Hi, Kjel. You doing okay?
I'm hesitant to say I'm doing 'really badly' as there are people here who are having a rawer deal currently…and I don't want to overshadow that in any way.
But No, I'm don't doing so well currently. It's a bit of everything, mentally and emotionally I'm spent and raw, been feeling lonely and missing companionship and life/work has been letting me down lately.
I am no AP critic since I don't even write myself, so I would have no idea on how to critique an AP.
Nuns huh…

Sure.
Within the last year these are the companies (other then 5th ed and Pathfinder) I've invested most of my time (and money) in (Company - Setting format):
Fria Ligan (Free League) - Symbaroum
Chaosium Inc. - RuneQuest Glorantha
Cubicle Seven - Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th ed (and the previous 2nd ed by Black Library/Fantasy Flight Games)
Schwalb Entertainment - Shadow of the Demon Lord
Modiphius Entertainment - Conan: Adenventures in an Age undreamed of
Honourable mentions goes to: Catalyst Game Labs - Shadowrun 5th ed
If you would want to know, I could also try and explain what it was that caught my eye to these particular products if you want to / think it could be helpful to your future endeavours Orthos?.

Yes. The little blood suckers think im some kind of delicasy. Not only do they always bite me, even with other people in the room. Im also a bit allergic to them so i get bumps the size of an egg.

I'm also a bit allergic to mosquito bites. They don't get quite egg-sized though, more like a bottlecap-sized in diameter...and can grow almost twice that size if I can't keep from clawing at them.

Sorry about the mussed up fur but it was all that getting in and out of stuff.
Hmmm…
I really like no. 1, though for some reason it doesn't really seem like a bridal gown to me. It seem more like a longish dress you'd see on one of the bridesmaids to me for some reason I can't quite put my finger on...
That or I'd expect to see you to be wearing that red dress, while lounging on a piano, singing to me at a high class club… ^^'
Still I like it, its really pretty.
I also like no 3. It's a kind of simpler/cleaner dress with a really nice deep colour. Also the dress doesn't quite have the kind of traditional 'wedding dress' look (which it shares to some degree with no 1.), which is something I quite like the look of.
Lastly I'll (honorably) mention no 4. which for me is kind of your traditional wedding dress, with a lot of sparkle and glitter.

'Cause clearly Luke and Leaia failed that task royally, else episodes VII to IX would be very different. My friend thinks the Empire just has too many governor Tarquins and whatever, and I think that defeating them -- by politics or by war -- would make a good gritty story.
"I always believed that if we could just free people from the iron boots of the Sith, people would welcome the Republic back with open arms...but this "Make the Galaxy Great Again" campaign and its popularity has me doubting the very foundation of democracy and the Jedi Order."
Could be a fine story, though as in most stories (and settings) its about the nitty-gritty details of 'how, where and when'. It could be done potentially in both a boring and an interesting manner depending mostly on, well, your particular taste in plots.
Republics have a terrible track record in the Star wars universe.
A hell of lot of stories in that universe so far seems to be about how 'republics' in various forms (Old Republic, the Galactic Republic, The New Republic and so on) buckle under for corruption from both within and without (oh and gets beaten in various wars), to be replaced by various types of authoritarian rule.
So seeing it the other way around could, for once, very well be interesting.

So no female space marines for you then? ^^
Go back far enough and female Space Marines are canonical but I don't mind the current boys only Astartes club. Mostly they're about martial honor and expressing different shades of anger while lacking certain fundamental human traits like fear and sexuality. The Emperor designed them to be disposable shock troops that he was gonna destroy Ala the Thunder Warriors after conquering the galaxy.
So, post-humans evolved beyond humanity yet lesser for it as well who live a life of nonstop violence without the solace of family or basic humanity? I'm fine with that being an all boys club, they can keep it. =)
Funnily that pretty much my take on it too.
Truth be told though, I don't really feel that strongly about the sexes of space marines (frankly I have a bigger problem with Primaris Marines - or space marine space marines as I call them), with the only rewriting/retconning/erasing the huge backlog of present lore being an actual problem. I suspect that for me at least its more a thing about space marines not really being my primary flavour thing about 40k (that goes the larger 'human' Imperium), but all that said I only have very few problems with the way the setting as a whole handles the sexes in the far off war torn future - even when they crate sex-locked groups and factions (Yes there are cliches and tropes amongst them, but really I don't mind that much).

