulnerable to the skeletons' attacks, Lucien moves forward and tries to attack one of the priests.

Keeping his back against the wall, Luciens shouts encouraging words to his allies. “Come on, let’s show them who we are!” Immediately after, he slashes with his greatsword at one of the Queen’s physicians, the one in front of him.

Immediately reacting to the danger, Lucien steps into the room. "Watch out!", he shouts to Iolana and Ayako behind him while he draws his greatsword and positions himself next to Sebastian. "Agreed!" he says to Iolana, quickly turning toward her to blink at the girl. "Let's show them what we're capable of, Seb!"

Lucien then tries to bring his greatsword down on the priest in front of him.

Luciens grits his teeth, the scyte delving a deep wound in his flesh. "Dammit! They even trapped this place!"

The paladin shakes his head, and asks Ayako for healing. "If we have a few charges from the wand to spare, I could use some healing, Ayako". Otherwise, Lucien will heal himself resorting to the power of Abadar.

"There's no point in turning back, Iolana. The trap could reset soon. I believe we should press forward", says the paladin.

"Well, thank you very much then. I promise I'll wake you up again when I'll return victorious so that you won't miss the show. Now, goodnight!" Using the flat side of his blade, Lucien puts the physician to rest again.

"Well, apparently we should head towards the center of the complex. Anyway, we have no way to tell which way would be the fastest one to that Lady Andaisin. I suggest we open the double doors first."

If no one stops him, Lucien takes all the time needed in order to check the doors for traps, and if he does not find any, he tries to open them.

Lucien smirks at Sebastian, and keeps gazing upon the physician. "Very well, you told us much. We're not going to survive anyway, isn't it? Why don't you tell us more about this Lady Andaisin then? Judging from your words, she seems to be a priestess of Urgathoa, but I doubt she can be a match for us. We're just too strong...What powers could she use to defeat us? I think we're going to prevail, after all."

"Then do it, Ayako. Thank you", says Lucien with a smile.

"Thanks for the healing, Ayako", says Lucien with a smile turning to his ally. The paladin then nods at Sebastian. "Actually I'm asking myself the same question. Perhaps one of the physicians could tell us more about this place, if we heal him...I believe we should, indeed. No sense in throwing ourselves into danger so blindly."

If no one heals the physician, Lucien does so himself, choosing the less injured one, tying him up with a rope and then giving him a touch of his healing hands.

Once the physician comes back to his senses, Lucien squats in front of him, removing his mask and trying to take on a reassuring expression. "Good morning, my friend", says the paladin with a smile, giving the man the time to recover from his unconsciousness. "I couldn't help but notice the lurid murals on these walls. Could you explain me what they mean, apart from the obvious reading that you hope to make Korvosa succumb to blood veil? Who are those skeletons? And the scythe-wielding ones? Who are them? Oh, sorry if I didn't say it earlier. If you cooperate, you'll get a reward, of course. You'll stay alive, unlike your fellow physicians..."

Lucien stands up, and waits for an answer. "Also, what is this place? What is it's purpose? An underground complex below an hospice...It sounds suspicious, don't you think?"

"Come on, that's half the battle!" Lucien musters his resolution and channels it into his words. "Let one of them alive. They MUST tell us what is this place!" Lucien parries a few attacks with elegance as he spins and tries to hit another phyician with his greatsword.

Lucien finds himself surrounded in the blink of an eye, and does his best to stay on his place despite the physicians' efforts. He swings his greatsword a few times, taking advantage of the attempt to bull rush him.

"Tsk, more physicians. I wonder what this place is...", he thinks aloud as he carefully assess the sitation. Lucien decides to attack the physician he had already wounded first. "Fools! Why are you attacking us?"

After swinging his sword with deadly precision, Lucien steps back in order to prevent the physicians from flanking him. "Ayako, if you can please hold your position!"

Lucien enters the room and stares wide-eyed at the lugubrious murals. "We must prevent this" he says to himself as well as to his allies. With his fists clenched, Lucien gives a quick look at the three wooden doors. "Let's split up and listen if there's some noise coming from behind the doors. I'll check the double doors to the east".

Perception check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

If no sounds are coming from the doors, Lucien will approach his allies. "Let's start with the southern door. Anyone is able to check it for traps before I open it?"

If no one is able to search the door for traps, Lucien will take all the time needed in order to ensure that the door isn't trapped.

