Karana does her part to make sure those pups behave!
She’s a natural at it! ”Ohhh, good doggies—what fun!” Besides taking care of the pups, the goblin chieftain is her best friends daughter. She does what she can to make sure they’re satisfied with the arrangement and treated well by the people.
In summer 2019, I took a long trip and my character was lugging and caring for the unconscious man we rescued the entire time I was away irl. It’s kinda cool to have a task in these situations. Easier on the player too, because you won’t necessarily be in the loop regarding in-game conversation. I’m glad you made this call, @Kittenmancer. From my experience when I was new to Paizo boards, this is best for the player.

Karana says to the bugbear, ”I am so sorry… I am part owner, so if you cannot find a new place, I will welcome you should you return. It will not be noisy once this place is repaired.” She approached the hungry creature.

Karana signs, and gives assurance, “I will not hire any cousins—my entire family is dead. “Oh, but the chieftain of the Bumblebrashers is my childhood friend’s daughter, so, there is that familial connection.”
Karana becomes visibly nervous. “W-wait… we found a piece of paper. The Bumblebashers worked to make the otherwise abandoned citadel their home… “We are not about to evict them, are we? The chief is the daughter of my only childhood friend. I could never betray her!” Her words are not intended as accusatory. “Did you have a peaceful solution in mind that does allows the Bumblebrashers to stay?”
Karana whispers to Moonlight, “The one whose copper-tone curls bounce with every step, and are immune to disheveling, is Beau Gladhand.”
Karana giggles, finding Moonlight’s mannerism too witty to be insulted by. “I am sure you have a name too, but Moonlight is not it.” She covers her mouth. “That was not meant to be mean… I mean, is Moonlight a code name of some kind? Or a translation? Moonlight sounds prettier than Girl-With-Long-Dark-Hair.” She continues walking hoping she has Moonlight’s humor right. He must think I understand elf-humor. I know dog-humor better than elf-humor!
“Oh… ha ha! Where are my manners? “I am Karana Wonapalei, meaning the girl with the long, dark hair. It is a funny name. All the girls in my tribe have long, dark hair. Maybe I was born long-haired. ”I do not know why this is just occurring to me now.” Dropping the topic, she instead replies, “What temporary service do you have in mind, Mister Moonlight?”
Karana is fumbling for the right words. Miss Lyraine was a necromancer, but I always liked her, and she was hurt when… Moonwhat? Karana’s brows raise. “Oh, umm…… yes? What about the moonlight?”
All good with me!
Karana blasts a beam of healing light at the new friend!
She then ▶️steps behind allies to avoid further brutality against herself. “Does fire hurt or not hurt?” she asks him.
Ah, I guess I just saw the DM name come up. I tend to notice Ruby Phoenix posts… got a Lv.18 sprite monk in the early bits of book 3. Fun game! I used to be into martial arts and lived in Hong Kong, so the overall look and feel is especially appealing to me.
Karana darts out with bow in hand. She looses an arrow!
Karana follows Rinali. “Oh my goodness! Help is on the way,” she calls to the voice. “Oh—and the beautiful spiderlike lady is on our side!” Karana is aware her definition of beauty is different …except from Bea’s definition.

