Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

When Rose announced that the trail was going to be held private, Karliah scowled, briefly. It was just like that female... for all her talk about honour, and saying that Karliah had no right to question it. She was certainly fine going around giving her reasons to question it. Shaking her head in disgust, Karliah looked around, hoping to see where Siobhan was.

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“No, just an example.” Karliah said, shaking her head when Rose question whenever or not she was threatening her... and it made Karliah even more sure that Rose was not worthy of being a leader. That she was not a woman she was interested in to rebuild this world. Whilst she did follow in order to see the trail, Karliah made a note to herself to seek out this ‘Siobhan Beldam, sister of Rico Beldam’. Perhaps her group would better benefit from her service and skills...

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“You're the one say you want to kill him to ensure his silence. That’s the easy route in this situation.” Karliah said mildly, a little annoyed that Rose seemed to be focused on HER and HER alone. Not her decisions. Not her people. But HER. Gods, didn’t this woman get that it wasn’t all about her? "What next? Would you kill me in order to ensure I can't tell anyone else about the orb? After all, I know off it, and I have made no promises to keep it secret."

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“Killing a man to keep his silence is a dangerous road.” Karliah said, shaking her head slowly at Rose’s words and reasons, hoping that the woman would listen to her on this. “A wise man once said ‘The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions. Many extremists back in the day truly believed they were do what is right and just, yet when judged were condemned to hell.” If Karliah wanted Rose to accept and take into consideration one thing from here... it was this message. “The easy route is the one that leads to hell. The difficult route, the one in which you have to struggle and fight down. Is the route to heaven. The choice is yours in the end, but do not make a choice simply because it is the easiest.”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“Its funny how you accuse me of hubris, yet you are the one in danger of it.” Karliah said mildly, not at all minding the fact that Rose was threatening to kick her out of the place so swiftly. It was after all the type of leader she was. “You accuse me of calling your honour into question. When all I have done is criticize your decisions rationally and logically. You ask for a reason why I should not be kicked out, yet I have to ask why criticism is not allowed.”

Shaking her head, Karliah turned her head away, looking towards a cave wall as she thought. “Your decision to keep the orb hidden from the community with its temptations is sound. That much I agree with. Yet even without a written scripture of law, there is no excuse for not giving another the power to judge. You have firmly expressed the opinion that the murderer should be executed for his crimes. Therefore, any decision you shall make will be biased towards it. You claim that you are the only one that can pass judgement on others, yet you are the one in control here. You have the power to give others the right of judgement.”

Glancing back at Rose, Karliah finished off by saying. “Let me repeat. I do not call your honour into question, I am simply criticising the decisions you make before me. I do not see myself as a bastion of morality. Simply a woman capable of calm rational and logical decisions. A leader must be open to criticism, otherwise how are they to see when they are wrong?”

Whenever or not Karliah noticed how Talirin sent others to look over Rose as they found a private place to talk, the Scarlet Sentinel showed no signs. Instead, she raised an eyebrow when Rose showed asked her to follow, wondering why the privacy was so important... but mentally shrugged and followed. Curious what this voted leader would have to say to her.

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“And how will someone else being judge make a difference to that?” Karliah questioned when Rose came over, after saying that she should keep her consul to herself. “Are those five going to be the only ones in the trail? The only ones to judge him, and no one else there to see it? That hardly seems like a fair trial to me. Plus, you gave me even more reason not to preside over the trail. Your bias, with an alternative agenda to simply seeing justice done.”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“You shouldn’t act as the judge.” Karliah spoke up when Rose expressed that she would accept the trail as her people had spoken for it. That was a start, but Karliah wasn’t satisfied with how she was going to be the judge. “Your obviously biased towards handing him a death sentence. As a leader, you must know when to relegate tasks to others, and in this case, someone else needs to be the judge, someone who is going to be unbaised in their judgement.” Karliah wasn’t speaking for herself, but the possibility that she could fill the roll did cross her mind as she spoke.

