It was only at 1, so I believe so.

I don't know why I thought it was 2, it'll go to HP instead.

Wouldn't it cost 15 to buy off the phobia entirely? Plus, narratively, he wouldn't be cleansed of his fear yet. Am I misunderstanding sonething here?

John was definitely with Teal on the partying idea. Begrudgingly when the two weeks were up, though, he was there. He had reasons he needed to explore.

Point Spending:

John spent 5 points to lower his fear of the dark. The last mission seemed to address it fairly head on. 2 points on perception, and 1 increasing my body language skill. Just making sure I do this right.

'But who? Who could make a promise like that? And why would I matter?'

"Prithee, if anyone can, what is it, decode this, I only know what I do from my expertise on the occult."

Putting the letter aside, John opens up the tome to see if there was anything special about this particular copy of the tome.

Not specifically, but I have a Theology skill specific to the cult and Occultism if either help me. I have a history with these guys. If it's just encoded and it's nothing I could just know, then lolnope.

John rekindles the fire immediately, filling the cave back with light. With that, he lit his torch back to full glory before going outside to retrieve his pack.

"Pray, might I have a look at the tome and the letter that these men carried?"

Provided there was no resistance; John took both and started examining the letter first hoping to better understand the cultists presence here.

You might could help me awaken my shadow abilities later too. We're getting a healthy dose of my story now. After this, my character will be all sorts of confused about himself in that regard. I'm fairly excited about it.

Gavin, it's doubtful. The fire was still smoldering and John has a torch, though he's doing his best to smother the light so that it doesn't fill the cave.

I orginally had this character a dabbling mage, but I decided to have him grow into those abilities. That's something I'm liking about this system. Growth seems smoother and more directed. Not like 'lol we beat that dragon, I guess I know more first level spells now'.

No offense to Pathfinder. Great system. There are just some stories that can't be told appropriately with it.

John ran into the cave, doing his best to prevent as much of the cave from being illuminated by his torch as possible. From what he could tell, Aurora had either taken a hit or had a very close call. He decided to do his best to help her.

Knife (14): 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3) = 5
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

I know my damage bonus is either +1 or -1 depending on swinging or thrusting but I'm posting from my phone. So I dunno which is what.

John ran up to the entrance of the cave, torch still in hand, and waited just outside of it to the flank of the entrance. He readied himself in case he was needed, but avoided letting the light from his torch enter the cave. He wanted his former affiliates to feel the darkness. He pulled one of his daggers from his belt after dropping his pack to the ground, allowing him freedom to move quicker. He anxiously awaited the eminent struggle.

"They, uhh... verily, they are deathly afraid of the dark from what I remember."

Aldith shrugged with the shoulder connected to the arm that was holding the torch.

"If you are up to it, putting out their fire may be a strong strategy."

Aldith creeped quietly back to the rest of the group, lighting a torch just before reaching the edge of the firelight coming from the cave. Ad soon ad his torch was lit, he was visibly less anxious to anyone able to see him.

Stealth (15): 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7

Difference of 8.

'I can't remain out here much longer, not with dusk approaching.'

Aldith spoke quietly once more, using the sound of the cultists conversation and fire as cover.

"Whatever we do, we do it before dark."

He then slowly pulled a torch out of his pack. The darker it got outside, the more anxious he got.

'Look at me. How can they think I'm shadowmarked?'

He whispered very quietly in such a way that his voice wouldn't carry into the cave.

"Verily, I am not certain what the Solar Stigmata is... but I can tell you that the Shadowmarked is a person they believe will destroy them and possibly everything."

There is a notable bit of nervousness in his voice.

"I don't know who, but they seem to think such a person is here."

Aldith, vaguely overhearing the cultists, shook his head in denial.

'They must be speaking of another. Or, mayhap they accuse me for leaving. I have to find out how they got here. And figure out why me.'

He stopped before making it to the cave to await what the others would say. No need to give away what he actually knows if it isn't important for the time being. Aldith needed his new comrades to not see him as a danger to them and this would certainly be getting off to a bad start.

"From where I come, religion is a way of coping with that which you don't understand... or that which you fear. What I know of these cultists is that they're vile. Hostile, mayhap. They likely will not travel at night, however."

Aldith stood, thinking hard before making himself seem dull before these more advanced individuals.

"Where I hail, there is a group of unsavory individuals. They are worshipers of Sol, the personified Sun god."

Aldith took a short pause, deciding whether or not to include that he has any connection to the cult. Deciding to leave that bit of information out, he continued;

"Verily, I believe what I saw is some of their followers... when the storm lifted. Where I am from, n'er had I witnessed magic. Nor was I aware that there was any rumor that the cult had access to magic. I recognize their cloaks, but wherefore they show themselves here, I do not know.."

Aldith sat, looking over his clothes for tears or holes.

"Normal hurricanes are bad enough."

Aldith had been standing in silence just trying to keep up with everything that had been going on between his comrades. Something he was clearly going to have to get used to.

Sorry, friends. Real life happened for a couple of days there and I was without much of a way to give you a heads up. If it happens again, I'll do what I can to let you know ahead of time.

Leaning back in a chair in the corner of the room with his feet propped up on a nearby object, Aldith slowly wakes up to the multitude of voices now filling a nearby room.

"Oh, clouted batfowling..." He mumbled under his breath as he quickly stood and made his way toward the others to take a seat, if only to pretend he had any idea what was being said.

"My apologies, milady. I had not realized how much time had passed since my arrival." He said fighting a yawn. "Prithee, forgive my rudeness."


Scaffold Kane here. I have something thrown together in this alias. I'll write a backstory a bit later, but I'm still getting a grasp on how it all works.
