Lianth notes the increasing gloom, and while Roarke pads through the darkness fearlessly, she is beginning to feel uncertain as to each step, "Alizar, we lack your keen elven senses. Could I borrow one of your torches, to light our way?"

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Not comfortable with the portents of the day; the slaughtered animals, the risen dead, Lianth 'hmphs' softly at the sight of the three brooms and saddle-bags, thinking to herself, Looks like I'm not the only witch here...

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Roarke is puzzled that the wound he was licking at has almost vanished. He's been healed before, but Lianth was touching him when that happened, and he's wondering how she snuck up on him...

Lianth quietly thanks Drosk, smiling at the antics of the confused wolf.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Noting that Senmont and Roarke have both taken three hits, but that Senmont is far more effective, Lianth silently asks the wolf to forgive her, and steps forward to adminster a healing touch to Senmont's shoulder, careful to keep him between herself and the last standing vestige.

cure light wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Wow. The nature spirits did not approve of healing the man before the wolf... Good thing we have Drosk on auto-pilot!

The Exchange

Lianth directs Roarke to withdraw a step, amd drops her longbow, before drawing her club and then steps forward to take his place, taking a single swing at the skeleton.

club attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Int check 1d20 ⇒ 5

Unfamiliar with the nature of the undead, and rattled by their macabre appearance and unnatural presence, Lianth fails to realize how ineffective her arrows are going to be, even if they find a mark, and continues firing, while attempting again to 'push' Roarke into more aggressively fighting these abominations, and not merely reacting to their attacks upon her person.

For his part, Roarke is having none of it.

The Exchange

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Lianth orders Roarke to attack the skeleton to the right of Alizer, only to discover that standard animal training does not suffice to get an animal to attack something as unnatural as an undead, forcing her to reinforce her command.

Handle Animal, DC 25 to 'push' Roarke, +4 bonus from Link counted in 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Roarke refuses, and remains at her side, growling. He'll defend her if she's attacked, but refuses to approach the unnatural creatures.

She limbers up her bow and fires a single arrow at the same skeleton (to the right of Alizer), hoping to get the arrow off before the skeleton is in melee.

Arrow, not counting -4 for in melee. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth readies her longbow and follows the elf as he moves forward.

Roarke moves at her side, sniffing around, but not for anything specific. Not tracking, just being a dog.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth attempts to assist with Anwylia's expert tracking, but finds she has little to offer that the other woman hasn't already noted.

Aid Other on Survival, DC 10 to add +2 to her roll above 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Very true. This is quite wasteful, and I note that they clearly have some means of getting them here that does not involve that chasm we tumbled down... Lianth says, noting that these aren't exactly mountain goats.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Sorry to hear about your layoff! I'm just getting into a new job at the end of the month, and not having had a paycheck for awhile, I feel like I've spent the first one a dozen times already in my head... I'm ready to continue, or if it would be more convenient for you until you get back on top of things IRL, to call it.

The Exchange

The bones are ancient, not recent, which makes sense, as nothing that would have devoured the flesh from the human remains would have left the horse carcasses uneaten.

Leaving in a few hours to go on vacation, posting may be irregular until Sunday, although I will attempt to check in daily.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Feeling the heft of the horse's body, Lianth whispers to the earth and sky spirits to lend their aid.

Strength check, w/guidance 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

She hears only ethereal laughter in return.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth steps forward, muttering a prayer to the Horned Hunter as she does, to focus her spiritual awareness.

Guidance then Perception check 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

These animals were slaughtered by something using claws or some sort of crude swords. I see human bones beneath this one, but why those remains would be skeletal and the horses and ponies left here to rot, uneaten, is a mystery... she says, as she attempts to lean the horse up so that she can pull the bone free and see if it is fresh.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth fusses with Roarke for a moment when they land, noting that his got a slight limp, but deems it not warranting invoking magical healing at this time. A similar inspection of Tymothy leads to the same conclusion.

She takes out her longbow and readies it, covering Anwylia as she approaches the corpses of the horses and ponies.

From her distant position, she looks for any signs of predation, or if the animals appear to have been killed by weapons...

