With the appearance of the icy eagle to harass them, Aurelia channels the raw magical energy within her, draining some power to bolster others. She then puts her hands through a series of arcane gestures, glyphs of conjuration appearing in the air before her.

When her spell ends, 1d3 ⇒ 2 small air elementals appear around the eagle! She gestures at the icy construct, and the two begin their assault.
Consume Spell (3rd) as Move action, adding 3 points to my Arcane Reservoir. Then spend the 3 points for Conjuror's Focus to cast Summon Monster III

The elementals attack, accepting Xavien's song into the planar souls! They attack with Reckless Abandon!

Aurelia retrieves a wand, points it at the assassin, and speaks the command word. A ray of scorching flame bursts forth from the tip of the wand!

Aurelia speaks a series of occult words, magic flowing through her as she makes a series of quick gestures.

When her spell finishes, a pair of growling wolves materialize next the assassins! The magic from Xavien's bardsong washes over the wolves, who immediately attack the Chief Enumerator's assailants.

"My assessment of Yanmass, so far, is incomplete. But so far my feelings are... complicated," Aurelia says, unable to not at least a little diplomatic. She doesn't elaborate. "But I believe that you prefer direct, succinct conversation. You had hoped to meet with us?"

"I'm sure you can see how unique these items are. One of a kind, and likely quite valuable to the right collector. And if these items can be reverse engineered, the insights alone could be groundbreaking," Aurelia says, smiling at the man as he looks over the items. "These things are valuable, and I can tell that you know what to do with these. You're smart, and that's good. So I think it's only fair that you compensate us accordingly."

The noblewoman walks forward to work a bit of her own magic. She draws upon her stored arcane power, retrieving a bit of coloured sand as she moves. She speaks a word of magic and points splayed fingers at the woman. A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from her hand, washing over their foe.

"I am more inclined to question the sanity of the occupant, if I'm honest. Though I suppose I can understand the desire to keep solicitors away."

"It's unfortunate that Xavien's gambit didn't pay off. His performance was a convincing one."

Aurelia steps up to stand beside Corran. "He's more or less right about the order. I think it's fair to say that we all care deeply for our homeland, and for the need for change. Having met the Grand Princess, and having been in the room when the rules of primogeniture were changed... Eutropia is the right, and most stable, choice for Taldor."

"But we know that there are those who will still need convincing. So that's what we're doing. As discretely as we can, when we can be discrete. We are showing faith in you, Gallindra. Will you show faith in us?"

Also, Aurelia has Silver-Tongued, which allows her to shift attitude up to 3 steps. Might not matter in this case, but it might.

Aurelia remains calm in spite of the hidden voice. After all, she's with strong friends capable of many things. She smiles even when Ianthe works a spell to see the invisible. "As you say, Lord Karthis. We are looking for people, and we mean no harm. If a place of quiet is needed for us all to have a conversation from prying eyes, I think we'd be happy to accommodate."

Having seen what could have been with that trap, Aurelia works a bit of magic. She pulls life energy from the air about her, creating a shell of vitality that will protect her from harm.

"Are you well, Corran? You looked a bit like you saw a ghost before."

Aurelia takes the wand, smiles at Corran and gives the man a shrug, and proceeds to speak the trigger word to activate the magic.

She touches the nearest townsperson, placing the abjurative magic on them, and then repeats this for the remaining folk. By the end the wand feels brittle in her hand. "There's not much magic left, so I do hope this is enough."

She takes a careful step back, then begins the flowing gestures of a spell. She speaks words of conjuration, drawing power from within her and channeling it into magic.

A burst of sparkling glitter erupts past where the three men are. It washes over the townsfolk, and flows into the newly created pit.
Glitterdust, DC 18 Will save or be Blinded. Because the spell is a spread it should flow into the pit as well. Might be only 5th down, so not sure that's enough to catch the man in the pit

Aurelia drifts over to make conversation with Abrun Palliettor. "Chief Enumerator, allow me to first apologize. I had in no way intended to suggest that you were some common medic. My assumption was more that a man of your station within the Church of Abadar would put you in such a position that such banal inconviences as a common cold would be no barrier to progress. Do you not find it strange that the Baron is missing from these proceedings?"

