Course I'm sure the skills/feats you have planned out wouldn't help a fighter too terribly much. I suppose it might be mostly just overlapping classes than overlapping roles. Kaina's planned to be more of an aggressive beatstick than a skill monkey. The level dips (lore warden, manoeuvre master, and eventually Living Monolith) are all to enhance his ability to get extra sneak attacks via trips and grapples. It wouldn't make much difference overall to make ninja a dip and lore warden his main class instead. ![]()
![]() I feel ya Tinder. Kaina's doesn't have much in common with most of these rather Chaotic characters either. The only one I interacted with much the last couple days is the other cat, and I doubt we'd both (if either) be included in the group - especially given our overlapping role. There's another Mummy's Mask recruitment thread that's been around for a few days (I came up with another character for that one - who might actually have been a better fit here) but there's been next to no activity there except for the occasional new entrant. Either way, this has been a fun process and gave me a better grasp on Kaina. ![]()
![]() Having got his frustrations off his chest, Kaina returns to his seat without waiting on a response. He slumps back down, finishes his beer, and waves for another. Zanac wrote: Zanac landed in a seat next to Kaina with a thump and began talking in catfolk again. "Now then my friend, I fear you have me at a disadvantage. You seem to know who I am but I don't know the same about you. But as you have noticed, my name is Zanac so what's yours?" (in Catfolk)Sorry about that; it was rude to use your name before we actually introduced ourselves. I was worried that that was going to turn into a general brawl out there. Anyhow, I'm Kaina. Grew up in the deserts around Osirion; mostly west and north of here. Came to town when the Pharaoh said that he wanted the necropolis explored. Figured there ought to be a local or two involved. You're not local though; where do you come from? ![]()
![]() Kaina wanders over to Bridgitte and interrupts the conversation. He's still confused by the recent events, and it has made him irritable. The world should make sense. Our ruler makes a decision, and the people follow it. There should not be all this - politics - about who and how and why. I do not understand what the purpose of this dishonorable deception was. Nor do I understand what this rift among the Pharasmans has to do with the divine mission that the Ruby Prince has declared shall be undertaken. If you wished to know who I am, you had only to ask. I am the humble servant of Osirion and the Pharaoh. I seek only to serve my nation and my Prince. And I appreciate neither being deceived nor being involved in whatever conflict your group has with the clerics outside. ![]()
![]() Kaina walks toward the pile of stones, speaking quietly, mostly to himself. I am very confused as to what has happened. The newcomers spoke against the Pharaoh, but the priests intended for those who heed the Pharaoh's call to be killed... How do I heed the Pharaoh's wishes if none of those involved in the lottery are proper servants? He picks up a stone, and returns to the Macau, and returns to his seat at the bar. He doesn't even remember to look at the number until after he's already begun drinking his beer. stone: 1d1000 ⇒ 522 ![]()

![]() Kaina becomes visibly tense as he watches the unfolding drama. His instinct is to intervene, but he is unsure as to which side is in the wrong. Know(religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Do I have any idea which, if either, group are acting more like proper Pharasmans? (In ancient Osiriani, to Akina)Great one, who do we support? These newcomers are denigrating the great Pharaoh and therefore seem suspect to me. But what if they tell the truth about the priests? (In catfolk, to Zanac, if he's close enough to hear)Zanac, we should try to prepare all the contestants to join the fight in an organized manner. Surely if we all work together, we will prevail. ![]()
![]() Yeah; yours is the only male catfolk icon available, but looks even less like leopard-ish than this one does. I think this one is the least distinctly female looking of the three female catfolk icons, so it's what I went with. There's not really anything in Kaina's character or backstory that requires him to be male; I could easily just switch him to be a her instead. ![]()

Assuming that kills it from this point Yes! Now, to find the cook...