Heal check, penalized probably by her standing back for now. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

The Exchange

Lianth calls upon the spirits of the ground to hold fast to their feet, and the spirits of the wind to soften their descent, if they lose their grip. She's muttering non-stop during the companions descent, as the spirits are fickle, and their memories short...

Casting a butt-load of guidance orisons, to grant everyone +1 to their *first* skill check. They'll have used the +1 on the skill checks to avoid a fall, so they won't gain any benefit on the accompany Reflex save if they blow it...

Lianth seems to run down the treacherous slope, the wind under her arms, twisting and flipping like a circus-performer, moving so quickly and surely that stones have no chance to turn beneath her feet before she has moved on, but Roarke is not so beloved by the spirits...

The Exchange

Lianth shares her knowledge, While he was poisoned by a snake bite, the water-spirits tell me that he drowned, his muscles failing due to the venom. It should be safe to fill out waterskins, if we are cautious and do not splash around too much. Unlike eels, snakes of this sort are solitary and not territorial. She also points out the coins, He seems a city man, from Tamran, not a local.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Uncomfortable with the thought that whatever poisoned this fellow could lurk in the water, Lianth drags it at least 30 ft. from the shore, before stopping to examine the wounds more closely, as well as attempting to identify if this man is a fellow townsman, from his face or distinctive items of gear.

Heal check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Knowledge (local) check, at default, so can't get over a DC 10 1d20 ⇒ 9

Out loud, she says, He's been bitten many times, and poisoned, from the look of it. We should not fill our waterskins here. There may be aggressive poison eels or something...

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Huh, Lianth thinks, taking in the scene, a 'Mist Lake,' if there ever was one...

She advances cautiously to get a closer look at the dark form she sees ahead on the shore. One hand remains on Roarke's neck, resting there and reminding him not to dash ahead impulsively.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Arm flung over Roarke, Lianth sleeps until it is either her turn to take watch or time to break fast.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth waits until Anwyllia is no longer examining the corpses and hauls them away from the camp, so that vermin (such as defecting fleas, in addition to those attracted to the corpses) do not end up infesting the campsite.

She then returns to sleep, after telling Drosk, "I thank you for your healing energies. Roarke will sleep much more soundly for your efforts."

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth carefully sets her longbow aside, and draws her dagger, dispatching both of the fallen wolves with a stab into the skull, muttering words in an unfamiliar tongue as she does.

Druidic, no translation for you!

She cleans her dagger and stops to examine Roarke's wound, although he growls at her when she pokes at the torn flesh where the other wolf's fangs sank deep, cleaning it out to attempt to decrease the chance of infection.

Heal check to clean wounds and determine who needs healing most, neither of which really has any game effect. :) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

She finally loooks to the others, noting that both Senmont and Alizar have injuries, but that Alizar's appear to be more hampering.

"I can attempt to heal your injury, remain still, Manytongues." she says as she places a hand on each side of the injury and calls upon the bounty of the living world.

cure light wounds on Alizar 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Beneath the elf's skin, it feels like roots are growing, pushing aside damaged tissue and the flesh knits up with unnatural swiftness. Roarke continues to attack the wolf he already bit, somewhat perplexed that he felt a powerful bite, and then felt the wound burn away moments later, and feeling harried on all sides, his concentration split between the wolves flanking him.

"The Witch of Mist Lake is my tutor. Someday, that title may be my own, but the path is long before me." Lianth says. "As for the effigies, they have whatever power is attributed to them, nothing more, nothing less. The beliefs of men can give power to many things."

"If we are going to set up some sort of watch, I would prefer the first or last watch, as to accomodate the rites of my faith." Lianth says, dividing up some of her rations to Roarke, who gulps down the scanty portion of jerked meat and then gnaws on the hard rolls, leaving her a wedge of cheese and a couple of carrots for her own dinner.

After eating, she begins assembling a tiny figure of sticks and bark-twine, vaguely resembling a tiny person, which she leaves propped up against a stone, as if to keep watch. Those native to the village will recognize these manikins as being something of a signature of the 'Witch of Mist Lake,' being scattered throughout the woods, and being reputed to have some occult significance.

