I readied an attack as well. It looks like we beat their initiative, so there should be an AoO before they got next to us to bite as well.
Also, I'm still not seeing Gabr's token. Was it made visible to all players?

Jean twirls his weapon in a blinding flurry. He orients the flat of the blade, unwilling to slaughter these creatures wholesale if he can avoid it.

If he goes before they charge, he'll use his surprise round action to ready an attack at the first to come in range. He will not be using Power Attack, but will be using Blade of Mercy.

Who wants to take what watch? I'm thinking: Ran and Tark, then Jean and Gabr, and Theragul by himself to best spread out our perception bonus people.

Thanks. I figured we were going to use the eponymous ferry to cut across and save some time. I suppose I should have specified as much.

Jean's spirits remain high for now. He gathers extra wood this night for an especially large campfire.

If we're going east, why are we following the setting sun?
Also, if you wouldn't mind GM, could you put a pog on the Roll20 map to indicate approximately where we are?

Seeing that the journey will be longer than he had expected, Jean stocks up on supplies at the ferry. Once on the open road, he sings to pass the time and raise everyone's spirits. Mostly hymns and other light-hearted tunes, he is open to requests as well.

"It's the same for me. And if we do need to delve further into that place to find the Hawks, what would we do with the horses anyway?" Jean shakes his head. "If there are no other preparations to be made, I say we head out early to cover as much ground as we can before dark. If we keep the river to our left, there's no chance of getting lost by my reckoning. What do you all say?"

"That's a sound plan." Jean says between bites. "But we should not stay here too long. The longer we delay in finding them, the more trouble Fire Hawks may be in when we find them."

Jean listens intently to the innkeeper's tale. "I'm sure there's more to it Tark. Sacrifice for a cause greater than yourself is quite noble."

"'Don't go down the Well'? Maybe it's some kind of metaphor. I'm sure we'll discover the truth when we get there. You mentioned a monastery. To which God or philosophy do the monks pay homage?"

Jean nods. "That's the truth of it. Do you know anything of Rappan Athuk Odo? You've no doubt heard a tale or three from passers by."

"No bacon or sausage, huh? How about a couple poached eggs and waffles?"

Taxes are never a matter for jest and one of us is a tax collector.

"Well, I suppose. Though you aren't responsible for these lands." The aasimar's wink catches the young man by surprise. With surprising strength for his thin frame, Jean helps the drunkard to his feet.

"Some bread and a side of bacon I think." Jean gives Ran a disapproving look. "My friend jests. Our business here is our own. I think a little moderation, especially so early in the day, would do you well sir."

Preferably something inner planes related.

"He's right you know. Don't mire yourself in darkness when there are so many fair things to look upon." Jean smirks. "If there is someone that desperate about, then they clearly need whatever they can manage to pick from my pocket more than I do and are welcome to it."

He responds to Tark's question "I haven't, but there are still a couple of sleepy heads upstairs, so no hurry."

"Ah, there you two are. Must have had something in my eye. People are better than you think Theragul. And trust is a strength. Besides, there are easier targets for thievery than us I'm sure."

Jean takes his time after waking to groom. Not a hair out of place, not a scuff to sully his armor. Once satisfied, he descends to the common room.

"A good morning to everyone." He nods in the direction of the serving girl. "Miss, if you would be so kind, I will take my breakfast."

He sits a table over from the Dwarf and Demon Blood and gives a tentative smile in their direction while he waits for his food.

Awesome. I agree that three pole-arms users ought to dominate melee for the early levels. Jean also can serve as a party face, but is skill-less in all other areas. If we survive to second level, he will start gaining not insignificant healing capability. (Going to pick up Greater Mercy at third)

GM Watcher, have you decided what the nature of Jean's artifact is? Anything that might have been kept in a Shelyn temple will work.
