So I'm honestly curious: How did the fanbase kill the series for you? Was it rewritten to satisfy them, or did you just find their fanboy/girlishness intolerable?

I am fortunate in that I am an anti-social shut-in. I'd never even heard of Trigun before Shiro made us watch it. I know My Hero Academae seems to have an appallingly annoying and fanatical fanbase, but I find it very easy to ignore them all.

I know you actually go to cons and such so it may be far worse for you, but I've never particularly paid attention to what other people think.

Just ask my fish pants.

EDIT: Or my lack thereof?

EDIT: Or my lack thereof?

there are a handful of series where the fanbase killed any interest I may have had. Congoing certainly played a part, possibly a major one, but there are things out there where I know/am friends with the ONLY sane person out there for it.

Some examples include...

Fushigi Yuugi- One of the few girls fantasy(not magical girl, mind) shows in a VERY shonen- heavy time period, I have yet to meet a fan who is not female and does not want to f$*@ either Tamahome, Tasuke or Chichiri or actively be Miaka or Nuriko. And tell me about it. In lurid detail.

The Slayers- At a time period where gaming and anime intersected quite readily I have lost count of the girls who attempted to make lina inverse in game and tried to imitate her HORRIFIC dubbed voice actress. Second place is a tie with Gourry, Zelgadis and Naga. This was the start of "no anime characters in game" for my group- and this is us talking.

Inuyasha- I worship at the altar of Rumiko Takahashi-o-sensei, but my God, the fans of this show were incredibly obnoxious. It kills me to say this because I love Ranma with all my heart, and it has it's fair share of obnoxious fans especially when the sex aspects of the sex comedy come up, but they can't hold a candle to this show. It worries me that this may be her last work.

Honorable mention goes to Full Metal Alchemist, which, if not for Brotherhood helping to stem the tide of serious and non serious fans and giving other characters some major screen time, would have me deafened by horny teenage girls who all want to hug the cute short blond kids who cosplayed him.

As an occasional anime fan, I will second Psycho-Pass.

It's pretty dark, which is the way I like my anime, and it avoids a lot of irritating anime-isms like shoutiness and agonizingly slow pace. It takes a few episodes for the overarching plot to emerge, but the characters are interesting, the setting is great, and once the overarching plot gets going it raises very interesting questions.

Not recommended for anyone looking for a feel-good experience, but if you're like me, Psycho-Pass hits the spot. :)

So I was watching the first episode of a bunch of different animes just to see what struck my taste and I watched the first episode of Goblin Slayer cause it seemed like it was more of a classic D&D adventure set up and those are fun....

Holy s@@!, I think low level adventures are ruined for me now, I'll never enjoy being a murder hobbo invading a goblin lair again what with the near TPK and the rape and the dead goblin children.

My characters are just gonna stay at the inn and hide under the bed sucking their thumbs for now on.

Listen to the TOZ.

The first episode was designed to upset, appall, and generate all kinds of buzz.

The rest of the series is MUCH lighter. There are still lots of allusions to rape, and the violence is still bloody, but none of it holds a candle to the first episode.

On the other hand, I only considered it a "perfectly good" series, and didn't even recommend it to my friends, so there are better out there.

Oh, and I was trying to figure out my power and found a site that would calculate the cost of solar for you at your ZIP code.

At $3.75 per watt and 6 hours of useful sunlight a day, to get the requisite 25 kWh per day (my house is an energy sink) would cost:
(And yes, I AM doing the full dimensional analysis here just to irritate Freehold, though formatting will be crappy)
3.75 dollars/watt x 25 kWh/day x 1 day/6 hours = $15,625, roughly half of the $30,000 I've heard it costs to get a solar system put in.

(OK, I find it amusing that I am apparently installing a solar system in my house. Apparently my house is more Tardis-like than I gave it credit for.)

The guy will be out this week to give me a quote. I am all impatient curiosity.

And final post, since I'm suddenly in an "emergency" drill:

Why is it that companies insist that certification is the *only* way to ensure that partners are delivering a quality product, only to turn around and pay monkeys peanuts to develop the certification exam?

