Thanks! I gotta say, the best kinda final encounter is when everyone is at serious risk of death but the scrappy heroes pull through to save the day! Wait... the GM is a supervillain... hmmmm.....

I had a great time with this scenario and I hope to play with all of you again at some point in the future!

GM Supervillain: Admittedly I haven't recruited for a game recently, but as a policy I recruit by lottery but give my prior GMs a chance to bypass said lottery once per GM session.

Watts is in my face to face group. There is also a Tengu Medium named Quoth, although that player hasn't been using Quoth very often. Watts I've seen in action starting from level 1, and I think the last time I played with him was for the Cosmic Captive, where he got to use his absurd linguistics skill in the final encounter. Definitely my favorite character from that player. I ended up making a Ratfolk investigator because of him.

Korai shrugs. "Well, most parents I know couldn't fight off insanity caused by sleep debt, much less that from a insane entrapped genie. While I'm more than happy to do my part in keeping the egg safe I do think you shouldn't sell yourself short. I've seen several Pathfinders turn their blades on an ally after succumbing to a vicious spell and I've never thought less of them for it (says the lvl 8 adventurer with a +3 will save), no more than I think less of someone who is too slow to dodge an expertly thrust blade."

He motions for Paicho to bring forth the egg.

"You are the parent of this egg, and if you still wish us to take it from here we'll do so. But now that's your decision to make with a clear mind."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

"That being said, there is much of this site that could use documenting, and the corpse of the mad Marid lies within. Perhaps you could show up around? I'm sure the Pathfinder Society will wish to make sure it's historical value is preserved while ensuring that the Marid be held within until it's soul is judged by Pharasma."

Did we ever search the room where we fought Moukadeem? If not Korai will give it a once over after the water drains before leaving.

Is there anything preventing us for camping here for the night and having Gratus cast restoration in the morning? I'd say let's bring Alfashti back too, but taking her away from her ward doesn't seem like a great idea. For now, I'll say use the last scroll on Alfashti, see how it works, then drag the Naga home too if it fails.

Since we're bringing Zahra back either way, I'll go with having Gratus cast resto all the way home. Regarding the Naga, I'd like to try at least 1 scroll first just in case there is a good reason not to bring them home with us.

1 charge of infernal healing?

Korai takes a quick look over the notes.
Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

"Hmm... Aquan... hidden messages in the mosaics... we can take notes and check those at our leisure once everyone is secured."

Waking Zahra, and seeing her response he speaks to hear in a slow and measured tone, clearly dodging the question but attempting see what sort of control the Marid had over her, and calm her.

"Moukadeem attacked us, and clearly had no care for your well-being. Upon you being subdued, he continued to flood the room and submerged you in the waters. In fact he laughed at your plight when he thought you had died. The Pathfinder Society sought your safe return, and we represent them. Please work with us and we'll ensure you are cared for."

Sense Motive to sense for compulsions: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Korai sits in the entryway coughing up water for a while before he sits down with Zahra. "So... what do you think... compulsion, seduction, torture, or treason?"

He goes through her clothing for weapons, valuables, and clues, then inspects her for signs of torture.

"Lets make sure she's well bound, and see if she's able to shed some light on this situation. If she's still blathering on about Moukadeem, it may be worth a Restoration or Break Enchantment spell. If she truly went rogue... well... we'll take things from there."

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

"As for the Naga, we should inform her that the corruption has been dealt with. If we can cure her mind, then perhaps she would be able to guard the remains against any chance of reanimation if she wishes to continue her task. Otherwise, I see no reason to lay blame on her for the corruption of Moukadeem. Her lost eggs will be pain enough for her... If we can cure her state of mind at least we can return one of them intact."

Looking over Zahra he shrugs. He checks her bindings, then produces a potion of Cure Light Wounds. "Shall I wake her?"

3-D underwater combat! I think you mentioned that Moukadeem is 16' tall, and the ceiling is ~25ft. I'm assuming it's 10 ft above the ground and it's head is basically at ceiling level? Would it be correct to say that Moukadeem occupies 2x2x3 'cubes' on the field?

Swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18

Taking the speed boost from Blessing of Fervor, increasing speed to 60 ft. 1/4 speed = 15 ft, so going up and diagonally backwards two 'cubes' should be a single move action. That should put me roughly inside of the illusion.

Korai continues to ascend to the surface. Finally reaching the surface, he takes a deep breath of air, puts a little distance between himself and his foe, then taunts the Marid.

"Interesting hypothesis, but the way you fled from my gun makes me think otherwise."

He turns, flaring his cloak out behind him as he does so, but making it appear as though he is swimming left while he kicks off to swim right, hoping to use the illusory foe as concealment.