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“The foundation of civilization is its laws, the courts ensure that the laws are carried out justly.” Karliah said, speaking loudly but firmly, almost scowling at how these two wished to simply kill the man due to sheer convenience. This was not a woman worth following... “The foundation of the court and due process is ‘Innocent before proven guilty’. Is it not our duty to rebuild the world? Is it not our duty, to rebuild civilization as we know it? Civilization survives over cooperation, and unity. The people speak clearly. A trail must be held, and Sam must be judged by all. Not just by one.”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“Make a jail.” Karliah spoke as she headed back towards the cavern with Rose and Talirin. It wasn’t exactly difficult for her to overhear Talirin discussing what needed to be done about Sam, and Karliah was determined not to let Sam die. “When the civilized world is all but gone, life is too few to extinguish so easily. And is that really how you want to start rebuilding the world? On top of corpses? It might take a long time, but any chance to salvage him, a chance to be taken. Your choice here is going to shape how people think of you forever down the line.”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

Karliah tilted her head for a few moments before sighing and shaking her head. “Whatever. Are we going to head back now, or are we just going to stand around talking?” Karliah was pretty sure they ALL had something else to do... especially when Karliah glanced back at the catfolk, saying. “Plus, I think I might be able to help training the guards. I’m not the best fighter around, but I’m decent enough.”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“You... intend to use me to test the guards?” Karliah said cautiously, the discussion about the magic orb could be left for later. Karliah had said her piece, and had nothing else she could say in that regards. She didn’t really know much about Rose after all... “May I ask how you intend to do so...?”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

As an expression of trust and peace, Karliah decided it was best to sheath her rapier, spreading her hands out wide to they could see she had no other weapons... and let them see them in case they suspected she might be attempting to cast any spells. “The wave of wickedness from the orb travelled pretty far.” She explained, Karliah hoping the truth would be enough.

“I was above ground at a forest that seemed burnt down when I felt it, so I investigated. Found the ruins and people vanishing into it, spotted a way down which led me to the encampment back there. Questioned the guards, they told me of the murder and how they were guarding the corridor in case the murderer came back. They let me pass and I spotted the side corridor.” Glancing back at Talirin, she said.

“I wouldn’t punish them to hard. I’m not a member of your group. Their priority was to keep the people safe, which they did.” Turning back to the orb, Karliah continued speaking. “Whilst I do not know what you care of for my advice, I would say do not destroy it yet. I’ve heard of evil items that seek to manipulate others due to having a malevolent force trapped within, and destroying it sets them free. You need to be sure of what the orb is before you destroy it.”

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“Well... that answers that...” Karliah said, eying the orb with a shudder of distaste, her instincts screamed at her to simply have it destroyed and be done with it... only Karliah’s mind warned her against it, saying that destroying something she didn’t understand was a baaaaad idea... turning to woman holding the orb, Karliah bowed, saying. “I assume you are Rose? Allow me to introduce myself, I am Karliah, last of the Scarlet Sentinels. I come to see if I could be of any aid, but it seems you have wrapped the situation up nicely by yourself.”

Nothing like overkill huh?

“Thanks.” Karliah said to the guards, glad that they weren’t getting in her way. She needed to move quickly in order to be able to help. The investigator pretty much spotted the side tunnel instantly, as well as signs of its use. With this in mind she quickly began to jog down it, still holding her rapier out at the ready in case she ran into any threats.

Female Human Polymath Investigator 4

“Well, that explains that.” Karliah said with a expression of distaste. She had just found the closest thing she had to civilization, and here she was. Right in the middle of a murder case... well, least it seemed to be relatively cut and dry currently. “Excuse me then, I’ll go and see if I can lend a hand.” The investigator didn’t wait for a reply as she tried to slip past the guards and stride down the corridor at a light jog. She knew better than to run for a long time, she didn’t have the great stamina.

Another village... Karliah wasn’t completely surprised by this. She had expected to find others having gone underground in order to survive, but she hadn’t expected to find one so easily. Or to find it in such a panic... grumbling a little under her breath, Karliah made her way other to the guards, asking. “Hey, what’s going on here? Why is everyone panicked, what was with the wave of wickedness?”