Yea, I'm with Freehold on this one (when it comes to historical matters at least).
Trying to condense the Christopher Columbus' life, voyages and the Columbian exchange into just under 6 minutes, does a disservice to everyone involved. Its a many-faceted matter where simple a point-by-point listing does very little to actually illuminate the historical context of what (probably) happened.
Does that mean that Christopher Columbus was a nice guy?
That's a big nope, both he (and his brother Bartholomew) were by most (mostly Spanish) accounts petty tyrants and overtly brutal overlords to such an extend that the Spanish crown rather quickly (for the times) saw them replaced (he even saw a short stint in prison for the accusations leveled against him).

I might get in hot water with some of this, but to heck with it.
Spoiler:
I really really wanted to like Good Hunting, but honestly it just skirted past getting a "dishonorable mention" from me.
The animation is gorgeous in places, especially concerning mechanical, clockwork or steam-stuff, the landscapes/backdrops and the nine-tailed fox ladies.
But on the other hand I do not like the story. I tried, but I just couldn't find it as engaging or tragic as I was supposed…
For some reason I couldn't shake the feeling out of my head that what I was seeing was a variation of this troupe (expect...well...put a "White" before man).
So let me get the plot straight.
Yen forgives Liang for participation in his mothers murder.
Yen then gets locked in human form because magic is disappearing due to the rise of technology (which the English bring?).
The hackneyed Pith helmet wearing Englishman resorting to casual
racism toward Liang, Sure I'm following so far...
Yen has to become a prostitute due to being form-locked.
The well-dressed mob of Englishmen man-handling Yen? Okay, I get it as long as this isn't the start of a pattern...
Yen gets roofied by the in from the left field insane English governor, who proceeds to chop her up and turn her into his personal sex clock-work automata, for which she kills him.
Yen gets Liang to build her a transformable body, that let her assume her fox form, so that she can hunt down "those who think they can own us, the men who perpetrate evil and call it progress".
2nd mob of Englishmen manhandling a woman, which Yen then attacks (and probably kills). See this is that pattern I was worried about…
Liang, you might have goofed up here and helped a future villain here...maybe your father wasn't so wrong about these fox-women being rather dangerous.
Or maybe to put it more succinctly what are the characters trying to say it this episode?
That (beautiful) women get blamed for the failures of men (the merchants son)?
That you have to keep technology in check (or magic disappears) - > (might also be an "appeal to nature" in there too)?
That colonialism is exploitation and thus very bad?
Couldn't you just pick one, and stick to it???
As for Three Robots, I do love the opposable thumbs on cats part.
But what I love more is the idea that its actually them that somehow caused the apocalypse that wiped out mankind (as opposed of what the rather ill-informed robots seems to claim might have happened).
There is kinda an interesting question in that show though, if you were transported to a fantasy world and had basically the power of a god and no real pressing business what would you do with it?
Might be a fun premise for an adventure sometime.
There are so many anime with that story these days, you can see a lot of different takes on it. Overlord is the only one I can think of going the evil route, which is kind of refreshing, but it's starting to wear on me a bit.
I'm actually playing in a similarly themed homebrew RPG atm. We weren't godlike, but the tech we brought with our characters is far beyond that of the world we arrived in, so we're pretty high up there as long as the batteries last. :P
Oh yeah? Not super familiar with anime, though I like it alot, are there some of the other 'go to fantasy world, be godlike' animes you would recommend?
If you're specifically looking for the 'go to fantasy world, be godlike' ones, going from highest recommendation to lowest:

*Adds The rising of the shield hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) to the list*
The Hero's not quite God-tier (quite the opposite in some respects) but I think it still might count.
It's got a bit of an jarring and edgy* start to it like Goblin Slayer, but quickly becomes more of a standard fantasy romp.
(Wouldn't recommend if you find the subjects of rape/rape accusations and slavery to be no-go subjects).