Using Equipment Trick (Cloak) to create a diversion to hide. Don't judge my idiotic feat selection.

Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

In my defense, I was still under the mistaken assumption that you got a fort save to avoid getting the negative levels. They were level 7 so I figured that 1 scroll of restoration (which they had) would eliminate the worst of the results. As soon as the encounter started and I was informed of my errant assumption about energy drain I regretted my decision.

I have heard of worse though... I have heard of someone giving Specters spring attack and having them fight in a set of narrow corridors.

Korai utters a curse in Aklo. He quickly pulls out his pepperbox, twirls it around his finger and draws a bead on a stalactite just above the elemental's head.

I think Korai is just going to go cry in a corner now.

At tier 7-11 I'd consider the resto scroll cheap, so feel free to use it if it has even a chance of getting us a leg up on what's going on in here. Besides, I'm clearly not holding up my end of the costs on healing having drained my wand last adventure and forgotten to get a new one.

The only reason I'd consider holding onto the scroll is if we think there's a good chance we'll be needing it for ourselves, but I've got 2 of em and we have little reason to believe a group of specters is chilling in here. At least I really hope there isn't... I hate specters. And wights. Especially cairn wights.

In a homebrew game I gave a cairn wight class levels in swashbuckler for an 'On Stranger Tides' themed adventure and immediately regretted it.

"Just make sure this Lunatic Naga is safe. I'd hate to have her die due to careless positioning after that whole mess."

He tosses one of his Restoration scrolls to Gratus. "Use as you see fit. Now, later, never, your call."

With that, Korai hops on his magic carpet (#5), pulls a couple threads loose from one of the images, and brushes the strands together. After a couple tries, the carpet hovers into the air. "And I didn't even have to say some idiotic gnomish babble either."

He smirks towards Wembly. "No offense, but you've gotta admit, gnomes always make the most ridiculous activation words. You could be dead before you're halfway finished saying it."

As he gets the hang of balancing on it, he looks over at his compatriots. "Try not to fall off. The terrain isnt particularly friendly."

He opts to holster his firearm and sheath his dagger, keeping both hands free in case he needs to bail.

Will use cloak trick to glide out of any horrible aerial mishap Korai is doomed to encounter given his die rolls for this scenario.

Well either way we'll need to get down that river of lava. So let's see if I can get one of these flying carpets started.

Well I've got 2 of these scrolls, so if it doesn't work we've still got 1 for later, but either way works for me. Although either way I'll need a couple taps from the hell healing wand.

Korai breaths a sigh of relief as the Naga slumps over.

"Let's bind her and get her out of here. She has clearly gone mad... but if she truly was once the defender of this site, her wisdom may prove invaluable if she can be cured."

He pulls out a scroll of restoration. "If it'll help, I'm sure the return on investment will be worthwhile."

He plucks a few burnt feathers off of himself and shakes his head. "I swear Zyphus has it out for me today... but so far I'm still alive. I guess the big question is how to proceed."

He slowly inspects the room the Naga inhabited and rifles through her belongings as he continues.

"She seemed honest despite her mental state... I would be inclined to believe her description of the traps and wards. We'll need to take great care moving forward."

My interpretation has always been that you only need to pass 1 of the 2 in order to successfully maintain the grapple. So if you choose to make a second check to apply another condition and fail the check, you don't release the grapple as long as 1 of the 2 passed.

Admittedly I've never dealt with this in PFS, but that's how I had handled it in the adventure path I ran that had a grapple brawler.

Korai continues to attempt to subdue her without killing her.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 - 4 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 17 - 4 - 5 = 11 I think there should be a -4 penalty for me being smaller than her (which I forgot last time), and a -5 penalty for this being the second attempt, rendering this unlikely to succeed. But hey, I've got a shot right? Edit: Hurrr.... nope.

Korai carefully considers his next move, preparing to incapacitate the crazed Naga. He considers his blade, but fears he may accidentally slay the deranged guardian. Instea-

...instead he takes a blast of energy straight to the face. Nevertheless, he keeps his calm and carries through. "Rocky... hold him down and let's end this."

Here's where things get tricky. Korai's turn depends very heavily on what Rocky does, and if he succeeds. Rather than play post chicken and risk holding everything up, I'll just make this point now with the following caveat: I'll be delaying until after Rocky's action, then doing the following. If Rocky does something else or fails to pin, Korai will make the same series of attacks, but without sneak attack and all of the goodies. Same dialogue, same action, just significantly less effect.

As soon as Rocky makes his move, Korai's dagger clatters to the ground, and with a quick flurry of well placed strikes he quickly renders the Naga (mostly) harmless and (mostly) unharmed.