If the door is locked, Lucien will try to pry it open, trying several times if needed and asking Sebastian to help him if he keeps failing.

Lucien puts a gloved hand on his companion's shoulder. "Did you see the blindness in their judgment? Did you see how they reacted to my request of assistance? They started it. We were just much stronger than them."

Leaving Sebastian with his thoughts, Lucien follows the others in the back room. After a thorough research of the loading bay, Lucien shakes his head. "Exotic animals and Vudran clothes...This absolutely reeks of Arkonas. Any of you ladies interested in these fine clothes?"

Lucien then nods to Iolana. "Down the lift it is, then. Follow me", he says as he moves toward the lift.

Lucien groans as the arrow lodges in his leg, but he grits his teeth and keeps moving. Running on the catwalks and hoping they hold, the paladin reaches the gray maiden with the bow. "Now, to the two of us"

"Hold on, I'm coming!", shouts Lucien to Sebastian, moving as fast as his armor allows him toward the stairs leading to the catwalk. This is not over yet. I want to see through this. Why do they fight with such a blind determination? Why they won't listen? There's something suspicious in their unflinching obedience!

Lucien shakes his head and roars. "How can you be so blind? These people are dying!" The paladin draws his greatsword and prepares to attack. "Sorry girls, you're right. I'll never learn. But now..."

Lucien swings his greatsword with unmatchable fury.

"They will learn what it means to make me angry!"

As he leads his group in the next room, Lucien quietly whispers a prayer to The Master of the First Vault. "Holy Father, please watch over me as I try to protect my city. You know my vow, and you can see through my heart. Please allow me to fight disease and corruption as I swore without having to kill any innocent on my path of justice."

Lucien casts honeyed tongue. He can roll two dice each time he makes a Diplomacy check to change a creature's attitude, taking the highest roll.

When the he sees the Gray Maiden, Lucien stops as naturally as he can and starts walking toward the woman slowly. "Although I cannot see your eyes, I know you fight for what you deem just."

Lucien smiles behind his mask and ensues. "We do that too. And trust me, we know what it feels like to have to obey orders you don't agree with. I lost my bride-to-be and my daughter to a disease. From that day on, I swore I would give my own life to protect the only family I have left. Please let us through. We just want to help this city, you have to believe me. Your comrade in arms is not far from here, next to the lift."

"Oh, and before we go...Ayako, could you please stabilize the woman we just fought? I know she's acted as an enemy to us, but she was only fulfilling her duty, wrong as it may be."

"Let's keep going. We should try and maintain our cover as long as possible. Come on, follow me" Lucien leads the party in the next room.

"There's always an option!" Lucien's voice is broken. Having to hit such a wretched woman makes him hesitant. Eventually, though, the paladin finds the motives he needs in himself. Queen or not...I've sworn to fight against disease and corruption...And here in front of me I've got someone who's trying to protect both!

Lucien grins and brings down his greatsword on the maiden.

"And you even ask?" Lucien barks to Ayako as the maiden approaches. "We fight!" The paladin gives a knowing look to Sebastian. "We can't let them down." Then Lucien positions himself into a good spot to ambush the maiden and readies his greatsword.

Seeing his previous idea met with success, Lucien pulls out a flask of acid from beneath his clothes and throws it at the panicking physicians. "Ayako, get away from there!"

Trying to keep playing the part of the physician, he pulls out a flask of acid from his doctor’s outfit and tosses it in the lift where the physicians are squeezing.

Provided Ssebastian has a decent Bluff score, he could talk the physician into lead the way or just go first. If we hear this, we could hide somewhere and ambush the Physician when no one can hear us. Just my 2 cents.

I'm kinda confused about what's going on here. Simply assume Lucien is looking at the button together with the party.

"Go, Seb" reassuringly says Lucien with a confident smile to his friend as he slowly puts the unconscious body on the ground. He draws his greatsword immediately thereafter. To his allies, he hunches his shoulders. "Better we stand ready."

"Good find, Iolana" says Lucien with a smile. "We should definitely investigate the matter as soon as we have enough time".

The paladin scratches his head as he thinks about the notes. "Don't you think it's quite interesting that the man we're looking for is himself a Varisian? Perhaps Doctor Dauvaulus was studying him and his racial immunity?"

