*History (Choose a general area of interest)
*First aid
*Guns(Pistols) TL8
*Shortsword
*Karate/Brawl
*Stealth
*Survival (Plains)

We are assuming that this group has passed basic training by some means or another. However, since this isn't a typical team of Homeliners... The training was utilized to gauge their personal abilities. This was all done on each of the members home world. They were trained by patrolmen then, once completed, transported to Mummut via Conveyor.

Under Special order, the team is being over seen before the official class and training of the typical cycle.

Hmm, okay, that means I should change out a bit of stuff.

Flynn would refuse to take a pistol with him; if it's alright, I'd like to replace all the weapon skills with less violent ones (staff instead of shortsword, and a single point in judo instead of the ones in pistols and karate).

Also tailoring the backstory a bit—he was trained by a rogue time traveler, but after that attempted to volunteer with the Miracle Workers on Homeworld, before doing too well on an aptitude test and being talked into joining the Corps.

BATTLE MAP

I accept your alterations. Fits well.

Well.....Duchess has no need for any of the equipment really, but might carry it around just in case! As for skills, she basically uses whatever abilities the form she takes has...sorry still feeling my way around this character...its like getting to play hundreds of creatrues all at once..lol

Also will get alias up asap

BATTLE MAP

Awesome Sauce.

Well... the way Morph works, it doesn't actually provide any skills other than those present in a racial template (occasionally brawling, etc). You can get the skilslot advantage if you want to be able to morph your skills as well... but assuming you ever want to take human form, some of the equipment (and definitely suitable armor) is probably useful to blend in.

BATTLE MAP

Once again, the beard makes an entirely valid point.

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

I kinda pictured Duchess as an animal morph with human intelligence, able to take on any animal shape. Was looking for some way to represent this "Limited" form of morphing (animals only), but there really is not something like that...that I could find!!

BATTLE MAP

Well, lets make it.

Apply a "Mundane Earth Animals Only" Limitation and say...-25%?

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Would prehistoric animals fall under that scope? If yes, then I like it!! Also added the "power" behind her abilities is nanotech...so her natural form would be a swarm of nanites!

BATTLE MAP

Yes, Prehistoric animals apply. For simplicity try and stick to the premade book templates for the critters your morph into. I'd even go so far to advise that you set up a few preselected blocks on your page for favored animals.

Will further specify by saying that when I say Earth animals, I mean our own earth. So...not Venus fly traps that some how learned to move.

BATTLE MAP

Natural Form may wish to take some Machine Meta-trait(s). also.

Hmm. So I shuffled some points around... should now be able to use magic to temporarily create most small mundane devices, instead of the Gizmos ability... which I still might want to take if we wind up assigned to no-magic worlds.

Also, huh. Nanite swarm might imply some resistances of some sort? (And as a morph, you can only turn into forms you've studied; since you've got amnesia, you probably have a limited set of starting forms that can be added to).

BATTLE MAP

Agreed.
To both having Gizmo and Amnesia having a bit of an issue.

Dan, for now, select 4 creatures that you "Remember" Being able to turn into. We'll add more as your abilities unlock.

How do you intend to communicate if you cannot speak? It's important to know.

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Mostly by gestures and actions...but also I am thinking she might be able to alter her pigmentation to make shapes and symbols as well (sort of mini-morphing, I suppose)

BATTLE MAP

Sounds interesting.
Alrighty, well the Game play page is up.

Cannot speak at -15 means you can't duplicate human voices, I suppose. The Character Guide actually recommends such characters learn sign language.

BATTLE MAP

Let's see how it goes in game.
He's proposed a communication akin to cuddle fish. I'm intrigued.

BATTLE MAP

I'm going to make an assumption that all gear that is not directly on you, is currently in storage within the Conveyor that ported you in to Mummut. Unless you have objections.

So... Flynn will eventually be able to open timeline/teleportation/anything else gates on his own with magic, but there's a LOT of pre-reqs before we get there. Just FYI.

