The Scarlet Sentinels. An organization dedicated to training warriors focused on one tenant above all else. Loyalty. Loyalty to the cause they take up. Loyalty to those who serve, and those who serve alongside them. A Scarlet Sentinel is a warrior that not only would have your back in impossible odds, but support you in your mission from an emotional standpoint if you would let them.

Known mainly as bodyguards before the giants turned. The Scarlet Sentinels were a respected organization, trusted by many simple because they had no ambition beyond raising warriors. Alas, whilst respected and trusted, they had little in terms of allies. So when the giants turned, become aggressive and violent, many Sentinels died and their base of operations destroyed, without any coming to their aid.

Eventually, the Scarlet Sentinels were simply overwhelmed and had to retreat. Knowing that surviving above ground wasn’t possible, they retreated underground. The adults knew that they wouldn’t be able to survive, and were intent in teaching the children that they brought with them all the knew, to raise them as Scarlet Sentinels and allow the organization to come back into being when they could emerge from under the ground once more.

Karliah was one of the twenty or so children raised as a Scarlet Sentinel. Born curious and intelligent, she didn’t focus on combat training as much as the majority of the children did. Instead reading up on the world above, and dabbling in alchemy and healing. Whilst the other children dreamed of slaying the giants and restoring the Sentinels, Karliah dreamed mainly of exploring the wondrous world above.

Due to her lack of focus on combat training and inadequate food supplies, Karliah didn’t really build up any muscle. The fact she was less focused on combat than the others made her an outcast and a loner, thus she didn’t develop social skills very well. Intelligent and nimble however, Karliah learned her own ways to speak and fight, using her cunning to prepare and anticipate what her opponents were going to do before hand and create counters for them.

The lack of muscle and her alchemical ability most came in useful however, when disease struck the Scarlet Sentinels, attacking the muscles, draining the body as it tried to repair the muscles and slowly wasting away. Karliah was able to use her alchemical ability and knowledge to delay and eventually cure herself of the disease. However, whilst she and the remaining adult Sentinels did their best, the other ten remaining children passed away.

The only child left, the other Scarlet Sentinel’s turned their attentions entirely to her. Training her vigorously, teaching her to always be prepared, teaching her many items she could create and how she could use them against her opponents. Teaching her how to evade notice, to spot and disable traps. Everything they could in order to prepare her for the world above.

Now, with the last of them having passed away, Karliah is set to emerge from the underground into the world above... to finally see the sun and sky, and to re-establish the legacy of her guardians, The Scarlet Sentinels.