I did not expect Triple Frontier to be as good as it was, nor for Affleck's character to precipitate things the way he did! Recommendation seconded, and another score for Netflix.
Glad you're digging Love, Death & Robots btw, I hope there's more to come. :)
Yeah, good stuff.
Love, Death, and Robots is great. The first episode had me feeling a little ho hum until the double twists, talk about empowered women!
Watched it too…
Best episodes* (in no particular order): Sonnies revenge (reminds me of Eclipse Phase), Beyond the Aquila Rift, Shapeshifters (reminds me of WoD Werewolf), The Secret War (reminds me a bit of CoC set in WWII).
Honorable mentions: Fish Night and Zima Blue (for aesthetics) + Three Robots (for twist ending and the potential effects it has on the story).
Dishonorable mentions: Alternative Histories (for most wasted potential)
*Judged by the goose-bump factor.
Funny fact though, I love it for the exact reasons its been criticized, namely the excessive violence and gratuitous nudity/sexuality. It even shows...gasp!...Pubic hair!!!

It kills appetites real good in addition to pain management with the only slight side effect of basically being legal heroin and all the dangers that entails.

So I scrubbed all the tile floors on my hands and knees with a scrub brush to really get them clean, mopped, vacuumed, and gave the whole house a good cleaning. Which inspired the kids to VOLUNTARILY clean their room, which was nice.

The first episode was designed to upset, appall, and generate all kinds of buzz.
The rest of the series is MUCH lighter. There are still lots of allusions to rape, and the violence is still bloody, but none of it holds a candle to the first episode...
While you are somewhat right, I'm not sure as to the intent of the first episode. Especially, as you've pointed out yourself, with the returning allusions and the way victims of the not so tender ministrations of the goblins are brought up and portrayed later on.
That said, it does feel a bit gratuitous and over the top compared to the rest of the series...to the point of where you can legitimately ask as to why including the initial episodes rape scene.
My personal best guess is that ultimately, showing beats explaining. If you talk about something like this, its harder not to somehow intellectualize it, compartmentalize and make it a subject of academic study and research.
Showing it makes that harder due to the sheer viseral nature of what being shown...its so much harder to distance yourself (intellectually and physically) from what's going on if your senses are being bombarded by the sicking sounds and the horribly sights of it all.

There's kind of two level of it I believe.
There's your inborn or "base" tolerance (which is based on stuff like size, diet and many other factors - some disputed such as ethnicity) and then there's your "practiced" tolerance, which is primarily based on consumption (though cases of reverse tolerance do happen to particular heavy alcohol consumers).

Everything has to come OUT of the attic so the roof work can be done.

So, why did he have two boxes of 7.92x57mm with Russian-style (Cyrilic?) writing that seemed to imply they were made in Ethiopia in 1957? As far as I know my Dad still has them somewhere.
Weird. If it were twenty-odd years later, I would have assumed they were made for the war in Afghanistan.
Yea its a bit strange…
I think that 7.92x57mm is better known as 8mm Mauser (in the States at least), it was used by as a service cartridge for several countries in both world wars (though it was German in origin).
Over here its still used in some (especially in German or Czech made) hunting rifles.
Might be talking out of my ass, but I believe that Ethiopia used a hodgepodge of (from already outdated to "mostly new") European equipment during the WWII, so it perfectly plausible that some domestic ammunition production was set up to churn out ammo for "kind of out of place" weaponry .

Kjel, I'm so sorry, but... in all honesty, after the number of times you've shared stories about doing much more than your share of the load because your coworkers couldn't be bothered and knew that you would pick up the slack, well, perhaps a change might be a good thing?
Sorry if I'm being dense.

Here! Have a cookie!
*Munches on cookie*
There is some truth to that LM.
In many ways I do need some new pastures to waddle about in as the job at the horsebreeder was getting to me. My coworker weren't all bad, but most of them were unfortunately rather uncooperative and unwilling to work on a efficient and organized distribution of the required daily routines and assignments (aka "It ain't my job" or "can't you do it instead").
So in essence I became that grumpy guy who wanted to put everyone to work (so we can get done earlier) which wasn't that appreciated. I'm by no-ways a happy or eager worker (In fact I'll grumble al the way to and from work), but once I'm there I do like getting shit done and over with.
So Yea it might be for the best that my contract wasn't renewed. The only down side with the new temp job at the riding-school/riding sport club is that I'll be working Saturdays (only a short roughly 4 hour shift though). To compensate though I'll be Mondays off, so I still have a "two day weekend".
…
I'm actually looking forward to getting started come Thursday…