Also, I can act as a teacher to train other group members in skills, magic, etc. because of my teaching skill, if that becomes relevant.

And John—don't forget to add the campaign skills and equipment.

BATTLE MAP

Sexy, Flynn.
I should add that between each mission, ill be rolling 2d to determine time between mission in days. So that will aid. On top of that each mission will give a lump some of money and Points as well. Woo!

Am I okay to jump into the IC thread?

BATTLE MAP

Bahaha...yeah. just a late arrival.

BATTLE MAP

If you find your selves in Null Magic worlds, one can try introduce magic to small area or themselves with some kind of Magic Amplifier. It's also an advantage in the core character book.

It's an *expensive* advantage, of course. And I built the character first without magic, so it should probably be okay, other than me not being able to cast useful spells on everyone else.

Also, @Aurora: turns out the Fantasy guide actually describes a set of rules for shapeshifting or chameleon races to cast magic using mathematical/ritualized patterns on their skin, so that's a possibility for you.

Morph - HP: 10/10 | Will:11 | Per:11 | FP: 11/11 | all other by form taken

Thanks Flynn..I will check it out and see how it fits!

HP 12/12, FP 10/10, Per 14, Will 14, Parry 11 (13 with low mana), Deflect Missile/Turn Blade 15 (with high mana)

Basically:

Devilfish Magic:

Because they communicate by change in skin color and pattern rather than by speech, devilfish can’t cast spells by speaking. The magically effective patterns on a devilfish mage’s skin work the same way as tattoos or makeup (see Tattoos, p. 166). Because forming images in this way is natural to devilfish, they aren’t limited by their skill in Body Art or Makeup; they sim- ply roll against Symbol Drawing (see Symbols and Magic, p. 166).
For devilfish magic, ignore the usual effects of skill with a spell on the need to speak. Instead, use the rules for adjusting Symbol Drawing skill for the size of the symbols (p. 220). If the devilfish is maintaining a spell, note what part of its skin the spell is occu- pying, and take that into account in determining the difficulty of casting new spells, as discussed for tattoos.

The symbol-based magic rules basically say you roll against the minimum of your Symbol Drawing skill or skill with the spell. Normally such spells take extra time, but not if you can form them instantly instead of tracing them by hand, I assume.

The tattoo rules basically say that spells should be written on a part of your body corresponding to their effect, and give modifiers for how close to that area you write them and how large you make them.

It wouldn't be hard for you to learn Symbol Drawing and some basic spells, if you were interested, while Symbol Magic, though harder to cast (since you need the symbol skill), has no verbal component.

Morph - HP: 10/10 | Will:11 | Per:11 | FP: 11/11 | all other by form taken

I made a slight alteration to Aurora. I realized that I had forgotten to add back in her naturalist skill, and did not have many points left. Also with her having limited shapes (at the moment) I thought a Limitation added to her morph skill to reflect this would work. I modeled it after the Limited Uses. She can "buy" off this limitation as time goes on, but for now has the ability to take only 5 shapes (4 we have already sorted out). Does that sound ok? Also due to her amnesia I only gave her 2 skills at the moment, Brawl and naturalist...to reflect the animistic nature of her character at this time.
What do you think?

Morph - HP: 10/10 | Will:11 | Per:11 | FP: 11/11 | all other by form taken

That might be interesting for Aurora in the future...it could be seen as code writing that allows her nanobots to replicate a spell....interesting idea!!

Well, no... but most of the Infinite Worlds (at least the closer ones) have languages similar or identical to Earth languages.

There's rules in the setting guide for loading palmtops with local data files, etc., and Flynn's pockets are full of hidden cameras/microphones and whatnot, while he can stream a live data feed to the mini-HUD in his contact lenses. Which means if he had voice-to-text running on his computer, with translation software operative, he could probably stream translations in both directions across his field of vision—at least for common languages like French, Spanish, Chinese, etc.