"All very troubling news. And with such trouble, it is important that there be strong leadership. I would think then that the first order of business would be to see to whatever ails our missing Baron Kustio," Aurelia spares a glance at the priest of Abadar. "Perhaps the good Enumerator could, if he has not already, attend to whatever illness plagues the baron?"

"I admit to also being curious about the aid offered by Earl Merkondus. Just who or what are these 'troubleshooters'?"

"Is the good Banker Navin ill? Where is he right now?"

Aurelia stretches her visit out with Gavin, the physical activity getting her out of her head and away from all of the work she knows she still needs to do. And when she returns to Meratt with Corran, she is rejuvenated and ready.

She also enjoys her time in the capital, acquiring a new dress and a set of jewels that complement her attire.
360gp spent to retrain for 2hp. Spending 75gp for another Noble Outfit and 100gp for jewelry. I'd considered buying a Royal Outfit for 200gp, but suspected that this would be attire above her station.

Aurelia is dressed in her new outfit, gown made of rich, emerald-green velvet. The bodice is intricately embroidered with gold thread, depicting delicate floral motifs and swirling patterns. The neckline is square and adorned with a modest, but dazzling, gold trim. The skirt of the gown is full and flows gracefully to the floor, and a decorative belt of braided gold and green silk cinches the waist, accentuating the gown's fitted bodice. She wears a necklace of gold, set with emerald stones that complement her gown. Matching earrings and a bracelet complete her look.

She also smells amazing, thanks to a careful application of her favourite perfume.
Noble's Outfit, jewelry worth 100gp, and an application of perfume from her perfume kit to give her a +1 to Diplomacy for the next 4 hours.

Corran looks out the carriage at the passing lands.

"It was fine. Nice, even. I hoped to find some clarity of purpose, but I fear I've left even more confused than ever. We were thrown together by the curse and what happened. I, don't want to be trapped by fate. So my plan was to see if there was anything there, beyond this, 'story', of our, 'Love'. I thought if I see her again and the earth moves and stars explode and it's love? Then I'd have my answer. Or, also useful: If I spent time with her and she turned out to be just awful. Instead, she's kind and seeks independence from her Mother and wants to forge her own path. She's also humble. She's quiet, but is clear with what she wants and sets reasonable boundaries, standing up for herself. She's also beautiful and just generally kind of... Great? And I like her mother. Parthena can be a lot, and she's a gossip, but she's also hilarious and generally good. And they support Eutropia! This is a SMART match. I know we would be happy. But... But something. I don't know. I'm not wise enough to know what to do."

Corran suddenly realizes that he's being very honest and straightens in his seat, withdrawing.

"I apologize. I don't... (sigh). I can hear myself sounding like this and I, ah, I don't like it. I mean, I like that we can talk, but I don't like sounding so callow in front of you."

Aurelia smiles, though she is surprised by how honest Corran has been. "I am, by no means, an expert here. My family has always been pragmatic, and if I let them have their way I'd be paired up with someone already. There is, in my view, so much expectation about what we should do. It's written in Taldor's history."

"It sounds to me that you're doing right by yourself, and by Sepsinia. If she is good, kind, and lovely then she is deserving of the same. With Sepsinia setting boundaries and standing up for herself she is also displaying her strength. I would say Eutropia would think highly of this young lady."

She takes a deep breath, and when she speaks again her tone is soft and full of kindness. "Don't let the fact that it's a smart match turn you away. I think love is complex, and it's not always fireworks and magic. Keep asking these questions, be honest with yourself, and be kind to Sepsinia. I'll never think you callow if you do so."

Her smile at the prone man is a both amused and bemused. But at the same time she feels she can relate. "Your company is welcome, and clearly it's time for a break. Have one of the servants load your bags onto the coach, and we'll depart right away."

The five day journey to Oppara allows the two of them to talk a fair bit. She asks him about his writing, they chat a bit about Ianthe, and compare insights on some of the politics of the day.

Eventually, she asks him about about Sepsinia. "So... how was your time at the Crabbe Estate?"

