M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() I'll start with a perception since I do not have Knowledge Nature. Wondering if it could be the roots, based on how you asked it. :) Ki rides slowly around the tree looking it up and down. Ears smells the around and looks too. Anyone know what this stuff looks like? Maybe it smells funny. Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Perception Assist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 ![]()

![]() Sorry to be dense, but I am still confused. Ki had announced he was a poor climber, moved back and recommended Kestrel climb. He missed his perception roll, but was no where near the trunk and certainly not climbing. His motto is "never get off the wolf". So if he was attacked, the serpent must have dropped down and is hanging from the canopy near Ki. Are we going with that? ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() Having a little trouble following. Was that attack in the surprise round? Since Ki was not the tree climber I was thinking he was not near the tree. I know its big so maybe he was just not near the trunk. If he was attacked the creature may be too close for him to charge it. ![]()

![]() Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 The wayang is surprised by the sudden attack from the creature but recovers quickly and readies his lance for a charge/ride by attack. As he spurs his mount forward he shouts Fight me you foul ambusher! This is a Challenge Lance Attack: Lance: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 232d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 + 1 = 13 ![]()

![]() Dead Boddies???!!! Eying the bodies in the trees, Ki tries to decide if they are animal or humanoid, and also for any signs of how they died. Are they caught up in branches, or do ropes hold them up? Careful friends. Others have attempted this task and did not fair well. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() Ki leaves a small stack of food for the fox and moves back to his companions. Lets look over what that Hobgoblin left us. he suggests once he is back with Ears and the party. Ki wants to continue at point. He is not in a big hurry and seems to enjoy the traveling, but is constantly aware of his surroundings. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() The cavalier hesitates, glancing back and forth between the wizard and the dwarf, who obviously favor mercy for this creature and then back to the hobgoblin who, in Ki's mind, only deserves a quick death. He finally reaches some conclusion and hisses at the hobgoblin. Your gear is forfeit. You owe your life to these two. And then to Bollon. Remove from him anything that might be used as a weapon. He has already demonstrated he is without honor, and he has lied to us in stating he would not attack others in the future, so his word is useless. I do not see why you wish him to live but I will bow to the will of the group. You realize that Ki is angered beyond reason from the attack from ambush. He must hold some moral code that condemns such actions. Moving to the fox he dismounts and moves up slowly, trying to calm the animal, and ask Thorid, is the leg broken? Does the fox require healing? Handle Animal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 If Thorid intends to heal the animal he will wait. Once Thorid is ready Ki will quickly move in and open the trap, releasing the animal. He almost expects an attack and braces himself for it, accepting this as the price to free the creature. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17 You have failed to impress me Hobgoblin. Perhaps you should try again and provide some reason you should live. Some value to us or to society in general. He lets the wolf snap and the prone goblinoid. bite: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 4 = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 ![]()

![]() Ki finally reigns in his wolf while still holding and pointing his lance at the Hobgoblin. The wolf continues to growl, not happy he is being denied his kill. This beast would eat your liver sniper. Your actions are without honor and your life is forfeit for your attempt on ours. Speak a reason why you should live quickly, or prepare to meet your Hobgoblin god. The strange small shadowy man is almost in a rage at being attacked from ambush. His lance is raised and poised to strike. It should be obvious to all that he will not hesitate long. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() The large ears that are the namesake of the wolf lay back flat against his head. He snarls and bolts forward towards the threatening archer. Charge: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 161d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 As he bolts forward Ki, caught off guard, tries to hold on. Ride: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() I take it my prowling around at night yielded no information as to the plight of the loggers? I had said I would go look to see if they were basically happy and well. Ki is fine joining the progression where ever he is needed but would prefer to be near the front. Ears is excited about getting under way and spends time sniffing all the gear as it is packed. Once mounted up Ki sits waiting for the others, his lance resting in its rest. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() With no takers, Ki mounts up and slips off to explore the camp. His goal is to see what is about, and talk to some employees while avoiding the foreman or his direct reports. He is interested in general well being and living conditions of the men, If any are sick, how they are treated, how much freedom they might have, etc. And of course if he sees anything out of the ordinary he will note it. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() Once back with the group: Travel was easy today. Ki notes. I could camp, or continue, depending on the will of the group. And once the group is well out of earshot from the foreman he adds Maybe I am too sensitive, but it could be that something is amiss here. That foreman gave poor reason for turning down Thorid's help. I wonder if we should look in on the men before we make camp. Could it be that the disease has indeed spread here? ![]()

![]() Ki pipes up from well in the front. Did someone say it was time for a lunch break? He rides back the line with a hopeful expression. I have not had a thing to eat since breakfast. he confesses. We Halflings need to eat 5 or 6 times a day to sustain ourselves. Ma always said so. ![]()
M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1
![]() Ki rides beside the lead wagon when the road is wide enough and offers to take point when it narrows so that he can not ride beside. He makes small talk with the driver as they travel talking mostly about how to handle a team of horses, and the pleasure of a good meal. ![]()

![]() The shadowy halfling explains. I do not hale from this area and do not know them. It is indeed fortunate that between us we have an idea of where to look. At the discussion of the witch he darkens even further. Any creature who takes the sight of another, willing or no, is not to be dealt with lightly. I will reserve judgement based on what I learn, but we might be doing this land a great deed to end her. ![]()

![]() Ki Anom is my name; Ki to friends and traveling companions. And this... he whistles loudly between two fingers and a grey wolf, pulls its loosely tied reins from a post and trots over. is Ears. He is indeed a bit more nimble than a horse. And your name my lady? ![]()