I'm on the hook because apparently several dozen of our certification exam questions are along the lines of:

"Which code would you use to enable automated assignment of records?"
(1) REC_AUTO_ASSIGN
(2) AUTO_ASSIGN_REC
(3) AUTO_REC_ASSIGN
(4) ASSIGN_AUTO_REC
(5) ASSIGN_REC_AUTO

So, unless the list includes, "I would behave like any rational developer and look at the doc instead of trusting my memory," they expect that this is an honest evaluation of the developer's skill.

Asking a developer how well he or she has memorized the tables in the documentation really doesn't seem like a good yardstick to measure their actual ability, IMHO.

Saturday, my mother-in-law let me off the hook for working in her attic because she was too tired and wanted to lie on her couch with a mug of tea and a murder mystery novel instead. (Actually, what she said was "I have too much work to do", but after 25 years, I understand her code.)

So I scrubbed all the tile floors on my hands and knees with a scrub brush to really get them clean, mopped, vacuumed, and gave the whole house a good cleaning. Which inspired the kids to VOLUNTARILY clean their room, which was nice.

While you are somewhat right, I'm not sure as to the intent of the first episode. Especially, as you've pointed out yourself, with the returning allusions and the way victims of the not so tender ministrations of the goblins are brought up and portrayed later on.

That said, it does feel a bit gratuitous and over the top compared to the rest of the series...to the point of where you can legitimately ask as to why including the initial episodes rape scene.
My personal best guess is that ultimately, showing beats explaining. If you talk about something like this, its harder not to somehow intellectualize it, compartmentalize and make it a subject of academic study and research.
Showing it makes that harder due to the sheer viseral nature of what being shown...its so much harder to distance yourself (intellectually and physically) from what's going on if your senses are being bombarded by the sicking sounds and the horribly sights of it all.

But then again that's just my two cents.

I hope the weather stays nice. I need to lose weight. I'm up about 30lbs since last summer. Doc thinks it's a depakote side effect. I really wanna walk it off cause that stuff is actually helping with the whole bipolar thing.

In Florida I used to lose a lot of weight during the winter when I could go outside and walk around without wanting to murder the sun. Up here there's three tolerable seasons (and hills, and a beautiful bike path to the next town) so I feel optimistic that I can get back down to my target.

Soon we'll pull the bikes out of storage, once I can train my dog to heel properly. Don't want him yanking my bike suddenly by the leash because he sees a squirrel.

My brother gained weight in summer in US because he ate too much ice-cream. He lost that weight during winter after he stopped eating ice-cream because it was so cold.

VE – you do NOT need to go out to burn calories(if weather is an issue, or in my case being unable to get into a gym class). Turn on youtube, get Tae Bo by Billy Blanks up, and follow along. You’ll burn calories, don’t worry. Tae Bo is a lot less jumping then body combat, and alot easier to find free, full 1 hour workout sessions of.

I can't do high-intensity workouts for a variety of reasons, chief among them having exercise-induced asthma, and at my weight it's very bad for my joints. Isn't that messed up? The bigger you get, the harder it becomes to lose the weight. That's a design flaw right up there with our primary light source causing cancer. I probably should've kept up my yoga habit over the years (I used to be quite good), but...well...I got no excuse for that one.

Cause this will go on forever I'm sure:
If "Because Economics" is reason enough for alcohol to be legal, then pot definitely should. It made Colorado a booming tourist industry, and Canada now is making a metric ton (get it? metric? Canada?) off of their recent law change.

(Side note: "Because Economics" is a horrible reason, in general, to allow anything. Unpaid workers, I would imagine, are good for an economy, but yet wouldn't you know slavery is immoral and illegal. Some things almost anything matters more than money.)

Seriously, Mort, not to be offensive, but no...just no. Alcohol, even when taken in account to per capita, ruins more lives than almost any other chemical that's out there. Please. Please do some research. You seem extremely smart. I wouldn't want you to be repeating something that's wrong in ignorance.

I know you're totally down with the government and stuff, but they do lie. I don't know about Singapore, but here in the US, they sure do - and it's been proven. People who worked for the individuals that pushed the propaganda have gone on record saying it was literally an excuse to arrest people who were against them politically (as well as to push racism, etc).

