Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

I think we just need to try it out and we will get it.

The things seem pretty intuitive, so just gotta work it into the groove.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Yeah, but I need to buy a melee weapon as backup, and learn how to use it as well.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen nods and heads down to Kershak. Excuse me, but I am looking to purchase some sort of large sword or hammer. Do the lizardfolk make these or have them for sale?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Yes; just one. Do all sorcerers have the same potential? I mean, what if it turns out that Xivasar and Drethrum are more powerful than all of us combined.

After she receives her answer, she thanks Salevok and heads down to Kershak, where she asks him where she can purchase a melee weapon and then where she can learn to hit more forcefully with that weapon.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Actually, I was thinking. The weakness of the bow is that it might become ineffective if the enemy comes to close. Can your people give me some training in how to better harness my strength in close combat?

Power attack

Also, is there a place to purchase a backup weapon? I think I could use a backup melee weapon if the enemy gets to close to me. I might be small, but upon becoming a sorcerer, I have harnessed my strength. I think I could handle a big two-handed weapon; my best defense is my mind, not a shield.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

"We might be capable of holding that kind of power, but we are still not capable of controlling it yet. We still need to meet with the elves; for that, we need your help."

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Ready. Been around, but forgot to check up after a few times.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Yeah, same.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Our alliances cannot be based on lies though. We have to tell them, regardless of what happens.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen's expression says little, but her thoughts are in turmoil.

If I can't trust the words from Yalm, then who can I trust? Is there anything that is fact? What determines which is true and which is not? No, I should not think like this. This world is nothing different from the last. It is true; life is suffering. If I was on track with my past life, then this must be better than our lives at home. The universe wants us to succeed.

Slightly reassured by her internal pep-talk, Jen turns to the shaman.

Is Leorn alright?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Yeah, no problem.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Thank you, wise shaman. I am Jen and I was only a student in the old world, but I liked to explore the woods. I'm not really sure what Yalm saw either, but he is a smart person and I'm sure there is a very good reason.

Jen tries to focus on learning Delven, but sadly her lack of super-intelligence made it difficult for the words to come to her mind. Perhaps later.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen takes a drink of the tea and pretends to enjoy it, not wanting to offend.

Perhaps she doesn't quite succeed, because she has a small involuntary spasm before downing all of the tea.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen comes in after the others, trying not to really impose or make much of a scene. She sits and listens to the others rave about the tea, but she doesn't try, since caffeine only makes one tired on a hike.

For the tea aficionados that haven't introduced themselves, here are Frank and Adina. I am Jen.

What do you mean by occupation?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

I imagine that it would very frantic across a table, heh.

Jen follows along, grateful for their treatment to Leorn and wanting to thank them for their help.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen scrawls some stick figures like pictionary to try to communicate with them, instead of with languages.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

!

Jen uses her track skill to try and find the witch doctor.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Okay, didn't work so well. One of you guys have a plan?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Um hey, not to break up this fight or anything, but Leorn seems to have collapsed. Maybe he is fatigued from the journey through the marshes or is infected by some sort of parasite. Or maybe he couldn't stand to see our allies fight with one another. He didn't look so good when he was walking.

Do we have a medic around here?

Jen moves Leorn so that he is laying on his back.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen walks out unarmed between the two groups, her height being not much taller than the dwarf.

The first to cast a stone or strike with the first axe should kill me first. It would be the same as if Drethrum had caught me alone or if we had marched up to the accursed mountain with little training. Yet that is what you are dooming us to if you cut down one of our allies and we lose your number as well.

To fight each other means that you have given up hope in the prophecy and hope in our chances of saving this land. It means that you have fallen subtley into the Obelisk's power, but I know that you are of strong will and of strong mind.

So let the first to strike me down be the first to abandon our quest and the first to abandon the hope that their children will live in freedom.

Jen kneels down in prayer, making it clear that she is completely helpless.

Hey guys, incase they decide to try and kill me, you'll stop them, right? :)

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen smiles at Frank's joke. It might've been the only interesting thing that day, at least until they got to the lizard's swamp home.

It was basically a lot of treehouses connected by walkways above the swamp, and Jen had always enjoyed playing in treehouses.

