That is the reason most DM say no evil characters. Because an evil character can add great RP opportunities, but most of the time it's used as an excuse to be a jerk.
I only know of about 2 people who can play evil characters and not be a jerk to the group and GM.
. < I can see where it could cause problems for the group or GM as those types of people are jerks in life as is and it carries over to their RP as well however I'm not like that at all. Just adds a little flavor to a character who would speak their mind bluntly and follow through with actions that benefit the party as well if needed.
