About Kilarra Norgorkin

Background: (Short Version):
Daughter of a Paladin and Priestess of Desna who were murdered when she was 2 years old. Taken by her parent’s murder and raised by the guild he worked for, they mistreated her in an effort to corrupt her and taught her the ways of information gathering, deception, thievery and killing. She worked in this capacity for the guild in the Nightstalls of Katapesh for 8 years before she used both what the guild had taught her as well as the connections she made there to eventually bring about the destruction of the guild that had so abused her. She now provides for herself having a general disregard for the rules but acting as she sees fit provided it is to help her friends as well as herself.

Background: (TL:DNR Version):
Kilarra’s parents were both champions of good. A Paladin and a Priestess of Desna named Tural and Niramour; they roamed the world for 8 years together, helping the wayward and needy travelers that they came upon. Destiny or perhaps divinity eventually lead the pair to the city of Katapesh where the deperate plight of so many souls weighed heavily on the two. Furthermore, soon after their arrival, Niramour discovered that she was pregnant. With a baby on the way and such great need all around them they decided to put their travels on hold and stay in Katapesh to both raise their child and serve in the local community. Despite the fact that they felt called to serve in Katapesh for the time being, they both felt that they were not called to stay long. Seeing the road as no place to raise a child they promised the child before her birth to the church upon reaching the age of 5 to serve the church and the city while they return to their travels in the service of their God.
They were exceptionally active and successful during their time in Katapesh, gaining ever more popularity with the local commoners. Their activities, however, brought them into opposition with many of the cities wealthy and powerful. After just three years and due in large part with their involvement in freeing a not insignificant number of slaves someone from the cities’ elite and powerful took out a contract on their lives.
On the night of their death a Tiefling assassin, Molos, drugged and killed Kilarra’s parents in their sleep. Molos, ever a fan of the gruesome, made quite the scene for those that would happen upon the bodies sometime later that day. Just after putting the finishing touches on his grand display that would serve as a stark warning to anyone else that may consider the ill-advised labor of slave emancipation, he heard a faint noise behind him. Turning, knife in hand and at the ready he faced an ever innocent 2 year old child who, uncharacteristically, remained calm and silent as she looked upon the scene before her. As a reflex, he began to move swiftly to exterminate this innocent child but stopped short, struck by the fact that, even in the face of this bloody collage and in spite of his threating approach, this thumbprint of a child simply stood there, staring calmly into his eyes without fear. All his life he had been looked upon with fear and loathing. Always guilty in the eyes of other despite the validity of such guilt or not due to his demonic heritage. Seeing this child and knowing that she would face a life free from all the hate and scorn that he was subjected to for no other reason than the nature of her birth. As the memories poured thru his mind be became ever more enraged at the unfair duality of life. Hating her for the mere fact that she would live such an easy life without earning it. With rage in his heart and a cruel ironic smile on his lips he once again renewed his deadly approach knowing that, just this once, this child would experience something horrible for no other reason than the fact that she was born an Aasimar. His hand plunged down, true and fast yet it did not find flesh but rather stuck soundly in the wooden floor where the child had just been. Was it by some otherworldly grace that she stepped aside…or perhaps it was the will of his patron God, Norgorber, who turned his hand aside? As he pondered this question, Kilarra stood there, so close he could feel her calm even breath on his face when it occurred to him. What greater murder could there be than to destroy this innocent girl’s kind and sweet soul? What greater weapon for his God could he master than to turn this child into an instrument of murder. She could do all that he is able to yet get away with so much more than for no other reason than the fact that she was born an Aasimar. The cruel twist of fate that played thru his mind was so sweet and cruel that he burst out laughing, caring little if someone heard him now. After the tragic comedy began to settle in he deftly scooped up the girl and made for the exit.