Karana embraces Kyrie. ”Kyrie… I will dearly miss you. You were my first friend in the civilized world from the day we met in Miss Lyraine’s book store.” And speaking of Voz, Kyrie says, ”Maybe if you ever feel that need to protect, you can make sure Miss Lyraine is okay.”
Yes, just reopened after a year. And we just hit Lv.5 today!
Karana is not crazy about this plan, but says, “If this is for our safety… I understand. But we should be careful voluntarily supporting the goblin’s wicked tastes. If we bring a fresh corpse without being asked, what will he demand of us next time? “We might embolden the little monster, or he might have passersby murder to add to his collection of fresh corpses.” All are wild guesses, she knows. “I am simply saying, the goblin king is not harmlessly mad. He is an evil runt. We may kill him if capable, we may build puppets of dry bones and laugh it off… fresh corpses? I feel this is an unnecessary path littered with unintended consequences.”
Karana takes in what the others are saying. “The civilized world is strange to me. Is it truly so simple that we find a paper, sign our names, and become rightful owners?” The last time she owned any type of building, she had built it herself. No other sentient beings were around. Not after my brother…
“You are brilliant, Bea! “…and, I am under the opinion pets always count.”
“Yes, a light would be no trouble at all.” Karana casts light on the webbing above the place Beau wishes to write. She likes the way it makes his hair seem to sparkle. She lies on her hammock an does not look at the sparkly hair.
Karana loves it. “Oh! I cannot spin a web as you do, but how fun it would be to walk along them!” She transforms into a tiny spider for a few minutes before resting on the hammock. And if anyone else needs healing, that comes before rest!
Karana watches in amazement as Renali descends. “Renali… you are beautiful! Analdi… you are the first of your kind I have seen. Please, do not feel you must hide your true form.” Karana does not need to touch-cast her healing spell, but she places her hand on the wound.
She asks Renali to lie still while she works more on the wound.
Karana says, “Please follow. I think our friend is hurt.” Karana is not in great shape herself, but she has healing magic and will not let a friend or an innocent die as long as Desna grants her the gift of healing. ”Renali,” she calls softly, voice partly drowned in worry, “speak or tap the ground if it is you. Be you human or spider, I am coming to your aid.”
Karana wonders if Renali can be a spider, the way she became an ape. It would not explain her disappearance, however. Karana steps in the direction the slider went, but does not stray from the party. She sniffs at the air.
Karana does not stabilize her enemies. She will help treat wounds.
Karana is less forgiving than usual. She ▶️follows and, if in reach, hurls fire at the running man.
Karana calls to her friends, “Careful… this is my last big healing spell!”
Karana draws her bow.
Karana heals Kyrie & Gofran.
Karana fights for survival.
Karana heals the fallen!
Karana reels in pain as her hairy flesh is roasted!
Karana then ▶️backs off and ▶️dismisses her Wild Shape so she can heal herself and others. “It is not easy being an ape,” she says meekly.
Ape Stats:
Karana stoops down so Bea can hold onto her. She descends the rope when Bea is ready.
Karana does have a rope. She finds a means to secure it before her transformation. “Please bear in mind that, even if I am a bear, I am still Me. I can comprehend your spoken word, but cannot speak it in my animal form.” She then begins to chant and dance. Her muscles bulge. Her head stretches. Her limbs become hairy. Her clothing becomes hair! Karana is a big ape! She gives Bea a toothy big-ape smile! “Ooh?” she asks (or offers?). Ape Stats:
Karana replies, “I have a rope. But Bea, if you are truly afraid of the height, I can carry you—not as I am now, but as an ape!”
“Well done, Bea,” Karana says, hurling some fire to melt any slippery spots created from Bea’s icy blasts.
Karana would sooner shoot the goblin than kneel to him, though oddly, she did not mind going out of her way to craft skeleton art. Perhaps because crafting is fun, whereas kneeling is feigning respect for one who demands it; therefore, deserves none. If the efforts resulted in peace where there would otherwise be bloodshed, it was worth it. ”Good thinking, Bea.”
Karana says, “I built my own home before I was a teenager. I can craft a skeleton …I think.” Karana will use whatever she can find so the structure is stable, and if she can manage, she will pose the skeleton standing with staff in right hand, looking ahead—“Like a true leader who cares...” …for his daughter. The pose she will attempt is based on her last memory of her father.
Karana smiles warmly.
“That is provided we find the parts. Only an aged and dried skeleton and skull will do. The fresh ones have a stench, so we will not offend his highness by killing a man or spider, which would most certainly stink up his throne room.”
Karana is prepared to back up diplomacy or violence. She listens, mentally prepared for goblins to speak their native language.
Karana immediately, very hastily—because it is necessary and not because an attractive gentleman requested it—casts light. “Beau, you need only ask and I will cast this spell to light the way.” She holds the glowing pebble that she had cast her spell upon. “You may hold this, or I can re-cast on a weapon tip or article of your clothing.”
“If the goblin now wears the wolf demon’s crown… and he made men fight each other, and could not be found…” Karana tries to piece together what has been seen and what has been told. “Is it possible he overtakes the bodies of his enemies? That, or simply being a shape-changer similar to that which I aspire to be, might explain the goblin king on the wolf demon’s throne.”
Karana greets everyone casually except for Beau, who gets a rather bright-eyed, “Good Morning, Beau. Are you feeling better after a night’s sleep that is probably good? I have prepared additional healing magic today, so we are better safe than sorry. That is what she said.” Realizing she is mixing colloquial phrases, she self-corrects: “As they say, I mean.” She blushes, smiles awkwardly, and tries not to stare at Beau’s amazing hair by focusing on the mission.
