Paladins can be very good tanks, especially dwarven Stonelords. You could even go into stalwart defender, if you want to be a true tank. High AC, many hitpoints, crit-protection, self-healing...

[edit] you can even stance-cycle with the fatigued mercy. go out of stance, move, heal, go in again, attack.

I actually really like that idea. I think I'm going to make all of my characters dwarves from the same clan vying to be the first one to clear out Rappan Athuk.

First off, there's some serious emotional issues attached to alcohol/substance use in this thread. People who choose to get drunk or high are not "disgusting," "pathetic" or any other negative word. They are simply making different choices than people who choose not to imbibe. It doesn't change the type of person they are. Some of the nicest people I know use different substances. Some of the biggest jerks I know are straightedge.

That being said, I've had some of the best gaming moments in my career when the table was drunk or otherwise intoxicated. Not everyone is a sloppy angry bastard when they choose to drink. Don't even get me started on why i'd rather play with someone who is stoned than most sober people... It's all really a matter of personal choice. You shouldn't judge someone or shun someone based on how they choose to live. It ends up stifling your own life and making you look like a jerk.

My last giveaway gathered a lot of interest, but some of the people who won did not contact me back. So, I'm starting over and adding some new stuff to the list.

I have Masks of the Living God, We Be Goblins Too and Dawn of the Scarlet Sun. They're all in good shape, but We Be Goblins Too is slightly used (it's provided my tables with tons of fun, so know I'm passing it on).

I have randomly generated 3 different numbers between 1-30 for each book. To enter, say what book you want, and pick a number. Whoever guesses the number will get the book. Please only pick one book that you want.

Example:

Quote:
I want Blood of the Moon. 16681264901646. Number not actually between 1 and 30.

If no one has this by the end of the day, I'll give away one random prize to a random poster. I'll continue like this for the next three days.

I'll be mailing them to whoever wins. If you win, I'll say it here in the thread, then PM you. If you do not respond within two days, I'll send a PM to a random contestant.

Due to cost, I cannot ship out of the U.S. I apologize if anyone has posted from other countries.

Pass on the holiday cheer!

In the spirit of holiday giving (and stealing ideas from fellow gamers ) I'll be giving away my hard copies of Blood of the Moon, We Be Goblins Too and Masks of The Living God. They're all in good shape, but We Be Goblins Too is slightly used (it's provided my tables with tons of fun, so know I'm passing it on).

I have randomly generated 3 different numbers between 1-50 for each book. To enter, say what book you want, and pick a number. Whoever guesses the number will get the book. Please only pick one book that you want.

Krune does not have a normal spellbook, it's all in his tattoos. For the purposes of the scenario I would only use it to cast things that he has prepared. (Or wish on hard mode) There are plenty of cool options without looking for other spells.

I'm thinking SMIX should do the trick. Ice Devil with at will Cone of Cold (13d6) and Walls of Ice or Astral Deva with at will Plane Shift, Holy Word, invisibility and a badass hammer. Both sound good!

Conning commoners out of a few copper for some snake oil, sure. Conning a high intelligence wizard out of his livelyhood, nope.

It all comes down to the PCs not being mindless chumps. You assume that just because the GM can crank hit point doesn't mean he can crank diplomacy checks. Have you thought maybe GMs don't want their players to have ridiculous wealth because they have a +20 diplomacy at level 2? Its not lazy gaming, its rational gaming.

Any idea when non-subscribers can expect this? They've already charged me for it...

I've seen it happen and been the GM at tables where it happened. Its usually propagated by your local rules lawyer. Anytime it happens at my table, I usually GM fiat it in my favor, and show them the "GM is the arbitrator" rule.

Well there are methods to erase someone's memory. For instance, you could secretly poison someone. Then erase your own memory of the poisoning.

One way to do it would be to set up a trigger that would have your memory returned to you(through Contingency for instance). This would allow you to become lawful good while still committing evil acts.

As for why you would do this, several reasons. One, if you are trying to infiltrate an enemy organization, this would get past detection(spells that make alignment undetectable are spotted with detect magic). Two, it would allow you to get into heaven if you get killed. Which is much nicer than going to the abyss or hell.

I don't think you're getting what the alignment system is. Alignment isn't what you know about your character, it's the general category your character falls under based on actions and morals. A "good" character wouldn't murder some random innocent, and the minute they did, they would probably shift to "evil." These are arbitrary things though. Just because your character can't remember what he did, doesn't mean he didn't intentionally do it, and therefore has the capability for these kinds of actions.

Also, the whole "getting into heaven" thing is also probably BS. A goodly aligned deity probably isn't going to allow someone who murdered a innocent, then cleared the memory to "cheat the system" into heaven.

Just my opinions on this.

I have ran into a serious problem that I'm sure many casters deal with. My AC and HP blows. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to bump it up to reasonable levels.

My stats as it stands are:
(WARNING: Min-Maxed stats below.)

Spoiler:

Level 8 Human Witch

Standard:
Str - 8
Dex - 14
Con - 14
Int - 26
Wis - 9
Cha - 8

HP 57
AC: 14 (Silken Ceremonial + Mithral Buckler) / 16 with Mage Armor

With Threefold Aspect cast, adopting elderly form:
Str - 6
Dex - 12
Con - 14
Int - 30
Wis - 9
Cha - 8

HP 57
AC: 13 (Silken Ceremonial + Mithral Buckler) / 15 with Mage Armor

Some ideas to get my AC higher:
+1 shield / armor
+1 Amulet of Natural Armor
(Maybe increase these to +2's when I have the gold. I'm sitting on 6007 GP right now.)

Even with these two, I am up to 17 normal / 19 Mage armor, or 16/18 with Threefold Aspect. This is abysmal when creature CR 5-8 are hitting with +10-20. Any advice on how to handle this overall squishyness?

Is it possible to use a large Scizore as a two handed weapon? From the description, it doesn't sound possible, but I don't know if there's any rule actually against it.

Quote:

The scizore is a hardened tube that fits your forearm, ending in a semicircular blade used for devastating bladed punch attacks.

Benefit: The scizore grants a +1 shield bonus to AC, but if you attack with the blade, you lose the AC bonus that round and take a –1 penalty on attack rolls with the scizore. While wearing a scizore, you cannot use that hand for anything else. A scizore provides a +10 bonus to your CMD against being disarmed of your scizore. Donning a scizore is a full-round action.