Have you been here before, Leorn?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Maybe everything seems a bit odd, but all we can do is trust and hope.

Besides, the marshes are the perfect combination of earth and water. Try to enjoy it.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen looks over at Frank and Eella several times on the trip there. Frank can talk with whoever he wants, and besides, I'm not the kind of person to barge in.

I'll see you again! calls Jen at the departing unicorns.

The journey into the marsh feels right for Jen. Mud and plants everywhere makes it feel just like home.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Thank you again, Arastil, for all of your help.

Jen returns to the central fire as well.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Hmm, that's interesting. But why do you not like them in return?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen whispers to Frank. Now there are four groups, one for each of us. We should probably talk to them about their issues with each other.

She heads over to Arastil and sits down next to her. Hey, how are you doing? I just wanted to thank you again for everything that you're doing to help us. I know that the others don't really make good company, even the males of your own kind.

I was just wondering, why don't Delves and Dwarves and Lizardfolk like each other? I don't understand why.

Then Jen tells some more stories of the sorcerers to lighten the mood.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Maybe you are hearing it, but not really noticing it. When the leaves rustle against each other in the wind, like this, Jen moves a bit closer, it makes only a small sound, but together, Jen places her arm on Frank's chest, it speaks volumes.

She begins to drift away to sleep.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Well if you like water, maybe we could go swimming sometime. Jen listens to Frank's suggestion to talk with the elves. Don't worry about it; I will, but later. We can enjoy this evening.

She scoots her hand over to his.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Frank finds Jen sitting near the edge of the camp, trying to stay away from the noise of the center and listening to the trees. Upon seeing Frank, Jen taps her hand on the ground next to her, motioning for him to sit down.

Have you listened to the sounds of the trees here? I heard it on our arrival here, but I never got the chance to really appreciate them. They sound so different from Earth.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Yeah! Aiden got the dwarves, I've picked up the elves, and I'm sure we can get the lizardfolk to help us too! We'll be an unstoppable army.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Please, your help would be most appreciated. If not for us, then for vengeance against Drethrum. With your help, we can rid his influence from the underworld and restore the balance. The Delves will be able to return.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen heads outside and tries to find the dark elves that she met yesterday, especially Arastil.

Do you know a way to the homeland of the Moon elves through the underworld? She tries to say as much of this as she can in Dark Elven. I know this is a big favor to ask, but could you provide us a guide through the underworld? I am learning to become a ranger as well, but we have heard that the Dark Elves are by far the best in the underworld. And I remember that you liked our stories; we have more of them and there are even two more of us.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

I'd like to target the enemy's weak spots. But now that I am calmer of mind, is there a way to use that in archery as well? If not, maybe there's a way to hit powerfully at close range?

Deadly Aim. Also, I remember somewhere there was something that I could do to get wisdom to either attack roll or both attack and damage roll in archery. It might've been a weapon enhancement or something. Do you know anything like that? And if not, I'd like to take point blank shot.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Appraise: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

But I thought dwarves were wary about magic because they couldn't use it. Dwarves can use magic items too, right? That's how they put up this dampener?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Hey Leorn, could you teach me how to shoot powerfully at weak points sometime? Drethrum seems to have such thick armor, and I'll need a lot of force behind my arrows to penetrate it. And isn't there a way to tighten up this composite bow so I can use my strength to add to the power of my arrows? (Deadly Aim)

If these trolls are so tough and breed so often, then why aren't there more of them? Couldn't they be powerful allies against Drethrum, if even a thousand little cuts couldn't take them down?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

What prevents them from sending more than Drethrum against us? You said that this is one of the last bastions of good. And are the dwarves suspicious enough of magic that we cannot use it to defend ourselves, if the need arises?

Jen turns to Aiden and Adina. How did you enjoy your day? I had a very fun time following the dark elves and learning some of their language and culture. She tries out a few of the phrases.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Can I use a skill point to put in linguistics to learn this language, next time we level up?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Shanosuke:

Jen grabs hold of Frank's hand. I've always wanted to learn a new language. Would it be possible to learn your language? We could follow you around for the day and give you an extra two sets of hands, if you could help us learn. What better way to learn than to be totally immersed in your language?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Sounds good. We should try and learn the languages and customs of the many races in this place. I mean, we never know when we'll need help, so if we could blend in as a local, maybe the request will be more well received.