Yea…
I'm kind of like that too. While these movies are great for kids (and I'll watch em with kids), they often don't really capture me that well. I don't go that often to the movies, so if I'm going it for something I really, really, really want to see.
All that said, recently it will require even more arm-twisting to get me to see a Marvel/DC movie, as I'm suffering from sever super hero fatigue.
Ugh, I know what you mean. I'm still a sucker for the supers genre, but after seeing X-Men Apocalypse and Justice League I've begun approaching the whole genre with extreme trepidation.
(It's not just those two movies that did it, they just really highlighted the supers-ism of "Aim our one unstoppable godlike super at the otherwise invincible bad guy, win." Doesn't work in TTRPGs, doesn't work in team movies.)
Yea, that's kind of another gripe with them...
Also just kind of wish they would deviate from the "mold" of superhero stories and venture into other territories.
Actually I am keep an eye on one Supers Project out of curiosity (a tv show instead though).

Well, I'll be seeing it opening day. Does that count?
I pretty much loathe all biographies, because telling the true story of an amazing person isn't enough for Hollywood, and they have to turn it into something twisted, convoluted, and unrecognizable.
I successfully sat through Bohemian Rhapsody. I'll give it that much.
But GothBard desperately wants to see it, very likely for the same reasons you do, and I honestly hope that it manages to live up to your expectations.
I am, er, less optimistic.
Yea, must say I'm not really that into "biographical movies" either for precisely the same reasons you've mentioned. Now if they label it a "fiction based on true events" well...at least I can then turn a bit more of my brain off (Which is what I view most of the biographical or historical work that come out of Hollywood to be).
Haven't actually seen Bohemian Rhapsody as I'm not really that interested in it...then again I'm of the somewhat blasphemous opinion that Queen really wasn't all that great either (Alright, just not phenomenal).

I'm out of the job, as of yesterday...so bye bye horse-breeder and horsies.
The good news however is that I start temping at a Riding School next Thursday, So I'll be unemployed for a whole 4 days.
Actually dressing is also a bit of a science. You won't look good in everything. Some things will just look better on you then others. Like I don't pull off the colour yellow well, but I look good in dark colours such as dark blue, dark green, magenta, black, because of my fair(relatively) complexion. I'll note that I look better in dark green then dark blue, because some shades of navy can end up with me looking a little faded.
Body shape is also the same. Different styles emphasize different parts of your body - tubes emphasize every curve you have, so if you have any unsightly curves, it'll show up. Also, sometimes the blocky, muscular look for girls isn't so desirable, not that I'm there yet, but there are some leanings in that direction.
And Kjeldorn...I'm always hungry lol =P Om Nom Nom Nom Nom.
*Scratches head*
Yea I know I'm no dressing expert for sure, though since I'm a standard 'pale as a ghost' white guy I do tend to avoid amplifying it with light/pale colors and stay with deep and dark blues, greens and the like.
As for body shape…
Well since I'm rather girthy, with a sizable behind, I've found that baggy or stretchy clothes serves me best, as it conceals said girthiness.
(Yea its a lot of beating around the bush, probably should just flat out say I'm overweight, with quite the beer-belly) .

Stein um Stein by Rammstein (They got a ton of these...others would be "Du riechst So gut" or "Wollt ihr das bett in flammen sehen" and they all seem to be about sex)

She was eating steamed corn. One kernel ended up going down the wrong pipe. She started choking on it, then coughed. Rather than expelling into her mouth, it went straight up into the sinus passages. She couldn't get it out on her own after about 36 hours (including using sinus rinses), so she went to the ER. They did a CT scan to find the corn kernel in her sinuses. They were able to remove it with non-invasive methods. All clear.
But...
Last July when she was in the hospital for her mini-stroke they did a CT and found a cyst in one of her sinus cavities. They figured like any cyst it would eventually re-absorb and be fine. Unfortunately the current CT scan shows the cyst has enlarged. So she needs an ENT doc to take a look at this.
Kind of lucky that:
1. They got a second look at that durned cyst, and that it seems benign.
2. They got that durned corn out non-invasively.