It would probably work for anyone with a bit of research skill and maybe some electronics use, but probably also take some custom work or special help to rig together back on a world with real tech.

Sounds exceedingly helpful.

And very limited in batteries, and probably not all that water-safe. Not sure how much it would mess with balance, but it definitely seems feasible with the technology.

Oh? I mean, the technology has existed for about five years... maybe a bit of engineer skill to rig up an IP computer with an extra-crisp microphone (and playback to a custom screen), but that's about all that's necessary.

HP: 12/12, WILL 11, PER 11, Dodge: 11, Influence: +3, Attractive

The more we get into this, the more appropriate I begin thinking my space pirate/engineer/pilot idea would have been. XD

Male Probably human Computer Scientist 1/ Character Synthesizer 20/ Crazy 99

Hello! I know I've got a while to go before I get to join you guys, but I'm still working on my character, and the GM was kind enough to let me seek feedback here. I've been working on Jaq's background, so any ideas for that, and her build, are most welcome.

Wall of text Background:

Race: Human
Ethnicity: Vietnamese/Gaelic
Age: 22
DOB: 2030 - 04 - 18
Profession: Mercenary, Engineering Student

=========

Background:
Jaquline Cho was born April 18, 2030. While not a genius, she was intelligent and easily made friends, but while girls her age gossiped and talked about boys, make-up, and the latest fashions, she found herself with a growing obsession with robotics, engineering, and firearms. By the time she was sixteen she had become a fair programmer, coding a few games, as well as skilled with CAD programs, having cut her teeth on her fathers workstation. Despite being a genial sort, she had few friends, with her twin obsessions and her almost instinctual need to know what was going on with other people.

She graduated high school with a full scholarship to MIT, which was not only the premiere engineering and technology school, it was also home to some of the worst cases of nepotism in academia. Jaquline took up a program of study that was staggering to the professors, though she proved capable of more than meeting her obligations as a student. She wanted to learn more about robotics, computers, electronics, and various other engineering fields, including ballistics. Two years passed, and then war suddenly broke out.

Expecting a dire need of manpower, the United States drafted everyone it could as a coalition of oil producing nations, the Power Alliance they called themselves, struck out at the various green power plants and receiving stations in the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Central America, and the Caribbean. But the strained economies couldn’t support the effort, and almost at once the entire edifice collapsed. Civil wars raged in those states as warlord vied for power and the common people starved.

Jaquline, though, found that those were not the only problems. Shortly after being drafted, a new student evaluation board had been selected. Unfortunately for the young woman, she wasn’t well connected enough to justify keeping around in her eyes, and an incident from her freshman year, a harmless prank on the main campus server, was blown all out of proportion and Jaquline found herself returning home bare hours after returning to MIT from the Army post. In need of funds for her education and to support herself, she began hunting in the personnel glutted economy and after a few months of no luck, and as a shared joke between her and her father, who was a former USMC non-com, applied with one of the PMCs advertising. To their shared surprise, Jaquline was called in for an interview, then accepted. The next year was a hard one. The unit she had signed up with, the Memphis Belle Security Group, had been sent out on the worst jobs, rooting out hardened war lords and their troops with grim efficiency. Then came a mission to patrol the worst of the regions, nicknamed Satan’s Playpen for the atrocities committed and the stifling heat present there.

Jaquline was assigned as the point man for the lead fire team in her platoon that trip, and that was the assignment that saved her life when her platoon’s V-22 was targeted by an ambush. The aircraft was forced to crash land in a flat valley between two ridges. Before the escorting gunships could circle around to support the troops in the downed craft, two high explosive missiles screamed form where their firers had popped out of their foxholes towards the downed craft.