The Next 18 years would be especially harsh for Kilarra. First, wanting her to have no way to trace back her origins they changed her name to Kilarra Norgorkin in homage to their God Norgorber. To this day Kilarra does not know her real name nor does she know for sure if she ever had another name. Next, the guild did not want to allow her to form any real attachments in life. They needed her hard and cold so they changed her care-giver/trainer every 6-9 months.
In reality, Kilarra grew to appreciate this practice because she never really liked any of the people she was placed with anyway. Despite how unlikely it was, the guild had unwittingly given her a constant and renewable source of hope from knowing that she would be with someone else in the near future and the next person might just be better. That is not to say by any means that her life did not have exceptionally dark times where she was tempted to lose all hope. Many of her ‘caretakers’ took too much pleasure in exploring the many ways that they could torment and corrupt this child of angelic heritage. Kilarra suffered every form of abuse, from physical to emotional, sexual to verbal and everything in between. Somehow, looking in the mirror and seeing how dramatically different she appeared saved her. Some would think that she would become resentful of her uncommon heritage but despite her maltreatment, she saw beauty within herself. Kilarra has secretly long held the position that it is because when those who have given into the bleak decay of evil look upon her are reminded of just how hopeless their own lives have become and lash out at her in their pain. As a result, in some small way, she pities those who have chosen the path of self-destruction. These feeling do not stop her from defending herself in any way now that she is able. Nor does it cause her to hesitate to do what is required of her when the situation demands it but she still feels sorry for those stuck in the mire all the same. It is this constant reminder of the price one pays when you acquiesce to corruption that has bolstered her willpower in the darkest of times.
Last of all, Kilarra had been with the guild for 2 years and had shown so much potential, it became known that Kilarra was in fact promised to the church and while the memories of man may be short the memory of Gods are not. For fear that somehow their prize may find her way back to the church to which she rightfully belonged the guild decided to build in her a high level of cynicism concerning all churches. Despite first wanting to indoctrinate her as a fervent follower of Norgorber they instead settled for a tool committed to the labor of eliminating the ‘unworthy’ and ‘parasitic’ elements of this world. Unfortunately for the guild, while they thought they had control over who she deemed a parasite, this was not the case as Kilarra has always had a mind of her own and took little time in seeing the guild itself as just such an element to be cleansed.
From the Age of 7 she was made to work in and watch the activities of the Nightstalls of Katapesh. Using the favorable racial predisposition of the merchants she would provide the guild both information about the rumors and activities of the city while also facilitating a safe means by which they could buy and sell ill-gotten wears. One could say that irony is the only real constant in Kilarra’s life for it was by the skills of stealth, oberservation, diplomacy and deception that the guild taught her that she was about to bring about its eventual downfall. It was thru the connections she forged in the Nightstalls that she slowly brought this about. Carefully and methodically leaking random bits of information over 8 years concerning the guild’s activities coupled with feeding the guild partial truths and white lies about what she learned she eventually brought about the destruction of those that had so mistreated her. While she does not know of his involvement in her parent’s death, the one person who escaped her divine judgement was the very man who murdered her parents. Luckily for him he left the guild to ‘retire’ (work independently) 2 years before hand.

Description:
Kilarra is a Garuda-Blooded Aasimar who possesses a neigh unshakable will and is gifted with unparalleled grace. Average in height and true to her Angelic appearance she is fine of feature. Her charisma tarnished only by a somewhat reclusive and secretive nature. She wears Leather armor beneath an outfit ready made to move to the next place at a moment’s notice. It is uncommon to see her lower her hooded cloak even in the harshest of the sun’s heat keeping both her face and hair hidden from sight. With a short bow over one shoulder and a carefully hidden pair of Kukris at the small of her back she looks more the part of a hunter than anything else. Kilarra has always had a keen eye for a false tongue and a sharp ear for the spoken word. By the Age of 12 she was fluent in 6 different languages. Never having friends growing up, she acts quickly to come to the aid of what few allies she has earned later in life even if doing so means ‘bending a few rules’.