And at the end of the first week, have discovered that I have 5,000 words written.
For the first time in my life, I'm not sitting staring at a blank page, hating myself. I'm getting words down and actually enjoying it.
My goal is to get a big enough chunk of the rough draft bunged out by the end of term that while I'm on break for the summer (best thing ever, splitting ten months of work into 24 equal installments so I don't have to worry about funds over June and July) I can set down to work in earnest and really flesh it out.
And I've started my research, which is funny, because it's already beginning to cause a disruption in the kind of ads I'm seeing online, for things that I will never ever buy.
And, for personal accountability, I've told Hermione, who knows that it's our secret, and she is allowed once at the end of every school day to ask, "Mama, did you get your work done?" and give me a conspiratorial smile, which she enjoys.

Well if we are both responsible adults and take preventive measures (ie me wearing a condom and her being on some kind of contraceptive) should keep the risks of pregnancy to a minimum.
Now as it isn't a foolproof method, what would I do if I go a woman pregnant anyway?
Well I would ask her to sit down and have a talk about it. How does she feel about it? How do I feel about it? What would it mean for our relationship? Is there even a relationship? Does she want a child? Do I? Does she want me being a part the child's life? Do I want any of that?
And hopefully, in the end, we together can come to a conclusion that we both can live with.
I'm not saying its easy, nor painless, nor simple...but in such a situation it might just be about doing as well as you can for the both of you instead of trying to do what's 'expected' of you by traditions or society.

It is her body, so I don't really feel comfortable telling her what to do with it. So No, I wouldn't make her get an abortion as that would ultimately violate her control over her own body, just as I myself would like to maintain my control over my own body.
So while I would like a say in such a matter, it would ultimately be a decision primarily for her as she is the one most affected by carrying a child to term.

He's supposed to hear this week sometime about an interview he had last week that is his first best chance in a long time. Fingers crossed.

Heck, my husband even suggested that I might need to go to the doctor, but I nixed that once I was sure it wasn’t broken. For a sprain they would just tell me to do exactly what I’m already doing. No need to pay for expensive tests for that. Anyhow, I’ve been pretty much off my feet for the last three days thanks to this and the Christmas lights still aren’t up and neither is the tree and it’s driving me nuts that I haven’t been able to finish the task. :(

Hmmm…
I'm guessing your swimsuit is a one-piece. Might add a pair of short shorts to cover up the crotch region, and if the upper 'bounce' is bothering you could maybe tape them in using sports strapping tape.
Just spit balling here, I'm no expert on the subject.

That's not entire true Kitty.
To me, at least, you do seem to try and understand.
Also having had rough patch yourself, will make you a little more aware of the signs of mental issues. You might not be able to accurately diagnose people, but you'll see the signs. That awareness will in itself, usually, make you more likely to offer help or support to other people.
You might not think like other people Kitten (I know I don't for sure ^^'), in fact very few people do think really alike, but in your own way I'm sure you'll find some way of expressing support.

Are you sure you should be using cochineal dye? I mean its mostly know as a early renaissance dye (over here, since you know the Spanish brought some back from the whole stomping of the Aztecs thing*). I mean I think maybe Kermes or Rose madder would be a more likely dye used…
* Yes there were exceptions, as the were cochineal dye production (and trade with the rest of Europe) in central and eastern Europe during medieval times...and in the Caucasus region even as far back as around 800-700 BC-ish.

I hope your mother recovers quickly and without any complications John.
I had the weirdest, best experience with parent-teacher conferences yesterday. It was one of those "wow, you really had better look at your cultural assumptions and quit judging people" moments.
You know my student with all the issues? The one who glued the hand-therapy plasticine in his hair and crapped in the bathroom sink and had the petit mal during naptime?
His dad came in for conferences yesterday. His dad is a tall, burly Mexican-American... looks like a cross between Javier Bardem and Alfred Molina, longish hair in his eyes. He drives the biggest pickup truck I've ever seen.
So, yeah, I assumed he was a tough, macho guy who was a little embarrassed about his son's issues, and that's why he does everything for him at home and why the boy screams if you ask him to do anything for himself. (Put on his shoes, change his clothes, open his lunchbox)
And he starts talking about how worried he is that anxiety disorders are genetic, because he and his brothers were badly physically abused by their dad and they all ended up with severe anxiety disorders (his youngest brother the most), and with different types of treatment/medication, and he sees similarities in his son with himself as a child, and overhelps because of his fear.
Holy crap.
Was kind of (not the precise diagnosis, but that he suffer from some sort of neurodivergence or mental issue(s)) what I was afraid off when I heard about the little guy.
Hope you get a better handle on him (and his problems) now that you and his dad have had a candid talk, and get some better coordination between school and home implemented.
*Gives both thumbs up to LM*
Keep on doing good work LM!