![]() What is this? Can it be true? The clerics are giving us free rats as our test? What wonderful news! Now Genesar Tinq's cook will surely be able to prepare my favorite dish for me! Once his turn comes, Kaina speaks to the cleric before lowering himself into a sprinter's position, tail twitching, waiting for his prey to appear. Make sure it is a nice big juicy one, oh wise one. I have been killing my own meals since I was but a small cub and have come to enjoy it so. As soon as the rat takes form, Kaina bolts toward it - at first all four of his paws are on the ground, but as he draws close to it, he has risen up so that his deadly claws are free to rake the doomed rat. Charge attack, single claw, w/ power attack Claw, charge bonus, power attack penalty: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 - 1 = 9 Bugger. The dice roller hates me. Now I have to rewrite the rest of my post. Kaina's overeagerness thwarts his attack, as he misses the rat completely. And now his initial aggressiveness is going to cost him - the rat can hardly be expected to miss the foolish catfolk. Still, a meal hard earned tastes the sweeter! Kaina will full attack power attack with both claws on his next turn - assuming that the rat isn't able to kill him outright. ![]()

He would keep a watchful eye on them and see if the local women were as easy to flirt with as the others he was used to back home but his fathers first rule was 'attend to business first, a woman second'. I know the avatar I chose is listed as being for a female catfolk, but Kaina's actually meant to be male. There just aren't very many cat pics to choose from on the boards (for shame Paizo. This is the internet. There should be dozens of cat pics.) and none of them are leopard spotted either. Thorin, why don't you come sit with Ryuu, Charlotte, and I? You can provide amusement while Charlotte tells me of her studies of Osirian history. In return, I will tell her of catfolk, and try to keep her from being overwhelmed by all the strange people here. ![]()
![]() Akina of Wati wrote: "At least you look like you have something on your mind besides simple plunder. I am Akina, First Daughter of Zuri, Cousin of Khemet III, and native of Wati. And you are?" (Continuing to address Akina in Ancient Osiriani)I am known simply as Kaina great one. My people have lived in the deserts of Osirion for many hundreds of years, but most have forgotten the old ways. When I was born, my mother saw that I was destined to serve Osirion, and saw to it that I learned of the Old Gods that I would know how best to be of use. My brothers however, are the ones who taught me how to fight. I fear that the latter lesson may be of more immediate use in the coming months. I must also admit that I am grateful that his divine eminence, the Ruby Prince chose to allow all who wish to explore to enter the lottery. I would almost certainly have never been allotted even the small chance of access otherwise. Noyte Ruo wrote: "You there," he states nodding at the pair. "Do you have any requests". He hears the band gasp behind him. Kaina requests a song that he enjoys, mostly for the melody as it is simply a paean written in honour of a minor Pharaoh. It is highly unlikely that either Noyte or the band actually know the piece however, as it is an ancient song, written centuries ago, and known to him only because of an old book his mother happened on and gave him to help learn the ancient language of Osirion. Dolarre wrote:
(in common again) Good afternoon, friend; my name is Kaina. Do not be startled by my appearance. Or by Genesar's enthusiasm. We are both harmless. Our host has a point as well - there is a time for meditation, and a time for conversation. It is best to meditate when one is alone, because conversation only works well when one is not alone. Come, try some of Genesar's beer; it will soothe your thirst nearly as well as water, but is also nutritious and delicious. Plus, a bartender who is selling you something is a much happier bartender than one who thinks you're just taking up space that could contain a paying customer. ![]()
![]() (In ancient Osiriani)Oh great noble lady, we must trust that the Pharaoh knows best. Even if some of the treasures of our great and ancient land should end up in the hands of foreigners, and our cities teem with the uncivilized people of younger nations, surely reminding the world of the majesty of eternal Osirion is worth the cost? ![]()
![]() A smallish, leopard-spotted catfolk enters the common room, listens to the music for a minute, then approaches the bar, and orders a beer from the proprietor, who recognizes him from his regular visits for the past several weeks. There are certainly an interesting group of would-be treasure hunters in town Ganesar. I wonder how many of them truly hold the interests of Osirion in high regard? Truly, it gladdens my heart to see the great Pharaoh's plans to recover the ancient history of Wati are going to come to fruition. I do hope that some of that ancient history remains within Osirion's great cities when all is finished. I know we're supposed to be submitting core races by in large, but I've been wanting to playing Kaina in a Mummy's Mask game since it was first announced. Background and stats are in the profile. |