Knowledge (arcana) or Spellcraft DC 10 will determine that they are nothing of the sort. Just creepy affectation.

The Exchange

Seeing the many-tongued elf leaving, Lianth shrugs and follows, leading Roarke away from the tree, trying to calm his frustration at being called away from the scent.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth is confident that her tracking skills have led her to the correct tree, and Roarke certainly seems to agree, so she informs the others, "The source of the mirages may have clambered up this tree, or be fluttering among it's branches. Do we wish to dismiss this as some fey prankery, and laugh it off, as would be wise, in that case, or take some stronger action to resolve the mystery or punish the miscreant?"

"For the record, I am opposed to burning down the forest, to elimate one potential danger, particularly if the trickster is fey, and could simply fly away..."

"If we are going to dismiss the incident, I would recommend that we continue on. We have a fair distance yet to go."

Round 3

With a 'sst' sound hissed between tongue and tooth, Lianth gets Roarke's attention, and points towards the woodline. "Track!" she says, stepping through the Orc threatening her as if it was made of smoke.

When she arrives at Roarke's position, hoping that his keen senses will assist her him in tracking the source of these phantasms, working under the assumption that the deceiver stood in this spot to determine the best position to view the party, perhaps quite recently...

Wow, just spent thirty minutes trying to figure out what Lianth could do at zero hit points & Staggered without provoking an attack of opportunity or dropping to negative hit points!

Lianth grows increasingly confident as she sees the others displaying signs of familiarity with the trail, and turns her gaze to seeking out prey animals that she might be able to take down with an arrow, for the days lunch.

She doesn't want to slow the group down, so no game effect. They'd have to slow down to half overland travel rate for her to be able to make a Survival (DC 10+) roll to forage.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth examines the map, and then shades her eyes as she looks at the treeline outside of town.

Survival 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

"Leaving town this way should be easiest to get us started." she says confidently, pointing into the woodline. "Do you agree Anwyllia?"

She hoists her pack and stows her shield away, taking up her longbow in hand, and begins moving in that direction, pausing only to make sure that everyone else is following.

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Lianth has gotten tired of the taunting, remembering too well her own outcast childhood,

"Gentlemen. Mister Smallwood may or may not be able to cause a building to topple over when he's anxious. Let's not provoke him into demonstrating what happened to the tower, shall we?"

The Exchange

F Human Druid 1

Seeing a few others beginning to dig into their packs and produce scraps of parchment, Lianth pauses to pull forth her own piece of the puzzle and brings it over to where Anwyllia is standing.

The Exchange

Let them fall over themselves to carry the flame. I'll have both hands free for weapon, shield and spell.

She looks to the others who have also stepped forward, and recognizes that at least one of them is similarly at home in the wilderness, which comforts her.

At liberty, Lianth spends the day hunting, hoping to find something suitable to bring home to her parents to add some variety to the night's dinner.

She finds tracks of deer, but sees none, and only brings home a pair of grouse, enough for a days meal for her parents and herself, but not quite the triumphant return she was hoping for.

Perhaps this is proper, she reflects. We did not need more food than this, and it was prideful to think that the living world exists just so that I can impress others with displays of excess.

In everything, a lesson. she remembers, the words of her teacher, The world aches to teach us, if we but open our ears to it's words.

Common Knowledge about Lianth of Mist Lake;

Lianth was sometimes teased for being a 'changeling child,' as she looked nothing like her darker-complexioned woodworker parents, having pale freckled skin, bright blue eyes and red hair. Growing up, she was a loner because of this, and spent more time hanging around the local kennel-man and working with his hounds. In her early teens, she was discovered to have a spark of magic about her, as she stopped the bleeding of an injured animal with just a touch of her hand, and was soon after apprenticed to the 'Witch of Mist Lake,' a crazy old hermit who lived in the woods, near a perpetually foggy pond. She still lives with her parents, but now dresses differently, in crudely-made patchwork leather armor that she appears to have made herself, and is accompanied by a sleek grey wolf with blue eyes like hers.
