This question has been asked before I'm sure, but when it comes to the entry:

[quote"PRD] Double: You can use a double weapon to fight as if fighting with two weapons, but if you do, you incur all the normal attack penalties associated with fighting with two weapons, just as if you were using a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. You can choose to wield one end of a double weapon two-handed, but it cannot be used as a double weapon when wielded in this way—only one end of the weapon can be used in any given round.

Does it mean only the attack penalties from the two-weapon fighting, or the damage penalties of a main-hand and off-hand weapon as well? Reading it specifically, I think it means only the attack penalties.

I ask because I'm making a character focused on the Meteor Hammer, and I want to get the damage right.

Thank you in advance!

Almost 200 years ago, when the land that was to become Nirmathas was still a vassal of the empire of Cheliax, the northern reaches of the Fangwood were a wild and untamed place. The crusades that laid low the Whispering Tyrant to the north were a distant memory, and those who remained were intent upon keeping the orcs of Belkzen and the remaining undead from Ustalav in check. As a result, the great forest was full of danger, from marauding orcs to deadly predators, making it unsafe for merchants hoping to trade with the growing community of Skelt in the foothills of the Mindspin Mountains to the west...

Today, the 2nd of Neth, is the day you'e first expected to be a hero. On the 4th, is where you will follow the footsteps of Ekat Kassen, the town's founder, to become a hero.

You could feel it... The wind picking up, the gentle cool breeze brushing past the townspeople, triggering shrieks of delight and somber thoughts of the mercenaries whom invaded their town, and were thwarted by Ekat Kassen, many years ago.

Whatever was planned, stopped completely when a knock was heard at your door. You open to find a young woman, dressed in dark somber clothes and holding a rolled up piece of parchment paper in her hand. She quickly hands you the parchment before leaving, the dark clothing contrasting with the bright blue sky and shining sun.

Letter:

Good morning!

You have been chosen to take on a rather important quest, one that spells doom during the winter if it is not fulfilled -- a Rite of Passage for most of our people, and a coming-of-age ceremony for those who return; we must ask that you travel to the crypts of Kassen, where our town's founder, Ekat Kassen lies in rest after his heroic battle against the mercenaries on the 4th of Neth, 4535, followed by his untimely death.

The traditional ceremony shall begin on the same day Kassen set off to fight the mercenaries, at the town square. We expect you to travel light, carrying only what you may absolutely need -- weapons, armor and the such -- as other supplies will be provided. I look forward to seeing you there, and we all thank you for taking on this task that we ask of you.

May the blessings of Erastil mark upon your mind and soul.

Mayor Jonark Uptal

Feel free to state how you will go about your day. As mentioned, today is the 2nd of Neth and the ceremony doesn't start until the 4th. Downtime rules could apply here, however there isn't much time to do too much considering you have two days.

Please refer to the People of Kassen and the Town of Kassen on the Campaign Info to see the different places and people you can go to and visit.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening,

Congratulations to all who have been accepted!

This is where it all begins, the introductions, getting to know each other, as well as where we will start and how I take care of certain rolls.

My true name is Elijah, but most people call me Eli. I am the father of one crazed yet gorgeous two-year old daughter, and work with taxes and escrow accounts for mortgages! I'm an aspiring author hoping to finish (and publish) my first book soon, and an excited GM almost all of the time!

Upon agreement, we will start this module a couple days ahead of the ceremony, not only so that (if you want to) your characters can get to know each other and the town itself, but also so that Mayor Uptal can make the first of many visits to your character and personally invite you to the "Rite of Passage".

When it comes to certain rolls, I tend to roll Initiative for everything and put it into a nice template. Similar creatures are the kind I tend to roll initiatives together, UNLESS one happens to stand out. Other than that, I put the extra potential rolls that characters can do in spoilers, and thus if you roll high enough, would be able to see its contents. I trust you all be able to have self-control if you can't see the Spoiler :P (or at least separation of in and out of character knowledge).

For those of you who have played this module before, it might be a little different. I have added some encounters and changed some, specifically for the reason that I am not only demented, but understanding that there are six of you. I will give you a run for your money, however I will not be out to kill you specifically.

All in all, I want this to be a wonderful story that in someway, I hope to write into a short one myself to show my future readers! (fingers crossed).

"...Where are the heroes? Where are the brave folk that will venture out to Kassen’s tomb and retrieve the flame to keep this community safe for another winter?”