If she finds a dark elf to talk to, she bows her head and says in common, It is nice to meet you. I am Jen.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Please tell us when the sky starts to darken so we know to head back to the inn.

Jen decides to explore, as it's the first oppertunity she's had since she came to this world. She tries to find one of the dark skinned elves that don't look busy (so as to not interrupt their business) to speak to and greet.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Ahhh Swordsag'd

Wait, we should master our anger. Xivasar needs to be brought down for the good of this world, but that doesn't mean that we should feel anger inside. Anger is a coal that only burns the hand that holds it.

Xivasar is evil because he clings to power; we will become evil if we cling to hate. Yalm is a good person, and he wouldn't want us to go down that road.

Then the dark champion appears on the road behind them, and releasing her anger becomes much harder.

He was the one that killed Yalm.

As Drethrum begins to gain, fear starts to creep into her breast and she holds tightly to her unicorn, seeking comfort in its long and beautiful mane. Jen only lifts her head when Leorn confirms that Drethrum has been slowed down for the moment and mentions the dwarves.

There are people shorter than me?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Are you sure that Yalm is dead? Magicians always have ways of disappearing before their final act.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen goes mum as the unicorns ride away, her arms wrapped around her unicorn. The burning cottage is reflected by the sadness in her eyes, but her lack of words reveals nothing about her thought on the situation.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

A crisis of the spirit becomes a crsis of the mind. If your mind has already given up, how can you expect your body to keep fighting on?

Think about it, Yalm teleported us across worlds. He says our power will exceed his, and there are four of us. There's nothing that we can't handle, eventually.

Jen places her hand on Frank's clenched fist and lightly teases the fingers back into an open palm.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Okay, I'll just set favored enemy as humans

Even in the face of an enormous threat, Jen can't help but enjoy being in the company of the unicorns. Let's calm down, that demon couldn't have been much of an issue. Like Leorn said, it was just a lesser grunt. On the bright side, soon we'll be able to handle them with ease.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Does anyone just notice the new change with the thread at the top?

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Jen wipes the demon's spit off her face and moves to the side, trying to find her bow and arrows.

Uh, I haven't chosen a favored enemy yet. Are demons one of the common foot soldiers of this evil fella?

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen opens the door and is greeted by the sight of a giant eight-foot creature in front of her. While inside, she's quite unsettled, on the outside, she looks rather impassively with "sleepy eyes."

Hi, nice to meet you. She manages a weak wave.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Perhaps relevant: War Paint of the Terrible Visage and Shoanti War Paint

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

Jen's first ride seems to go by quickly, but she enjoys every second of it. Unlike normal horses, the unicorns don't require any of the kicking or prodding, things that often made her uncomfortable before. As the ride ends and combat training begins, Jen thanks her unicorn for the ride and heads to Leorn.

Is that masterwork longbow a regular one or a composite longbow? Composite can be used on the back of a horse, but a regular one can't be used.

In Yalm and Leorn's lessons, one thing stood out to her the most. Make sure you are mentally prepared to defend yourself. He chose to emphasize the mental, not the physical side of combat. And that was how Jen would approach it as well.

Female Human Ranger (Beastmaster/Trapper)//Sorcerer (Elemental Earth Bloodline)

After trying out some of her new magical powers What exactly did we get? Did we learn our full allotment of like four cantrips or did our previously once per day power become a cantrip, Jen heads to the unicorns to ask them some questions.

She tries to be friendly and connecting with the unicorns, using her new ranger skills at being one with nature.

Hey there, I know that you can understand my language, but I can understand yours, so nod to say yes and shake your head side-to-side to say no, kay?

Are you Yalm and Leorn's unicorns or are you just here to help out on this quest to save this place?

Yalm and Leorn's unicorns (pauses to wait for responses) or just here to help (waits for responses)?

Jen says to the side, talking to herself but making sure the unicorns could still hear. Wow, these are such pretty creatures. They're all so pretty. I wonder how it would feel to ride one. Then she turns back to the unicorns. Maybe one of you could help me experience that? Just around the house a few times, to practice my riding. She waits eagerly for a nod.