“Ruins, lovely.” Karliah muttered, not that she was surprised to see them of course. Considering the world had been at the mercy of the giants for fifteen years, the investigator would actually be surprised if any of the cities were in tact... but it was still sobering to see the cities in ruins. How could the new generation ever hope to make such cities, when they had to face their destoryers? Pushing those thoughts aside, Karliah began to gaze carefully at the city, trying to see where those two figures had vanished to.

The shift in pose when the sylph spotted her and talked to her was noticed by Karliah and made her feel a little uneasy. Before she could respond however, a wave of what she could only describe as pure vile wickedness swept over the area. Instinctively Karliah drew her rapir, but noted the aura wasn’t coming from the sylph herself. “Karliah, talk later. Best we go and investigate what the hell that was!” Without waiting for a reply Karliah began to advance, itching to run but not want to be aggressive to Nephele

These last few days had been both stressful and wonderful for Karliah. The investigator was relived to finally be out of the darkness... to be in this wonderful, wide world... but... well. Karliah was used to the darkness, used to having something over head. So when she first stepped outside of the underground bunker and into the light... it was frightening. For the world to open up around her, going on endless without an end... how did people live like this?!

But... Karliah was older than fifteen years, and whilst it was faint... Karliah could remember the time before her live underground. Of the wide open sky, of the bright warm sun... and the fear passed after an hour or so, allowing Karliah to take a deep breath and walk down away from her home for the majority of her life. It was time for her to explore... and spread the word of the Scarlet Sentinel’s Return to the world.

Thanks to her training in survival arts, Karliah was able to live of the land rather effectively, not wanting to use the food of her trail rations unless she needed to, knowing that the rations would keep for months without needing to be eaten, if not longer due to magical preservants. She was a little worried that the purple tinge to the water and plants would mean that they contained the poison, so she always boil everything, water and food alike before eating it, seeking to remove any poison.

Eventually though, things changed... Karliah came across a forested area that seemed to have been burned to the ground. Searching though it, the investigator was only able to find a necklace to slip into her haversack... and then she spotted the first signs of life, and it was not a human.

“Hello? What’s your name?” Karliah asked friendly, but cautiously. She didn’t know if this being was friend or foe, hence why Karliah didn’t approach, but didn’t lower a hand to her sword or grab one of her few prepared extracts. Instead, she studied the pale, frail looking humanoid in front of her, trying to figure out what she was.

Well, this is Fury of the Tempest introducing his character. Thank you very much Tall Tale Teller for accepting me into the game! Not sure how to start things off however.

Alright. This is a completed application of Fury of the Tempest's character. Hope the fluff is all good.

Okay, here is Fury of the Tempest's submisson.

Mythweavers Character Sheet

Background:
Volirath. The City of Invention. Tall crystal spires soared into the sky, competing to be the tallest and most fantastic of creations. Great golems roamed the streets. Some huge, clanking hissing monstrosities. Some smaller, quiet and graceful. Stores were filled with wondrous magical items, rare and potent alchemical ingredients, and books of great knowledge.

Is it any wonder that a child born into such a city, would be one of intelligence and knowledge?

Karliah’s parents are black powder specialists. Focusing on the construction and use of firearms and their munitions. Whilst Karliah went to school, learning how to read and write in the three main languages of Volirath. Common, Dwarven and Gnome, as well as basic maths and rudimentary science. It was at home where Karliah received her main education.

Alchemy in order to understand and construct the ammo and use black powder safety. Firearm construction in order to be able to strip, repair and rebuild any firearm that came into the shop in a short amount of time. And engineering, in order to construct the placements for artillery and know how to safely aim and fire them... but of course, when one uses firearms all the time, you learn how to use one.

Disliking the muskets, Karliah found herself preferring the simple pistol due to its speed and lightness. Once she began taking the optional fencing lessons as offered by the school, Karliah began working on a rather unique fighting style out of the bounds of normal training. Using her rapier and pistol in conjunction with one another. Bringing both melee and close ranged capabilities to her, though Karliah desires to be able to use her firearm at melee range for devastating damage...

Still, whilst she enjoys learning to fight, especially with her developing fighting style. It is alchemy which is Karliah’s main passion, and she hopes to learn much more about it. Not just as an alchemist, but to refine the black powder formula... after all. One doesn’t live in Volirath without aspirations to invention.