Once in Oppara, Aurelia reaches out to see some of her friends to rekindle connections with likeminded people. She then visits someone she hasn't seen since she was a teenager: Gavin de Roche, now a baron thanks to his friendship with Lady Gloriana Morilla.

Gavin, now a retired Pathfinder, is nonetheless a young man in peak physical condition. The two catch up, with Aurelia listening to his various adventures while they take long walks around the city. He then encourages a bit of sparring with Aurelia, knowing full well that her family made sure she had some proficiency with the blade. By the end of the sparring Aurelia is drenched in sweat. "I'm going to have bruises on top of bruises!"
Retraining - Just three days, spending 180gp to gain 1 hp. The rest of the time will be spent chilling in Oppara before returning to the group.

After spending a couple days with a stack of books, Aurelia feels the need to stretch her legs. "This is grim stuff, and I need to get some air."

She watches as Ianthe begins preparing a party, briefly considering joining. No, I don't think I'm ready for that abundance of company, even if it'll probably be fun.

So after three days of study and research with Kenton, the Lady Basri has a coach ordered for her to make a trip to Oppara. It feels like an age since she's been in the nations capital, what with the whirlwind of events that have since taken place. But she misses the capital, and everything it has to offer.

"Corran? Is that you?" she says, spotting her friend's brother. "I was just about to board my coach to Oppara. Just for a couple days, and I'll be back. What are you up to?"

With no immediate knowledge to share, Aurelia sets to the task of research. "Kenton, you are about to become deeply familiar with several different organizational systems that libraries employ, because with Ianthe away you are now my research assistant. Plus, you can help me carry more books."

Happy to give you three days for a +3. Can I get more if Kenton is also helping?

Aurelia grins at the older man. "You are a credit to your gender, Kenton. The words you choose are perfect, the envy of any diplomat. You are a modern man, and we are fortunate to have your blade and your company."

"Now, to your task I will say that I am happy to help. I can share what I know of night hags, and will gladly see about doing some research to fill in gaps. But ultimately, what we'll need to do is figure out where they are. Which likely requires us seeking out their victims, should they still live."

With the warning provided by Ianthe, Aurelia conjures a burst of magical glitter to fill the area just east of Xavien.

"I have to presume Bartelby can see us somehow," Aurelia says. In response, she holds up a middle finger and waves it all about.

"Wait, Xavien!" Aurelia says, working through the gestures of a new spell that'll speed the steps of the group. "Quickly now! I doubt he's the last we'll face." Haste, which should catch the entire party

Aurelia then points at Gul. Her cheetah charges forward, fueled by Xavien's song.

Aurelia moves forward, gesturing for her cheetah companion to step through the doorway. The cat, ever a hunter, prowls the hallways in search of prey.

Aurelia gestures, sending the cheetah forward to attack the new guard. It complies, bursting forward before lashing out with its teeth.

Aurelia moves into the hallway proper, stopping in front of Corran. "Watch my back, will you? I've a bit of magic to do."

Without waiting for a reply she moves into a quick bit of spellcasting, drawing upon stored magical energy to call forth a bestial ally: a cheetah!

But she was born a Basri, and they have diplomacy in their blood. "We are people of our word, friend. People with the interests of Stachys, of Taldor, in our hearts. And you've shown incredible loyalty in being here still. A strength of character worthy of respect. It's equally important that those in positions of power show respect in kind. Given the exodus we've seen this morning, I think the character of Lord Bartelby is clear."

Voice gentle, Aurelia asks, "What's your name, soldier?"

Aurelia is about to interject when Xavien interrupts with his proposition. She instead waits, watching with a degree of curiosity to see how this plays out.

Having made only a few additional preparations, Aurelia begins her own spellcasting. Her first bit of magic creates an invisible breastplate of force energy, which she hopes will keep any blades away. The second spell is a bit of necromancy though, and is magic she'd hoped to avoid. The spell siphons the very life force from a pocket of aim, which she draws into herself. There's a momentary glow of youthful vitality from her skin, and when the glow fades she speaks. "I am ready. Let's find Bartelby."