Look, I don't care if you never learn to cook fancy dishes - not everyone has the talent etc, but I expect you to be able to enter anyone's (well stocked) kitchen and fix yourself something edible.
Basic cookery is an invaluable skill, especially when living alone. So yes, add me to the 'everyone should spend some time in the kitchen crowd'.

It just me musing about how the bulwark of democracy (ie the allies) seemed to act more on the concept of self-preservation, then on any form of principled defense of values.
My little list (and it wasn't exhaustive really) was mostly about showing there were enough of 'bad guys' to choose from in the 30s and 40s.
As far as should another country interfere that is gonna vary but I feel like if you leave bad people alone long enough they eventually make it your problem. I think there is a quote that gets used on the internet a lot about that. Something about WW2 etc.
Firstly its a piece written for the musical Cabaret in the 60s I believe (You know the times where you could discuss the workings of a certain German political party without having to make 'the sign of the cross' and obfuscating any deep or uncomfortable parts of such a discussion with an constant stream of profuse refutation and denouncement of the subject matter as a whole) so I think you're actually more safe then you might think.
Secondly I kind of get it Baron.
I catch myself whistling the Panzerlied when I'm war gaming or at time when I'm playing something like War Thunder. I was brought up watching movies like the 'Battle of the Bulge', 'The Guns of Navarone' 'Tora!, Tora!, Tora!' and 'Sea of Sand' together with my father from a very young age, so a lot of those early images kind of stuck with me.

Okay, remember how I said this morning that I wanted to call in sick and lie on the couch with a pot of tea under a cozy afghan?
Well, I'm sick again. For the fourth time since school started. This time it waited four weeks instead of the usual three to hit me again. (Yes, I've been sick so often that I'm tracking it.)
So I dropped the kids off for their usual Thursday evening at Grandma's, slogged OVER AN HOUR to get home (twelve miles, but it's raining, so lots of accidents on the roads), made tea, climbed onto the couch under the seven-year afghan ** spoiler omitted **...
and discovered that the shady management company that owns our house is trying to cheat us out of the three days of motel stays from the recent electrical work, claiming that they had already credited us for it in August.
No, in fact, the credit in August was compensation for the fact that the house wasn't anything close to move-in ready and was, in fact, a stage setting for a minor scene in a modern film version of Dante's Purgatorio.
So I spent the evening on the couch under a cozy afghan with tea, working on financial projections from now through February.
And I CAN'T call in sick tomorrow because tomorrow I have to give parent-teacher conferences.

I asked this in FAWTL's Discord (invites on request!) but I'd like to get opinions here too. =)
I've been meaning to get started on working on one of my many story ideas, and I figure this weekend is as good as any.
So I'm gonna ask you guys. Which of the following stories sounds most interesting to you?
1 - a war heroine claws her way to prominence amidst distrust and betrayal while a monster from the dawn of time wakes to ravage the land
2 - the story of a fallen villain's redemption and a continent wide conspiracy lost to her burned away memory
3 - a Nature vs Technology story with a few unusual twists
4 - a tale of an impending apocalypse at the hands of a scheming kobold
5 - a story of a group of heroes who defined the landscape of their homeland with their impact on history
My picks are:
2.
1.
3.
Honourable mentions (and my actual favorite): The story of a hero's fall to villainy and how far the hero's companions (the player) are willing to let their former friend, companion, lover slip for the sake of that connection.
Making some gory examples of some criminal elements in the city is alright…it keeps others in check!
How should we treat the captured conscripts of the rebellious lords? I mean they just conscripts right! They were just following orders! but...we can't exactly just let them all go...can we?
I mean they did raise their arms against our friend...and they did hurt or kill our soldiers on the field of battle...So what do we do?!
*A messenger delivers orders from hero*
Execute every tenth of them (Man, woman and child)! and put the rest to heavy manual labour till they drop!
*Looks worried at the rest of the companions*
Counting today, twelve school days until Winter Vacation.
I love working at this school better than any I've worked at so far, but I am tired, I want to see my mom and my sister and my niece and my grandma, and I want someone to cook for me.
But I have to give my first batch of parent-teacher conferences at this school on Friday, and even though that's something I'm usually really good at, I'm anxious about it.
We're still having a hard time just getting through each month. WW's job is helping us squeak by without any more loans from his mom (which is good, because she's said she's done helping, and we can start paying her back aaaaanytime now), but it's super tight. He needs a better job SOON. $12/hour gross with no paid time off does not cut it.
Tough times LM.
If you ever feel like things are getting over you're head and you need some help, don't hesitant to ask. Its a bit hard for me for sure sitting on this side of the pond, but if nothing else I could throw a few dollars you're way. It'll probably just be a spit in the bucket, but I want to help where I can…
Cause well, you people are good people.
That too goes for making you a meal. Wish I could just package one up and send it across the pond, but I couldn't really guarantee the condition it would arrive in ^^'