His mind claimed to more urgent concerns, Lucien quickly scans his surroundings. "Let's go on. I suppose we're going to find our answers as we explore this place. I vote against the balconies though" says Lucien with a smile, gesturing to his heavy armor. "Perhaps we can use that cargo lifter over there?"

As soon as the maidens come into the room, Lucien swings his greatsword at the closest one, trying to be as focused as he can in order not to miss the advantage of attacking while his enemies are unaware of the danger.

Gritting his teeth in tension, Lucien swings his greatsword again at one of the maidens, possibly the less injured one. Let's do this quickly.

Lucien sighs. "Hmpf. More bloodshed. Have it your way then" he says keeping his hand on his greatsword and preparing for the fight.

Lucien helps Sebastian in carrying the doctor after donning a doctor's costume. He takes all of the remaining masks from the physicians. I'll have them destroyed as soon as possible, he says to himself as he makes a mental note not to destroy the mask before using them as evidences. "What's the plan with the guards outside? They won't just let us walk away with this unconscious body", he says nodding to the doctor's body.

Lucien keeps attacking the doctor, fueled by a furious anger. "You won't get away with that!" he says as he tries to bring down his greatsword on the doctor. The paladin doesn't seem to be very focused on the combat, though, perhaps blinded by his own rage, and his attack is slower and much more predictable then he wanted to.

Lucien can barely hold the rage within his heart as the doctor spits venom on how disease could help the city. "Vile bastard!" he hisses through his teeth. "You...You won't get away with that, I swart on the Holy Father!" With his fist clenched, Lucien draws his greatsword. A spark of fiery rage fills his blue eyes. He lost a bethroted and a daughter to disease.

As soon as he can, Lucien launches himself at the doctor with his greatsword, trying to sever the man's head with a single, powerful blow.

Lucien immediately steps to Sebastian's side, his hand on the greatsword behind his back. The paladin feels suffocating behind that strange mask belonging to the Queen's Physicians he's wearing as a part of the plan.

One can only ready an action after initiative is rolled, isn't it? If I'm wrong, then Lucien will draw his sword and ready an attack against the doctor if he does anything potentially harmful to the party or tries to call for help.

"Seems like a good plan, Ayako. Although I don't like the idea of being so deceptive, I can see no alternative. Let's do this", comments Lucien as his eyes are still fixed upon the man whose life he spared. Will he deserve that?

Lucien then starts to wear the Queen's Physicians clothes, along with their mask. The process makes him nervous, although he's a little relieved by the fact that those clothes won't touch his skin, but only his armor, which he's wearing beneath them.

Lucien grits his teeth. It's time!

Quick as a shadow slithering into the darkness, although he's not used to it at all, Lucien moves in front of one of the two Queen's Physicians still alive. The paladin silently draws his trusty greatsword as he moves toward his foe, then takes in a deep breath. Abadar, please forgive me. I'm not acting honorably by attacking these men while they cannot see me, but there are human lives at stake here.

With a strong and violent descending blow, Lucien tries to overcome his inner reluctance. He brings down his greatsword with all of his strenght on the Queen's Physician, shivering imperceptibly as he does so. Am I... Without even realizing it, before his sword can hit the man in front of him, something inside the paladin leads him to slightly turn his wrist. Instead of the sword's blade, Lucien uses the flat part of the weapon to hit his target, although he perfectly knows that the hesitation bringing him to have mercy could easily make his attack miss and put his allies in danger.

Lucien tries to keep himself calm, while the horrific pictures in his mind torment him as he sees his wife dying again and again to her disease. I MUST find a solution. I was not able to save her...Now I cannot fail again!

Lucien walks as slowly as he can in order not to produce any noise that could create some suspects.

Once outside, Lucien walks at Sebastian's side, listening thoughtfully to his words, his face clearly concerned as his friend's. "I was just asking myself the same question, Sebastian..."

Lucien looks up at the sky, vainly hoping to find the answers he's looking for in the bizarre forms of the clouds above his head as he was used to do when he was only a child. "Our city is dying...", whispers the paladin with a face full of sorrow.

"Ayako, Iolana. You two have better memory than me for sure. There's something we can do while we wait for the situation at the Hospice to change and maybe allow us to act?"

Well, this is cutting it close..., mentally sighs Lucien while his exterior appearance does not betray any sign of nervousness.

"Indeed we have a lot of work to do, Sebastian", says the paladin as he puts a reassuring hand on his friend's sholder, "Maybe we should leave as they say".
