"It is not the waiting," Ivan growls, his accent growing much thicker, "It is the waiting in the rain that bothers me."

The sullen guardsman doesn't seem to notice Marcus as he broods over his drink.

"You there, Shelynite," he calls to Kaede after a moment, "did he not have to be told five times he would have to pay the taxes on his goods?"

Rain pours from the gray clouds over Sandpoint making the roads and alleys rivers of mud. Most folks stay indoors and there is plenty of people in the Rusty Dragon enjoying tales and drink to lighten their moods. The chosen, minus Tera but plus one Magnimarian Guardsman, sit near a merry fire.

"This is just wonderful," Ivan mutters into his steaming mug of mulled cider. His hair is still damp and the puddle around his chair is still rather large. The soggy guardsman looks none too pleased by the wet weather. "Three hours in the rain for a yokel who does not know his arse from a turnip."

Same here.

In the meantime, does anyone want to have a little fun RPing here? Completely non-canon, of course.

Just wanted to pop in and see how everyone's doin'.

Same here. The bugs do seem to be making the rounds lately.

Hey Nate, hope alls going well with you and your masters. Hope the cold didn't get to ya too much.

So... who else is here?

Yeesh. That's not good.

Hope all goes well with the Grad school stuff. We'll be here until you can get around to posting. :)

Oh boy, and you live in upstate New York, right? That's gonna be chilly.

1 for Stealth and a 20 for Perception. This should be fun. :D

Oh I see how it is. Fine, maybe Ivan will just hang back and observe. :P

"They could be dealing with an injured animal you know," Ivan grumbles as he dismounts. "I'll go with you. We shouldn't be alone," he tells Salomae before she can slink off.

Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Ivan's fine with whatever gets us there fastest. I'm with Kaede and Sal.

"Yes, yes. Horses would be faster. Are we ready to leave?"

Ivan measures his pace to walk beside Sal as she leads the way.

Ivan waits for Elizabeth to calm with a look of concern on his face.

Sense Motive DC 24:
Bluff: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
The concern, while cleverly acted, is false. If anything, Iven seems annoyed at the delay.

"The Misgivings," Ivan says with a falsely wistful note in his voice, "It has such an Ustalavian ring to it reminds me of home."

Then with an intensity that is almost electrifying, his mood and expression turn black.

"Oh how I hate my old home. Let's go and rid ourselves of this place. Grab what you need, we leave err five minutes pass."

Ivan waits for Elizabeth's answer while carefully observing her for any signs that might give him clues.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

"Because I feel like we're getting somewhere. Once this girl is awake we can learn what may have happened to your missing friend," Ivan answers, his tone just a little testy, "we do want to find her, don't we?"

Ivan, being one of the stronger people present, finds himself roped into helping the young acolyte to her room.

Sense Motive DC 30:

Bluff: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
All the time since finding Elizabeth, Ivan has seemed more and more eager about something.

"It's alright folks," Ivan calls out, putting on his most authoritative voice, "Just someone who had a rough night out. Please go about your business."

Dice rolls:
Bluff: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Ivan plasters himself against the wall as both Salomae and Kaede dive in to help Elizabeth.

Well this certainly raises some questions.

Ivan follows Sal, then steps in front of her.

"Perhaps I should take a look first. There may be some clues,"

Rolls:

Perception 1d20+7[/dice: 1d1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

"How hard would one have to work to learn of their friendship," Ivan asks before noticing Sal's apparent fixation on rubbish choked alley.

"Ms. Salomae? Do you see something?"

"Besides the lack of a sense of humor among some of the farmers, we did not," Ivan answers with a sigh.

"I suppose it is to this Misgivings place then?"

Meanwhile at the gate

"...idiots who can't take a damn joke shouldn't have children," Ivan grumbles as he nurses a bruise beginning to darken his cheek. He really shouldn't have asked if the farmer was selling his wife when he declared his intentions, but he'd been waiting to hear the full report and hadn't appreciated the interruption. He moves his jaw without any difficulty, but it is sore.

"Well, I guess this lot wouldn't know if he came back with a potato sack if we asked them," he says to Zache and Marcus after a moment. "I guess we head to this Misgivings place and see if it's as haunted as everyone claims it is."

"And here I thought being Varisian made you 'fishy' by birth in Chelish eyes," Ivan teases before flashing a mostly harmless smile. "We shall speak with the guards to see what they know."

The city watchman turns and leaves without another word and makes for the southern gate.

Ivan goes with Zache and Marcus to see what news they have from the gate.

"The Varisian. We should find him. People don't leave in the middle of the night in a hurry unless they have reason."

"So, this Tera, does she love this Lord Foxglove? What about this Elizabeth? Would she be of any use against this killer?"

Ivan shakes himself and gives the others a sheepish smile.

"Oh, forgive me. I always try to piece together those that I am, ah, seeking. It helps me better predict their actions."

"I know some, but not all I wager. I know there have been, ah, unpleasant events recently, but I know little specific."

"Would it be easy to manipulate one or both of them? Did anyone have a particular dislike for either of them?"

Ivan follows along, grabbing and finishing Zache's plate as they leave the table.

"Tera, I take it she is not the sort to go haring off alone or with her friend," he half-asks as they continue their search. "Can you tell me more about both of them? I might be able to help figure out what may have happened."

"Forgive me, but who are Tera and Elizabeth?"

"True, but it is interesting, nonetheless," Ivan says to Kaede after she corrects him on the story he'd heard. When Tera and Elizabeth are mentioned, he raises a brow and looks at the others, waiting for an answer.

"It seems a cleaner, more peaceful place than Magnimar and a happier place than my home country," He says as he steps up to take Sal's hand in a firm grasp.

"It is a pleasure, Ms. Salomae. I've heard tales of your battles against goblins and demons. I've also heard all sorts of stories about you and the lords of the town," he replies before helping himself to the food. "Did you really turn one of them into glass after he made unwanted advances towards one of the female acolytes?"

Yeah, that seems to be the way it goes with me. I keep cycling between three or four different hobbies. I'm hoping to focus better on what I want and need to do and direct my energy in ways that are more productive this coming year, so we'll see how it goes. :)

The man walks with purpose to the table the God Marked sit at, quickly evaluating each of them as he approaches.

The two women look more fit than the two men, well, a boy and a man. Even sitting the boy favors a leg. An injury perhaps? Ah, it hardly matters now.

"Ivan Dolkov," the man says in a smooth Ustalvian accent, "at your service. You must be the Marked I have heard so much about since arriving."