I'm right with you there.
It was essentially when I was deepest in my depression and in my cups, that I had to face the fact that no chance in hell could I finish my university courses. Spending months wallowing in my misery, doing littles else then drinking and sleeping.
When I started getting back on my feet, I quickly discovered there wasn't much demand for chronically depressed university drop-outs in the workforce...
Also I had to look out for myself, minimizing stress and anxiety.
Which is essentially why I became a stable-boy. Working with animals is, for me at least, therapeutic. I might be kind of sad sack, but I'm more comfortable around horses, when I'm down. Cause their behaviours and reactions are for the lack of a better description more natural and genuine then most people's to me.
It's my drug of choice, and I'm fully aware that I've used (and to an extend still use) it as a form of self medication. It's effects on me lean heavily on the depressant side, thus I tend to get gloomier and moodier as I get drunk, though I'm well-aware that ones should never discount the possibility of getting more feisty or aggressive while under the influence.

I found a support group for people with mental illness in town. I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. When I lived in Jacksonville, before my divorce, I occasionally went to a few - they weren't super helpful in of themselves, but I made some nice friends who were, outside of the group situation, more helpful and supportive. There weren't any in the county I lived in after my divorce in South Florida, so it kind of slipped my mind up here.
I haven't made any friends since moving to Ohio, so I'm kind of hoping this kills two birds with one stone.
I had a major anxiety freak out/panic when I went over my finances today..the idea of seeing other people who might have ideas of where I can find work, or other help, is about the only thing that got me through the day today. I am all out of my acute panic stuff, and the doctor won't refill it - apparently this county is really bad on pill trafficking, so all the doctors and hospitals have lists of controlled substances they just straight up won't refill. Kind of sucks when you really need it.
Today's plus side - the library had the only Jim Butcher book I hadn't read in today! Brief Cases, a collection of Dresden Files shorts.
I can't express how much taking a hot shower, putting on classical music, and reading a few shorts helped. I have to remember that in the future. It won't help when I'm out of my house, but it's good to learn coping mechanisms where you can.
Sigh Now I want to re-read the entire anthology. And play a FATE game (they have the official RPG setting for DF).

I'm still not clear on what hipster means. Mrs. Sunrise says we're kind of hipsters, but I can't keep in my head why. It's all very vague and ethereal, much like culture itself.
Hipsters are kind of a cursory revisiting of some of the progressive subcultures that came before them.
- Theres some beatnik pseudo intellectualism.
- There some hippie-esque dreams of environmentalism.
- There some grungy fashion sense.
- There some remnants of yuppie professionalism.
- There are the gnawed empty bones of the postmodern scepticism.
All smashed together with little care or mind to the contextual origins of the cultural movements from which the hipster liberally burrow.
It seems to me that hipsters creating reproductions, pastiches or otherwise empty shells of (other) cultural phenomena in order to ease its proliferation and consumption, primarily by themselves. Though in doing so much of said phenomena changes, or losses at least part of its original form and meaning, as its integrated into of "hipster-culture".
But hey what do I know…I'm no -ist (despise what some people say…) or an -ian.

It's a project we're doing in economics - scenario is high unemployment across all sectors, high inflation, and falling GDP. Their job is to recommend policy to fix this without increasing national debt. This is meant to serve as a lesson on fiscal/monetary policy, leading into discussion on mandatory vs. discretionary spending.
Their initial solution was along the lines of "can't have high unemployment/mandatory spending if you don't have enough people to be unemployed/claim benefits." We're trying to walk back the murder somewhat to deal with, y'know, actual understanding of the lesson objectives.
I think I might look into a solution...