This is a recruitment thread for the module Crypt of the Everflame which I am hoping to run. I'm specifically looking for good-aligned heroes wanting to forage out into the wilderness and into the ancient crypt to bring back a piece of the Everflame, so that they may have their names passed down in history like the great Ekat Kassen himself!

I'm looking for three additional characters that have intricate backstories that will connect them to the small town of Kassen, in the region of Nirmathas, and why they have taken refuge there if they are not originally from that region. The characters must have been there for several months prior to the start of the module so that the decision for them to take on this mantle is justified.

The reason I am looking for only three more is because the first spot is pre-filled until further notice.

Character Creation:

  • 1st Level
  • 20 Point Buy
  • Average Starting Gold for Class
  • Any class allowed, with the exception of Summoner, and the Occult Classes
  • All races, however those from the Advanced Race Guide must have compelling backgrounds that connect to the town of Kassen to be considered for approval. Human's must specify Ethnicity due to possible bonuses.
  • Max HP for 1st level; Player's choice of rolling OR Half HP+1 each level thereafter.
  • 2 Traits. 1 Drawback may be taken for an additional Trait. Please have the background story connect to the characters traits and how they would have gotten them!
  • Expectations:
I am looking to have 1 post a day during the weekdays and at least 1 post during the weekend. If more posts are made during the weekend, I'll accommodate with more posts myself. Be respectful, keep in-character and out-of-character knowledge seperate, and most of all... HAVE FUN!

So a small confession: This is my first PbP. I have much experience as a DM within PAthfinder itself and have one game ongoing as of now, multiple others in the past, however I wish this does not deter any person from wanting to join whether they are new like myself or a veteran!

If there are any other questions or concerns, please let me know! I'm hoping to get this ball rolling within a week, the sooner the better. The latest I'l accept applications would be 11:59 PM CT, July 22nd, 2015. I'll make the decision soon after, as well as the gameplay thread so we can get the first posts going!

    Good luck to everyone!

So the new crafting rules in Unchained really are something, huh? I have one concern when it comes to the compatibility of those crafting rules with the Skill Unlocks section of the book, as I am making a craft/rogue based character:

    Under Craft for Skill Unlocks:

    Craft
With sufficient ranks in Craft, you earn the following.
5 Ranks: When determining your weekly progress, double
the result of your Craft check before multiplying the result
    by the item’s DC.

10 Ranks: You do not ruin any of your raw materials unless
you fail a check by 10 or more.
15 Ranks: When you determine your progress, the result
of your check is how much work you complete each day in
    silver pieces.

20 Ranks: You can craft magic armor, magic weapons,
magic rings, and wondrous items that fall under your
category of Craft using the normal Craft rules.

Bold mine, the new rules for the Craft skill not only advise to work the Craft checks and DCs around a daily progress, but also have a set amount of progress per day, multiplied by how much you exceed the Crafting check. Would it be wrong to shift the ruling of the Skill Unlock for Craft around to accommodate the newer Craft rules? How would you go about this situation and others like it?

Thank you ahead of time for your help!

    So here is the situation,

I play in a group where my friends are the four PCs and I'm the GM. We're currently running through Carnival of Tears and they are relatively enjoying it. We've been playing on Saturdays until one of the PCs picked up a second job and couldn't play on Saturdays, which I didn't mind moving it to Sundays.

The issue is that another one of the PCs picked up a commission job and found that they could potentially gain more money if they worked on Sunday, and thus created an issue of basically having to choose either one player/day to play or the other.

Playing on the weekdays isn't possible because everyone including myself work those days and on different hours.

My question/concern is how to go about this situation without causing any kind of strife.

The player who now cannot play on Sundays has shown some sadness that he couldn't play, while the other player who can't play on Saturdays is showing continuous interest in the campaign.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello all, first time posting here!

I'm currently running my players through Carnival of Tears, and from what I understand, the results of how my players do reflects on how many people were killed during the carnival. The question is:

How do I gauge how much time has passed to calculate how many people have been killed, provided that certain amount of people are killed each hour? The way it is explained is very vague and I could only assume is that the time is abstract (DM's judgement), in which case, what would be the best way to gauge it?

This is just one specific situation, but I'd like to know for any other future encounters I may broil up for my players that are like this.

Thank you for your answers ahead of time!