You might think "this is just some pothead defending his drug of choice." True, but I did a massive amount of research before I ever hit a joint in the form of peer-reviewed scholarly journals. I actually was a total straight-edge back then, and it was my own research that caused me to change my mind.

I'm not saying you should smoke weed. I really couldn't care less. But you shouldn't push an agenda against it, especially with the wrong information.

And I'm done. As I said...do research. But then, I imagine those who want to know the real information will, and those who don't will just continue to repeat themselves.

I used to be able to handle 10 without breaking down, but man...atrophy seems to happen so much faster once you pass 30.

Still proud I did it, though. And Hunter made it even more work, since every ten seconds or so I had to plant in the ground to keep him from tugging on the leash as I re-instill how to heel in the damn dog now that he's fully grown. He's getting better, though.

Well with the promise of lighter times to come I've continued watching Goblin Slayer and as crazy as it seems the first episode adds a lot to the following from the point of view of every scene seems to have much higher stakes than in a typical story.

In most stories there isn't much tension in the combat scenes, no matter how hard the heroes are pressed you're pretty sure they'll be fine, except perhaps for the occasional epic death.

In Goblin Slayer the first thing they hammer into your perceptions of the series is that anyone can die pointlessly and brutally and stuffed full of little green penises. They traumatize not the characters but you the watcher so that every brutal fight scene after makes you nervous about what you'll see if the characters f*%* up.

It's actually kind of genius, though I'm not sure if its a trick I ever want to see duplicated.

About low impact and less vigorous activities, whip up marc bosman's zumba gold series. Requires more space then Tae Bo and I once did it for an hour(was doing live demo for my aunt) but my breathing was still normal, though I did get warm and sweat a bit. And some usually unused muscles like around the hips were complaining(since I don't usually shake my hips or booty that much). Getting all paws coordinated to dance isn't as easy as it looks!

The Exchange

Honestly I'm not blasting weed use etc, I'm just saying with the vastly greater number of people using alcohol then weed, obviously there would be more people adversely affected by alcohol then weed. And giving reasons why alcohol is not banned thus far. Which I can understand. Whether the government chooses to legalise weed or not, I could care less, since I have no stake in it. Ain't my business. If its not banned, I might give it a careful try. If its banned, I won't because its against the law. Either way, no real loss.

If they chose to ban alcohol I would get pissed since there are legitimate culinary uses for it. Maybe weed too, but since I never learnt to cook with it, I dun care.

Not entirely true. The bigger you are the more calories you burn just by doing nothing, so any change diet wise will bring greater results. And not all workouts are high intensity - it may be possible to even find yoga on YouTube. I don't own a yoga mat and doing yoga on a hard wooden floor/marble floor is ow, so I never bothered to look.

Ahhh there it is

Again, I don't really do yoga that much because I'm inflexible as fk. I'm an embarrassment in yoga class. Touching my toes while bending forward is a sometimes thing for me. Sort of >< when you see people in class put their palms on the floor while bending forward.

Also yoga burns relatively few calories compared to other workouts, though I am slotting in a session every Weds to try to keep myself less stiff.

Oh shaddap NH, but you get what I mean? My flexibility is a joke. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hi could touch his toes but I can’t. I believe it’s my family curse – my brother and I always struggled with sit and reach portion of the school fitness tests. Ask us to jump, yeah we’re cool. Very cool in fact. I used to do like near 2m standing broad jumps back in high school. Not sure why but my jump distance has fallen to around 1.5m these days =(

Running…eh passable since in high school I didn’t train, but again I have quite a bit of willpower to run with. Sure, I’ll plod along, but I’ll keep plodding throughout the entire distance. I do not stop to walk. Shuttle run…sprinting ain’t my strongsuit, but I’m passable once I run barefoot to reduce turning timing.

Situps – I aced it since my brother made me do situps when I was younger (fat tummy, anyone?)

Inclined pull-ups, not very good…I told you about my lack of upper body strength, right?

It was the sit and reach station where I’d barely pass and thus not qualify for a silver or gold for my physical fitness test.

Honorable mention goes to Full Metal Alchemist, which, if not for Brotherhood helping to stem the tide of serious and non serious fans and giving other characters some major screen time, would have me deafened by horny teenage girls who all want to hug the cute short blond kids who cosplayed him.