Jaquline, wasting no time was out of the cargo bay barely a second after the craft had settled, the battlesuit she wore keeping her from being knocked senseless. It also was the only thing that kept her from being killed when two explosions ripped the V-22 a scant fifteen feet behind her to shreds. The concussion slamming her into the ground just before the fireball of hydrogen and explosive compounds washed over her. She never heard the gunships avenge her fallen comrades, nor did they notice her through the plume of smoke.

The next think Jaquline knew, it was dark, and the first peppering of stars was beginning to appear. Her body was too numb to move, and not numb enough to close out the agony of her battered body. Through blurring tears she saw a man in a black and blue uniform with the crest of a dove and a raven on one sleeve. He called out, “Hey, we have a live one!"

Then the world went black.

=== The Pile ===

It had been nearly six months since the young woman had been brought in with numerous broken bones and more bruises than skin showing on her body. Now though, there was only the coma, though from everything the doctors could tell, she should be waking up any day now.

“Whu-“ she croaked from a parched throat as her eyes fluttered open.

“Easy now,” a nurse said as he walked in. “How are you feeling?"

“Like one o’ my grandpapa’s mules had kicked me.” Jaquline answered.

“Hmm, I guess that’s normal,” the man teased before launching into the normal questions of caretaker and patient. After a few minutes, Jaquline suspected something was up. Everything here was shining with little wear and tear, but it all reminded her of stuff her grandmother might had had when her father was young.

“Where am I,” she asked.

“Calgary on Homeline,” the nurse answered.

“Whu-” Jaquline blurted out.

“I hope you didn’t drink too much water. You’re in for a long story,” the nurse answered.

=========

CYBER-1 Jaquline’s World:
Very similar to Homeline, Jaquline’s world, dubbed CYBER-1 for its advanced computer, robotic, and military technologies, didn’t start to diverge majorly until the mid-20th century. WWII was rougher and the Cold War was a little more hot than the one Homeline experienced, but the USSR collapsed a full 20 years sooner due to the US focusing on bootstrapping other nations' economies rather than propping up dictators like Batista and the Iranian Shah, so Cuba is a Caribbean economic power, the Cuban Missile Crisis never happened, and the religious extremism that lead to groups like the Taliban and ISIS never got a chance to get a firm hold. One other major difference was the United States’ response to the oil crisis in the 70’s. Determined to never experience something similar, the US government lead CYBER-1 in a furious race to find other energy sources, and by the late 80’s green, renewable energy was powering over 70% of the planet, and by the late 2040’s fossil fuel use had reached nearly zero. The Oil producing countries of the Middle East and South America formed what they dubbed the Power Alliance to take control of some of the major power production and distribution centers around the globe. In 2050, WWIII broke out with the Power Alliance managing to take numerous power plants and power receivers in South and Central America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, India, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. Already strained by the collapse of the oil economy, the Power Alliance’s member nations soon fell to economic ruin and civil wars broke out. While South America recovered fairly quickly, The Middle East soon turned into a hell on earth as warlords fought for control. The Miracle Workers were dispatched to help aid the civilians caught in the crossfire, and it was here that Jaquline Cho was rescued by a small team tasked with extracting a captured group of relief-aid volunteers.

Though on a similar level of technology as Homeline CYBER-1 has no known parachronic technology, and only theoretical knowledge. However, it does have three labs with working wormhole generators, though the technology is still in its infancy, and possesses more advanced robotics, electronic, computer, and military technology, such as having practical exoskeletons for civilian and military use, only being a year or two form the wide scale adoption of careless ammunition, and being able to produce semi-volitional AIs. CYBER-1 also has the first generation of cybernetic prostheses ready for general public use by the end of the year (2053) and are beginning to look into viable neural interfaces. In addition to these technologies, CYBER-1 has several permanent and semi-permanent bases in orbit around earth and the moon as well as on the moon and mars with one on Ceres planned for 2070 and the beginnings of In-Situ asteroid mining planned for 2080.

Still working on the character sheet. I don't have everything in yet, and the avatar is just a placeholder, but finally got Jaq's Profile up. Again, any suggestions are welcome.
